Food is always delicious but lately they have a problem with dirty booths. It's pretty bad when you find last nights crumbs and dried up cheese on the seats. I understand it's busy but we show up a half hour after they open for business so it's twice we had to ask for a wet cloth and dry to clean it off. The booths are deep and hard to get back in there but it's no excuse. Manager should sit in each booth before opening the doors. Food is always good that's why I'm fair with 2 stars read more

Not a day goes by that I do not regret coming here to eat a Monte Cristo. Not that it was bad. More that it was a ham-flavored funnel cake with raspberry jam for dipping. With that in mind, you are not coming to Cheddar's for healthy dining. The menu is full of things you normally see at every other neighborhood grill, but the decor seems a bit nicer. I don't remember seeing any TVs. The booths are seriously huge...I felt small in them at 6', 300lbs. Judging from the food we ate, any regular of this place likely needs that extra room. Basically, just order smart and you probably won't regret coming here. The prices are flat out fantastic. I thought their fries were awful, but things like that are different by person. We went on the second night they were open, and besides being a nervous talker, our server was excellent. If I had to choose any restaurant that shares a parking lot with Oak Park Mall to eat at, this would be it. read more

Finally got that fruit tea I'd been wanting. Way too sweet. Couldn't even finish the first glass let alone get refills. (I got the mango) Went for lunch and got the half club sandwich, salad and soup combo they offer as a special (you can pick two items or three - the third item was less than a dollar more so I went with it). The soup choice was potato or tortilla. I went with tortilla -- bad choice. It was like eating salsa with a spoon. It had little gristley bits of chicken in it. The salad came directly out of the fridge. The bowl and the salad were really cold...I had to ask for the croissant ... the waiter said it was because they were making fresh ones but when I got it, it was not fresh out of the oven... it wasn't even warm enough to melt the honey butter. The sandwich was ok but not big enough to be considered half a sandwich. The mall entrance was closed because they are repaving all around the restaurant and I had to park at On the Border and walk over but the place was STILL packed. The food quality isn't that great. Chain restaurants are not my "thing." Nine out of ten times, I would prefer a grilled cheese at home, rather than eat in a cookie-cutter, mood music-playing chain, attempting to up-sell on cheddar poppers and overpriced drinks....this being said, I actually like Cheddar's. I was introduced to this in Dallas Texas serval years ago and was pleased when one moved into the KC area. Yes, they have the poor music and the phoned-in decor (not as badly as some though with their dark wood and dimmer lights, this is the least egregious of the chain restaurants, in my opinion), but they also have great prices, great entree salads, and a monte cristo. A Monte Cristo, what's so special about that you might ask. I will tell you....oozy cheese, dipped in sweet batter and fried, served with raspberry jam. This sandwich is fluffy and light and all that is good in a fried sandwich. I also appreciate the variety of sides that are offer, something for most people, ranging from side salad and steamed veggies to a decadent cheese and broccoli casserole. Food gets an A! Service...EPIC fail. Short list: - Dirty table (large smears of gravy perhaps.....gross) - 10 minutes before server comes over - Gross server (sweaty, kinda dirty.... You're handling my food, dude!) - Long wait for just waters (like 10 minutes after the server left) - Server sloshed sticky cocktail all over table, didn't clean it up - Appetizer served with meal WITH dirty dishes (honestly, dude, get your $@&# together) - Dressing on salad when I asked for none - Server confused by basic check splitting principles (.....seriously?.....) Ok, fine, I'll admit it....I hated our server. The food however.... I had never been to a Cheddar's before and have nothing to say but good things about the food. We started with a Pain Killer that was super sweet but a really good drink (odd that they put a disclaimer of limit 2 per customer because I honestly could have had four and been fine). My friend, her daughter and I split the edamame appetizer (a little overcooked) which I thought was a weird option given the overall theme of the menu, but, hey, keeping it healthy....kudos to ya (also....is anyone else surprised by the lack of cheese on their menu??? With a name like Cheddar's, you expect cheese, right? Just me??). My glazed chicken was surprisingly well cooked considering the impression I got from our stellar service up until that point. Actually, the chicken was cooked REALLY well... dare I say 'perfectly.' We topped off with the croissant bread pudding which was a little on the dry side, but aside from the obnoxious helping of whipped cream on top, was delicious. No raisins and little melty bits of chocolate....so good. Overall, will definitely return for the food and prices (ate and drank like a king for $30...not bad), but it'll be another location because the service at this one was embarassing. read more

Cheddars is a good place to go for a casual meal, especially if your group has a range of cravings or tastes. They have a diverse menu that can please a variety of tastebuds. Prices are great too, so you won't go bankrupt taking your family to dinner or if you want to treat someone to a decent meal. Cheddars used to be awesome. They are not awesome now, but they are still good. It depends on your waiter and who else is working that night. We used to eat here almost weekly and now only go every few months because it's not uncommon for them to get your order wrong or to send you something that they know is prepared incorrectly to see if you send it back or not. I wasn't starving last night so I just got a bowl of tortilla soup. Recently, I have been addicted to tortilla soup and haven't tried theirs. It was COLD. Not tepid, not lukewarm...COLD. The cheese on top was cold too and stayed that way. The texture was weird. Actually, I think they take a jar of Pace Picante sauce and throw in a whole canned tomato and sprinkle cheese and tortillas on top. There was one tiny piece of chicken in the whole BOWL of soup. Of course, the waiter had no interest in how the food was because he never came to check back on us. Finally, he decided he wanted to get paid so came by with the check. We informed him that we wanted to order dessert. I had been dreaming about their chocolate chip cookie skillet sundae...another reason I ordered light. We ordered two. There were 3 of us and a baby...we explained we'd share. About 15 minutes later, he brought out one sundae and 3 spoons. We figured he didn't hear us order 2 so we just shared that one. It was good. It wasn't awesome, but it was certainly good. After we ate that and talked for about 10 minutes later, a waitress came to our table and exclaimed "I have your sundae!" and got ready to give us the second sundae. Well, we refused it since 1. We'd ordered it about 30 minutes previously. 2. We'd already finished the one and were ready to leave. If they'd told us they were running behind on the 1st one... but still why would they serve two desserts so far apart. It's just crazy. Anyway, it reinforces why they have lost a bunch of our business. I know they still stay very busy here and it obviously hasn't hurt them too much yet, but I think it will eventually. read more

My waiter, whose name was Lukas, was unwelcoming, and had an attitude of laziness. Although the restaurant was nearly empty, he never asked if I needed anything, nor did he offer to refill my drink. I overheard him saying to another waitperson that he "had finally gotten some sleep . . ." This isn't my concern, as a patron. Also he pointed to the computer app on the table, and condescending asked if I knew how to use it, instead of presenting me with my bill. Sad to write this as Cheddars used to be my absolute favorite restaurant.. Don't waste your time here anymore. They're operating out of the small north side of the building, about 12 tables, so it's around a 30 minute wait. There were at least 4 servers tonight, and 3 tables a server is pretty easy to manage. Unfortunately, that was not true for the current serving staff. We waited on our meal for about 40 minutes, our server only checked on us one time, we never received our salad (which for some reason the server told me I couldn't add onions to "because the kitchen staff doesn't speak english"), and we didn't receive our cheese curds. When asked what happened to the curds, our server said "Oh! they fell on the floor, do you still want some?" The food came out cold, the cheese was in one coagulated-but-not-at-all-melted mess in my cold potatoes. my medium rare steak was medium well(probably from just sitting for a while).. When confronted about this, he argued that part of the order was never even placed(...?!?!) and then the server walked away and said he would be back.. he did not come back. we waved him down and he continued to ignore us. My boyfriend left to get a manager or anyone who could help, and finally we were able to just leave without having to pay. It was unfortunate that we had to go search out management on our own. This was handled completely wrong and we will be staying away as long as the company continues going downhill so fast. read more

Had a late lunch here the other day with a friend who uses a very large walker. The young guy seating us was very accommodating and sat us at a table with room for the walker. We were still a little crowded so he moved some tables around till we were comfortable. I was a little leery eating here as I prefer to avoid chain restaurants and their selection of super high calorie junk food. Cheddar's has some options however, and we both ordered a grilled fish entree that was delicious! My friend is a bit of a picky eater and was disappointed that one of the sides, a broccoli casserole, had onions in it (after asking about it), and she seemed to not really like the amount of spices on the fish, so she just scraped it off. I thought it was great though and would order this again. We ordered another meal to go, and it was promptly brought with the check. Yum! Yum! Yum! I love Cheddar's, it's always busy and it's easy to taste why! I have been here several times now and have never had a bad meal two of us ate, got full for less than $20!! That was with salads added! They have a broad menu including cheap drinks & cheap appetizers. Lots of comfort foods including chicken fried steak, pot pie, meat loaf, catfish, salads & more. I went to Cheddar's with my cousins for Sunday lunch, a big mistake. The place was jammed pack and the wait was dreadfully long. Though we were already seated, we had to wait 30 more minutes before someone actually noticed us. And when a server finally did acknowledge us, she was rude and impatient when taking our order, totally disappointing after the long wait. As for the menu, it had various types of foods and drinks to accommodate a wide range of taste buds. My cousins and I opted for the croissant as our appetizer. Though they only gave us 4 croissants for 4 people, the croissants are to die for! They were so soft, warm, sweet, buttery and had a slight chewiness in the inside that it made this dish perfect! In a matter of no time the appetizer got devoured and I ordered the Louisiana Pasta. Once again, the wait was ridiculously long and the staffs were anything but attentive. After the long wait, I finally got to taste my food. Cheddar's provided us with huge portions but the taste didn't allow me to eat as much. The pasta was oily and waaayyyy too salty! The chicken tasted like it has been submerged in salt for days! Due to the extreme saltiness I couldn't continue to eat since the pasta didn't match my pallet nor did I want high cholesterol. To conclude, my cousins and I spent 3 hours at Cheddar's and 3/4 of our time consisted of waiting. The service was bad and the food was over seasoned. I think there is something to be said about this restaurant when they say they are a scratch kitchen. Their service is so slow that I actually believe them. It is as if they raised a pig to maturity, slaughtered it, seasoned, and then cooked it; the process took that long. We ended up waiting over an hour and 30 minutes for our food to arrive. Overall we were in the restaurant for 3 hours!!! The service was so bad that I thought about not leaving a review becuase of all the other terrible experiences other people have had. Terrible...ants...ants...ants...ouch We came here for my mom's birthday. She had gone to one in Wichita. My husband and I had never been. We were seated on the SE side of the restaurant in a large booth to fit our party of 6. When seated our server confessed she had only been there 5 days. Her grasp of the menu reflected that. After we'd gotten our soft drinks, but still waiting on the adult beverage, I felt a bite on my foot. I looked down and had 2 ants on my foot and one crawling up my leg. I brushed them off. 2 min later more bites, several more ants. I told my husband who went to get someone. I set my foot down and within one minute my foot had 6 more ants on it. We stood up, and by that time a manager had come to move us. We were moved to another, more interior, table. It had a circular support creating a design flaw where you couldn't put any pressure on the table or the whole thing would tip, spilling drinks. Difficult to manage with our 3 kids. We were told we would have a new server now that we moved tables. We got our food. My mom got a completely wrong entree, I didn't get the correct salad dressing, my husband's chicken was dangerously undercooked. He didnt eat. And no one ever questioned why his food went uneaten. We were then told we had the original server. We waited for drink refills, or another margarita, by that time I needed it. We waited. Now apparently serverless, eventually someone gave us a check. No accommodations were made on the check at all. What a terrible experience. And someone should look at that ant issue. We will never go back. read more

I just want to say that the customer service that we got was absolutely spectacular. Any questions asked we're always answered with a smile and we never felt like we were upsetting our waitress. Gabrielle K. was our waitress and she should be commended for the great customer service that she gave us. She made us feel warm and welcome and free to ask for help whenever we needed. This is probably one of my favorite steakhouse in town. If you're going to splurge, this place to do it. The service was prompt but gruf. Though I do agree that it's part of the rustic steakhouse feel. Our way to Tom was able to give us some great guidance and was especially helpful for pairing drinks for us. Everything you've heard is 100% true then some! Obviously the steak is the main event, and every time I go it's top-notch juicy and perfectly cooked. Do not skip dessert. I always have the painkiller because it's reasonable and it taste good. Ticket times seemed long and the service was a bit slow. This location has a weird identity crisis...it feels like Olive Garden and Cracker Barrell had a baby. There was about 20 minute wait last Friday. The service was great and speedy. The server was cordial and got our order correct. We ordered onion rings as appetizers. My husband and I arrived just before 5 pm to beat the rush. We waited about 10 minutes for our table even though there were many tables and booths available. We requested a booth because the seats would be padded and soft, I had recent back surgery and couldn't do hard seats. The hostess had ONE table that she would let us set at. I was not padded or soft anywhere. After about 20 minutes my back started spasms. We told the hostess and she would not move us. Then when our waitress was about to take our order her "trainee" came over and took her order book out of her apron so she had nothing to write down our order. Before I comment on the food and service, I feel compelled to comment on the tableware utensils. My wife and I met a good friend for lunch at Cheddar's. It has been quite some time since we last dine at this location. When our salad arrived, I unwrapped my dining utensils inside the paper napkin. The fork was covered with dry crusty food. I then got up and picked up another set of napkin-wrapped utensils from the bar seating area. You got it...it was also dirty. I finally saw our server and asked for a spoon (hoping she would check it before bringing it to our table). The spoon was clean. The food was fine, but the staff really need to double check the utensils before wrapping them in napkins. I'm probably not the only diner who won't give a restaurant another try after opening dirty wrapped utensils. Sorry, but I expect better after spending $45 + tip on lunch for 3. read more
