Came here on a Friday night and had an awesome experience. When we first walked in, we were greeted by Marcela. She is one of the nicest people I've encountered working in the service industry. She served us drinks and was incredibly friendly and personable. At one point in the night, two of us went back to order more drinks and we really enjoyed talking with her. It seemed like she wanted us to have a great experience. The fish boil was very entertaining and done by Paul (the owner). He was very knowledgeable and just a great guy. Kettle Black has been ran by his family for many years so he knows his stuff! After the fish boil outside, we went in and ate in the upper level. The fish was delicious! It was served with red potatoes, corn, and coleslaw. I won't usually rave about coleslaw but theirs was so good. I think they add one of their sauces to it, so it has a lot of flavor. The sauces were great for dipping pieces of the fish in and had a lot of flavor- I really liked the spicy one! The service was great. Everything about this place was positive. The ambiance was super cozy and homey. You must come here if you want to attend a fish boil while you're in Door County!!!

Waited all day to get to this place, since the boil wasn't until 6 PM and had a long drive after dinner. It was quite enjoyable from start to finish. The cornbread was on point with every crumb the coffee was hot and fresh and robust and the best cup I had on the entire weekend trip in the door, the boil was quite unique for February being able to have the experience through the window on the deck with step-by-step experience. Gulf shrimp were so delicious and fresh tasting with vegetables like brussel sprouts and sweet potato as well as the red potato and fresh corn and sausage. There's a lobster tail upgrade option as well. Love the special chef made seasoning and sauce. The cherry pie tasted fresh baked and flakey crust was amazing. The ribs were so unique and flavorful with just the right amount of seasoning and sauce.

We had an Open Table confirmation for Nov 27 and arrived to find the place all dark and closed up. Would love to have eaten and been able to review the food.

We had a really great night at Kettle Black for the Cajun Shrimp Fish Boil. Door County is known for its white fish boils, but this was such a unique take on it that my whole family preferred! The meal was so much more flavorful and we all loved it! There was even a great vegetarian option that was full of flavor. They also do traditional fish boils, but I recommend the Cajun one! It was a little spicy, but nothing extreme and there was a great sauce to kick it more if you like. Great atmosphere and personal experience talking with the chef and other attendees. Finished with a delicious slice of cherry pie!

Unforgettable! Outstanding! You can tell that a lot of care and love goes into the food. All details considered to make this a truly delicious and memorable meal. Feels homey, yet modern. Beautiful setting with excellent service.

We came in the winter when the crowds were lower. It was a very relaxing evening and the food was great. The owners ran the whole place as well when we were there and were very nice. It definitely goes on the list for a place to go back to. They do have alternatives to fish/seafood but we did not have it.

So excited to have another great fish boil experience in Door County after losing a couple! Everything was cooked to perfection, the staff was super friendly, and the decor is spotless and lovely. The boil-master visited our table and had delightful stories to share. We can't wait to try their Cajun boil next!

Split a shrimp cocktail to start, shrimp were modest in size but sauce was excellent. Side salads came and were surprisingly well done. Lettuce plus mushrooms, carrots, tomatoes, cucumber and croutons. Wifey went with the Wednesday special, perch. Generous portion served with mashed potatoes and green bean medley. Very good choice. I went with the seafood pasta dish. Had a fancy name but basically shrimp (over cooked), scallops (cooked perfectly), lobster tail (medium size but very tender), artichokes, and tomatoes over linguine in a very salty sauce. Proteins were very good, sauce was far too salty and ruined the meal. Service was excellent. Recommend with caution. Everything we saw served around us looked great. Unfortunately, I chose the wrong menu item. Will return to try other entrees.

This is what I'd refer to as an upscale supper club. They make a great old fashioned and you have your choice of a dinner salad or cup of soup with all entrees. Most entrees come with a protein, au gratin potatoes and the vegetables of the day. I usually get either the whitefish or the duck. On this visit I had the whitefish and it was absolutely delicious. It was perfectly cooked and simply prepared with lemon and butter which is exactly what goes with really fresh whitefish. They serve it with a side of tartar sauce...but I'd never do that to this lovely fish, so just left that alone. The potatoes and vegetables were good as always. Desserts are all made in house except for the key lime pie which is actually flown in from Florida. I love all their desserts, but went with the key lime pie which was amazing. They also have boozy ice cream drinks if you prefer a drinkable dessert. Service is always excellent with a good number of servers who have been with Alexander's for many years. Definitely make a reservation if you want to dine here. It's popular for a good reason.

Sooo... I really wanted to love this place…read more We made a day trip to Door County and had a long list of restaurants to choose from. After reading countless reviews, we picked this one as our #1 dinner choice because it seemed to have great vibes and a beautiful outdoor garden overlooking Lake Michigan. The setting absolutely lived up to the hype, and that alone earns it a star. We arrived a little early for our reservation and decided to grab a drink at the bar. My mom simply asked if they had any watermelon or pineapple seltzers, and instead of answering, the bartender just handed her a drink menu and walked away. It was a small interaction, but it came across as dismissive, so we decided not to order drinks. We were seated shortly after in a wonderful spot in the garden. We had our dog with us, and it was the perfect outdoor setting for her to relax while we enjoyed dinner. Our server was pleasant, but she didn't seem very attentive or able to read the table. We started with the Brussels sprouts, which were delicious and probably the highlight of the meal. We know this restaurant is especially known for its whitefish and lobster boil. After tasting our meals, my mother said she wished she had ordered the whitefish since we'd heard such amazing things about it. Unfortunately, when it became obvious that we weren't enjoying our food, our server never asked if something was wrong or if we'd like to try something else. The crab Rangoon dip was just okay. The lobster bisque was completely flavorless--the worst lobster bisque I've ever had, and I order it whenever it's on a menu. The sage butter gnocchi was equally bland and lacked any real flavor. My mom ordered the ribeye, and she said it tasted more like a sirloin and was totally overcooked. It lacked the rich flavor you'd expect from a ribeye and had quite a bit of fat. She only ate a few bites before giving most of it to the dog. The vegetables (I believe asparagus or broccolini) weren't good, and the au gratin potatoes were equally disappointing. The only real win was my son's chicken tenders. He's an extremely picky eater, and he genuinely enjoyed them. What disappointed us most was how the situation was handled. When our server checked back, she asked how everything was, and we replied, "It's alright." Later, when she saw that our plates were still mostly full and asked if we wanted boxes, we said no. That would have been the perfect opportunity to ask if something was wrong or if there was anything they could do. Instead, the conversation ended there and the check was placed on the table. At that point, we just wanted to leave. Between the underwhelming service, the bland food, and the high prices, the experience simply wasn't worth it. We left feeling incredibly disappointed, annoyed and hungry. It's unfortunate because the location and atmosphere are beautiful, and we truly wanted this restaurant to be a highlight of our trip. Sadly, if we make it back to Baileys Harbor, we won't be returning.

Two of us got Beef Wellington which they are known for. Both of us who ordered this have had it several times in the past at other restaurants. We both started eating it and we looked at each other and realized neither one of us liked the nasty taste of it. We both had a few more bits and tried to like because it cost so much. We both felt kind of sick and it just laid in our stomachs. Our waiter felt bad and talked to the manager who gave us a percentage off but because we gave most our meal back and really were not feeling good we did not want to try anything else. So my son talked to the manager who was not easy to talk to and asked for the two meals to be removed from our bill. He insinuated we were just trying to get a free meal which was not the case. Instead of apologizing for how we felt he would rather accuse us instead of making things right. First time to try this place and will not be going back because of the attitude of the manager. Thank you to the rest of the staff for being so professional and caring.

The place is huge, and has 4 distinct dining areas and a capacity of 400 guests. The 4 areas include the popular and extensive patio area, a lower dining room by their bar, a large upper main dining room, and another upper level dining area (where we sat) with a view of the patio. Corinne was our friendly, attentive, and capable veteran server with 17 years experience here. Wife ordered their breaded grouper with mashed potatoes. It went for $39.95 and included a traditional French onion soup without cheese. I had their queen sized prime rib for $44.95 and it included a cherry spinach salad and rice pilaf. It was a nice medium rare as expected and it was all delicious and filling for both the wife and myself. The dishes were quite good values when considering the portion sizes and the quality of the mains and the sides. I also had a delightful Wisconsin Old Fashioned for a very reasonable $8.25! Apparently they also offer a Wisconsin Old Fashioned with a premium brandy that goes for $13.50, but the $8.25 version was delicious and plenty good enough for me and it packed a punch too btw. It really wasn't that busy for a Saturday night and the food came out readily. It felt like throughout our visit this weekend that vacation traffic was not at expected summer peaks and the pro-tip in theory here is that the first weekend in June is typically not as busy as school has just let out and families aren't in vacation swing just yet. We really enjoyed the quaint and colorful venue along with the good value dinner and I would not hesitate to return except that there are so many other restaurants to try up here!
