I had such a great experience here the other night.... great, great service as a solo diner in the bar. It was actually pretty entertaining on a Saturday night -- lots of the staff would pop in and chat w/ the bartender and I. It was actually alot of fun. I ordered: Maui Margarita $4.95 -- yumm! Onion Rings $3.99 -- very good, HUGE, couldn't finish them all Spasagna (can't remember how much, but under $10) Mango Mojito $4.95 ? - I think Everything was awesome - - I highly recommend the Spasagna sooooo good! No waiting to be seated. Once we were seated it was approximately 15 minutes before we were approached by a server. Servers were very pleasant. We ordered drinks and food, wife's drink was served pretty quick but mine took a while. I ordered a salad with my diner. It came after I was served the chicken pot pie. So I had it to go. The pot pie was very good and fresh. The wife had ribs & coconut shrimps. She liked the taste and rids were tender but were room temperature, as were the shrimp. I went there one night with some friends. It was my first time. I had their ribs & chicken tender combo with broccoli and a baked potato , my friend had their ribs & fried shrimp combo and our other friend had their catfish with broccoli. Their ribs were fall off the bone and delicious. Their chicken tenders are amazing. Their portions are pretty big too which was good. I had their Maui Margarita and it was delicious. We were staying at a nearby hotel and did not want to drive to a restaurant. The weather report was predicting rain in a couple of hours. We looked out the front door of the hotel and saw Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen. We had seen a couple others during our drive across Texas and decided that it was worth the risk. We were pleasantly surprised. The staff was excellent. Everything we ate was of the quality that we would order it again. I often forget about Cheddar's but usually enjoy the meal. The waits are very quick and the service has always been attentive and fast. I don't come here often enough to have a regular, so today I settled on the Monte Cristo sandwich. Is was a bit greasier than it could have been but very tasty. The batter was just sweet enough to compliment the ham but not too sweet enough to make me feel like I was eating a pancake. My favorite part of the meal was the side order of croissants, I'm pretty sure next time I'm going to ask if I can have a croissant salad, with a croissant sandwich, and a croissant dessert chaser. It's the day after Christmas and everyone is out shopping or exchanging. So too, the staff's have been decimated by the Christmas break. The staff is tasked to limit making rounds to buss tables, take orders and serve. Our table was simple duplicate orders. Soup was potato, and arrived Luke warm. Should have been a sign. Dinner arrived and fries were cool, chicken tenders on the salads were cool also. Bumber for the ladies, one wanted to send it back, but wait staff were few and far between. Chicken strips rival the best on town. The Monte christo is unreal! The blackened catfish was off the hook!! (Zing!) The broccoli and cheese casserole is the only side I get, and the honey butter croissants are so awesome. I tried to order just a sheet of them, but the waitress thought I was joking. We ordered the chicken pot pie and chicken fried chicken to-go for dinner. The staff who brought it out promptly upon my checking-in, was very friendly and courteous. The food looked great and so appetizing ... until my first bite. The pot pie was super salty!! I ended up not eating more than a couple of mouthfuls. If this was really scratch-made, then someone is too heavy-handed with the salt. I tried the chicken fried chicken and it was the same thing. The breading on the cutlets were also very salty! Then there was the baked potato soup. Not just salty, but MEGA salty! The steamed broccoli had some seasoning over it and was also salty! You get the theme here?? I have eaten at different Cheddars location in the state and have never had this ultra-seasoning problem before, so I have to surmise that whoever prepped/cooked the food needs to practice more restraint with the salt. You cannot remove it once its in/on the food ... so be judicious and allow the customer to add more if need be. Now I'm stuck with $30+ of food that is inedible. read more

Cheddars used to be a good restaurant to eat at, but the last few months, things have really gone downhill. I'm surprised that the parent company, Darden, hasn't made some changes. The kitchen staff / cooks should all be fired and new ones hired if they could find anyone willing to work. There are always mistakes with carry out orders, because the staff doesn't bother to read the order. This last time we ate in the restaurant and the cheese curd bites appetizer was OK (rather salty on the breading of the salty cheese), and the only sauce they had for them was (salty ranch dressing), so ... Needless to say, too salty to eat. The chicken fried chicken was reheated and burned, then smothered in gravy instead of gravy on the side as asked. The Philly Cheesesteak sandwich had cold meat with reheated and burned onions & peppers making everything on the sandwich taste charred. Then there was a side of cold, unappetizing fries. Had a free coupon for the appetizer, meals were supposedly taken off our bill, had 1 iced tea and 1 water, but still ended up paying almost $18 for food we couldn't eat. Worst restaurant experience in a very long time. Was on business with a colleague and decided to swing into Cheddars for a "comfort food" dinner that was familiar. I ordered chicken tenders with a baked potato with butter only, and steamed broccoli. My colleague ordered the tilapia. Dinner took a very long time to come out, and when we were finally served, my potato had butter, sour cream and cheese. Also, my broccoli looked like they dug it out of last week's garbage. I sent both back and they sent a new (tiny) potato and a new dish of broccoli that looked a little bit better than the first serving. My colleague was enjoying his tilapia until he cut into the end of it and it was raw. Note: raw fish is dangerous. When the waiter came to check on us, we notified him about the fish (he already knew about the potato and broccoli). Shortly after, the manager came to our table and said, "I don't mean to be argumentative, but that broccoli may not look fresh but it's local and the best we can get. We actually dig through what we get and we serve the best of what we get." Scuse me???? I was astounded. My colleague said, "I would think you would be more concerned about raw fish leaving your kitchen. This is a very thin fillet of tilapia and it takes nearly no time to cook it, and it's cold and raw." The manager completely blew him off and walked away. When the waiter returned we told him we were ready to leave, and he brought our checks and had them completely screwed up. My drinks and sides on my co-workers' check, and something of his on mine. We asked that they be fixed. Probably 10-15 minutes later, we finally got the corrected checks. Needless to say, I was astounded that no compensation was offered. Not even a free dessert. Not that I would have wanted to eat any other food from this place at that point, but a gesture of good will would have gone a long way. Nothing. We paid our checks and I made a mental note that I needed to review this Cheddars, because I love the brand and this place gives a great brand a terrible wrap. Shame on you. I continue to give my business to them hoping that their service will change. It has been poor for the past year. The staff does not take their jobs serious, always horse playing in front of the customers at the end of the bar. This last time it took at least 50 minutes to get our food, it was a slow night. I come here all the time, and every time the service and food are outstanding. Their prices are cheaper than some fast food places. This night in particular, we ordered dessert, but it was taking a while to come out. About 15 minutes after ordering it, and without any complaint what-so-ever, the manager came by, apologized about the wait and had the desserts taken off of our ticket! Today I visited Cheddars in Lubbock; a busy day with game 7 of the NBA finals. I decided to sit at the bar, where two bartenders were working (Cody and Dawn). The bar did have a big crowd however, I had no problem finding a seat at the bar to get served. Shortly after sitting down, I was given a menu by Cody and immediately asked what I would like to drink. I asked for a specialty drink which consisted of fireball whiskey. I was actually surprised that they had fireball whiskey in stock since the product is not usually stocked in Texas. When I asked for my special drink Cody had no problem making it. He then ask me what I would like to eat. I ordered the chicken strips with mash potatoes and fresh broccoli. As a starter, I also requested the side Caesar salad. Even with all the customers in the bar Cody had no problems entering my order while simultaneously serving several other guests that was sitting at the bar. When Cody left the bar, his counterpart Dawn took over immediately without skipping a beat and as a team, she also took care of the customers in his absence. After a few minutes, I was brought out my Caesar salad by one of the servers. The presentation was really well complemented with a buttery croissant which was absolutely fabulous. The Caesar salad was crispy and had just the right amount of dressing. After finishing eating my Caesar salad I request another drink. Before my drink was made, my main course came from the kitchen. The meal was then placed in front of me by one of the servers. The presentation was great and everything was proportionate. The meal was served hot an fresh just as expected. After taking a bite of the chicken strips which were very tender I then dipped the chicken strip in the lemon pepper sauce which was brought with the meal. The sauce was just the right flavor to complement chicken. I then took a bite of the mashed potatoes which contained potato skins which is one of my favorites the tasted was just right. Then I took a bite of the broccoli which was crispy and seasoned as expected. Overall, my experience during this visit was phenomenal. The bartenders and servers all exceeded my expectations and went out of thier way make sure that I had a great experience while visiting Cheddars. I would definitely recommend this location in Lubbock to anyone who was in the area visiting. I know that I will revisit this location if I'm ever in town again from Dallas. Good job Cheddars staff! Cheddars is always so reliable be it the service or the food. The only complaint I ever have when coming here is it always seems like its FREEZING! Other than that, their burgers, salads, chicken tenders, all of their sides and appetizers are sooo good. Great prices too. The worst service in Lubbock. The entire experience was horrible. The young, snotty server was extremely rude. The "grilled shrimp" was swimming in a mystery brown sauce & rice. Our party was only 2. Myself & my son, the server never refreshed our drinks, walked past us several times and never spoke. We had a host that was more than accomodating, and a server that was very attentive. Martell was the name of the host and Quan was the server!!!! Next morning my uncle calls cheddars to see if they might have found his debt card, sure enough the Manager Fred had said they kept it from last night & will hold it until we come get. My uncle asked if we (my husband & I) could come grab it bc he was already out of town & Fred said "of course just have him bring his license for proof!" Chose this restaurant for lunch because the parking lot of pretty full. Walked into the restaurant and was transported back to the mid 80's. Watching the food come out of the kitchen I soon realized that I was in Texas: fried and piled high. Eventually ordered the grilled catfish with Southern Green Beans and Cheesy Broccoli Casserole with an un-sweet iced tea. About 5 minutes later, the tea came but I nearly choked on the sweetness when I added a Splenda. About 5 minutes later, I flagged down the waiter and asked him for un-sweet tea. About 5 minutes later it arrived and was right. About 20 minutes later my fish arrived and it was good. As were the green beans as was the steamed broccoli - it was probably better than the cheesy stuff, but who knows. Incredible portion size for price. Great customer service and food came out very fast and correct!! In fact, the gift card I tried to used apparently was the wrong half and either I or the person who gave it to me discarded the correct half....dumb I know, but either way the manager said he'd take care of it and not to be worry! Wow!!! Way more impressive than On the Border here in Lubbock where my husband found a full sized toothpick in the beans and had to pull it out of his mouth and they comped us $.99 for the beans.... Glad he didn't choke, still amazing that he even got it in his mouth in the "perfect bite"! Kudos to the manager for going way above and beyond, completely impressive!
