Osteria Trevi is a small restaurant that gives a great authentic meal. I have been there many times and it is always friendly, yummy and doesn't break the bank. BYO helps keep the costs down. My wife and I shared a fried calamari and it was very good. Our friends shared the meatball appetizer and enjoyed it. For mains my wife had the grilled salmon and said it was excellent. My buddy and I both had the baccalla special, which traditionally is dried salt cod that's reconstituted, but in this case it was fresh cod. Also very good. First time at restaurant. Excellent, attentive service. My lemon sole was done beautifully, plated with carrots, zucchini, and the tastiest mashed potatoes I've had in a long time. Tiramisu was okay, nothing special. My dinner companion ordered the cacio e pepe which he enjoyed but recognized the limitations of this dish. He was very happy with the Italian cheesecake, noting a light touch of lemon adding to the experience. Attractive interior, although the acoustics got very live as the place filled up. So disappointed with this place we got there and they didn't even greeted us. The server was already shaking his head and gave us a dirty look because We didn't have a reservation. Then the other server said ok wait let me see if we can do something about it , he didnt even look like he was trying to get us a table after 5 mins he told us they can't do anything and for us to leave. I have never felt so disrespected before. Thank God there was a place near by with better reviews and with awesome food . Went to Osteria Trevi for dinner last Saturday after seeing White Christmas at the Papermill Playhouse. Dinner was exceptional. We enjoyed the Pollo a la Trevi special and Eggplant Parmesan. My husband and I got lucky and were able to snag a last minute dinner reservation for two on a Friday evening. We shared a fresh antipasto salad and both enjoyed separate seafood pasta entrees. The small restaurant was packed and it was nice to see so many regular customers chatting with the host and servers. The menu offers a great variety and we noticed many ordered the cacio e pepe. Thanks to all the solid Yelp reviews and recommendation by my colleague, I chose Osteria Trevi for a business lunch with large party in Madison. I was pleasantly delighted with one of our best dining experiences. Owner and wait staff were helpful and accommodating with vegetarian requests from our guests. We had a large spread of appetizers and lunch entrees. bruschetta and eggplant Parm apps were remarkable. For the main entree i tried their classic pasta with marinara sauce and it was good. Homemade desserts of zabaglione and tiramisu were out of this world. Personal attention by the owner was appreciated very much by the group. It's rare to find a comfortable restaurant with attentive service and high quality food like you'll find here. If we are ever in Madison again, will definitely stop in and enjoy a meal at this place! We had been very good and frequent customers of trevi. That being said, there seems to be a large portion of their business coming down from Bergen County, where the owners had a previous successful restaurant. These people seem to garner all the attention of the staff. I wanted to take my wife out for our anniversary, and was lucky enough to get a reservation at trevi. We started by having the salad off the specials menu, which was very good but we had it split, to which there was a charge for. Entrees consisted of us both ordering from the specials. My wife had pasta with sausage, broccoli rabe, beans in a garlic sauce. It was delicious. I had the duck special over risotto. Very delicious as well. We skipped dessert. I was very excited to try Osteria Trevi, I had heard great things from a few different people. The service was great. We brought our toddler with us and the whole staff went out of their way to say hello to our little one and make him laugh. Everything inside was nice and fit perfectly for an Italian restaurant, we weren't rushed and everything came out well paced. Now, the food. We ordered burrata which came with an glazed eggplant and something else (not sure what) but it was great. Our second appetizer was the polpette. Now as an Italian myself I judge meatballs like I'm the Gordon Ramsay of meatballs. With that being said, they were great. Definitely a 3 meat mix, well seasoned, the tomato sauce was fresh and exactly what I enjoy. For dinner I ordered cacio e' pepe. It's such a simple dish but so easy to not do well. I'm a sucker for showmanship and watching them toss the pasta around in big cheese wheel, can't beat it. It also tastes fantastic. I added some red pepper also. My wife got mezza rigatoni with spicy sausage ragu (I can't recall the exact name). Another dish that was on the money. She likes her pasta more cooked then al dente but that's a preference not a complaint, next time we know to mention that. Before we left we booked a date to host a family party we're having later this year. So yes, we enjoyed the experience. 5 stars for sure read more

They are a real classic Italian restaurant vibe, starts with a very warm welcome , moves quickly to the sensory delights of the menu and ends with coffee and a mildly hefty bill. All is well worth it , I'd come back in less than a month and that says a lot because I like discovering new places I'd say it is more slightly upscale European or metro vibe. Dinner at Osteria Trevi on a Saturday night at 7PM. The Calamari was OK, average at best served in a paper lined metal basket about the size of a 10oz coffee cup with a small bowl of tomato sauce - small portion for $17. The cooking time was spot on, the flavor not so much, including the sprinkle of salt that dressed them. My wife had the tri color salad - a few greens (nice and fresh) with a light dressing that was hardly noticeable and garnished with three thin slices of cheese that were about one by three inches - if that for $13. The lobster ravioli in pink sauce were under cooked and virtually empty - one ravioli did have a tiny piece of lobster in it - the ravioli did not have any other filling such as squash or ricotta as they lay there flat in a flavorless pink sauce. I tried one them from my wife's dish and was disappointed by an empty shell of pasta and one of the worst empty ravioli I have ever sampled. - $29 I had the chicken campagnola with sausage which is three small slices of chicken breast in an opaque flavorless sauce (actually goo would be more accurate) that seemed like a mixture of water and cornstarch flavored with nothing. There were a few pieces of mushroom and a piece of cherry pepper. The dish came with sausage mixed in with the chicken. There were three tiny pieces of thin sausage that were the diameter of a nickel and worth almost as much. There were a couple of pieces of boiled carrot and squash under the chicken - which were cooked well but bland. Also, there was a small scoop of mashed potatoes that made me long for my high school cafeteria. $29. I wanted to like this place but at no point did my wife or I think any dish was good. We were in and out in just more than an hour as the food hit the table quickly and the entree followed my appetizer with barely a moment between the two. The bread they served was enjoyable and unfortunately the highlight of the dinner. Dessert was a no thank you after our dinner experience. I do not expect perfection - but do expect edible. Also worth noting is that the restaurant is located below a dance studio so that you can enjoy the sound of shoes pounding the ceiling above you. Its a noisy restaurant to start as the tables are at most a foot apart lined up against the wall. The bill plus tax and 20% gratuity was $115.00 Its BYOB and if you dare go bring a beverage - you will need it. My lowest standard for a restaurant is -- would I eat here it if it was free? NO I would not. read more
