It you are interested in dining on the outdoor patio, get there early or show up late. We really wanted to dine here as the reviews were good and definitely wanted to sit outside with a bay view. When we contacted the restaurant, they recommended we come before 5PM to get a table outside. We showed up at 4:55PM and got the last table! They have a great craft beer selection including IPA's (which is big plus for me). We started with the Salmon Tartare ($18) which was a light and flavorful selection in which we both enjoyed. My bride went with the Salmon ($36) and I went with the Halibut ($42) and we both loved our selections including the sides! They were so well prepared and perfect dishes for out tastes. I absolutely adore Waterfront. It's so classy and has such a lovely view of the bay and a harbor lined with boats. The food is amazing, we indulged in a few shared appetizers and took advantage of the daily specials on our latest trip. I recommend ordering the bread! It's an additional charge, I think $6, but wow it is WORTH IT. Warm, soft and an amazing truffle butter I wish I could reasonably eat with a spoon. The seafood here is excellent so definitely take a look at that! Get reservations for sure but this is such a great date night in Door County! read more

This is a very nice place to have dinner. I had made reservations for our Girls' trip and we were very much looking forward to going here. The weather was definitely cooler, but we were seated at a table with a view, which was very nice. Our server was absolutely phenomenal and I'm so bummed I cannot remember her name, but she is also a 4th grade teacher. Definitely order the bread for the table because it comes with the truffle butter that will change your life. I was trying to figure out how to put it in my pocket and get it home with me. We also ordered some calamari for the table, which we definitely enjoyed that. I chose the halibut because you just don't see it on the menu very often and it was very well prepared. Our server also offered to take our group picture outside against the water as our backdrop, which was so kind. I would come back here if I was in the area again. read more

Apparently, this is a really good place to go for the sunset, but it was very cloudy and dark. The inside kind of feels like you're transported back to 2006 and everyone in there is dressed like it's the early 2000s. It's kind of a fun little time capsule restaurant in that sense! It's a kind of expensive for the area, but the food was OK. We tried the wedge salad and the Caesar both were heavily dressed and tasted like they were really unhealthy, but good so I'll take that because it is Wisconsin food. The bread with the truffle butter was fine, but I thought it should've been free. The steak was very tender, but personally, I loved the chicken dish with the cheddar grits. Again, it's decent food for the area, but I think it's only worth it if there's a sunset. Drinks were really bad honestly. read more

This is quickly become a new tradition for my family when we are in door county. Sitting at the edge of Sister Bay Main Street, this picturesque waterfront restaurant has great staff, great food, and fantastic drinks. Each time, I've gotten the garden party cocktail and am pleasantly surprised with the refreshing zip of the herbs. Our favorite is also the oyster shot - when we come here we have to have that! they offer the freshest oysters they have from East Coast, with a shot of I think tomato juice, vodka, and horseradish? Don't ask, just get! Lol. The food is outstanding our party got the fillet, the chicken, as well as the Bolognese, and the fresh cut pasta. This was superb! We were here for our anniversary. Not only was Hunter, our server, absolutely wonderful, but the food and drinks were divine! I had the filet with mashed potatoes (creamy, super flavorful) and carrots. There was a semi-glacé that was so good, and a pat of garlic butter-my my my! The carrots were also delicious. The portion was just great--I could eat almost all of it, which never happens. I am not a fan of the typical American sized portions which typically make 3-4 meals for me. This was perfect, though my husband did have to finish my filet. (Yeah, he was soooo put-upon ). My husband had oysters and a halibut meal with green beans, which he said was very, very good. My husband loved the recommended wine so much that we are going to pick up a bottle for home. My drink was non alcoholic and was perfect-tart and just a little sweet, with lime and lavender. Dessert was Key Lime Pie, nice and tart, not teeth-achingly sweet. And we had a little sunset before eating. Table looked out over the water. This made for a lovely, delicious anniversary dinner. For elegant, fine dining with spectacular sunset views, Waterfront is the perfect choice. The dining area is beautiful and comfortable, with plenty of space between tables and floor to ceiling windows overlooking the bay and the wonderful sunsets. The staff was friendly and attentive. But the food is the real star here. Daily specials should be considered, like the halibut cakes that we had. So delicious! The cocktails were great and be sure to order the bread and butter. Dinner and dessert were good - we started with the bread, which comes with delicious truffle butter, oysters Rockefeller, and salad; had the local whitefish, NY strip steak, risotto, and Alaskan halibut as mains; and finished with carrot cake and key lime pie for dessert. I have rarely had a more pleasant evening out. We had delicious drinks. The food was delicious. I had the whitefish and it was perfectly prepared. My wife enjoyed her shrimp and grits as well. For dessert: carrot cake and, rather than the gooey, too sweet icing, this was light and creamy. But, really, I have to say the service was amazing. First night in Door County for the year and decided we needed to see the water. We had a lovely table near a window. Sun going down, but the shades were easily lowered and we were still able to see the water as we ate. Prince Edward oysters were wonderful, along with fried calamari to start. Caesar salad and wedge salad nicely dressed; just the perfect amount of dressing. Very large salads. Lollipop lamb small plate cooked to perfection. And who doesn't love bolognese?!? The Waterfront is now closed for the season. Expected reopening late April, 2026. The Waterfront has been one of the premiere restaurants in Door County for many years now. The locale on the shorefront near a yacht club is endlessly interesting with boats moving in and out of the harbor along with the sun setting across the bay makes for priceless views guaranteed to create wonderful memories. The bar led by the owner's daughter, Kendall, makes wonderful drinks and the wine list is more than adequate. The menu is not extensive, but there is a little bit of everything and all of it is very well prepared. Especially appreciated are the delicious small plate items for those of us who cannot eat as much as we used to. Kris Johnson, the wife of the legendary J.J., has built and presided over this classic dining spot for at least two decades now. Like all of us, the heavy duties of running the day to day operations are wearing her out. I don't blame her, but being off for the winter will surely get her ready for another wonderful season. A reservation is a must even on a weeknight in mid-October. We got seated promptly in their lovely dining room. Earlier in the summer I am guessing the outside deck and the view would be an added attraction. I had seen on their website that they had a Mai Tai so I ordered that but they did not have it since it was a "summer drink". Very disappointing and a bit strange. We started with the lobster bisque - it was unbelievably rich and delicious. I wish the bowl was bigger but that may have not been good for my health! My wife ordered the crab cakes, which was a small plate, which she really enjoyed. I got the small plate smoked salmon which was tasty. The potato chips as a side was a bit odd but good. I took the bait and got the maple creme brûlée with a side of candied bacon for dessert. It was pretty darn good. Overall we had a great experience and a great meal. read more

Exceeded Expectations for food taste and presentation. Leafy Lemon salad was fluffy delicious with a light lemon coating and finely shaved parmesan. We coulda shoulda eaten a bucket full off this. Shrimp cocktail Vera Cruz, plump marinated shrimp in a gazpacho was divine. We followed with the chicken liver pate. This was tasty but a little too soft for our taste though we ate it all - deliciously paired with cornichons and blueberry compote (not at all sweet). Full but greedy we added the lamb chops, again a little underdone for us. We Brits like to see a bit of char on our chops. Pablo added fries, they were just OK. Really full now, we staggered home and had ice cream twixes an hour later. Manhattan and Sazerac were OK, nothing special but again we have these at home most nights and are taste buds are tuned for room temp drinks and a thick layer of absinthe on the Sazzy rim. We had the best table i n the house center stage for sunset which was nice. Service was end of season professional but please dont try and make conversation with me as I am done and need a break. read more
