OMG! This is the last place I expected to find food of this caliber.. soooo happy I was totally wrong. Probably one of the best restaurants in Door County. We happen to arrive by boat and stay the night in the marina... service is great, fabulous bartender with great drinks, menu was so varied I had double deciding what to order. My brother ordered chicken Florentin, and I had the perch.. could not have been happier. Sure hope I can come back some day soon. read more

Delicious food and amazing, old school, mixed drinks. I made a reservation for a Wednesday enchilada at the bar. Eating solo, sounded better at the bar. I started with a fantastic margarita and chips and salsa. Then the chicken enchilada, the size of a small dog came. I watched the sunset out the window and ate an amazing 1/2 enchilada- couldn't eat the entire thing. The staff were all great. Especially Alex, the bartender. She is a multitasker like no other. On our second night on the island we decided to try this restaurant as it was closest to our hotel. It was an easy walk. It didn't start out well as the hostess threw menus on our table without acknowledging our presence. A perky and friendly waitress made up for it. With a perch shortage, I was amazed they had some. I got a perch plate that had 3 whole fish with an interesting breading. We both enjoyed our meals. We left full and happy. The restaurant is next to a marina. The views are very pleasant. It is a nice place to get a good meal. Washington Island is known for its beauty and restaurants. This place does its best at holding up that reputation. A nice place to patronize. This place is extraordinary. Fresh and well balanced recipes. Everything we had on the menu was uniquely delicious. From food, drinks & deserts. Service is exemplary. People are nice, attentive and they make sure everyone's comfortable. A little professional insight: not only that the restaurant is really clean, but their kitchen is the cleanest kitchen I have ever seen! So it's safe to say that it's not only a delicious place to dine out, but a restaurant with a high quality service overall. I'm looking forward to my next weekend out there. read more

We ate here for dinner and were very impressed. Don't be fooled by the name. They don't serve 'bar' food. Their menu is more towards fine dining with some very good seafood options. Staff was very friendly and attentive. We had the White Fish and Duck and were pleased with the quality and presentation. The pub also has a good view of the lake for sunset. read more

If you are the slightest bit concerned about COVID-19, this is not the place for you. No hand sanitizer, no masks, no distancing. I really want to like Sailor's Pub. The view is great from the bar and the patio. The menu looks good. We give it a go every couple of years. It is consistent regardless of owner: the food is over-priced and meh, they run out of food items and alcohol brands. At least one or two people in your party will need to change their food and/or drink order which will extend your wait time. The service is consistently good-natured but incompetent. Unfortunately, the Washington Hotel is not open this season, so you (and your checkbook) are far better off at Karly's, Nelson's, JJ Fiske's, or Jackson Harbor Soup & Sandwich. Jackson Harbor has the best food on the island. Even Ship's Wheel, Middle Bar and Island Pizza are a better choice than Sailor's Pub. Go for a drink - but eat elsewhere. read more

Side salad with said honey wasabi sauce because it was so amazing. Salmon with capers and the Whitefish Allison special and to finish our evening- warm cherry pie. What a great place, hidden behind the marina. Go before dark or you'll have a hard time finding the place in the dark. We were told we needed a reservation, which is a really good idea, but our AT&T phones don't work on the island, so we just showed up. They were very gracious and seated is. The salads were fantastic, and my Shrimp Fettucini was fabulous. Creamy and full of Shrimp. Then we had dessert. Cherry Pie with Ice Cream. I am normally not a Cherry Pie person. I hate canned pie filling. But this was homemade pie filling, and it was scrumptious. I was spoiled. read more

Pretty nice restaurant. The physical plant is suffering from high water, but they are plugging along. Very popular place with a great view. Inside was full and so was the deck. They don't seem to be serious about social distancing, but this is Wisconsin. Scallops were very nice in a great curry sauce. Spinach was overcooked and entrees came out well before we finished our salad. Side Caesar was six bucks and very nice. The regular Caesar is 17 so it must be huge. You can add protein to the big salad for extra money. Perch were good too. read more

Went there and had an amazing meal with my family. I would recommend making a reservation since seating is limited and some tend to linger. I had a hard time choosing between the scallops and the duck so I got one and my wife got the other. Both were OUTSTANDING! there were other offerings that looked just as well put together and the component parts were well thought out. I wish I could have tried more. We split the red velvet cake and the chocolate torte between four of us and still took some home. Prices are about double what you would see at a plain run-of-the-mill family restaurant but the food was exceptional. Worth every penny. Upscale and professional but not pretentious. A great sunset seen out across the water. Would definitely come here again. read more

This is one of the most popular eateries on Washington Island, and it's easy to see why. There was a great selection of entrees here and I had a hard time choosing which one to try! In the end I opted for the duck, which was wonderfully crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. It came with a dark cherry sauce, complete with whole juicy cherries - which went really well with the meat. Our party of six were all thoroughly pleased with the mains they ordered, and the onion strings we shared were also tasty. I would have liked to see a slightly better choice of appetisers, however. The staff are all very friendly and our waitress was great at describing and recommending various courses, and at the small talk that makes for a fun evening out. Our only main gripe was being made to wait for a table for 20 minutes, despite making a reservation. However, we were able to get drinks at the bar and enjoy the sunshine - and on an island where there is never really any rush, we didn't mind too much at all. read more

I wish we would have gone elsewhere for our only dinner out while we were on Washington Island for a few days. They seated us although we didn't have a reservation (who would think you'd need reservations in rural northern WI?), and I was appalled at how expensive this place is. The bill for two adults and a toddler, with no appetizers or alcohol, was $61 with a tip. The food was good but nowhere near that level price wise. It is also not really family friendly, so go elsewhere with kids. read more

This is probably the best restaurant on Washington Island -- but that's not saying much. Washington Island is a wonderful place to visit -- it's like going back to how Door County was 30 years ago, before the crowds, condos developments and traffic jams on Route 42. Unfortunately, that also means very few decent restaurants. Washington Island only has a few places where you can get an edible meal, and they are: Washington House Inn (but that's fine dining and very expensive -- and I think it may be closed right now?), the Albatross (which is basically fast food and you have to sit on a picnic bench) and the Sailor's Pub, which is somewhere between the two. Sailor's Pub serves typical American style food and local specialties such as whitefish in a casual atmosphere. It is family-friendly. It's right on the water, so you may be able to get a table with a view. It's a little overpriced and the food isn't spectacular, or creative in any way, but the food is infinitely better than some of the other horrible places to eat on the island (*cough* Nelsen's Hall *cough*). Service is a little on the slow side, but friendly, which is typical of the Island. read more

I rented mopeds on the island & drove around the island looking for a place open after 5 pm on a Sunday. Then after 30 mins of stopping numerous places in the rain, a gentleman referred us to this place. I gotta tell you the server was sweet & the food was delicious. I would refer anyone to this place. The outside views from inside were gorgeous. I wish it would of not been raining because I would of sat outside for dining. I had a steak & some shrimp with a dinner salad. The salad was huge & tasty. They served warm & fresh bread with olive oil dipping sauce. I wish I lived near this place to eat here once a month. I'm still daydreaming about the shrimp I had. Best kept secret on the island. You'd never guess it just by driving by. If you're here in season, go for dinner. If out of season, you're out of luck. Simple menu but all well prepared, well presented, and well served. Sit on the deck and enjoy the view if you can - it overlooks Detroit island and harbor - beautiful. This is really one of the few places to enjoy a reasonably sophisticated meal (dinner) on the island. And as a well respected local put it to us, "It's the only place we eat on the island." read more

Stopped in on a Saturday night around 6 pm after playing across the street at Red Barn Park. Although the place was pretty empty, they indicated they were expecting numerous reservations at 6:30 so my only option would be to sit at the bar. They seemed very apologetic about this, but the bar area was fine for my son and I, and had a nice view of the water. I got the duck in a cherry sauce with basmati rice, and a side Caesar. Quite a bit of food and all very good. They had a few off menu kids items they listed off for me and my son went with the buttered noodles, which was also a big portion and came with a big helping of Parmesan cheese on the side. His food came out very quickly, and they provided some bread while we waited, which I appreciated to prevent a hungry toddler meltdown. They also let him pick out some candies as we left which he was thrilled with. Would definitely return if I find myself on the island again. read more

First time on the Island and have fallen in love with it. Sailor's Pub was suggested and we went for dinner. All the tables were taken and we learned that reservations are suggested. There were seats at the bar and we were greeted by the bartender Alex who was amazing. Very personable and friendly. Alex could make any cocktail requested and she knew what she was doing. She informed us of the specials for the night and we ordered Scallops and they were to die for. We also ordered a Mandarin Orange and Candied Walnut salad as well which was delicious, along with a crab cake appetizer. Previous posts talked about the food being over priced and I could maybe see this a bit, but it was hands down the best meal I had on the Island. The views are amazing and the staff was even more amazing. Thank you Alex for great service and smile and welcoming us to the Island. We will definitely be coming back! read more

We decided to go out for dinner as a family, which can always be trying with a 2 and 4 yo. So, we tried Sailor's Pub. The place was a bit small and with tourist season we were worried about getting in and the wait. We got there early evening and got right in. The wait for food was very reasonable and because it's right on the shores of Lake Michigan you can take a stroll outside to walk the docks and look across the water at nearby Detroit Island. I ordered pasta which was great. My wife is lactose intolerant and made them aware. The waitress checked with the cook on what items she could eat. She ordered the wrap and it came with cheese and just said no cheese. She came back later and said they had some vegan cheese they would be happy to substitute and she was glad she did as it was fantastic. For our young kids, they had a kids menu which was reasonable and crayons. When they got a bit fussy, they even brought them a couple games to play which was very nice of them. Overall, we were very happy and hope to go again next year...probably without the kids though :) read more

We made the mistake of going to Sailor's Pub with a party of seven and an 8 month old baby. We had to wait until a table was ready to accommodate us which was understandable. After about 20 minutes when the table was free, the staff bused two other tables and reset them though no one was waiting for these tables. They then cleaned the table they sat us at. When we were seated we were told that they could not put a high chair at the booth table we were at so we would have to hold the baby. By this time it was getting late and going to another restaurant was not an option. I saw the high chair and believe it would have fit at the table, they could have at the very least tried. Another option would have been for them to put two regular tables together for us, as it was getting later and there were many empty tables with no one waiting for them. While the baby was quiet and content, the meal was not a relaxed, enjoyable experience, though the food was good. We had to take turns holding the baby, so that every one could eat. There are several other restaurants on the Washington Island. If you want good food as well as friendly, considerate, gracious service I would suggest you go to Karly's or Fiddlers Green. read more

We spent 6 nights on Washington Island recently and dined at the Sailor's Pub twice because restaurant choices on the island are limited. On our first visit, where we sat on the pleasant outdoor deck, my husband and I both had the whitefish filet with a side of steamed broccoli. It was fresh and delicious and we were happy campers. Three nights later we ordered the same entree but the whitefish had a noticeable fishy taste and a very different texture. It was a disappointing experience; consistency is a key in the restaurant business and the Sailor's Pub failed that test on this night. The dessert, which we split, was bumble-berry pie with ice cream, a tasty homemade creation. All in all, we had a lovely experience and delicious food on one visit but a serious disappointment the second time around. The bill for each visit was $81.00+ with tax, tip and one glass of wine each--worth it on visit one but definitely not worth it on visit two. read more
