My buddy brought me here for lunch, during my lunch hour. It was really nice inside, no one else was there eating. Didn't discourage me... my buddy said the place was really good. I only took away a star because we did tell them a few times I was on my lunch hour and everything kind of took a long time. WHICH I get when making fresh but even my cocktail took a very long time. And for no one else being there, I was hoping for a faster service Besides that! The bread was very yummy! We got an assortment. I had to stop myself because I did not want to get full. My friend ordered us a type of charcuterie board which was delicious . My friend ordered the bolognese and I got the chicken marsala. So saveoy and delicious. I never had polenta before and that was actually really good. I could have kept eating that haha. Everything was superb . The pricing was a but much for MY pocket but was glad to be treated out since they are down the street :-) Oh and the tiramisu was fantastic as well!!! Which we were able to get to go haha

I was a little apprehensive about coming to L'Allegria for my a birthday dinner with my family after reading some of the reviews. It is unfortunate that others didn't have a good experience here and I am hoping this review will help those who may be skeptical. The restaurant is quite and classy. If you're looking for that kind of experience, give this place a try! The service we had that night was five stars. Our waitress's name was Susan. She was FANTASTIC. I hope if any of you do go here, she can attend to your table. Absolutely excellent. The menu has so many options that sound delicious I really had a difficult time deciding what to get. Everything sounded so delicious. For appetizers we ordered the burrata, octopus special, and warm fig app. I would order all again! The apps were on the smaller side but really delicious. For salads I ordered the eggplant salad. Wow. Might have been the highlight of the night. As an entree I ordered the Bronzino. It was good but I think the apps and salad were better than my entree. However, they had no problem accommodating my requests, which I appreciated! Others at the table orders the salmon special that had sun-dried tomatoes, the zuppa, and the shrimp. Everyone was pleased. Dessert was a home run here. Definitely save room for that! They brought out a desser for my mom for her birthday which was a nice touch. I would definitely come back to L'Allegria for a nice date night or to celebrate a special occasion!

This was not what I had expected from a restaurant in Madison, NJ. Was looking forward to eating here for a late Father's Day lunch. It's average at best. The restaurant was empty and the service extremely slow! The octopus appetizer was good and tender. My pasta filled with sausage and broccoli rabe was too al dente'. This entree' comes with 4 huge portions. Dessert was good, but the fly flying around our table did not make it enjoyable. Will not be returning.

Lovely atmosphere and great food. Tremendous menu - so much to choose from. The staff is friendly and professional. Food is beautifully presented. We had our wedding luncheon here a few years ago and we will continue to return.

Def NOT what I asked for. That's freezer bag broccoli my friend, not broccoli rabe!

So disappointed with this place! After living in Madison a couple of years, and eating at almost every restaurant nearby, I was borderline giddy to finally try L'Allegria. My friend and I were the first party to arrive for dinner on a Friday night. She and I didn't mind the decor that makes The place feel like you've been time warped back to family dinner at a New Jersey Italian eatery in 1998. What I did mind, however, was the ultra lousy service. I asked that a dish be made with broccoli rabe and sauce.... then was presented with a bowl of spaghetti and regular (from a freezer bag) broccoli swimming in a greasy broth. Yeah, I have pictures to prove it. The server never once asked how our food was. When he finally came to clear the dishes away, and I told him that my food and prepared wrong, he argued that he gave me what I ordered. He didn't ask if we wanted desert, so when I asked if we could see a dessert menu, I was taken aback by the plastic replicas of desert glued to a tray, coated in dust. However, desert was delicious, and the two stars are strictly because of that. I'll meet you anytime you want at our Italian restaurant. Just not this one, please!

The inside is tacky. The Sea Bass was bland and the sauce was overly watery. 3 stars at best.

For $125/person, I had expected better tasting food though. The small appetizers (spinach salad, prosciutto, Parmesan, olives) may have been put together from a grocery store. For the pasta that we rolled out, the staff only added a plain tomato sauce. The side of vegetables was overcooked and mushy. Tiramisu was all right. We can blame the taste and texture of the pasta on ourselves, because we made it, but I had expected the rest of the food prepared by professionals to be better. No drinks were included -- Healthy Italia is BYOB. There was a nice intro video from the owner telling us about her history and philosophy. She said that she doesn't measure ingredients, and only mixes by feel. How does one teach a cooking class like this? If someone is taking a cooking class, they are less experienced and need precise measurements and instructions. Our flour and water were measured for us, so I guess they do measure something. We were never told the measurements, so didn't have any recipe or any specific learnings to take home. I enjoyed the social time with my group, and especially the long table set out for our group in true Italian fashion. It made us feel like a big cohesive family. However, for $125/person, I felt like we could have had a true learning experience elsewhere or had a much better Italian dinner at a restaurant with drinks. In fact, on the subsequent evening, a few individuals from our group went to a restaurant and ordered similar items served at this cooking class, and the food was remarkably better. And yes, it was less than $125/person with drinks.

For entrées, we had the pork chop Milanese, branzino, and lasagna, and all were excellent. The lasagna, though, deserves its own moment. It might be the best I've had in 47 years of life. The presentation is unique--served bubbling, gooey, and packed with flavor. There's some kind of X-factor going on that takes it to another level. I don't think I'll have a better lasagna anywhere. My wife is picky about meatballs and loved them, and I'm usually tough on octopus but thought it was great. Our server Luca was great--nice guy who took the time to make sure we were comfortable and enjoying everything. We also had the chance to meet the owner, who was warm, welcoming, and clearly passionate about the place. Can't wait to come back.

They've been at this location for five years, but their roots run much deeper in Morristown--and you can feel it in every detail. From the start, the atmosphere was welcoming and refined, and the energy in the room was lively without ever being loud. Families, friends, nice mix. The staff was phenomenal, and the owner himself made the rounds, greeting guests table to table like it was Sunday dinner at his own home. We kicked things off with meatballs, calamari, fried zucchini sticks, and fresh bread--simple, classic, and done exactly right. The olive oil for bread dipping had full cloves of roasted garlic, absolutely delicious. For dinner, we had a spread: * Eggplant Parmigiana - tender, rich, and perfectly layered, over a bed of pasta * Chicken Parmigiana - crisp, juicy, and deeply satisfying, our son's favorite * Spaghetti Carbonara - creamy, balanced, and not overly heavy * Penne alla Vodka - a comfort dish done with precision, just right. The authenticity stood out in every bite--you could tell this is a kitchen that cooks with pride and history. The portions were generous and we can't wait to eat the leftovers. The crowd was a great mix, and the overall vibe felt elevated without being pretentious.
