Over years of going to this restaurant it has continuously gotten worse. There was a time you always got brick oven bread with your meal. Now prices have gone up for everyone, understood. But the to go containers have gotten smaller & you're lucky if you get bread 2 out of 10 times there to pickup. And I asked for it with my order. This is just a nice upscale casual place. It was about half full with folks of all age groups. Ladies in groups of up to seven. Older couples. Families with Mom, Dad, Grandparents and well behaved kids. Service was prompt and helpful. I had the Caesar Salad and a brick oven pizza. The Caesar salad was, I kid you not, the best I ever had. It was crisp and delicious and the dressing was perfect. Creamy and perfectly balanced. The pizza was nothing special but was good. A local stalwart that seems to have a nice loyal following. I haven't been in a few years and I would say that our recent visit was ok/fine. Atmosphere was lively but it's a big open room with high ceilings so not much ambiance. Food was ok. Escarole and beans needed flavor. Cajun calamari was bit soggy and seemed to be merely sprinkled with a McCormicks Cajun spice. Pizza was pretty good but surely didn't seem as though it came out of a brick oven. Despite driving past this places hundreds of times, I finally stopped in to order take out. I chose the fish special - Crab and spinach encrusted salmon in a lobster sauce and served over risotto. There was ample sauce and much like everything we ordered - the portions of were bigger than expected. The fish special was very salty but good. The caesar salad had the right amount of dressing and pizza was good but the pieces of garlic were large and weren't chopped. I had family coming to town so decided to try Puleo's "Sunday Sauce Dinner Pot" I went for the large pot combo meat(sausage& meatball) Glad I did! I have been coming to the restaurant for over a decade now. I have always had a great meal here. When you arrive, the host greets you genuinely happy to see you, almost as if he knows you personally. The wait staff are friendly and attentive but not pestering. If you need to modify a menu item, you will likely be accomodated without question. The ambience of the restaurant is very nice. I had the original thin crust pizza with a Caesar salad and my wife had the house salad. There was plenty of pizza so we shared it. Met some friends for dinner here on Friday night. First time dining there. Very casual Italian BYOB place very close to the DD on Columbia Tpk. Appetizers and entrees were ok (not great) but what I can't get over is the two large screen tv's in the middle of the restaurant which had some reality dating show from a tropical island playing. What an absolutely delicious meal! Wifey and I went to dinner with my daughter and her boyfriend and his parents and we had a blast. None of us had ever been here before so we went in with our fingers crossed. This place is BYOB so we started with some wine and beer and we ordered a couple appetizers- a plate of fried Calamari and an order of Grilled portobello mushrooms with sliced garlic and olive oil. Calamari was done perfectly with a light breeding and came with a very nice marinara. I won't repeat this to my friends, but the grilled portobello was as tasty as some steaks I've had at other places. Wifey ordered the Salmon - Brick Oven Style with a side of broccoli rabe, I got the Pollo Arturo which was two parm crusted chicken breasts fried and topped with fresh mozzarella in a white wine sauce and a side of broccoli rabe, and my daughter had the plain Brick oven pizza. My daughter likes the pizza but I think was hoping for a more traditional brick oven pie...tasted great, but wanted a little different. Wifey said her salmon was perfectly cooked with some nice herbs and spices cooked on top of the filet. I don't order chicken out very often, but this looked intriguing and they hit the ball out of the park. Very nicely cooked and flavored and I practically licked the plate. Yeah broccoli rabe was excellent as well...easy for this to be bitter, but it was seasoned very well d the sliced garlic added a lot of flavor as well. I thought it was a little odd that they didn't offer side salads with dinner, but we didn't need them as I walked away stuffed. We tried a couple of desserts at the table and we shared cappuccino and pistachio gelato. Nice finish to an excellent meal. This place isn't big, and the parking lot is tight (at night you can park next door though). They fit a lot of people into a little space so don't expect a lot of room between tables, but we never felt 'crowded.' One item of note, they close at 9:30pm on Saturday night, but were nice enough to let us stay til after 10 as we chatted for a while. I would 100% recommend this place and I will be back to try a pasta meal next time. read more

The pizza came with a salad so I opted for the Caesar which came with premade croutons and dressing. The pizza, which I asked to have well done, came out while I was still eating the salad and was not well done. I found the crust lacking in any flavor and the pie to be over=dressed with toppings. The place is active and filled with happy diners. The menu has something for everyone, and I mean everyone. I went to the Specials menu and ordered Cheese ravioli with Vodka Sauce and Chicken. The dish was absolutely delicious. There are plenty of salads to choose from and I started with a house salad. A very generous portion I might add. Service was top notch and the bread basket and water carafe always full. Love the idea of the water carafe at each table. BYOB adds to its allure. We like to go early so it's not too crowded but reservations are a good idea. Love the Antipasto salad with meat with the BEST dressing (that you can take to go). Get it every time. Chicken arturo is my go to. Gets me going back everytime! Never dry, always full of flavor, and nice and thin. Perfectly family restaurant.

Came in with a group of 10. Bread comes.. with butter. At least I could ask for olive oil & vinegar (they gave us red vinegar... interesting, I was looking for balsamic, but the red worked, too). Service was prompt and kept our water refilled for the most part. Food.... eh, so-so experience. Most of us had salads - some remarked that the croutons on the Caesar were few and tiny, but mostly standard fare. The Focaccia bread sandwich... well, it was toasted so it held up okay about 1/2 way through each piece. After that, it had a tendency to fall apart. One colleague had sausage added -after- the pizza was cooked... she just scraped it off. Another had cold centers on her eggplant parm, and a third's pizza (thin crust is how they make it here in the oven you can watch) came too blackened around the edges for him to enjoy. The linguine with shrimp & spice was too watery to have great flavor. However, there was good food - a pepperoni pie with garlic was tasty, the aroma wafting over the table, and the fresh mozzarella and prosciutto sandwich with roasted red pepper was a tasty treat. Overall, mixed bag. I think they waited too long with some food to try to serve us all at the same time, but service was okay, and hit-and-miss on the dishes. Maybe it was that I was starving but this place had the BEST chicken parm I've had in... as long as I can remember. We got there and they said it was almost an hour wait! We were sad but knew it would be worth it in the end. They opened up our bottle of wine while we waited and we just sipped and chatted as we waited. Once we got our table everything was very quick. Great service, quick to fill up water cups and bring bread to the table. Soon after we ordered and that's when I tasted it... my new number 1 chicken parm. I don't think you can go wrong with any dish here so I'd recommend coming with a bigger group (**make a reservation) and trying everything family style. YUM read more

Loved everything about Puleo's from the moment we pulled in the parking lot. It has a real family restaurant feeling to it, its perfect for a date night or an entire family outing. There's just something very intimate and homey about Puleo's. For appetizers we went with Roasted Peppers and Fresh Mozzarella which also had fresh herbs and basil mixed in, also a little arugula mixed to catch all the seasoning and polish the plate off. For entrees I went with the chicken arabiatta and it brings some heat. Chicken was excellent and I doubled down by doing the chicken and sauce over the capellini and it was awesome. My wife went with a chicken, escarole and prosciutto dish which she loved and I devoured what few bites she let me have. The only thing better than the service was the food! I had a salad and chicken parm. Not a veggie guy, but decided on that as a side instead of pasta, and was happy I did. Delicious!! Did not need a knife to cut the chicken. The service was great. Not rushing us at all... Always keeping the bread basked filled and same with a carafe of water left on the table. We had not been to this place in several years, and now can't wait to return. Parking can be a challenge, but you can sneak into one of the two adjacent lots in the evening. Stopped into this place on a whim to get pizza. As others have said it is not a pizza place, but rather an Italian restaurant. Service was great from the host to the bar back. Food was good, Reasonably priced and good sizes. The vodka sauce was really good, the best I have had in recent memory. Another BYOB in North Jersey recommended by a friend of mine for 3 of us for dinner. After picking up a bottle at a local liquor store we swung over to this nicely appointed establishment. Greeted by a nice server and presented specials and menus. White paper covering the tables as hot fresh bread was served. Menu is family style Italian and everything looks pretty good going by. 1st thing up is Hotsy Totsy Shrimp lightly fried shrimp tossed with spicy marinara sauce . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .$9.95 quite good as this is their version of the Old Belmont Tavern's dish. Definitely the best thing we had all night. Moving on a small pizza was shared with Hot Salami. 6 small from their brick oven. Cheese would not stay on the pizza, the sauce was tasteless and the hot salami did nothing to revive this disaster. $9.95 3 entrees split. 1st was the Chicken Savoy with Potatoes and vegetables. Generous plate of food but the chicken was absolutely tasteless with no hint of pungent balsamic that should accompany this dish. Not enough potatoes and vegetables were steamed and also bland. $19.95 2nd Entrée was pasta in a light cream sauce with sausage. Good pasta dish also quite large but not much sausage to be found.. Of the 3 entrees this certainly was the best of the lot. $14.95 3rd entrée was Veal Franchese. Lightly battered but absolutely no flavor to the sauce not even a hint of lemon. Veal was tender and very tasty but again no sauce of any substance. $19.95 Service was good price points reasonable and the place crowded but quite honestly aside from the Hotsy Totsy shrimp there is no reason whatsoever to ever return here. 2 Stars as quality of food was good but without any flavor it's a pass on all future visits. I simply don't get all the great reviews.. If this is the best in the area I'm moving back to NJ and opening a restaurant. read more

This is a good restaurant...though a couple things could be improved or prevent it from being great. I'll start with the good...the food. I went there for lunch with a co-worker on back to back days this week. Both times they catered to a request I had for a meal which is not on the lunch menu...Chicken Parmigiana. It was delicious both times and I had it with Penne one time and with Spaghetti another. Both were fantastic. The bread was pretty good, though very, very crispy. My co worker had an Italian sausage flat-bread pizza one time and a chicken plated special another. Nothing but praises from both of us. The couple of things that could be improved upon...parking. What a nightmare. It would even be smart for them to do a valet type situation so patrons didn't have to deal with that tiny parking lot. Finally, the only other complaint...which isn't much of one, is that the pricing on the lunch menu is pretty high...$13-$16 entrees. I understand the "up-scale" nature of the restaurant, but dinner pricing and dinner portions is a bit much for a "lunch" menu. Other than that, I enjoyed the experience. A bit picky on the extraneous factors, but the food was delicious. read more
