We were at a football game in Arkansas, and they had a food stand offering Slim's Chicken. We thought it was some of the best chicken tenders we have had. So, we were driving around in Overland Park and saw a Slim's Chicken. We hoped it was the same brand as we had in Arkansas. Turns out it was the same. The chicken strips were delicious. Hot, tender, good size and very juicy. Also, for the price, got a 4-piece strips meal, for less than $10 got a lot of food. Meal included Texas toast, generous serving of fries and a drink. They also, have over a dozen dipping sauces to pick from. It is almost overwhelming to select a sauce. There is another major chicken fast food chain, whose chicken tenders we use as the comparison point. Didn't think it was possible, however these are better. Now, with that said, and looking at some of the other reviews comments I do have to say that the disposition of the service folks could take some lessons from this other chicken fast food chain. It was okay service; however given the overall taste and value of the chain I would now put this as my preference for the best chicken tenders that I have had. The service differences are not enough to drive me to the other chain. One other thing. They do have chicken wings. I got one to give it a try. It was okay and I would say expensive for what you get. So, none of their chicken wings for me. Stay with the tenders. My rating is only based on the chicken tenders, not the wings. read more

Slim chickens is a super cute restaurant. I love the design. That being said, the food is just mediocre. But it could all be a preference thing! For the fries, they aren't crispy enough for me. They are fried but somehow still soft. I like my fries to be crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The buns taste good and are fluffy but are greasy. Not something I could expect from a bun. The chicken is fine. Alone it doesn't stand out and I think they rely on the sauces. Which there are a crazy amount of options. The "sweet" tea is anything but. I don't know what their recipe is or sugar percentage but they need to make some adjustments. Seriously, it didn't taste like they put any sugar in there. The staff is friendly and helpful. My visit today was specifically to try the new Nashville Hot Sandwich. Let me tell you, it lives up to its name! That sandwich is crazy hot! If you like your tongue and lips to feel like they are being burnt off have at it! I ordered the slaw on the side as it is mayo based and wasn't sure I would like it but I wish I had had more. It helped to temper the hot sauce that the chicken is covered in and then I also tried adding honey on top. You come here for the sauces and the sides. Chicken is chicken and theirs is good but not that much different from the other chains. They have over a dozen different dipping sauces. Their fried okra is the bomb dot com. My son loved the Mac and cheese. Wife liked her slaw. My only gripe was that they had two ice machines and neither one was producing ice. My grandson and I ordered on the app and mistakenly read to pick up through drive thru (which is what you do after10pm). They were so nice about our mistake. I have become enamored with their healthy grilled chicken salad ($8.99 with drink before discounts), and its good variety of fresh veggies, and the generous portion of tasty, moist, grilled chicken. I like the 10:30 am opening time, the friendly and efficient staff at the counter, and the clean and spacious dining area with TVs and background music. My wife received a coupon in the mail for her birthday to the (relatively) new Slim Chickens, so we decided to drop in and give it a try! We had a fantastic experience from the word "go"! Our order taker was very, very good and helpful. We let her know it was our first time, and she took some time to help us through a thorough and satisfying order of perfect proportions. My wife ordered the Slim Plate, I got the chicken and waffle, and, upon the advice of the aforementioned order-taking engineer, we ordered a large mac and cheese side to split for our kids. Everything was a major hit! We were told the large mac and cheese was enough of a helping for the kids to fill up on the one order, but in practice, it was waaaaay more than enough! Mom and dad *might* have both had a half-dozen bites of it as well. It was some SERIOUS mac and cheese! I'll probably even go so far as to say it's the best fast food or fast-casual mac and cheese I've ever experienced! My chicken and waffles was AWESOME, and since that's one of my favorite meals, it's going to be difficult for me to restrain from picking it up at least once a week! (Hey - who doesn't like a completely valid excuse to have waffles and syrup for a meal other than breakfast??!?!?) They have a lot of drink options, including multiple types of tea, which I very much appreciated. Also, there is extra syrup, sauces and other condiments on hand. Got the 8 wing meal (mango habanero) with ranch dipping sauce and fries. The wait in the drive through is long. It took 15 minutes to receive my food--I probably should have just ordered inside to save gas. The meal came with a slice of toast. The toast was fantastic, slightly crunchy on the toasted sides and so soft on the inside. I think they used a garlic oil when toasting. Fries were well seasoned and the ranch was buttermilk, so yummy. The wings, however, were not nearly as good. The meat was dry, and the skin on the meat was difficult to chew. The sweet elderly cashier was super kind and friendly. A huge contrast to the manager?/waiter/drivethru guy who delivered our food to the table. Dude, I understand you hate your job, or at least that was what you were projecting, but don't take it out on your customers. First, you dropped all of our chicken baskets on the table, you gave me my slaw with your fingers touching it, and you never acknowledged any of us and gave us a sour facial expression the entire time. Thought I should provide a public service announcement for those that may read this: I would avoid this location if at all possible - they have been out of compliance with the Kansas Department of Agriculture since February of 2019, and have had multiple code violations through the year - read their report for more. After the visit this evening, I don't think I'll ever return to this slim chickens, or possibly any - and can attest that improvements in their practices are not soon to improve. One girl was observed by the health inspector to drop a glove, pick it up off the ground, put it on, and load a person's plate with ready-to-eat (RTE) chicken; when told by the inspector what she'd done, the employee "didn't even realize she had done it." Sounds about right considering what I'd seen this evening, and that incident was almost a year ago! When going in for some quick chicken and waffles, I quickly noticed that no one over the age of 20 was on staff, and that every one of the half dozen unbusied employees looked ready to leave, entertaining each other with nonsense. Two of the guys in the back were wearing their hair visors backwards - rendering their contamination mitigation functions moot - one of them wasn't even wearing gloves while handling the jug of batter. Then when watching the cashier retrieve my food from the service window, he put his thumb on top of the sanitary sheet thus touching my syrup - now sticky, he sucked the syrup off his thumb then reacquired my plate in the same location. Reaching for my second plate with the other hand, he again placed his thumb on top of the sanitary sheet, and literally pushed the waffle forward with his ungloved cashiers thumb. I stopped him right there, and canceled the order - handling money, phones, and his personal drink sitting next to the service window and then the customer's food while ungloved is a glaring cardinal hazard; trust me, food-borne illness during flu season is a nightmare, and certainly not worth $6 at a chicken shop run by fectless children. This location may seem functional in the day, and when busy - but with how absurdly lax the operation was on this evening, I'd never visit this location even if I were paid to - and with what behavior I witnessed, I'm currently writing a report to the department of health; food safety isn't anything to trifle with, and such cavalier behavior never belongs in a place that serves sustenance to the public - certainly paying customers require better, and do not deserve the risks taken by these oblivious kids left with the keys to the castle. Slim Chicken's administration should know better, and frankly I'm surprised - Zaxby's down the street wins the cake for most awful (honestly, I want a bath after Zaxby's), but ol' slims is closing margins real quick! read more

Not sure why this place only gets 3 's. Chicken wings, tenders, sandwiches are all solid especially considering it's like fast food. Buffalo chicken sandwich and bacon ranch chicken sandwich are very good with a good piece of white meat chicken. Shared some fried pickles as well and they were also good. Used to come here often and have seen this place go downhill. Decided to try this place once again with my dad and it's just the same and hasn't gotten any better. Once we walked in, several workers were in the front arguing about who was going to take our order. One lady had an attitude and was like "fine" i'll do it. "Hi, welcome to slim chickens, what's you're order?". Placed order, everything was set. Workers will fill drink for you and bring it to your table. We waited about 20 minutes for our food and there was no one even in the lobby. Most of the workers were just sitting around and had major attitudes. Our food finally arrived to our table. I order the 5 and 5 with the tenders dipped in Honey BBQ and extra sauce as well. The wings with Medium. The tenders weren't even dipped at all and the wings were plain. Asked for more sauce and they said it costed extra. Dads food was cold and depressing. We saw that food had just sat the window for a good 10 minutes with people all around doing nothing. I specifically asked if I would be charged an extra side of sauce if I got my wings plain with the sauce on the side instead of the sauce on the wings (I've been the locations in Fayetteville so I know they charge for extra sauce). She told me she would ask and came back and said I could have the wings in a sauce and 2 dipping sauces. After that I repeatedly stated that I didn't want the sauce on the side if I had to pay for an extra sauce. I didn't want extra sauce, I just wanted the sauce that would be on the wings on the side so my kids can eat the plain wings and I could have sauce. I stated which 2 dipping sauces I wanted and which sauce I wanted for my wings. I had to repeat this a few different ways until she finally got it. We pull up to the window and they say the 2 sauces with a side sauce. I sigh and she repeats it the way I ordered it. Then when it comes time to pay I hand her my card. She comes back and states that it has been declined. I've been having issues with my card swiping so I ask her to try entering it manually. She tells me she did and each time it has declined with a smirk on her face. We hand her another card to pay and leave. I look at the receipt and of course see the charge for the extra side of sauce. I feel silly going back to complain about 0.29 (which I know isn't a big deal but its the principal!) and I'm on the phone with my credit card company so we leave. I tell them about the issue and they tell me that they do see the decline but it was because an invalid expiration date was entered. So yeah overall my experiences at Slim Chickens have never been pleasant. Now as far as the food goes, its pretty decent. We ordered the 5&5 plate and chicken & waffle. Dipping sauces we tried were the slim's sauce, gravy and mango habanero. I wasn't too impressed with any of the sauces. The chicken and tenders are just mediocre. This new location of Slim Chickens in Overland Park is in a new plaza jointly located with Coach's bar and grill. They serve Tenders & Wings, Salads, Chicken and waffles, 3 wraps & a sandwich with dipping and wing sauce options. Everything comes with a medium drink and fries which can be substituted for mac & cheese, coleslaw, potato salad, fried okra, fried pickles, fried mushrooms, along with 2 dessert offerings to offer customers a variety to choose from. First off, walking into the restaurant it reminded me of walking into an InNOut burger joint where the menus were up on the wall as you walk through 2 double doors, restrooms to the right and drinks to the left of the cashier. You walk up and order, grab your drinks, and pick a table to your left. The major difference is you bring a number with you and a Server delivers your food. (so this part reminded me of ChickAFilA style of serving). The food was fresh and hot when it arrived at the table I had to wait for the fried mushrooms to cool a bit or I'd keep burning my tongue. Tenders - juicy what I believe might have been all white meat chicken flaked perfectly and fried. I pulled a piece off and it ripped up to the perfect tear, to dip into their sauce of your choice. The sweet and sour sauce was the red Asian sweet and sour that you dip egg rolls in. The honey mustard and ranch were traditional and always good with chicken. The honey bbq sauce I have to say has a kick to it even though it wasn't the spicy bbq which I wondered if I accidentally got the wrong one, but friends told me the spicy was different. Hubby got the wings tossed in Teriyaki, and although it was tasty I wouldn't get my wings tossed in sauce anymore I rather dip and control how much sauce is on my chicken since getting it tossed it was fairly saucy and killed it for me. Fries are fresh cut french fries seasoned well, but the fried mushrooms were so yummy I would be substituting my fries from now on. Fried okra had the crunch you expect and want in your fried food and it was so much better than what you would find at Churchs chicken. My friend got a bbq wrap and although still tasty, it was rolled pretty slim and I felt like maybe there were 1-2 tenders inside. The tenders meal would be more fulfilling from the looks and the one bite I tried. An ABSOLUTE MUST DO : get a jarred dessert. Need I say more? A jarred dessert is whatever they serve that day but is in a logo Mason jar you get to take home if you don't finish. That day they offered strawberry shortcake and a chocolate brownie. I have to say being a chocoholic I went for the chocolate and my hubby strawberry. Of course I tried both and although I love chocolate between the 2 I enjoyed the strawberry more. Why? The first few bites of the chocolate were yummy, it was whipped cream then brownie bites and chocolate pudding parfait with toffee crunch, what more can you ask for. I felt the pudding was ok, and when I got to the bottom all I had left was the semi dry cake like brownie bites with nothing else left to offset the dry. The strawberry shortcake on the other hand had the similar issue of the cheesecake on the bottom but the fresh cut strawberries and the mixture was just heavenly first few bites. I'm becoming more and more disappointed with this place The ambience inside is nice - I love the tvs playing the games when I do come in to sit down, and it's typically pretty darn clean. There's also a nice little patio area to sit outside on nice days :) When it first opened up I was impressed as the amount of food wasn't bad for the price and the food was great! The sauces are fantastic, my favorites to pair being the slim sauce and the cayenne ranch!! My go-to order is the 5&5 plate- 5 wings (med hot) and 5 tenders, and swap out the fries for their Mac n cheese! The desserts in mason jars are pretty good too! However since they've opened there have been some changes that brought down what would be a 5 star review to a 3. First of all tonight and a few others, it took waaaay too long to get my order ( I get waiting for fresh food - but come on, tonight I waited what was about 20 min in the drive through). Plus I didn't get any forks/utensils, napkins and I had to ask for my drinks. What pissed me off the most though was when I opened up the cheap boxes they've switched to, my tenders could barely be called tenders - the one was barely a nugget! Husband and I both had tenders meals and upgraded the fries to fried pickles and fried mushrooms. The batter on both the tenders and the pickles/mushrooms was really light and crispy. No beer batter 1/4" thick coating here. I found it didn't have much flavor and really needed the sauces. We tried the BBQ, spicy ranch, regular ranch and honey mustard. None were worth writing home about, I don't think they make them in house. A big plus for sports fans would be the placement of the 4 big TVs, each in a corner so no matter where you sit you'll be able to see the game. read more

Decided to try this place on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. The customer service was AMAZING!! We had a little bit of a wait for our food and was offered a free dessert. Their cheesecake jars are delicious. I had the Oreo and would definitely get again. The chicken tenders are good. Very crispy and not too salty. The fries were also cooked to a good crisp. If you want some quality chicken tenders - this is your place. I ordered the Slim basket - 5 strips (3 grilled & 2 fried), Mac n cheese & Texas toast. The strips are very large but were clearly made to order & actual white chicken breast pieces. Mac n cheese are a definite solid side choice- creamy cheddar sauce & decent serving. The toast is more like garlic bread - the pieces had A garlicky buttery taste. You can 2 sauces with your meal. I got the honey mustard & chipotle ranch (ranch with a slight kick). I could eat the tenderloins with sauce - yes that's how good they were. I was extremely pleased with the seasoning on the grilled pieces. Some of reviews state that it is a little pricey but I thought the quality warrants the price. Also the manager was bringing out food and checking on customers - he definitely cares about this place!
