Came here for Saturday lunch with hubby. My coworker had been raving about this place, so when we were in Athens visiting my in-laws, we stopped by. We each got drinks, which were very yummy. I got the Painkiller, and hubby got a piña colada. He ordered an app, I think fried shrimp? I got the New Orleans pasta, which was okay. I'm Cajun and we don't typically use pasta in our food, so I wasn't expecting authenticity. I was hoping for good taste though, like the Pasta Mardi Gras at Pappadeaux. Then asked if we wanted to wait even longer for a group table. We did not at this point, so we were seated at different booths. One table and seat was wet and the excuse was that it was just cleaned. Who wants a sit in a wet seat and at a wet table? Waited a while for drinks and silverware. Waited about an hour for food. And many guests' food were cold. Stunningly great. My son and I got into Athens at 8 pm on a Sunday night on our way to the Masters. We lucked into going to Cheddars for a late dinner. Our server was super friendly. The prices were very reasonable. We had the BBQ ribs and they were delicious as was the generous, fresh salad and sides, and croissant with honey butter. The food came out in less than 10 minutes and cooked to perfection which was greatly appreciated. This restaurant is in my top 10 spots of all-time. I told my son that if they had one of these near our home near Chicago, I'd be there 2-3 times a week. HIGHLY recommended. read more

I've been here several times and have issues before, like long wait times, undercooked food, etc. We stupidly decided to order their Mother's Day bundle because it seemed like a really good deal and we normally like their chicken Alfredo. Got there before pickup time and was told they were going to have to recook the chicken because it was undercooked. How does a restaurant even undercook chicken? Ridiculous...finally got the food 45 min later and they didn't include the croissants that was supposed to be included. So had to wait another 15 min. The food is cold and bland at best. I traveled to Bulldog country to see in laws and stumbled upon Cheddar's. OMAZING! First off, it's not fancy place that'll charge you $50 for a 12 Oz . Ribeye, my ribeye at Cheddar's was only $14, tasted just the same as Ruth's Chris and my GF had their Monte Cristo, best she ever had. Went to Cheddar's on a Tuesday around 7:10. We ordered our drinks and food within about 3 or 4 minutes. 25 to 30 minutes later, the server breezed by once and said don't worry it's on its way. At this point we realized she forgot to put the order of croissants in as an app and didn't notice my water was at the very edge of the table, hardly touched... It tasted like mildew but she wasn't there long enough to hear me ask for something else to drink... Like I said... Breezed by. She stopped at another table that came in 10 min. after us at least 7 times. I stopped counting once they got their appetizer and a round or two of refills. A lady came in to order take out about 15 min after we arrived. She walked out with her order about 15 minutes later. The busser, poor guy made a prescribed circuit through the restaurant over and over again. He had no tables to bus and looked kind of brainwashed by the boredom. It's easy to watch what's going on when left alone so long. After 45 minutes, we left a 5 on the table for the beer and headed to the door. The manager was hanging out with the hostess and chatting her up at the front door. I told him he might want to cancel our order because we had already waited 45 minutes, but we left money for the beer. He said something about being sorry I wasn't happy, but I didn't stand there to listen. I don't complain about service to get a free meal. I was a server for years... I know the work is tough, but our server didn't seem stressed and was able to take care of her other customers without a hitch. Clearly, she forgot to put our order in. Had the manger been circulating, he would have noticed the length of time we sat there with nothing to eat. This is a corporate restaurant and they have procedures that just weren't being followed by anyone but the brainwashed bus boy. Too bad... I was really looking forward to a monte cristo. My experience at this Cheddar's was terrible. Management does not communicate well to their employees. I spoke to an employee on the phone yesterday and made a reservation for 20 for today. When I came in today, the hostess told us that it would be an hour and a half wait because they don't take reservations on the weekend and because there was a table of 40 before us (this was a lie because when I walked to the back during my wait there was no party of 40 seated).This is ridiculous that we are standing here waiting on a reservation AND a large party that doesn't exist. Not only that, but management did not honor the reservation their employee mistakenly made and the hostess had an attitude as we waited. This is by far my favorite place to dine in Athens! My wife and I come here fairly regularly on weekend nights. The wait time is generally quoted at 30-45 minutes, but we always seem to be seated in a shorter amount of time than that. It has a great steakhouse feel! The hostesses always greet us immediately upon arrival and the service is great! Our server, Brad, is very attentive and very personable! If ever you decide to dine at Cheddar's, I personally would wait a little longer for his section! He is definitely a top notch server! I order the 6oz steak and half rack of baby back ribs every time I come and it is always absolutely delicious! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who is swinging through Athens! read more

Absolutely horrible experience. My parents are in town from New York, and we wanted to give anew casual place a try. It took a few minutes to seat the four of us, no big deal. An employee "couldn't find our waitress," so she volunteered to take our drink and food orders. 3 of 4 drinks were correct, but 75% is not significant enough to complain about. After a few minutes the waitress came and said she was late because her last table had been difficult. We sat in the booth for 30 minutes, asked someone about our food, and waited some more. After 45 minutes, we asked again, and the person said they "didn't know where our waitress was." After 57 minutes and no food, we left. The one star is for the excellent strawberry lemonade. The ribs were great except for the fact that there were small bone pieces throughout like they with no care just been chopped, asked for a medium steak got a well done steak, no big deal I work in the restaurant biz so i told the waitress please get me med steak she said she will send the chef out I said that's okay chef came out I said no problem it's all good then I had to leave for business by the way had a family of three with me so had to get recook on steak to go,.... The place is so clean and very nice, I've gone twice since opening and came very close to closing time, since its not packed at that time and the staff was very friendly each time. Food is great, the portions are so big you can share one meal or you know you'll need a ToGo box. The only thing that kept it from being a 5 star was the kitchen is way to close to the bathroom and that hallway had a sour smell, like they used a cleaning product that didn't take well to kitchen and bath odors combine... I have been to Cheddar's twice now and both times the service has been horrible. The first time we were seated quickly and got our appetizer but after sitting for 50mins. The waiter and manager approach our table apologizing the waiter forgot to put our order in. We had to leave as we were picking up my daughter at 9:00. We got there at 7:00. The manager was very apologetic and rushed our food out but we didn't have time to eat it. She gave us the meal and a gift card for a return visit. All was ok we understood mistakes happen. Until just before we left the table the waiter said "hey at least I got you free food". Really? If I couldn't pay I wouldn't have come in. Flash forward 3wks later we return to give it another try in the hopes it would be better WRONG!! We waited 45mins to get a table and an additional 40mins for our food. To top all that off the waitress literally put the check down at the same time as the our food. My daughter put her card out to pay and she took the bill rang it out and checked out. Never came back to see if we needed refills or condiments or anything. We had to chase her down for to go boxes. I approached the manager as we were leaving and all she could say was we always have 40min ticket times. She had every excuse in the book for the waitresses poor service and when I told her I wouldn't be returning she acted as if she didn't care. Needless to I'll be calling the corporate office first thing Monday. If you don't have hours to wait for a seat and your food don't bother. The food is ok but for that kinda wait which according to the manager is their normal I expect the food to be amazing. I won't waste my time going there again. read more

We had lunch on July 4th, which was pretty good with coffee. During lunch we asked for a coffee refill. When we received our bill, they charged us for 4 coffees. I'm a regular at a Cheddars in Dallas, so I brought my in-laws in to a recently opened location in Athens. Usual quality of food is great, and I would recommend the chain for get togethers. But our visit to this location was substandard. Two of our party ordered the Spaghetti Lasagna, one of my favorites. But when the food came out, one order was half the size of the other. Granted it was 9:30 on a Sunday night, with a very empty restaurant, but I just couldn't figure this one out. When I asked the server about this, she went to the kitchen to get an answer for me. She came back with, "Both orders have a different pasta to cheese ratio. The other order has more pasta (looks like it's supposed to) and we gave you more cheese to offset the pasta you didn't get. Yup, hardly no pasta in my order. No manager interaction, just an educated guess why they were different. Bad answer!! read more

Here we go again, unfortunately as much I love this place it really does seem like lately Cheddars is a hit or miss restaurant. This time I decided to go on a Sunday afternoon around 4:20PM. When I walked in, I noticed it was not busy because there were many tables open. The party of two we had, we ordered appetizers and an entree. A common occurrence happened to us again, we received one entree before the appetizers came out. As my other guest received her entree, I patiently waited for the appetizers. Our waiter said the typical "I'm sorry." I noticed that a party of six were seated outside near us because I saw them through the window. They ordered their appetizers and got it way before us! Another common flaw that Cheddars need to work on. When you see another table get seated way after you and get their food faster , it is so frustrating. Our waiter came back and said she didn't know what's up but they are preparing the "cheese bites." Please , it doesn't take that long to prepare microwaves cheese bites . Cheddars need to work on prioritizing each table, and learning how to send the appetizers before the entree as this has happened to us before. I have raved about this place to my husband for a year and a half. Finally we get a chance to go. The first nice out to eat dinner we have had in such a long time. We order around 5:15 on a Friday. Our appetizer is spinach dip which was really good but hard on top. We both ordered steak with loaded baked potatoes. He ordered a salad and I ordered broccoli. Cheddar's has discontinued 1000 Island, French, and one other common dressing. I suggested homey mustard for my husband. It was very strong with mustard flavor and he didn't care for it. Then the waitress comes out to tell us they ate out of baked potatoes but they had loaded mashed potatoes. My husband gets that and I just order a salad. Salad was ok except the croutons were so stale and hard that I couldn't even bite them with my back teeth. His mashed potatoes were cold and wouldn't melt the cheese or butter. Our steaks had good flavor but mine was so tough, I had to stab it with mu fork just to pick it up. Our waitress was very nice. We don't like to send food back, so we didn't mention it to her. Not sure what the problem was tonight. Obviously people like Cheddar's because they were out the door waiting to get in. read more
