Cheesetella is comparable to Uncle Tetsu in terms of fluffy Asian cheesecakes with subtle flavors. From my experience, Cheesetella somehow balances their cheesecake to have fluffiness with moisture and density. The cheese flavor is still subtle however is more apparent than that of Uncle Tetsu when first served. The shop is fairly colorful and cozy in size, better to order and eat elsewhere. This is so delicious: it is a little unassuming in this quiet plaza but its a great find for a yummy airy treat. For those who haven't had Japanese cheesecake, it is unlike traditional cheesecake: it isn't heavy on the cheese and isn't a heavy dessert. I think the texture is more like an angel food cake: I actually had it for breakfast and it was really good with tea. It was my first time there, so I opted for the traditional cake without any special cream or flavors, and would recommend the traditional cake for those who never tried this before just to have a baseline to start with. The original cheesetella is so spongey and fluffy. The flavor is very subtle and not very sweet which is typical of Korean desserts. I enjoyed the texture of the cake too. This was my first time ordering from Cheesetella, where I placed an order 4 days in advance for pick up on Thanksgiving. I had placed an order for the matchatella, creamtella, and the ube cheesecake. I received a call the morning of pickup indicating that they only sell the machatella on Saturday and Sunday, even though I already paid for it. This was such a big disappointment since my daughter loves matcha and no one informed me until it was too late. I would have figured out an alternative elsewhere to satisfy my daughter's craving. In any event, I was left to just select a different item, but they didn't offer anything for the inconvenience. I should add I had to wait awhile for the replacement, which I was trying to avoid which is why I ordered in advance. This is a Korean owned cheesecake/castella shop located in the Harvard Place Shopping Center at the corner of Harvard Avenue and Main Street. Corner Bakery is visible at that corner. Cheesetella is nestled on the left side when facing Ralphs. Let me first say that this Asian dessert is not for everyone. They are small moist spongy cakes with subtle cheesecake flavor. My kids and I like them, but somewhat bland for my hubs who is used to heavy flavors like at, for example, Marie Callender's and Cheesecake Factory cheesecakes. I've tried the original and ube cheesecakes ($16ea), as well as the original castella ($11.25?), creamtella ($13) and chocotella ($12). I liked them all, but if anything, preferred the ube cheesecake, creamtella and chocotella over the originals. The cheesecakes were soft and moist yet light and fluffy. Similar still slightly different than the Japanese fluffy cheesecakes, but all yummy nonetheless. The creamtella has a layer of whipped cream in the middle, and the chocotella has chocolate chips that sink to the bottom when baked so it's like a layer of chocolate. They opened just a few years ago, but between then and now, I see a big difference in size and even in the amount of cream/chocolate chips in the castellas, which is sad (not to mention price hike, too). The cheesecakes are about 6 inches in diameter, but they seem smaller now perhaps because they either made them shorter in height? The castellas also shrank in size. It used to be a nice big size in the beginning, about 8x6-ish, but now it's noticeably smaller than that. The creamtella used to have an abundance of cream, but now doesn't even cover ever corner. The amount of chocolate chips in the chocotella were heavy enough to bake into a weighted layer of chocolate, but now that layer isn't as dense as it used to be. The baked finish isn't as smooth as before either, lots of cracks and uneven surfaces (see pics). Regardless, they still taste good, and I do try to support small businesses. They are pretty empty during the weekdays (I can't keep eating cheesecake and castellas every day though), and on top of the that, there's inflation and expensive Irvine leases so hopefully they can survive these hard times. read more

I've been craving cheesecake similar to uncle tetsu's since I moved back to Orange County. & I was so happy when I found out something similar opened up in Irvine. I ordered the cheesecake earlier this week, and cheesetella makes it well. I came back again today for another one and also ordered the creamtella and cheesetella just to try for fun. #1 fave is the soufflé cheesecake. It Definitely satisfied my cravings for uncle tetu's. The cheesecake is not too sweet, not too rich. Unlike American cheesecakes, Asian desserts, like, this soufflé cheesecake are not overly sweet... the cake is airy, fluffy, soft and oh so delicious. It's a must try. The cheesetella is good, but I'm not sure I'd order it again as I didn't love it. & I currently have the creamtella in my refrigerator to try tomorrow (looking forward as I've heard good things) The service staff is very quick too. I didn't see many reviews for the greenteatella so I ordered it lol. It's definitely not very appetizing as it was two rectangle puke brown green castella cakes with lighter green cream in the middle. However, it was very fluffy, like thicker angel cake, and the cream wasn't sweet at all. Very light. It didn't really taste like green tea either but I felt slightly healthier eating it vs my friend who got the creamtella lol. I think they should try making the green tea flavor stronger and maybe shaping it like the ube one. It's not bad for the price though and I'd say tastier when cold. Like the other reviewers said, it's definitely a grab and go cake store with everything already baked so you get the cake as you pay. I didn't order anything from here but it's my first time experiencing their product and it was incredible. I was on lunch break when they were introducing their cheese cake flavors; I was interested in their original flavor but unfortunately they didn't have any samples available. My boss had called in the middle of the conversation and I had to rush out. The owner of this bakery quickly rushed to cut me a huge portion of their freshly baked and cooled OG cheesecake and placed it in my hand and rushed me out to make sure I made it to my work on time. My friend told me how cheesetella was infinitely better than uncle tetsu so I definitely had to check it out when I was in the area. The castella is kind of like a spongecake whereas the cheesecake is a Japanese style cheesecake. I got the chocolate castella and the original cheesecake and both were very dry. Wandered into this place, intrigued by the name. We were thinking it was some sort of cheesesteak+Nutella abomination restaurant but was pleasantly surprised to discover it's a castella bakery! We walked in, finding the place super clean and cutely decorated in bright yellow and with a delightful sweet eggy fragrance in the air. It's fresh Asian sponge cakes! We chatted a bit with the owner who said they've been open about three weeks. We were so lucky to come across this place. Best of luck to them! We bought a cheesecake and sat at a table immediately outside and dug right in. Delicious! Not too sweet and very airy in texture. The creaminess of cream cheese without any of the heaviness of traditional American cheesecake. A delicious, convenient discovery for the neighborhood. Great local spot for some Japanese style cheesecake and castellas. I find these cakes the perfect balance of sweetness as they are not overly decadent. I love how light the actual cake part is. My favorite is definitely the ube cheesecake or the chocolate castella. These are always crowd pleasers when I bring them to parties as they are light and easy to eat so I'd definitely recommend this! Outrageously poor business practiced at this location. My dad went there at 5pm on Saturday. One customer was in front of him. The customer had an issue, and it took 15 minutes to resolve. Finally it was my dad's turn to order, and he was told everything was sold out. You DO NOT make a customer wait 15 minutes when you have nothing to offer, especially when the customer is 85 YEARS OLD. Why didn't any employee tell him everything was sold out as soon as he walked in? Why didn't they just close the store when they had nothing left? Did anyone working had a brain to think?
