Solid steak and seafood spot right off the water in Door County, WI. I had the shrimp risotto and it was pretty good. Had the bacon appetizer which was exceptional and my buddy had the pork chop, which I tried and thought was really tender. The decor is very cozy and comfortable and service is quite good. A friend and I had dinner here during my first weekend (ever!) in Door Co. It was an exceptional experience. The interior is very coastal and clean. Comfy wooden chairs. Our service was terrific as was the food. I ordered the beet salad special which was incredible + chicken. I'd been craving mashed potatoes and they truly hit the spot. The chicken was seasoned and cooked perfectly. My friend ordered the scallop special and it was yummmmm! Scallops melted in your mouth. Booked an online reservation for the first available time of 7:45, but arrived early and thankfully the host was able to manage the openings so we could be seated sooner. Every seat at the bar was full, all tables full--this was on a Wednesday night! We learned why once we ordered...Absolutely wonderful service, good drinks and the food... Highlights included the glorious shrimp cocktail--5 plump jumbo shrimp served on ice with fresh lemon. cocktail sauce and "Euro" sauce. So good!! I enjoyed the petite filet mignon--delicious and perfectly cooked--and the baked potato, which was sliced so it cooked up crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, then slathered in sour cream and chives. Mmm... My father enjoyed his beef stroganoff, with tender beef and button mushrooms on a bed of fresh pappardelle pasta. Delicious! Definitely hope to eat here again. My family has been coming to Barringer's for more than 10 years, and it has always been one of our favorites in Door County. We've always loved the chic yet relaxed atmosphere, great food and drinks, and the overall experience, which made our visit this year especially disappointing. In the weeks leading up to our reservation, I went back and forth trying to increase our party size as we finalized who would be in town. I left voicemails, messaged through the app, and even noted that we were celebrating my sister's birthday. The staff acknowledged the birthday on the phone and when we arrived, which we appreciated, but unfortunately the service throughout the evening did not live up to our previous experiences. The biggest disappointment was the attitude from the host stand. When a few members of our party came in last and asked where the party was seated, the response felt dismissive. Later, when several people at our table were uncomfortable because of the heat inside the restaurant, we asked whether there might be a fan available. The host rather curtly informed us that a fan was already running and that the restaurant had "always been open-air." I don't remember ever feeling uncomfortably hot there over the years or the servers being so rude. Service throughout the meal continued to feel somewhat detached, and despite the birthday note on our reservation, no dessert was offered. That said, there were definitely highlights. The bread was phenomenal--fresh, warm, and paired with a delicious (and very garlicky) butter. The cherry cosmo was excellent, and the other drinks were great as well. The risotto was flavorful, although the vegetarian version was surprisingly sparse, consisting mainly of risotto with just a few arugula leaves. The burger and fries were very good, and both the Brussels sprouts and mac and cheese were solid choices. Because we have so many wonderful memories here, it's disappointing to leave feeling like we probably won't return. This was the one reservation our family just had to have this year for our annual Door County trip, and unfortunately the experience simply didn't match what we've come to expect. read more

Every time we are in Fish Creek, we make sure to step in at Barringer's. From the white tablecloths to the perfect dirty martini with three olives, our dinner was nearly perfect. The slightest problem occurred when I ordered a lobster salad and it was supposed to come withdrawn butter, but it came with what I perceived to be and tasted like, olive oil with herbs. Not good. I let our server know any quickly replaced it with warm drawn butter. The service is always fantastic. The atmosphere can't be beat. If weather permits, have a drink next to the outdoor fireplace. Farmhouse modern chic! The inside is straight from Joanna Gains playbook. The bar is adorable. It would be a fun modern place to grab a drink with friends. I am not one to leave reviews about a bad experience but......Incredible rude when called to change a reservation. There was no option to make online reservation for 5 people, so we made it for 4 and tried to called right away. The restaurant was closed so we waited and called again when they opened. I told the person that we have one more 10 year old child and the response was: " That does not help on Father's Day and you should have called earlier." I told him that they were closed and he then said..."well I went through all my voicemails and none were from you... I can seat you but I am not sure when that will be...." We are fine with that but he was so rude how he talked, felt scolded the entire time. We are long time visitors of Barringer's which means some of the staff know us and have never experienced this. Barringer's is one of our favorites in Door County! The aesthetic is very California - clean, modern, white and airy. It's a comfortable place to grab a drink or have a big dinner. On our last trip we sat at high tops with a view of the bar and the outdoor fire place which was great on a cold November night! We started off with the seafood platter (small) which comes with oysters, shrimp, smoked mussels, smoked whitefish dip and pimento cheese dip. It was a great appetizer but a bit too much food for just 2 people! You can't go wrong with the specials, over the years we have loved their fried chicken, lobster Mac and cheese, and most recently the ahi tuna over wasabi mashed potatoes. Pleasantly surprised after a slightly rocky start. We arrived on time for our 8pm reservation but just after another gentleman walked in to pick up a to-go order. The hostess went to check on it and was doing various tasks around the kitchen for several minutes before returning to let him know they were just boxing it up. Then she finally acknowledged us, took another several minutes to consult the seating chart, the 2-4 empty tables in the area, and make a decision on where to seat us. After being seated we waited about 10 minutes until a waitress came to our table. Luckily after this point service picked up and was nicely attentive. We were enjoying the decor but the music in the dining area wasn't cohesive to the atmosphere, more so to the bar across the restaurant which was bustling. We ordered half salads to start - the Cobb was a meal in itself with huge bits of blue cheese crumbles, a generous helping of crispy bacon bits, and thinly sliced red onions (thank you for thin!) as well as heirloom tomatoes and avocado. The tarragon ranch was tasty, very thick and not super tarragon forward. My cousin got their simple salad with large slices of manchego and a delightful light lemon vinaigrette. For mains I had the baked cod which me being on keto was a perfect solution to friday fish fry cravings. It was flaky, moist, and the Parmesan crust gave me that crunch I missed. This was the first time I've eaten cod and enjoyed it without slathering in tartar sauce. The asparagus was grilled perfectly with nice char and tenderness. My cousin had the lobster and crab stuffed shrimp which were generous in everything- big pieces of lobster and lump crab with barely any binder atop plump and tender shrimp. In general, service in Door county was disappointing over the Memorial Day weekend, but not for the reasons you may expect. Staff seem to have developed some ego, which makes dining in some restaurants unpleasant. We ordered wine with steak and waited quite a long time for it to arrive; we asked after it twice and by the time it arrived, the steak was cold. We didn't even say anything about having ordered a higher end wine, being served a totally different wine after having to ask after it twice, and then still being charged for the higher quality product. We just won't be back. Four stars for the food. Two stars off for the service. +1 for the general atmosphere apart from service. read more

Perch was excellent, lightly coated and cooked to perfection. Crab cakes were enormous, two of them loaded with crab resting on a mild aioli. Asparagus was firm and plentiful. Warm bread with an herb butter kept us amused while we waited for our meals. Only drawback was sitting directly across from another couple on the other side of the bar as we ate. My experience at Barringer's is living proof that you really need to read the Yelp reviews before you go somewhere. Other reviewers said it's expensive. That's true. But really only if you're having steak and steak in a resort town IS expensive. Other reviewers said that you wait at the bar beyond your reservation time. That's true. But I think that may be part of the "Wisconsin Supper Club" experience and the conceit here is that this is a part of the Wisconsin supper club scene. Most importantly, Yelper Jim K. Mentioned that the chicken noodle soup was amazing over several reviews filed over a multi-year period. Based on his devotion alone....I had the soup. He's right about the soup. Like VERY right about the soup. Have the soup. It's both traditional and interesting. I also had the rib eye medium rare with au poivre and a side of mushrooms. The flavors were exquisite hot and also the next day after 1/2 went home for left overs (portions are big) In my group, the seafood plate was also popular but pasta dishes and fish fry were not well loved and were noted to lack salt. Our local cousin made a reservation for this place so we went with the flow. After looking at the pricey menu ahead of our reservation we remembered we were in Door County. Our group of six was seated near the kitchen which was less than ideal in this nicely decorated dining room. Upstairs would have been a better vibe. Otherwise the experience was very pleasant. The server did a good job though she was hard to hear over the crowded restaurant - she was a low talker. The warm bread and garlic herb butter was one of the highlights of the meal. A couple of us tried the lobster bisque and it was very good and we could actually find the lobster chunks in it. A few ordered the truffle burger and liked it a lot and everyone's was cooked correctly. I had the crab cakes which were tasty - lots of crab and little filler though at $42 was way overpriced. We got there early, planning to get something to drink at the bar. We were told that if we sat outside, they'd take our order from the window. When I tried waving one of the bartenders down, he put his hand up- in other words, to shoo me away. Eventually, the couple next to us realized we hadn't been served and told us to come over by them. Our reservation was at 7:45, we were seated a bit past 8:00. We sat for a bit, with no server. Eventually our server came over and said "well I see we have drinks, are we ready to order?" This weekend my husband and I were celebrating our 44th anniversary in Door County and chose Barringer's for dinner on our last night. We rarely order steak but after reading so many stellar reviews, we both did. Our favorite cuts are ribeye (me) and filet for my love. Both were cooked to a perfect medium rare. We each ordered crispy baked potatoes - his was loaded. I could not stop moaning during each luscious bite of my ribeye! It was the best steak I have had since September 2013! I remember because I've compared every one since! On that occasion, we were celebrating my birthday at Keefer's in Chicago's River North area and were sad when they closed the next year. My husband enjoyed his filet as well, but I didn't detect any moaning. We shared a bottle of Cakebread Cabernet, which has been one of our favorite reds since our first trip to Napa in the '80s. I had read the staff profiles and had a little chat with Grant, after reading he was from Chicago. The clouds parted and the sun began to emerge on a somewhat chilly summer day in the county of Door. My stomach had grumbled and I was in need of nourishment when I saw a charming building straight out of a cape cod dream.
