For a chain restaurant, they've got a pretty funky menu with a little bit of something for everyone. The decor is nice and casual and I've had an entertaining experience each time I go. Best of all, they have fresh croissants ( I try to stay away but 1 order always makes it to the table) ! Good food! Everything I have had at Cheddar's so far has been delicious. Went to dinner here on 7/20/15 and restaurant was well packed, so I anticipated a bit of wait time for my orders. Appetizers took over 20 minutes to come out. I was upset with the wait time, but as the heaping mountain of onion rings came out I quickly got over being upset. The manager came over and apologized for the wait time and told us she was taking the appetizers off the bill. Our orders arrived shortly after and was delicious. I would have given a rating of four stars, but the delicious food and friendly staff makes for nothing less than five stars. read more

This place is amazing! To start, the ambiance and atmosphere is very relaxing and I love the ceiling fans and the aquarium with all the cool looking fish. The salads are so crisp and fresh and the sliced cherry tomatoes that are in it are especially crisp; no mushiness in this salad at all! I ordered a Wisconsin cheese bites appetizer and they came out hot crisp and fresh and were extremely satisfying. The portion was huge, so k had to take some home. Lastly, the entrees that were selected - the 12oz ribeye and a full rack of baby back ribs! They only thing that could have possibly been more appealing than the price of these entrees was the taste! They were so good, I probably would still get the ribeye even if the price doubled. It wasn't fatty at all, very moist and above all, delicious. I brought my sister and three nieces to Cheddars today. We arrived as they opened at 11. We waited 15 minutes to be seated then 20 minutes for our waitress to even acknowledge us. After we ordered it took over 30 minutes to get our food! Refills on drinks were long as well. When the food arrived my sister got her soup then another 10 minutes to get her half of sandwich. I ordered half sandwich (which I got) loaded baked potato which was unedable not cooked all the way hard as a rock got another it was the same way. I bragged about how great this place was my niece said I jinx it! My 9 yr old niece got Mac n cheese it had a burned top! Not sure I will go back! read more

I hate to give this place two stars, but something really seems off about Cheddar's. I went just a few weeks ago. I am unsure if they have changed management or what, but the food and the service just seemed really subpar. The prices are still reasonable and their drinks are awesome. Overall, I just was not impressed. Another downer for me was the crowds but only because it's technically on Oak Park Mall's campus. People get hungry after shopping. I had the grilled salmon and rice with broccoli casserole for the side. It was decent but I felt like I didn't need to go home and rave about it. The food could have been hotter and the fans blowing down on us really irritated me. Plus, they gave my boyfriend an incomplete order and forgot condiments he asked for. The waitress never returned with what we asked for. Honestly, I have decided that Cheddar's is a good place to grab drinks and an appetizer. The best time to go is right when they open or on a Sunday after the church crowd. Friday and Saturday nights are a no-go. I will be sticking to Houlihan's. A refill was brought by another server and it was the wrong drink After receiving our check I told the server about my concerns of him not being accurate with items he brought to us, him not providing refills and the food being cold. He hunched his shoulders and asked us if we were ready to "cash out" I asked for a manager who appeared about 10 minutes later. Didn't get his name but he was Caucasian and had a huge beard. We usually love cheddars have not been in a while because of the wait times. Today I went to sit down and the chair felt nasty. The waitress came up behind me and nearly scared me to death. She was a hot mess. Hair hanging in her face and she was loud and abrasive. She brought 2 of our 4 drinks and then Went to wait on a table that was sat well after us. She finally brought the other drinks but as she walked by the table she was digging in her ear. I asked for a manger who came up the same time she came to take our order. I went in today for a quick lunch around 3pm. I sat at the empty bar. I never saw a server, bartender, or manager stop by... the only thing I saw was a Mc Donald's cup behind the bar. The other guests at the tables around me just kept looking at me. Even they noticed I was not served. I decided after waiting for 5-10 mins with no sight of anyone to head to Mc Donald's since the advertisement was in my face. Let me start by saying that I absolutely love Cheddars in general, but this location completely threw me. I just moved from Houston where the service is always great. I went to this location with my cousin on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at 1:30 in the afternoon. When we arrived the parking lot had only 4 cars. When we went inside, Joe, the manager with no greeting at all says "it's a 15 to 20 minute wait". I looked around and the restaurant was practically empty, so I asked if we could sit in the bar area, to which he replied "no". I felt this was a little odd, but I know things are different due to COVID. My cousin and I went outside debating if we should stay or go. At this point nobody leaves the restaurant, but two couples walk in and get immediately seated. Now I'm not one to jump straight to the race card, and I don't think I'm typically discriminated against, but I found this EXTREMELY odd being African American and the two other couples being White. After seating the two other couples, Joe comes out and says" I guess you both can sit at the bar high top, I'll let my bartender know". Now, I'm super annoyed, but my cousin is hungry and we have somewhere to be in an hour. Against my better judgment we go in to sit. They did not have the things necessary to make the drinks we wanted. We just decided to leave. The drinks are something that could be overlooked, but the customer service from Joe and the blatant discrimination were absolutely unacceptable. I have been to several cheddars locations, and so far this is the best one. The food is exactly what you can expect. It is the perfectly satisfying median in restaurant choices. I have yet to find a menu choice that was not pleasing in every way. The serving staff meets your every need in a more than efficient fashion, and is on the ball when it comes to getting you a refill, even when its busy. Last few times I've been very disappointed in the service. I also noticed that the chicken tenders that used to be huge and delicious became tiny and slimy. I decided to not order them again but noticed them on someone's plate. Back to normal. Thank goodness. The next time I came I ordered the chicken tenders... Tiny again. In addition to that dissatisfaction the last time I went my mom had to send her salad back because there was a dead fly in it. The waitress apologized and brought back another salad. ANOTHER DEAD FLY!! My last complaint is that this is the only restaurant I know of that doesn't have nutritional information available anywhere. I get that most people might not care about this, but seriously! Nowhere?! No pamphlets in the store, no binder, not even available on their website. I know most people wouldn't care but c'mon Cheddars!! I didn't think to take a picture of my pathetic chicken tenders to allow you to compare with some older chicken tenders. I'm a guy who can find something good in any restaurant. But... Cheddar's menu is wholly unremarkable. I have to say that it took me a long time to make a selection for dinner and we were not pleased. The Spinach Dip appetizer was really bland. The Margarita I had was watery. The Chicken Pot Pie my wife had was riddled with "gristle bits." And the New Orleans Pasta dish I ordered was genuinely poor quality food. We've had several poor experiences with this restaurant, but we would return occasionally and blame it on being short staffed. However, after our latest visit, we will never be back to this location. Actually, we may never visit a Cheddar's location anywhere again. When we first arrived, we were told it would be a 15-20 minute wait and they would text us once our table was ready. Nearly an hour later we received a text message saying we were removed from the wait list. We went in to see what the issue was and no apology was given and no responsibility was taken on their end. They just gave excuses like their system was messed up. We would have honestly been understanding to that issue, as we know that sometimes technology can be tricky, but then we were told they had to seat 8 parties before us. 8 parties that had arrived in the last hour while we were waiting to be seated. Needless to say, we left very unhappy and we will never return. I would advise anyone to stay far away from this restaurant. Their staff do not know what they are doing and have some of the worst customer service I've experienced. read more

I'm sitting here on Easter Sunday as I write this review. My family of 12 who came an hour early and put our name in waited for AN HOUR only to be seated at two separate tables. We are here with my 86 year old grandmother, and don't even get to sit with her. I'm sitting with my husband, brother and mother (whom I see every day) at a separate table. When my mother told the waiter we would only be eating appetizers because of the wait, and due to the fact that we aren't spending time with the rest of the family, he responded "Well, you're close to them". As if being near in proximity to another table is anything close to spending time with them. Maybe some people like to shout across restaurants to the rest of their party, but we don't. After seating us the waiter proceeded to "sell the restaurant" to the large table, touting their inexpensive prices. It's busy. Incredibly so. I've worked in restaurants, and you do NOT waste people's time like that when you have that many people waiting for tables. I've been here before, and this is the first time I've hear that particular rhetoric from the waiter. Cheddar's is not worth it. I recommend if you have a large party and are eating on a budget, you go to Olive Garden, Cinzetti's or China Star. All are fairly close by, and cheaper. And have better service. And can seat large parties. And don't lie to their customers. The list could go on. Our food hasn't even come yet. I'm only staying because I wouldn't want to disappoint my family further. Our waiter's name is John. Just found that out. Perfect timing. Update: our food is here. The person bringing it didn't realize we were the same party as the other table. Which makes sense. Because we aren't at the same table. If the wait staff doesn't consider this "together" why should we? Don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining, Cheddar's. And the knowledgeable service must have been stretched to emotional capacity from my constant queries.....BUT WHERE TO BEGIN!!?!?!? The mystery of "sweet heat" in the chicken and shrimp....does the rhyme hint towards a harmony? Sweet.....and Heat..... Mango Salsa! On grilled fish! A continental collision! And the plain honesty of "Braised Fall-a-part Beef Roast" just speaks volumes in its simplicity. The title says exactly what it is! World Class Chicken? A boast I'm ready to believe! Grown up Grilled Cheese? Why, I would not be surprised is Mr. French himself served it to me; a now-grown Jodie ready to bid welcome to my old friend as we share this reinvented classic! I just sat and rocked back and forth in joy as I read through the offerings, my seasonal disorder far from me at this point. But a decision was to be had! It caught me immediately upon reading it....."Baked Spasagna". At first I thought it might be a play on a Grecian delicacy, but no, its origin was found in the homeland of that country's oldest enemy....Italy. "Spaghetti layered with cheeses and spices and baked with meat or marinara sauce. Served with Garlic Bread." I had BOTH meat AND marinara sauce! Brilliant! Not a fan of chain restaurants. I prefer the local dives. I am writing a five star review for chain city, I mean Cheddars, because of a mistake. The Lemon Butter White Fish was awful. It tasted like it was soaked in salt. The waiter took the complaint seriously and the back of house manager came out and discussed the issue. He went back to the kitchen and returned with a fresh fish. It was the best Whitefish I've had. It's easy to blow off complaints, they proved that they could cook. Our service is usually just OK. If you get there early enough, you won't have to wait in the crazy line. I really like their chicken tenders, which are juicy and moist. I also enjoy their chicken tortilla soup. It isn't like your typical tortilla soup as it seems to have more of a tomato base, rather than broth, and is wonderfully spicy. read more

Well, service wasn't good but I'll get to that later. First off the food. Personally I had the jalapeño burger with the honey butter croissants. They only cook burgers to medium well, no more no less, why only medium well I'm not sure but it ended up being sub par. The meat was dry and there wasn't anything else on the burger except the jalapeños and a slice of cheese, also the patty was quite flat which didn't help the presentation at all. The croissants were good but not as good as the other reviews make it out to be, they tasted like croissants from Sam's Club with butter and honey added, not worth the money. Also had the onion rings and cheese bites appetizers which were decent, nothing amazing. The onion rings at least weren't too oily and the marinara sauce was far too chunky for the size of the cheese bites which were literally the size of a bite. One of the other people I was with had the lemon chicken and thought it was pretty good, but nothing special. And another dish, the fried shrimp was also just acceptable. Overall the food is nothing special, go to a better restaurant and get exceptional food for the same price, there are plenty here in Kansas city for the type of food Cheddars serves. Now for the service. First off I understand that sometimes you get a new server so they won't be that experienced yet or maybe they're having a bad day or the restaurant is busy, so I have a lot of patience for them buy this was beyond even me. First off the restaurant was busy but they had plenty of servers, each server only had three tables so the management was good in that sense. As for being new or having a bad day I can't speak on but her three tables were right next to each other and we hardly ever saw her. Took an hour just to get refills on our drinks, never came by to get the check and didn't even get our order right, she kept leaving off dishes we ordered. Her tables ended up getting handled by other waiters and even the manager came out and helped served. So they had a bad server but the employees seem to have recognized it and compensated for it, though they could only do so much due to how busy they were so the tables she was assigned ended up receiving sub par service but it could have been much worse if the restaurant didn't step up. Won't go again due to only acceptable quality food but overall not bad. read more

Tried this for the first time with our family of 10 while Christmas shopping. Seating was quick. Waitress took awhile but we got our drinks. She forgot our appetizer and was not friendly at all. We waited forever ( like 70 minutes) finally they came out and said they had a bad batch of chicken strips. Ok so take it off our order and brought complimentary croissants which were the best part of experience. They finally bring our food and it had been sitting the entire time they were trying to find chicken strips. So imagine soggy nachos, cold steak, soggy onion straws on your now barely warm chicken. No apologies. I let customer service know and they said we didn't charge for chicken strips. Well duh you shouldn't have we didn't get them. So we paid $118 for croissants and horrible service. I had gone to Cheddar's when it first opened and was impressed with the food and the service. However, today, I went with a small group and was very disappointed to see the way both had deteriorated. When I first went there, the food was outstanding, and one of their wonderful croissants was brought with the meal. The variety was great as well. Today, although a wait was expected, they broke our small group up into 2 tables, and when we were able to make room for everyone at one table, they refused to give us 2 extra chairs to accommodate us. In addition, they no longer offer a complimentary croissant. When I asked about this, the waiter said to his knowledge they never did this, and when I told him they did at one time, he said he'd check with a manager about it. He never came back. I ordered the Lemon Pepper chicken and when I explained that I did not care for white rice and asked for a substitute, the waiter said I could not make any substitution. When the dish was served, the side of broccoli, while tasty, was about 1/4 of a cup, and the two chicken breasts were very dry and burnt on the ends. Even though I was seated at a separate table with one other guest, I was automatically charged a service charge of 15%. I have decided that this was the last visit I planned to make to this restaurant, as there are many more accommodating restaurants who willingly make substitutions at the customer's request and provide complimentary bread. I had only been to Cheddar's in Springfield until recently moving to Overland Park. Now this place is a favorite. I've had the sirloin steak which was good, not the best but it is sirloin and also the chicken fried chicken which was delicious. But those little mini dessert shots are amazing.
