Liang Pi
Rachel J.

The Liang Pi is so good and hits right in the spot! I've had Liang Pi at many other restaurants in Houston and in China, and so I wasn't expecting to find something on par in Austin. But I saw that reviews were great, and it peaked my interest. So glad I gave it a try!! Part 2 Review: I came back to get the Liang Pi again, but they were sold out:( The Beef Noodle Soup was alright.

It took 15 minutes for them to prep Pork n Chive dumplings but they were friendly about it. I took that time to pop into the convenience shop around the corner and get a nice beverage. The lack of seating makes this place less than ideal for eating there, and it's more of a takeout spot for UT students. The Pork n Chive dumplings were a generous portion, good value, tender, juicy, and with well-executed wrapper. I'd suggest trying this spot if you're in the area. The dumplings are similar to NYC Chinatown.

Liang pi! Liang pi! Liang pi! My favorite dish - so so fresh and light especially during the summer when it's hot outside. One of my favorite dishes from here - I always want some when I'm in town. They are also so sweet and they make the food so fast!!

Great food. I had the Shrimp Chow Mein and liang pi. All the food was yummy.

Yummy food. I had the Shrimp Cow Mein and Liang Pi. Both were very good. Hopefully they can get to a location that has some parking. Worth the walk though.

The food was great but one thing I didn't like is the lack of transparency with credit card payments. The woman quoted me $17 something, took my credit card, swiped it on her machine and handed it back to me with no receipt. When I checked my credit card bill, I was charged a little over $19. Perhaps she added a tip for me which I would have given anyway but I would like to have been able to see and sign off on the final charge. I was quoted 15 minutes for food but it was more like 25 minutes. I ordered the beef noodle soup and the liang pi. The beef was tender and the noodles had a nice bite to them. The broth was tasty but not terribly complex. Overall, a satisfying version because of the noodles, but just average when it comes to flavor. The liang pi was also tasty albeit a little watery once you mixed everything together. The noodles and gluten all had a great texture and the chili oil is something I could drink for days. I'd come back but be more prepared for the service.

Nestled into the alley is the happy orange truck you're looking for :)

I've not seen liang pi offered outside of New York so it was a real delight to find it here in Austin! The "Chinese hamburger" is also a Xi'an classic. The wheat noodles are made fresh, in house (pretty impressive considering how big their space is). The liangpi had a slippery texture with a toothsome bite. I mixed everything in my takeout box together: shredded cucumber, bean sprouts, chewy gluten cubes, chili oil, and dressing and it was so good! A little crunchy, a little chewy. Savory, spicy, and tart. Something to write home about :) The "hamburger" was a tasty snack. I think they make the bun in-house as well - I've not seen that kind of bun in any other store. The filing was finally chopped braised meat. No veggies. The bun was toasted to provide a nice crunch. I'd pick it over an American hamburger, but I might be biased. For the quality and price, Chef Hong is a great place to go! Paying in cash also gets you a little discount so that's pretty nice.

The most authentic Chinese food I've had during my first year in Austin. The item most worth your money is probably the Jajiangmian (noodles with bean paste and meat sauce), but the roujiamo (Chinese hamburger) is a great snack and liangpi (cold noodles) are great for summer days. Filling portions and no tax if you pay with cash.

Edit: You can buy their chili oil by the jar! $5.75 for 8oz of their homemade goodness...great deal!!! -- So incredibly delicious!!! And the type of food that's not easy to find in most Chinese restaurants too! This is northern chinese cuisine. It's a tiny little trailer tucked in a little space that doesn't even have a proper address. Map your way to 907 W 24th St, and you'll see this orange trailer across the street. The words saying "Chef Hong" are under the window and kind of faded. But the best food often comes from little places like this! I ordered the Rou Jia Mo/Chinese hamburger which is kind of like a cumin-y pulled pork deal. Really well seasoned, juicy meat. The bread isn't too thick and the whole thing is well proportioned. $4.00 and it's pretty large! I also got Liangpi, which is a slightly spicy peanutty cold noodle and dang this is so mouthwateringly tasty. They have the sauces in containers so you don't have to worry about it spilling. It's super refreshing and perfect for a warm day where you want chewy noodles but not something hot. Their chili crisp/sauce is incredible... I wonder if I can buy a jar for home? Portion size is again large and only $7. If you get both the roujiamo and the liangpi, that's enough food for two people. And I would recommend getting the two together because i like to dip the roujiamo into the excess liangpi sauce. I texted in my order (to the phone number listed here on Yelp) and it was ready about 15 minutes later. If you pay in cash, make sure to still leave a tip!

zha jiang mian and beef noodle soup

YUMMY! This food truck really reminds me of my mom's cooking, I will definitely be coming back here when I crave her food! The staff are really friendly and the price for a meal is very reasonable. We tried the Chinese Hamburger, zha jiang mian and beef noodle soup. The hamburger was very tasty, the bread was chewy and the meat was soft. The zha jiang mian was very flavorful and the noodles are so hearty. The meat sauce was a bit too salty in my opinion but it would tasty really good with more vegetables to soak up the salt. The beef noodle soup was also pretty delicious. The noodles are the very large, chewy ones and the beef is very soft and tender. I wish there was more vegetables (specifically bok choy instead of lettuce) but overall still tasty. Great little gem in west campus! Recommend if you want authentic Chinese food.

Liangpi, Chicken Fried Rice, Pork & Chives Dumplings

Been wanting to try this food truck for a while after hearing many great things about it. For me, it was alright. Everything was ready in 15 minutes. Flavor of everything I got was pretty good, good portion, fried rice was unfortunately really average, dumpling sauce was maybe too vinegary for me, liangpi noodles--unique & had nice texture, but the chill oil did make everything taste a bit better :)

The best food we had our entire time in Austin, man was super friendly! The dumplings can be described as scrumptious and thoroughly filling. For the two weeks after we left Austin every morning I would wake up at 7:53 AM and just think about what could've been if I moved to Austin and would be able to have these dumplings every day.

Extra chili oil on left. Chicken chow mein, chive and pork dumplings, and bean and meat sauce with noodles.

Super tasty hand torn noodles and other authentic dishes. The noodle portions sizes are pretty good for the price, highly recommend!

Amazing authentic Chinese food. "Al dente"noodles if you can use that word for Chinese food. Perfect seasoning.

I've been wanting to try this place for so long and I'm so glad I finally did The chicken tenders…read morewere pretty big and juicy. I got the spicy tenders and they had a spicy aftertaste but they weren't TOO spicy - my nose only sweat a little The spicy chicken paired with the fluffy sweet waffle with syrup was a crazy good combination. I love a good sweet and savory combo The french fries were gorgeous. Thicc, crisp outside, soft inside, and some yummy ass seasoning They were great on their own but once I dipped them in the longhorn sauce ... GAME OVER. ugh so good. Sandro got the chicken sandwich and it was just as good. The brioche bun was toasted and it came with ranch and pickles (he asked for no pickles though) He also added some of the longhorn sauce to his sandwich and it tasted great. I don't know what they put in the longhorn sauce to make it so good and addicting... but that sauce HITTTTSSSS Last but not least, the mac&cheese was SUPER creamy and did not last very long because it was very tasty I love Longhorn Chicken. We got great service and everything we ate was absolutely delicious. They get 5 chefs kisses from me ‍
