Wife and I split the short ribs ravioli appetizer special. It was a nice touch that it was served already split into two plates. Rich, decadent, upscale comfort food. My complaint is that the waiter should have noticed we had run out of bread and brought more so that we could enjoy dipping up every last bit of the delicious sauce. Main course: Wife had the Creole Jambalaya with Shrimp & Sea Scallops, I had the Fried Soft Shell crab special. I had never had soft shell crab, so I took this as an opportunity to have it from a restaurant I knew I could trust (let's face it; it is a slightly disgusting notion). I very much enjoyed the crab. Fried but not greasy. Seasoned enough to not taste just the deep fry - but not so much as to cover the taste of the crab. The Jambalaya was wonderful; the scallops cooked to perfection. It was difficult for us to decide on our entrees because so many items on the menu looked so good. But even given that, I would seriously consider having the Jambalaya again. Dessert: we split the banana bread pudding. It was really lovely. Not overly sweet - I'd say a little subdued. Rich banana flavor; very dense and with perfect level of moistness. Wife had a mocha latte and I had the caramel latte. This was the only disappointment. Both came out just barely hot enough to drink. I'm not saying I want "McDonald's hot" - how about in the ballpark of my mr coffe drip coffee maker. Too bad. My caramel latte was delicious; wife's mocha was , meh. Another serious plus for Tim Schafer's is that it is BYOB. And if you forget your bottle, have no fear. Liquor store is right next door. Park across the street at the hotel. You take your ticket to the hotel front desk and the validate. We will definitely return on special occasions. read more

Certainly a good place to dine but a bit over priced. Staff are very professional. Will go again.

Came here on a Saturday night at 7pm with no reservations. The place seemed fairly full. The staff told me there was a reservation at 8 so we could eat there if we finished within an hour. That was not a problem. The buffalo sausage wrapped with bacon is a must get appetizer. The strip steak was alright, nothing too special but the vegetables and potatoes on the side were worth it. The St Peters fish was buttery and tasty minus the side of jasmine rice. Service was not rushed at all and the staff was very attentive. Parking is a hassle if you don't know the area well but remember there are public parking lots in dark streets haha. read more

Definitely one of the nicer, fancier restaurant in the area. The attire that Yelp stated is dressy, but I find it kinda hard to dress up during the winter here. No worries, they'll still take you. The place looks cozy and casual itself so don't feel out of place. Besides their permanent menu, they have a chef's special menu so definitely browse through that before making a decision. Yea, it's gonna be tough because there are so many choices. For appetizer, we went with the sea scallops were good. It came with pieces of cucumber and seaweed over ponzu sauce. This was on their specials menu. From the permanent menu, the baked brie with nut crust and raspberry sauce definitely caught my attention. It came with raisin toast and it was amazing. Really enjoyed this appetizer. For the entree, I went with the covina fish filet with basil mashed potatoes and vegetables. The portion is huge compared to the size of the fish you get at fancy restaurants. I think we could've skipped one of those appetizers....but ultimately I'm glad I didn't. Every item ordered here was to par. Service was great and professional. Water was filled constantly. Don't forget that it's BYOB!!! If you forget your bottle(s)... there's a liquor store right next door. Parking is street parking but it's not hard finding a spot in the neighborhood. Super convenient to enjoy your meal here. I'll be back because unfortunately, my stomach wasn't big enough to try their desserts. :( read more

This place is definitely a winner! Came here with friends for a get together and I was just amazed with every single thing I was served. Calamari was excellent and crispy, not rubbery or overcooked at all. Had duck confit quesadillas that just seemed like something I could have every day of my life, being cheesy and savory and perfect. Then just as I thought it couldn't get any better, the entrees came out and they were all unique and delicious in their own way. Steak was tender and juicy, and fish was flaky and fresh. What I found almost as good if not better than the taste of everything was the presentation which was just amazing in every way, and made each dish a work of art. Will def. be back! read more

Tim Schafer's Cuisine was another Restaurant.com find. The menu, which included items such as "long island duckling" and "Pistachio crusted fish" sounded like the contemporary/new american food bf and I love to eat but have a hard time finding in NJ. Since we got the deal we figured, why not? With a bottle of Pinot in tow, we made the drive on a Thursday night. The restaurant is intimate and glowing with candlelit tables. The host promptly brought over a silver bucket to chill our wine. They served us two triangles of warm bread with parmesan on top. I appreciate it when restaurants warm the bread! This was also accompanied by olive oil (a tad bitter). Two more triangles of bread were quickly brought over when we finished the first two. I went with the 10 oz Hawaiian tuna steak with wasabi mashed potatoes. BF ordered the double cut pork chop stuffed with gouda, spinach, and mushrooms served with sweet potatoes. Sadly, since we are on a diet and a budget, I told my bf that we either split an appetizer or a dessert, not both! It was a tough call deciding between the crab cake and the mango bread pudding but we decided to go with the dessert. The entrees were beautifully presented; I wish my pictures were clearer. They definitely don't just slap things on a plate. I love raw tuna and I found this one to be very good. The wasabi mashed potatoes was a nice accompaniment to the fish as was the fresh vegetables. Bf enjoyed his pork chop and ate all his veggies (shocker) although he said the chop was a little overdone. Still, he said that it had a nice char flavor and he didn't leave a bit on his plate. The bread pudding also was beautifully presented and the smell of vanilla/custard made my mouth water as soon as it hit our table. The texture was a bit dense for bread pudding (like they squished the bread down in the pan) but I loved the flavor. It was not overbearingly sweet and didn't taste too fruity (my concern with the mango). Mmmm...the scoop of vanilla on top was perfect! It was a nice experience. There was only one waiter there for several tables but I didn't feel that the service suffered. It was a great restaurant to unwind with some wine and have some good food and conversation. read more

Another excellent meal. Their fish dishes are excellent. I had the Monk Fish last night and it was cooked perfectly with a nice mix of fresh grilled vegetables. We shared a buffalo sausage appetizer, that I thought was bland. Probably should have expected that for such a lean meat. The name will be changing in June to Freddy's Kitchen. He is the chef and I think a very good one. He always comes out and wants to know what you had and your opinion. Very good dining and a bonus that it is a BYOB. Relaxed atmosphere and sophisticated cooking. read more

Less than stellar. Seafood pasta special that was loaded with seafood but the lobster tail was over cooked. The seasoning was missing. I did not like the pairing with the black parpadelle pasta. I think the food pairings could be better. read more

Went to Chef Fredy's with a party of 4 recommended by one of the party who had dined there before. It was a Thursday night with a reservation for 7:15. We were immediately greeted, and offered a table in the 'front' with a view of the street, or in the 'back' where it was mostly empty. The front had plenty of seating available, but we chose the back. The waiter was attentive, and even brought an ice bucket for our BYOB. The menu is two pages, one being appetizers and the other entrees, but there was a generous list of specials included. The waiter also listed some off-menu apps and entrees. My only 'complaint' is that he should slow down and enunciate better so we can hear due to his accent. I chose the scallop appetizer. I expected 2 or maybe 3 scallops. I got 4 perfectly seared, cut with a fork scallops with 2 sauces, one of which was horseradish and I wish there was a tiny bit more. The other 2 decided on the tuna app (one of our party didn't get an app), and all of our plates were cleaned. For the entrée it was one jambalaya, 2 salmon, and I chose duck. I haven't had duck before, but watching enough cooking shows I wanted to see what it was like. I wasn't disappointed. The duck was cooked perfect medium with crispy skin - just the way I hear it should be. The other nice surprise was the pineapple rice. It was an unexpected flavor for rice but very tasty. Again all plates were cleaned. Desserts were 2 crème brulees, a key lime pie, and a gelato. The irish cream gelato on the crème brulee was so good. Overall, while a bit pricy, we were delivered a quality meal that was satisfying, and had excellent service. read more

Good restaurant for NJ if you want a romantic night out. Location: This restaurant is conveniently next to a liquor store. If you forgot your wine or want to match it to what you order, just pop over and get some. It's also in downtown Morristown. Parking: street parking. During Valentines day, the police came by and put temporary "no parking signs" and ticketed everybody on that block. Even some of the employees at Tim Schafer's were ticketed. Sucks. If the police are going to do that, they ought to give people a few hours to notice that their car needs to be moved before handing out tickets. Food: risotto had strong hints of mushroom! win. Hubby's fish wasn't as good. Service: excellent - we came 30 min before our reservation and were seated anyways. read more

Overall great dining experience. The ambience and eclectic menu were great, service impeccable and glad to see that even with a new name, this restaurant is still delivering it's original top notch service. And the $15 for $30 deal is very cool. read more

The dishes are well prepared, beautifully presented and delicious (four & half stars). I had the lobster and shrimp special was perfectly prepared (right temperature and juicy). Our table of three had no less than 2-3 people, stop by and offer bread, water, wine pour during our hour and half dinner. The service is what makes this restaurant a full five stars. read more

Great environment- food is delicious and you get enough for what you pay. Recommended this restaurant 100%

What can I say? Manhattan prices, large portion but fail in taste for the most part. I booked a dinner for six with clients and business friends since the restaurant is located so closely to the business area. We had the regular menu and I anticipated the food from the positive reviews. I was wrong. It was restaurant setting, good presentation, but almost diner food. Presentation was not bad but nothing to write home about. Three of us had the $36 steak, medium. For $36 and not in NYC, I would expect a nice piece of meat, tender, and done such that extra seasoning is optional. The meat was chewy, looking like the chef got it on discount. The mash potatoes was nice, that was all while the side veggies was meh. I asking the my dinner guests about their orders and they mumbled politely "good". Being a foodie and having eaten all over the world..when something is yummy, those comments are loud and people tend withhold all conversation for a bit focusing only on the food. The only saving grace was the BYOB policy since they don't provide the wine; I went next door, pick 3 bottles of reds (liquor store also have no wine knowledge) and was able to enjoy the night. Needless to say, I was disappointed. I have had great food, a paella place in Morristown so nothing against the town, just everything against meh food with a hefty price. Price should speak for the level of food and this place does not. read more

The food is great and it's BYO, of course I am going to rate this spot highly. The only reason I knock it one star is because I don't think it's a must visit. However, the more I think about it the more I realize that this place could be five stars, but I think I need to be here again in order to decide that. It is still pretty expensive, but having it be BYO makes it so much nicer and affordable. The food is great and I liked everything I tasted. The ravioli starters are delicious and you should order one of them. The other dishes that stood out were the lamb special and the steak. Both were tasty and the lamb feel off the bone with the slightest touch of my fork. It was expertly cooked/prepared/presented. The only other negative I have is that there seem to be so many hosts that, in a way, they take up more space than they need to be useful. However, they are all nice and very helpful. The restaurant is great and if I am out for dinner in Morristown again then I will be going to Chef Freddy's. I would recommend this to anyone. Note that for your wine/drink there is a store right next door where you can get this beforehand and parking can be difficult in this area. One in this area needs to try Chef Freddy's. read more

Chef Fredy's Table - Lamb Special. Delicious - New American Near Me - Morristown, New Jersey

Chef Fredy's Table locates crossing the street from my most favorite movie theater in the world AMC 10, and Hyatt hotel. You can park in the hotel garage. There is no lunch here on weekend. Dishes were well plated, which gives you a nice visual effect. My experience is that if the food are on top of each other, it is an expensive place. This role applied here too. Lunch is about $20~30 a person, and dinner of two will easily be over $100. It is interesting to have a $10 plating charge if you want to split any entree. It is definitely one of the high end place in Morristown. read more

Went here for dinner with my boyfriend the other night and it's a cute little place and the service is pretty good but the food was nothing special. The presentation of the food and how it's plated is lovely but the taste is subpar. The bread and olive oil they serve is very good... We ordered the lobster ravioli for an appetizer - which was actually very delicious. He got seared tuna and I ordered salmon... Both pieces of fish were over cooked. His tuna was barely red in the middle and my salmon was dry and flavorless, but the rice and vegetables were delicious. I will say that the serving portions are reasonable and pretty big so you get your money's worth.. We skipped on the dessert but the people around us that did order it seemed to enjoy it... Overall this place is alright, not WOW but not awful. read more

Valentine's Day can be crazy in restaurants. Chef Freddy's was consistently very busy but the staff managed the crowd with grace under pressure. No one was rushed and the waitstaff were excellent. And the food .... absolutely delicious! I had the tuna tartare and it was fabulous! I then followed with the veal osso bucco with mushroom risotto and vegetables which were done perfectly. They weren't overdone and were still crispy. Dessert was homemade key lime pie with fresh meringue on top. Excellent. My husband had the octopus appetizer and the three seafood dinner and both were also wonderful. Thanks to Chef Freddy's for a lovely Valentine's dinner! read more

Food is spectacular. The owner and his staff are very kind and attentive. New outdoor seating area is a great date night area. Prices are a bit high but very similar to other prices in Morristown. read more

Chef Freddy's has been on my radar for a couple years, but I went tonight for the first time. Nothing seemed to really make sense here; it appeared fancy, but had loud dance music playing. The food selection all sounded delicious, but I was a bit disappointed with my meal. It was drenched in oil and wine, and tasted strongly of chicken broth. The fresh pasta was delicious! One weird thing was the manager (I think) kept coming up to the table and making judgements about our personal lives to try to start conversation. At another place, this may have been endearing, but it all felt a bit odd here. If you want a delicious meal in Morristown, this certainly wasn't the worst, but there are better places to go! read more

Ate there for the second time last night and both times the food and service were excellent. It is a little pricey but they have a prix fixe menu and it's byo which can help cut down the cost. The dishes are all unique and the ones I've tried have been delicious. The calamari is better than most I've tried - it is prepared as a dish rather than the typical fried squid with marinara. The alligator was also a great starter that you'd be hard pressed to find up north. For dinner the filet mignon was cooked to perfection and the st peters fish was one of the tastiest cooked fish dishes that I've ever had. This is probably the best restaurant in Morristown and I wouldnt hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking to try a different meal. read more

Very friendly staff, well portioned plates, and very tasty food.. We shared the Brie and duck quesadilla appetizers, which were both delicious. Thursday evening, I went on a date and had dinner. Although the food was delicious, upon the end of the night, when leaving the restaurant, I went to the bathroom and on my way back to the table- I was aggressively groped by our waiter, Juan. I was in town for work and I came here for lunch with a co-worker. We decided to share the crab cake (the thing was massive) and we each ordered the roasted pear and endive salad. First off just FYI this restaurant is BYOB. We didn't know that when we arrived and being in town for work we weren't going to buy a whole bottle of wine for two people for lunch. But I actually LOVE BYOB restaurants, especially for dinner, and I'd definitely return for dinner with a bottle or two. Anyway the crab cake was massive (perfect for sharing) and delicious. I probably could have eaten ten of them! The salad though stole the show. Man! The presentation was beautiful and the flavors was FANTASTIC! I actually felt sad that we weren't going to eat dinner there because i'd have loved to sample more! read more

Our favorite restaurant in Morristown. Always great food and great service. They love serving good food.

Last night was my first visit to Tim Schafer's and it could not have been better. My girlfriend took my out for my birthday and picked a great place. We ordered the calamari and pear salads to start. I've never had calamari like this before and it blew me away. The salad was great and my entree (16oz Steak) was cooked to perfection. My girlfriend ordered the jambalaya and loved it. The portions were huge and came out in a timely fashion. Girardo, our host, was very friendly and made great recommendations. We ordered the vanilla chocolate cake for dessert and it was incredible. I would go as far as to say it was the best dessert I've ever had at a restaurant. I will definitely go back again and again! read more

Thoroughly enjoyed my birthday dinner here. The server was gracious and prompt. The food rocked. And because it is BYOB, I was able to enjoy a bottle of really good wine without breaking the bank.
