Went to Cheddars last night and had one of the worst experiences that I've ever had there. I ordered the ribeye which came out with a giant knot of hair in it. They did remake it and took it off my check but the steak had no flavor. We then ordered a monster cookie for our grandkids for desert, it looked terrible when it came out. The cookie was rock hard and completely unappetizing. My wife and I have been going to this Cheddars since it first opened up. It seems, like so many other restaurants, that they start out great and gradually decline in service and quality as time goes on. We will never go back. read more

Look, this may be the last remaining restaurant in Kansas City that still serves a monte cristo sandwich since 180 closed and that train wreck that was Bennigans vanished from the face of the earth. Most of the food is pub quality, better than Chilis but not as good as Houstons, but that sandwich, the legendary Monte Cristo makes it worthwhile. Quick dinner with a friend. I had the bacon cheeseburger, no bun, with steamed broccoli on the side. The burger was essentially murdered on the grilled, wayyy over done, but I was too hungry to send it back. Also, the burger came without the cheese as promised. Sadness. Bacon was alright though, nice and crispy. Since I didn't have a bun, it came with diced onion, pickles, tomato, and shredded lettuce on the side. It was nice to build my own bite, so to speak, but the burger was dry enough that not even juicy tomato could save it. I asked for mustard. Broccoli was yummy. The service was fine and prompt so that helped things. read more

Waitress was great, only reason for a star. Filthy floors around tables, food on chairs, sticky tabletop. Spouse ordered the tilapia, OVERSEASONED and super salty veggies. Green beans cooked to point of mushy. I ordered crispy chicken tenders salad; tenders were cold, chewy. Salad was fresh enough, but tasted like it was left uncovered in the fridge. The accompanying croissant was cold, zero melt to the applied honey butter. I've been a cheddars fan other places for many years; this was my last visit to this one. The new fall apart beef was mainly a pile of mashed potatoes with very little beef and carrots, and a bunch of onions. It was bland and not worth the price! The chicken fried steak was a bunch of batter with a little, tough, gristle filled steak. The sweet tea is just a big cup of sugar. A burger was ordered in place of the chicken fried steak, and it was great! The one positive aspect is, they really went above and beyond to apologize for the return of the chicken fried steak, by offering a free dessert, and not charging us for the burger either. read more

If I could give a fraction of a star, I would. About a month ago the Girlfriend and I waited 15 minutes to be seated, no problem there except for the fact half of the dining room was empty. Once seated it took 25 minutes for someone to acknowledge our existence despite the fact two waitresses hovered around our section. Drinks took 10 min and appetizers promptly came out 25 min after that. Why we waited 40min for our food is beyond me..chalk it up to wanting to believe they were backed up in the kitchen. Food came out mostly cold, waitress came and refilled our waters once in this whole ordeal. The bathroom looked like a war torn city and the floors hadn't seen a mop all week. Another couple was sat in our section and they too were ignored until I snagged the manager and told him they were either ghosts or the waitresses were too busy scrolling through Tumblr to attend to them. He ended up comping our meal which we shouldn't have even stuck around for as I could have microwaved some broccoli at home, let it sit for 30 minutes then not eaten it. read more

A family member called me up and invited me out to Cheddar's at her treat - free food is the best food, so I accepted her invitation. Having never been to Cheddar's before, I was surprised at the overwhelming amount of people waiting to be seated at 6 p.m. on Saturday evening. The lobby was busting at its seams with families and middle-aged couples. Cheddar's is a large restaurant divided into many small areas - we were seated in a booth tucked away in a corner. It gave the illusion of an intimate gathering. Our server whirred around his station, quickly taking care of all of his tables and doing a pretty good job of it. Like most chain restaurants, this menu is diverse offering a little something for everyone. The prices were more than reasonable - which is what I think accounts for the large crowds. We started with a stack of onion rings. I like my onion rings a little more thick-cut than these which were flimsy and limp (we had a discussion about this at the table and were split 50/50 on the style of rings - thin or thick - that we like). The flavor was good, although not very crispy. I went with fried chicken and waffles for my main course, but started my dinner with a house salad with Italian dressing and a honey butter croissant. The dressing was, most likely, Kraft or something like that. Everyone was raving about the croissant, who was I to deny myself? In the same way Americans love their Pillsbury croissants from the can, they love the Cheddar's croissants. They were warm and the butter was melted, but they weren't the best things I've ever had. They weren't even the best food I'd had that day. My waffle was a little too toasted and dry - it could've used a little less time in the iron. The chicken fingers that accompanied it were good, but I had to ask for honey mustard twice. The waiter checked back on us a couple of times but forgot to refill my water. I hate it when my dining companions who order soft drinks or tea get refills but my water glass remains empty. Would I go back to Cheddar's? Honestly the food was fine - it was the kind of food Americans love to eat. It's the kind of place my mom would love. I would go there again, but I wouldn't choose to eat there on my own. read more

Prices are on the low end of the scale especially the appetizers, the onion rings are really good, and cheap too an order is only 3.99. I ordered the Monte Cristo which I felt guilty eating because it's basically like one reviewer said "eating ham-flavored funnel cake with raspberry jam". I don't think I would order it again, it was quite heavy. With a name like Cheddar's you can't expect healthy food. My sister and dad both got chicken fried steak, minus the gravy (gotta cut calories some where). And my mom ordered a burger which I got to try some of and it was pretty good. My son got chicken fingers which you can't go wrong with, and my wife got the club which was a club good but nothing to rave about. read more

This was the worst service I have ever had the displeasure of receiving. We went around 6pm on a Monday and sat at a booth in the bar. It was not busy at all, yet the waitress kept herself busy by talking to her friend. We ordered drinks and food at the same time. The food came before the drinks. The waitress didn't even bring us water. We had to yell at the waitress to get her attention about my missing drink. She went off somewhere without getting my drink. Finally she brought my beer and it was the wrong size. She didn't even notice until I brought it to her attention. She returned the beer to the bar and continued talking to her friend at the bar while the bartender was doing I'm not sure what. I waited and waited, no beer, so I went to the bar and asked about my beer. She said she was waiting for the bartender to "make" it (pretty sure you put a glass under the beer and pour it in.. no shaking required). I asked for water at least for both of us. A few minutes later she comes back with one water. We had to ask her again for another water. After we were finished eating my beer finally came- which I didn't drink because we were leaving. The waitress never apologized and didn't even comp the beer. When I spoke to the manager, he wasn't any better (no surprise the service sucked). He was useless and basically just shooed us out without a sincere apology or trying to make it better. Friendly tip: go across the street to Houlihan's and enjoy great service and more appealing food. read more

Very good food! Long wait. Wait averages half an hour to an hour but its well worth the wait. Very large food portions too. Cheddar's serves everything from All-American hamburgers and seafood to wraps, steaks and just about any American comfort food as well as some good ol' soul food. read more

The food was terrible...I ordered the "slow beef roast" thinking it was red meat and it was actually "VEAL'!!! The vegetable looks wilted and not tasty. My wife ordered the Dijon Chicken and all the vegetables actually came out of a canned and this was verified by the manager when we asked. We usually eat at locally owned reataurants and decided to give Cheddar's a shot and it FAILED!!! Service was good and drinks were good but food....NOT. Will not visit them again. read more

It was noisy and every time the front door was open our feet were freezing all the way on the other side of the dining room. My "southern style green beans" were no more than canned Italian green beans with a some sauteed onions. They were out of their baked potato soup, which is why I went there. My friend's stead was flavorless and served at room temp. On the other hand, the service was good, maybe even a little too attentive. Probably won't be returning any time soon. read more

My family and I came in at 6pm on a Monday night. We have never been to a Cheddars and are also from 2 hours out of town. We were promptly sat and the hostess was very friendly but our server came out and did not even say hello. My husband said hello and she quickly just asked "what do you want to drink? Do you want an appetizer?" then hurriedly walked away. We ended up leaving because we felt unwanted. I get it, as I am a server and bartender. But because I wait tables and tend bar I know that people go out to eat for the experience and want to feel welcome. We work too damn hard for crappy service especially when it's so far and in between we as a family can be together. read more

The ONLY reason I ever go here is because the food is usually good. I always dread when my wife craves the buffalo chicken wrapper because I know I have to deal with the HORRIBLE customer service. I have been in 1 time out of the last 30 or so times where I have received ok customer service. Came here for Sunday lunch to meet family and friends. I'd been to another location once before, but this was my first time at the OP location. The server was great and did a pretty good job. But the food... I ordered a basic bacon cheeseburger. The menu says all burgers are cooked medium-well - Great! That's how I like them. The food comes out and it looks fantastic. I take my first bite and... see pink ground beef staring back at me. The burger was sent back, much apologies were given, and in about 10 minutes I had a new burger in front of me. This one was acceptable, but I still wouldn't have called it medium-well. It was alright, but I've had better burgers out of a fast food joint. read more

I can't believe how busy the place was considering the food that was served. It was packed, so we were both eager to try the new experience. Trying to get through the restruant was like running a gauntlet. The food was 'mediocre' (we had a sandwich and a salad), nothing a normal person couldn't make at home and if not better. Cheddar's is A-OK. A good summary of Cheddar's would probably be an inexpensive American casual restaurant. I see it is as the American version of On The Border. The food is decent and the price is even better. Truth be told, I always thought Cheddar's was a fondue place like The Melting Pot simply because of the name: Cheddar's. It really makes me think of a pot of melted cheddar cheese. I've always wanted to try the place and never had the patience because the place is simply packed most of the time. The place itself is decorated pretty well. The fish tank divides the bar area and the dining area and bottles of alcohol are displayed around the tank. The main dining area has an intriguing fan, which most likely does not help ventilate, but looks great below the skylight. Opening up the menu, I was amazed at the cost of each dish. There is not one entrée above $20 and most items are under $10. The lunch specials are an even better bargain. They have a variety of choices from chicken tenders, philly cheesesteak sandwiches, to seafood entrees. From my two visits, I've tasted the buffalo chicken wrap, chicken tenders, tortilla soup, and grilled salmon. All were tasty but my favorite item wasn't the actual main dish but the sides. The broccoli casserole is deliciously cheesy, exactly what I thought Cheddar's would be. I am also very fond of their apple & yogurt medley side. Some items come with two sides while some come with one. I would definitely try one of aforementioned sides. They also have a vegetable plate option which comes with your choice of a soup or salad plus your choice of four sides, all of which is under $6. It is a good deal seeing as how each side dish is $1.99. Their baked croissant is famous among those who frequent Cheddars and it is indeed good but it is difficult to eat it without feeling horrible a few minutes later from the amount of butter the croissant is smothered in. The reason I give Cheddar's a three-star rating is the fact that the food is just okay. In my opinion, it is essentially an upscaled diner, greasy foods and all. I also find that because this place is very busy, service is not all that great. During both my visits, the waiters have forgotten some food items and were not too good at refilling drinks. The place can also get dirty quickly, especially the floors under tables and near high traffic areas. I also asked a server if they did anything special for birthdays and the response was a no because that is how they keep prices low. It is a good answer but it makes me wonder what else they are doing to cut costs. With that being said, Cheddar's is not a bad restaurant, quite the contrary. TOTALLY AWESOME! I've been here....2 or 3 times and have never ever had a bad experience. Where shall I start? It's definitely popular, and for Good reason. The food is basically all your favorite American home cooking classics. They have anything from a chicken fried steak all the way to a Monte cristo! I personally believe they have some of the best mashed potatoes ever. They use the good country style white gravy and not the cheap brown kind. The prices are affordable for sure. They give excellent portion sizes for your money as-well. If there was something bad to say, it would be that it stays CROWDED CONSTANTLY! Every time I went it was a 20-40 minute wait. But it is well worth it. The restaurant was also very nicely decorated and was nice and clean. I shall return! read more

After driving over 20 miles to dine at this restaurant. I will never make this drive again. I had friends that were visiting from out of town with me and I brought them here because they had tried your sister store in Texas. We had to wait for over 20 minutes before someone acknowledged that we were sitting at a high to table in the bar area. There was only one other high top table that was occupied and all the booths except 2 were empty. I had to flagged down a waitress, Amanda, to start the process of waiting on our table. (I gave her a $20 tip for just acknowledging our table) There were 3 people standing and talking behind the bar. There was an open booth by the emergency exit that had employees sitting. I won't even go into how long we had to wait for 2 salads and a chicken dish that was grilled took to be served lukewarm. Let's just say Cheddar's in Kansas will not get mine nor anyone else's business if I can help it. Poor Service. Very disappointed. read more

Bad experience for lunch today at this Cheddars. My husband and I sat at the bar and watched everyone around us get their food before us and we placed our order before them. We both drank two glasses of tea and finally food came. My salmon, was hardly warm and the broccoli looked sick and it was cold as hell and also the carrots were cold. I don't even know where to begin. 7/27/19 at around 8:30 p.m. a group of 7 of us went in to dine. We were told we had about a 20 minute wait and that was about all it was. Good start. We had said we would like a table and were sat in a longer booth. We dealt with it. Our server Eric greeted up pretty promptly for our drink orders. That took about 10 mins to bring 5 waters, 1 lemonade and one soda. Took our order for appetizers and 3 cocktail drinks which we ordered 2 orders of croissants, and 2 chips and queso. We received them fairly quickly about 15 mins. He then takes our orders and that is where it goes downhill. (None of us had gotten refills yet on our drink, nor asked yet either.) 15 mins go by and the 3 cocktails are brought out (still no offer of refills on our beverages). Other tables are seated after us, one 2 top and a family of about 6 behind us. We see they have gotten their food (we have waited for about 45 min by now for our main courses. We stopped a waitress that obviously wasn't even ours as we hadn't seen our waiter in some time now how much longer we had to wait on our food? None of us ordered anything that should take much time, 2 veggie plates, lemon chicken, grilled salmon, 6 oz sirloin, Cajun pasta and a rib/shrimp plate. This manager Joe comes to our table and gives us some excuse that our waiter is the closer and he is clearing tickets and that our food would be right out. Which here it comes right behind him. Everyone gets their orders, the veggie plates look absolutely disgusting. They are cold. The broccoli is hard and brown on their plates as well as the salmon plate and lemon chicken plate. The loaded potatoes and loaded mash potatoes were NOT loaded and one had gravy on it. The rib/shrimp was okay, the 6 oz sirloin was not cooked properly, the salmon was okay, the Cajun pasta dish was ice cold. We asked for the manager to come back after finally flagging down another wait staff. He came back to the table and asked what the problem was and we explained all of this to him, he offers to remake everything which we replied we didn't have another hour to wait on our food. He then asked what we wanted him to do about it then? Really? You are the manager, YOU tell us what you are going to do to make this right? His solution was to offer us money off of food that we clearly were not eating. He did give us money off, but not everyone and it surely wasn't even good enough. I will be bashing this place forever! I have never had a bad meal or service at any other Cheddars. I see the same complaint over and over for this location. Either this is a franchise or corporate doesn't give a crap! Shame on either! Oh I almost forgot to mention how disgusting all of the surrounding tables and floors were around us. Food on the floor, not just crumbs, but whole pieces of food that were left. That all stayed that way the entire 2 hours we were there. Food on the booth seats, dishes left on the tables. DISGUSTING!!!! read more

My husband and I go to Cheddar's a couple times a year and are always pleased with the service and food. He is a sucker for their buffalo chicken wraps. The buffalo sauce has a unique smokiness and the wraps include pickles, giving them a spicier, fuller flavor than the average buffalo chicken wrap. I found the veggie quesadillas and the portabello sandwich to be pretty much perfect. This place gets VERY full, but there's lots of waiting-room seating and they have the little electronic coasters to alert you when you are at the top of the list, both of which help. Oh, and the queso is surprisingly good! Their chips are a little thicker and greasier than I like, but not bad. read more
