New favorite restaurant in Morristown! Wait staff was so personable and friendly. We ordered the "taste of the sea" special and veal entree. Both were incredible. Can't beat BYOB and the waiter repeatedly telling us to stay as long as we wanted. Camt wait to come back soon!! read more

I enjoyed my overall experience at Chef Fredy's Table. The sidewalk atmosphere was actually kind of fun and the staff was very friendly. However, I contemplated ordering the $22 salmon. The waiter suggested the veal special. It sounded good however, he neglected to tell me that the veal special was $48. The wait staff should be upfront with the price. The meal was mediocre and definitely not worth $48. I don't want to call it a "bait and switch "but definitely overpriced. My friends meal was good and fairly priced. Also I asked about the $39.99 price fixed menu, Despite the sign clearly saying available 4 to 8 PM, the waiter told us it was not available "tonight " read more

This evening was the first time we were able to dine out and Chef Fredy's Table was the perfect remedy! Of course the food was excellent but the service and attention to detail on their first day open was quite impressive. It feels great to be able to go out and support local businesses. read more

Last night was so much fun! We did not have a reservation but last moment walked and asked if they can accommodate a table for four outside they did accommodate us it was a beautiful night sitting outside with the heaters . The staff was wonderful and very accommodating and couldn't do enough for you. The food was wonderful we had the calamari tuna and stuffed mushrooms with crab meat absolutely delicious. The main courses were wonderful the ravioli with the goat cheese and fig were out of this world not to mention the wonderful assortment of desserts.. Truly a restaurant I recommend for everyone to try who knows gourmet food. read more

The jambalaya was exquisite: spiced but not overly spicy. A rich brown gravy full of flavor! My fellow diners' steaks were buttery and cooked to perfection! Extremely attentive staff that couldn't do enough for you..loved it! read more

Very attractive BYOB restaurant directly across from the Headquarters Plaza Theaters. Parking is difficult but valet parking is available ($10) or you can self park in the Plaza's lot. The menu is amply varied and the food was expertly prepared. Fresh fish options were great as was the seared duck breast (served very rare but at my request made perfectly medium). Deserts are a little pricey at $9 each. This restaurant would rate 5 stars if not for the fact that it is very noisy. read more

I took my wife to dinner at Chef Freddy's for Valentine's Day. We had a fantastic dinner and enjoyed a great wine (BYOB!)... we left a $100 tip on a $105 tab.. I decided to take a group of colleagues again the following evening. Again the dinner was fantastic and they remembered me from the night before - BUT tonight the wait staff actually stole our alcohol!! It's a BYOB and when we leaving they brought the rest our our wine and beer back and they had stolen an entire bottle of wine and a six pack of beer and drank it in the kitchen...I was actually planning on leaving some for them but they took it instead...that is plain and simple stealing and now I cannot go back there again. This is by far the best restaurant I have been to in Morristown. The food and the service was excellent. Waiters really paid attention to tables and created a pleasant atmosphere. Everything was cooked to perfection. It was a little pricey but the fact thats is byob is a bonus. read more

What an all around wonderful establishment. I had made a reservation at another eatery in the area. When the number of our party increased they were not able to accommodate. One hour prior to the time a reservation was needed a call was placed to Chef Freddy's and they were able to fit us in. That being said - the food and service are outstanding. Will definitely return and recommend. Thank you for making it a great evening. read more

This food was as amazing as everyone says. It was a Surprisingly mild day, the day that I went here. But the evening was cold. We ate outdoors and the space heaters do the trick, it's amazing how warm they make the area. I don't know what was better, the wait staff, or the food. Both were A+ read more

Stopped in with a friend for lunch before a matinee across the street. We shared the calamari appetizer and we each had the vegan plate. Everything was absolutely delicious. First time here but will most certainly return. Excellent service from our friendly, attentive server and great food. Perfect afternoon stop! read more

We went to celebrate and boy did Fredy's not let down! The food was absolutely delicious, the service was impeccable, and Fredy came out at the end of the night to thank each table. We will definitely be coming back as we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. read more

Chef Fredy's Table is amazing! 5 stars for atmosphere, 5 stars for service, 5 stars for cuisine! From the moment you walk into this family run establishment you are treated like family! The menu has something for everyone. There are always delicious steak specials and fresh fish specials. Every dish Chef Fredy creates is delicious. You are never rushed through your meal. Make sure you leave room for dessert! Thank you, Chef Fredy's, for a wonderful dining experience! read more

Solid meal. Started off with the baked brie, which was very good, and the brisket raviolli -in a creamy sauce, with mushrooms- that was fantastic. My entree was the jambalaya. Great rendition of the NOLA classic, with a creamy sauce and spicy. The quantity and quality of the seafood was outstanding. Overall the food was very good, but I felt it was a bit expensive. The decor looks outdated, and the place is a bit too noisy. But as far as the food goes, you will be pleased! 3 of 5, only because of the price/value ratio, the place a bit too much on the expensive side. read more

Excellent food and service! We were running late and only had 30 minutes until the movie started across the street. I mentioned this to the hostess and she passed it on to the waiter. He came out right away, made recommendations and we ordered. As he was walking away I got up and mentioned to my son that I was going next door to get a beer to have with dinner. When I got back there was a chilled beer glass, water, and bread at the table. The food followed soon after and we were able to eat in a reasonable time. We got to the theater during the trailers. read more

Tim Schafer's is not doing well; - They raised their prices over 15%. - They compromised the quality of their food. - They pad the bill...watch out if your drinking as they will increase the price of something then blame it on the computer. - The older waiter is a phoney...watch out for him. The food: The stuffed pork chop used to be good now they are cutting corners. We tried it a month ago and it was dry and no cheese so we gave it another try. Low and behold, it was dry again and a smaller chop but lot's of fillers ...such as potatoes. What a disapointment. We will never go back! They lost 6 pretty steady cutsomers. read more

Meh... In our first two courses, nothing was particularly bad... my wife had no real complaints about her salad or her salmon, and I had few complaints about my Zucchini Flower appetizer (meh!) or my entree; 2 medallions of Fillet Mignon which were properly cooked to medium rare, but had little to offer in the way of flavor and got no support from the accompanying, inedibly bland mashed potatoes. The high point in both of our entrees was the nicely cooked, lightly buttered vegetables. Of course, on a $35 entree, I would hope to do better than "nothing was particularly bad". For desert, my wife had the Coconut Sorbet, which tasted pretty good, but was heavily crystallized and felt freezer burned on the tongue. She mashed it up, stirred it and made a go of it. On the server's recommendation, I had the chocolate cake. I think it was called "death by chocolate", or something equally brilliant. The cake had the texture of an ice cold mousse, or a chilled, weak fudge and the flavor of dark chocolate mud. I took one bite and left the rest of the plate untouched. Interestingly enough, in spite of frequent queries about our food from the staff during the first two courses, noone came calling to check on our desert, or my untouched plate. This place advertises that they cook with PASSION... and our food tasted like anything BUT passion. Most of our food was prepared competently and served in a timely manner, but NOTHING tasted great, and with the side vegetables being the only thing that even gets a good rating, we will not be returning here. read more

Went there during Covid..food is still out of this world and they took over the pazo spot for fabulous spaced out outdoor dining. A real Covid winner and they deserve it. Great service as usual..just with a mask!! read more

Nice restaurant and excellent service -- but the food is mediocre at best. We ate here for dinner and had several dishes including two different kids of fish, which were both overcooked. We also had the short ribs, which were tasty but tough, and a filet, which was decent and easily the best dish of the evening. Deserts were equally disappointing. Given the other reviews, either we ate here on a really off night or the people claiming the food is excellent need to spend a few days in Manhattan learning what excellent food really tastes like. Again, aside from the food, the restaurant is very nice. The ambiance is quite good and as I said above, the service was excellent. read more

I was here for a birthday party, when we arrived the table was nicely set up for us. Everyone was very nice, our waiter was very sweet, he was trying to help us choose dishes, and trying to serve alcohol as soon as everyone got there. This place is BYOB. I had South Western Style Duck Quesadilla for the starters, and Roasted Long Island Duckling, presentation was beautiful, food tasted great. Atmosphere was pleasant, with kind of old fashion style. When we arrived we were there alone, but closer to 8 pm this place was popping!!! Thanks to the chef for the great food!!! read more

Everyone liked their meals and some LOVED them. Jambalaya was amazing. Duck VERY good and mixed grill also very well received. Banana bread pudding was delicious. Would definitely come back!! read more

What an amazing meal! We haven't been here since their remodel, but now the restaurant is absolutely gorgeous ... feels like you are stepping into a Manhattan restaurant. The food was out of this world (one of the most amazing lobster tails I have ever had in the seafood trilogy ... and let's not forget a Tartufo to die for). And Chef Freddy himself visited every table on a busy Friday night to jovially greet guests. Exceptional restaurant, staff, and vibe. Grab a bottle of wine (it's BYO), and try this place asap! read more

Excellent restaurant. The staff is highly attentive to detail and the menu is interesting and well planned. The restaurant is on open table to make reservations easy, and is a BYO which is also a plus. The regular menu features staples with interesting touches such as the fried calamari app with some cajun influence. Had the buffalo special last night and was a home run. There is a nice ambience and it creates a pleasurable dining experience. read more

Be careful what you order. I ordered a special of lobster, shrimp and scallops specifically telling the waiter to omit the scallops as I am allergic. But, when the food arrived, there were scallops on the plate which I mistook as potatoes, which had I took a bite, I would have been terribly ill! Not a happy customer. Only offered us coffee on the house. My husband and I dine out every weekend and will never go there again. read more

Our group of 4 had dinner there last night. BYO which is great. The main issue was the service, which was spotty. Empty water glasses not being refilled without asking, etc. The place is very "bright" in auditory terms.... which makes it difficult to hear one another. Last night it was maybe 25 to 30% full and it was ok but with a full house, it wouldn't be possible. So if you're looking for quiet and romantic, maybe this isn't the place for you. On top of the relatively noisy space, the waiter who was good at his job and attentive had a thick accent so it was very hard to understand. We had to ask him to repeat the special menu items several times. The food was very good but not excellent.... and everyone was served together. My tuna was very good and perfectly medium rare but not hot. Watch out for the calamari which isn't fried but rather sauteed and very spicy. With so many excellent options we won't be back to Chef Fredy's anytime soon. read more

Really impressed. The service was very friendly and considerate. The food was excellent and plated well. Will definitely be coming back.

Chef Fredy's Table - Ambience - New American Near Me - Morristown, New Jersey

See all

This is based on one visit, but I think it is accurate. Freddy's is a small BYOB in Morristown. The entry way is a tight hallway with nowhere to sit and wait for your party or your table. Inside the service is polite to the point of friendly, and yet perfectly professional, a highlight of the experience. I had a Caesar that was over-dressed romaine lettuce w/ stale croutons. My sister had the tuna app. She found it satisfying but not a rave. I had the duck which was properly prepared but poorly sauced, and she had the lamb, half of which remained on the plate at the end of dinner. To no fault of the restaurant, we sat directly in front of a LOUD table of 10. The small dining room could not accommodate the bustle. Not terrible, but not worth driving into Morristown. read more

Oh yea- this is one great Mo'town restaurant. I have never had a bad meal here ( been here about 5 times). The service is great too- I like to try new places, but this is the one that you always will go back to. If you havent been here, get this on your list fast and I look forward to reading your review,..because I told ya so ; ) read more

The decor, service and food were so bad that I expected "kitchen nightmares" to be filming. We started with baked brie, the brie was warm and didn't mix well with the cold fruit compote. For the entree we got the duck, pork chop, chicken and filet mignon. The duck was inedible and we sent it back (1st time ever done this but for $30...) everything else got "edible". For $30 an entree this is ridiculous. In summary, don't waste your money or time. read more

Service was great, very attentive and professional. The appetizers of tuna tartare and the fig ravioli were really good. The main courses of surf and turf (filet and lobster tail), and rack of lamb, were good but not great. Rack of lamb was a bit over cooked, not seasoned enough and tough. It just didn't seem like quality prime meat. Certainly not nearly enough quality for $47 cost which was just ridiculous for this rack of lamb. The filet was also good not great. And again a bit overpriced. I don't mind paying $$$ for quality but this meal fell a bit short. All in all a good meal, but not good enough to justify the prices. read more

Disappointed. I asked for a candle on the dessert as we were celebrating a birthday. Called ahead to make sure we were clear. The waiter started to sing happy birthday before he even brought dessert out. He was so quiet I couldn't even hear him singing. Never got the candle or the song. Food was ok for the price. read more

Let me tell you about Tim Schaefers..... This probably the best restaurant in Morristown. Freddy (the chef) is an awesome guy and knows exactly what he is doing. I have eaten dinner here multiple times and I even hosted a client dinner for 50 here. Once we went in during lunch and asked Freddy to cook for us. We had calamaris, scallops, striped bass, and elk (yes elk) and then washed it down with an espresso and a chocolate mousse. Nestor (the manager) is also super organized and make sure everyone is taken care of. I would highly recommend this place for lunch, dinner and anything else in between. Its not often you find a restaurant like this without paying $100 a head. read more

Went with 6 people on Saturday. It was packed. the food was great as was the service. There was a bit of a wait for the entree but no major complaint there. The problem is THE NOISE! I literally was not able to speak with the couple at the end of our table. This is not an exaggeration. It ruined the dinner. This apparently can be fixed with sound panels. They should look into it. Wanted to give it more stars because of the foodd and service but I just can't. read more

My wife and I went here the other day for a much needed night out alone. Very friendly service, a nice small cozy restaurant located on speedwell across from headquarters. We both liked our dishes very much. She got a chicken and pasta dish while I had a the beef short ribs special. Very tasty sauce and perfectly cooked on the ribs. Calamari for an appy was excellent in a spicy balsamic sauce. Dessert was just ok. It's BYO which is always nice. Overall a real good experience, will definitely return. Esp nice with a $25 restaurant dot com GC for only $3! read more

I usually base my reviews off the typical 3 categories - Food, Atmosphere, Service - in that order. However if dining at Tim Schafer's was the norm, service would be rated first, then food, then atmosphere. Why may you ask? because at Tim Schafer's I felt like I was treated like royalty. From the second I walked in the front door I was treated as if they were awaiting my arrival with my beautiful girlfriend all night. Like the restaurant was solely ours, like we were the most important people dining that night. The host quickly and politely greeted us, handled our BYOB right out of my hand, and sat us promptly. Our server, Louis, was exceptional. While you speak among each other he will fill up your drinking glass without us even noticing. Our beverages were quickly put on ice, he knew the menu and the specials for the night without any hesitation. After questions were thoroughly answered and decisions were finally made (I say finally because everything on the menu sounded delicious) we were left to sip on our drinks while we enjoyed some fresh bread & olive oil. It seemed like before we could finish one conversation our meals were in front of us. My girlfriend quickly commented on how it felt like we just ordered a few minutes ago. We decided to skip appetizers to indulge in some desert after our dinner. The plating or "presentation" was beautiful. I had the duck, while my girlfriend had swordfish. I tried a few bites of hers, and she tried a few bites of mine. Her swordfish was a special, and was buttery and cooked to perfection. My duck exactly how I liked it and was very good. The entire evening was filled with nothing but exceptional service and great food. Truly what a fine dining experience should feel like in my opinion. If I were to be asked a recommendation for dinner, Tim Schafer's has now moved to my #1 spot. I hope to go back to try some of their other dishes and be wined and dined all over again. My girlfriend whole heartily agrees. I left Tim Schafer's with a realization that everything was so good I didn't have to think about any of my review "ratings" - I left Tim's with the ability to concentrate solely on how lucky of a person I am to be able to have an evening that was provided at Mr. Schafer's. A+ 5/5 read more

I have been here twice now and both of the times were wonderful. This is one of the "fancier" (more expensive) restaurants on Morristown, which seems kind of silly to me since it's a ways down Speedwell, which I don't consider to be the nicest street downtown. That aside, the food here is really wonderful. The menu is always changing to include fresh ingredients and exciting combinations. What I really love is that even though the menu does not look vegetarian friendly at first glance, they are always willing to accommodate me when I tell them of my dietary restrictions. Both times I ended up with delicious "special" meals. The reason for docking a star is because I do find the prices to be too steep. But, thank you yelp for always offering deals at this place! That's been very helpful to the wallet. read more
