Me waiting for my food.
Lorrie D.

I was in Kansas visiting my newest grandson I wanted to have some soul food with my brother who lives in Grandview while I was in town. He told me about this spot so I went and picked us up some lunch. He ordered oxtails and grits with a side of cabbage and some peach cobbler. I ordered the tackle box with shrimp, fish and chicken wings and a side of greens. I thought I was getting fries and greens, but I only got the greens and they were okay, but I gave them to my brother. The cabbage was also just OK because there wasn't much juice in them, so they were pretty dry. Everything else was absolutely delicious. I had never had Basa fish, but I loved it loved it loved it ! I will definitely go back when I am in town next. Matter fact, I ordered two to go plates: oxtail and grits for my son and Basa fish and yams for his wife. They loved their orders as well. My only recommendation would be that they put the grits and oxtails in a different kind of container. Even though it was double bagged the Styrofoam does not accommodate the grits. Customer service was great. The tall young man who served me made a little mistake on my ticket, but it was OK. They fixed it....everybody was nice. Totally enjoyed myself.

There is absolutely nothing 'classic' about this restaurant, I've tasted better food at hospital cafeterias...The ONLY reason this place got two stars is because the cake was to die for, melt in your mouth deliciousness but the "soul food" absolute TRASH! Who seasons macaroni with msg (accent)... disgusting...PLUS I was given a so called 'pork chop' that was the size of a giant chicken breast [pictured]...the yams were crunchy, not terrible but missing something and the fries were old ...how long does it take to cook fries when you've already cooked the fish and chicken which were pretty good....this place is lacking quality by far...would not recommend and would not return...ONLY for the cake

Oxtails

We tried a little bit of everything, and it was all good, but the oxtails stole the show. I don't usually go for oxtails, but these I'd come back for again and again. We tried both the smoked and braised, and they were fall-off-the-bone tender, super meaty, and packed with flavor. If you must try anything on the menu make it the oxtails.

Talking about oversized goodness! Chicken Po-boy and seasoned fries made to order! Pipin hot, juicy and bursting with flavor .. definitely had a kick to it as well not just to po-boy sauce! Friendly service+

The Pitch Sandwich Week Stop #1 BBQ Honey Sriracha Chicken Sandwich That insane crunch and that addictive sauce, this sandwich was firing on all cylinders. This is the definition of a local "mom and pop" neighborhood restaurant located in the Wyandotte area of KCK. Everything here is made to order so be prepared to be patient but, good food takes time to prepare and each item here was made impeccably- no complaints from me chef! The sandwich special wasn't on the menu but, they knew exactly what I was talking about and whipped one up for me and boy, am I glad they did. It was delicious, delectable and definitely worth the wait. Since we were already out a little ways from where we live we decided it was only right to order something else from the menu and Monday had the written special of a Tackle Box so, we went with that. It has a little sample of everything with expertly fried flaky basa and tender plump shrimps as well as, jumbo crispy wings and a pile of french fries. The only thing missing was some sauce/hot sauce but that was easily remedied at home. 1930 Classic Kitchen knows how to fry their fish, let me tell you that! These filets had a seasoned cornmeal batter, classic fish fry mix feels, that adhered to the thick(ish) pieces of basa without issue. The crispy exterior was the perfect opposite to the soft steamy interior. The wings also were cooked fantastically, with succulent light and dark meat still juicy inside the fried crispy coating. A1 on everything coming out of that magical fryer, I sing its praises. Now onto the star of the show, the whole reason we drove here, that glorious and glistening chicken sandwich covered in finger licking good sensational sauce. The chicken breast itself was bigger than the bun, which is always a good sign when it comes to a sandwich. They knew what they were doing when creating this special sauce because it hit all the taste buds. The sweet notes from the honey melded with the slightly spicy tingly sriracha, it was a match made in flavor heaven. The cajun coleslaw was also the right mix of creamy and seasoned, not your average sad slaw and it was obviously delicious piled on top that sandwich, added a cool (temperature wise) crisp crunch.

Let's start with the decor: gorgeous, cozy, and tastefully executed--the perfect backdrop for a top-notch dining experience. The staff is personable and warm, and Brandon (the sous chef) was an absolute delight to speak with and learn from. He is truly passionate about oysters and a consummate chef, paying such close attention to the finer details of how to truly enjoy the marvels he flies in fresh to his restaurant. The food: wow. Oysters were as beautiful as they were varied and delicious; jamon iberico de bellota (this was the real deal, by the way) that transported me back to Catalunya; a panko-breaded halibut dish with mashed potatoes and some of the most vibrant collared greens I've ever eaten. EVERYTHING was delivered with such precision and beauty, and the flavors were from another planet. The experience: as good as it gets. Thank you to The Parker Hollow team for an unforgettable culinary adventure!

Or is a cozy bar with comfy chairs, warm lighting and a full menu more your style? No problem - The Parker Hollow is here, AND it has a terrific menu, too! While I had the fisherman's stew (rich, decadent broth, loaded with seafood goodies - no measly Midwestern "here's your requisite two suffering shrimp" here), maybe seafood isn't your thing. And that's okay, because my husband had the Wagyu beef burger just to ease your concerns, and he said it was absolutely fabulous. Or at least his empty plate did. For dessert we suffered through the orange blossom saffron olive oil cake. You read that right - all of those words belong there, in that order. And by "suffer," I obviously mean our usually pretty chill marriage was tested by Who Would Get the Last Bite. It was that flipping good. And rich, and weird. But it was the perfect compliment to our dinner, as was his drink (I cannot remember what it was called, but it tasted like key lime pie and sunshine). We will definitely be back!

We had no idea what we were walking in to but I am so happy to have found it! As we were promptly seated in started hearing a "tink tink" sound and looked up. Yall!! The cutest glass hummingbirds were hanging from the ceiling. It was stunning!! Ok, the food!!! I had the crab fried rice which my husband had to help me finish because it was a huge amount! Share if you can but with the understanding you might fight over the last bite. If you still have room after dinner get the butter cake! Ladies, it is worth the calories! The waiter was prompt and had us with drinks in no time! For lunch, we ordered the chicken sandwich with the Greek Goddess dressing, the wedge salad, the beet salad, and the miso soup. Every dish was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. We all enjoyed our meals so much that I brought my family and friends back for dinner just a few days later. The dinner menu is definitely pricier than lunch, but it was absolutely worth it. We ordered the Bistro steak, pork chop, and free-range chicken, and every entrée was cooked perfectly. The flavors were creative, balanced, and absolutely phenomenal. The drinks were also excellent, and the service was attentive and friendly. The ambiance truly completes the experience. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, and having a live piano player during dinner adds such a warm, elegant touch. We loved everything about Prima Facie and are already looking forward to bringing more family and friends to enjoy this wonderful restaurant. Highly recommended!

The fries were crinkle cut and well seasoned and piping hot. The tartare was ice cold and very flavorful. All in all, a great spot to catch up and nosh. Highly recommend!
