Dumplings

It took 15 minutes for them to prep Pork n Chive dumplings but they were friendly about it. I took that time to pop into the convenience shop around the corner and get a nice beverage. The lack of seating makes this place less than ideal for eating there, and it's more of a takeout spot for UT students. The Pork n Chive dumplings were a generous portion, good value, tender, juicy, and with well-executed wrapper. I'd suggest trying this spot if you're in the area. The dumplings are similar to NYC Chinatown.

Liang pi! Liang pi! Liang pi! My favorite dish - so so fresh and light especially during the summer when it's hot outside. One of my favorite dishes from here - I always want some when I'm in town. They are also so sweet and they make the food so fast!!

The food was great but one thing I didn't like is the lack of transparency with credit card payments. The woman quoted me $17 something, took my credit card, swiped it on her machine and handed it back to me with no receipt. When I checked my credit card bill, I was charged a little over $19. Perhaps she added a tip for me which I would have given anyway but I would like to have been able to see and sign off on the final charge. I was quoted 15 minutes for food but it was more like 25 minutes. I ordered the beef noodle soup and the liang pi. The beef was tender and the noodles had a nice bite to them. The broth was tasty but not terribly complex. Overall, a satisfying version because of the noodles, but just average when it comes to flavor. The liang pi was also tasty albeit a little watery once you mixed everything together. The noodles and gluten all had a great texture and the chili oil is something I could drink for days. I'd come back but be more prepared for the service.

Nestled into the alley is the happy orange truck you're looking for :)

I've not seen liang pi offered outside of New York so it was a real delight to find it here in Austin! The "Chinese hamburger" is also a Xi'an classic. The wheat noodles are made fresh, in house (pretty impressive considering how big their space is). The liangpi had a slippery texture with a toothsome bite. I mixed everything in my takeout box together: shredded cucumber, bean sprouts, chewy gluten cubes, chili oil, and dressing and it was so good! A little crunchy, a little chewy. Savory, spicy, and tart. Something to write home about :) The "hamburger" was a tasty snack. I think they make the bun in-house as well - I've not seen that kind of bun in any other store. The filing was finally chopped braised meat. No veggies. The bun was toasted to provide a nice crunch. I'd pick it over an American hamburger, but I might be biased. For the quality and price, Chef Hong is a great place to go! Paying in cash also gets you a little discount so that's pretty nice.

Great food. I had the Shrimp Chow Mein and liang pi. All the food was yummy.

Yummy food. I had the Shrimp Cow Mein and Liang Pi. Both were very good. Hopefully they can get to a location that has some parking. Worth the walk though.

Edit: You can buy their chili oil by the jar! $5.75 for 8oz of their homemade goodness...great deal!!! -- So incredibly delicious!!! And the type of food that's not easy to find in most Chinese restaurants too! This is northern chinese cuisine. It's a tiny little trailer tucked in a little space that doesn't even have a proper address. Map your way to 907 W 24th St, and you'll see this orange trailer across the street. The words saying "Chef Hong" are under the window and kind of faded. But the best food often comes from little places like this! I ordered the Rou Jia Mo/Chinese hamburger which is kind of like a cumin-y pulled pork deal. Really well seasoned, juicy meat. The bread isn't too thick and the whole thing is well proportioned. $4.00 and it's pretty large! I also got Liangpi, which is a slightly spicy peanutty cold noodle and dang this is so mouthwateringly tasty. They have the sauces in containers so you don't have to worry about it spilling. It's super refreshing and perfect for a warm day where you want chewy noodles but not something hot. Their chili crisp/sauce is incredible... I wonder if I can buy a jar for home? Portion size is again large and only $7. If you get both the roujiamo and the liangpi, that's enough food for two people. And I would recommend getting the two together because i like to dip the roujiamo into the excess liangpi sauce. I texted in my order (to the phone number listed here on Yelp) and it was ready about 15 minutes later. If you pay in cash, make sure to still leave a tip!

zha jiang mian and beef noodle soup

YUMMY! This food truck really reminds me of my mom's cooking, I will definitely be coming back here when I crave her food! The staff are really friendly and the price for a meal is very reasonable. We tried the Chinese Hamburger, zha jiang mian and beef noodle soup. The hamburger was very tasty, the bread was chewy and the meat was soft. The zha jiang mian was very flavorful and the noodles are so hearty. The meat sauce was a bit too salty in my opinion but it would tasty really good with more vegetables to soak up the salt. The beef noodle soup was also pretty delicious. The noodles are the very large, chewy ones and the beef is very soft and tender. I wish there was more vegetables (specifically bok choy instead of lettuce) but overall still tasty. Great little gem in west campus! Recommend if you want authentic Chinese food.

The most authentic Chinese food I've had during my first year in Austin. The item most worth your money is probably the Jajiangmian (noodles with bean paste and meat sauce), but the roujiamo (Chinese hamburger) is a great snack and liangpi (cold noodles) are great for summer days. Filling portions and no tax if you pay with cash.

Liangpi, Chicken Fried Rice, Pork & Chives Dumplings

Been wanting to try this food truck for a while after hearing many great things about it. For me, it was alright. Everything was ready in 15 minutes. Flavor of everything I got was pretty good, good portion, fried rice was unfortunately really average, dumpling sauce was maybe too vinegary for me, liangpi noodles--unique & had nice texture, but the chill oil did make everything taste a bit better :)

The best food we had our entire time in Austin, man was super friendly! The dumplings can be described as scrumptious and thoroughly filling. For the two weeks after we left Austin every morning I would wake up at 7:53 AM and just think about what could've been if I moved to Austin and would be able to have these dumplings every day.

This Food Trailer won me over in just one short visit on a late night when I had a craving for Chinese cuisine and utilized Yelp to help me find a well respected highly reviewed place. Well, Chef Hong did not disappoint. I think these guys are the Real McCoy. There seems to be a lot of authenticity to their recipes, and I like the fact that they have some diverse items on the menu. I am not really a Lo Mein person but the reviews and pics looked appetizing I ended up ordering the Chicken Lo Mein and it was really good. The quality was up to par, it was not heavy noodles that weighed you down, my only complaint was I would have like a little more chicken - but overall this dish was very tasty and I highly recommend. I always ask for recommendations - like what their top sellers are, and they mentioned this dish with veggies and noodles with a warm beef-like stew that's served separately so you pour it on your dish. I saw Yelp pictures and read the glowing reviews and gave this a try - and it wowed me. Something different I've never tried, the beef stew-like concoction had a slight vinegar taste as it meshed well with the bowl of fresh veggies and noodles. A very savory and hearty dish that I would definitely get again and again. The steamed dumplings were very good, and I loved the dipping sauce which was spot-on authentic. I knew one sauce cup wasn't enough so I asked for extra and they gladly gave it to me w/o any up-charge. Then the guy asked me if I "like spicy food" - hell yeahs - so he pulls out this big white plastic bucket with a big ladle and scoops out some of their homemade spicy chili sauce. Oh my goodness, it looked and smelled so nice I asked him for an extra ladle - and that took my dish over the top! It's their own recipe and tasted different than all the other hot chili oils I've had elsewhere. It's so good that it's one of those items that they should bottle up and sell over the counter. There's some kick to it but not as spicy as you think - it was very tolerable - you should try it. For the price - which was slightly premium (IMO) - it was still well worth it because the quality was very good and the dishes were also unique and tasted great. Plus that homemade hot chili sauce put them over the top. There are several other dishes I need to try here, and overall this trailer has a lot of good going on and I highly recommend.

Extra chili oil on left. Chicken chow mein, chive and pork dumplings, and bean and meat sauce with noodles.

Great Chicken Chow Mein! 8.50 + tax is a little pricy, but the serving size is very big, so I expect that it will be two meals for me.

The place reminded me of Ling Wu in the Grove area because the decor looked similar. Maybe they are owned by the same people? Firstly, I was impressed with the fact they had a FREE parking garage nearby since this is in the downtown area and next to Whole Foods. It took me a bit to find it as I'm directionally challenged, but I did and was just running a bit late. We really enjoyed the food and cocktails. I got the Singaporean noodles, a mezcal drink, and a sake. The serving size was big so I had plenty to take home. We shared many of the other dumplings and dim sum items. Everything was very good! The place wasn't too crowded so after we paid our bill we sat around for a while longer to chat and catch up. Usually someone would come by to see if we needed or wanted anything further, but no one did so we kept chatting and left. I'm happy to know of a central location with easy parking as a future place to meet people. I wish they had a happy hour because the bill for 3 of us was unexpectedly higher than usual.

If you are looking for Americanized Chinese food that you could find all over in the 1980's this is…read morethe best I have found in several decades with the added bonus of not feeling hungry again in 30 minutes and no MSG hangover. There was nothing that I would not eat again, but the highlight was definitely the crab rangoon, the best that I have ever had anywhere and I have lived in 5 countries on 4 different continents and been to another 32 countries. The PuPu platter was good, but I would likely go with separate items in the future with potentially skipping the shrimp and spring rolls. I really liked the ability to pick the spice level on the entrées. I recommend ordering the fried rice entrée, the fried rice that comes with the other entrées is ok, but the fried rice entrée really takes it up flavor wise. I have to assume the Indonesian food is authentic as there were at least 5 families in traditional dress going in for pickup or dinner. I definitely look forward to trying Indonesian selection next time around. It is a family owned establishment and they could not be nicer. Definitely worth the out of the way drive for me.
