The food was wonderful, but the server accidentally charged another party's bill to my credit card and it took over 30 minutes to correct. Meanwhile, the restaurant manager never even offered any consideration for our inconvenience. It will be a while, if ever, before we go back. I'm so sorry others haven't had the experience I did the two times I've gone here. The hostesses were polite. They said it'd be fifteen minutes before we could be seated, and it was around ten. Our server each time was super nice and catered to our every need. They have a Monte Cristo sandwich, which I haven't had since Bennigan's was on Alps Rd. It was such a good sandwich!! The accompanying fries were hot and crisp. Their sweet tea is so good!! My friend got pasta the second visit, and although it wasn't as flavorful as I'd have liked, it was good. Loved it! Menu is diverse, but not to the point where your looking over it for 10 minutes. Place is always very busy. Go early for lunch or dinner, it doesn't matter what day it is the place is packed. The other alternative is to go later around 9pm, they are open till 11pm most nights. Hello Foodies! This place is the only place I know of that has the "Monte Cristo". this is everything that is bad for you all rolled up into one delicious sandwich. Ham and Turkey sliced with cheese dipped in egg batter, fried, then sprinkled in powdered sugar with Jelly for dipping, Trust me when I tell you This can not be missed! Ribs and Steak were great!it was a game night in Athens when we went. They ran out of baked potatoes they did not tell me this they just brought me French fries and mashed and did not say anything. When I asked my server she went I suppose to ask someone what happened, she returned 9 minutes later and said " Sorry we ran out of Baked potatoes" OK?.........WTF??? Whatever! Decided to check our Cheddar's a week ago. 2 couples on a Sunday afternoon, after 3pm. It was not terribly crowded, we timed our visit after the Sunday hordes. We ordered and the potato skin starters came out immediately. I didn't think they were great but we were starving so - Then we waited for our mains. And waited. And waited - while three tables that came after us were served. We finally asked the waitress for help. Suddenly 2 of our 4 meals came out - very cold. 15 minutes later came the other 2. The waitress offered to make fresh versions of the first two but we said no thanks. 15 minutes later fresh meals came out anyway but by that time everyone was finished eating. Waitress said manager was coming. 10 minutes later he did. Very nice guy who apologized profusely but the experience had been totally ruined. They comp'd us on the 2 meals but I would have rather have just gotten what we ordered in a reasonable time. Kudos to management for trying to put it right but it wasn't enough for me to go back again. Good luck. read more

We were here at 2:00 on a Sunday. They had run out of slaw and Caesar salad. The soup was warm but not hot which was pretty consistent throughout the meal. The sweet potato was only partly cooked. The chicken fried steak was only passable. Go to Cracker Barrel if you want this type of food at a similar price. read more

I was so excited to come into this Cheddar's since I haven't eaten at Cheddar's since I've moved to Athens from Iowa in August. Came into the restaurant maybe 5 minutes after 9 and got seated, nobody even came to the table for 15 minutes, actually, no one ever even came to our table. I saw a waitress in the same section looking after other tables but completely ignoring us. We saw numerous waitresses walk by without any acknowledgment. If this is how you treat guests here, I never want to come to this Cheddar's again. We left very disappointed and don't plan on returning. Maybe you should teach your employees to serve all of your customers equally despite what time it may be. Definitely not very fond of people dining within the last hour of being open. read more

Like every new restaurant, you will have plenty of mistakes and adjustments as they get into the groove of things. This is a great restaurant and great food! The waiting times have decreased now but if you are looking for less wait then go during the week night. I think all the happy customers forget to come a post a good review so I want to do that. I think it is a great atmosphere and friendly staff. The food prices and drinks are too good to pass up. Definitely recommend everybody trying it out! Ribs are my favorite here! Love them! read more

We arrived about 3:30pm on Tuesday. We were seated in the bar area. There was one other table with two people. Our waiter Michael L was helpful with menu choices. We got our appetizer very qiuckly. Then, we waited and waited and waited. Finally our entrees were served. I ordered Dijon mustard chicken. The waiter apologized for the delay, said chief had to make Dijon mustard. One of my sides was steamed broccoli,.never did get that side. Waiter did bring a broccoli casserole while I waited for steamed broccoli, didn't like it. Very disappointed. We have been there many times. We probably will not return. read more

Not a lot to tell. 4 of us went to eat on a Saturday night, They told us no wait in the bar area so we went there to sit. It took a while for the server to greet us, they were busy so we expected that. We ordered couple of bar beverages and regular beverages, Bar beverages took about 20 minutes to get, regular beverages didn't arrive until about 35 minutes (server used the excuse they only had one bartender, but there were three people making drinks). We ordered one appetizer, then ordered salads and entrees. We are now an hour and a half in and the entrees arrive. No appetizer and no salads. We hadn't seen the server since taking the food order. We let the food runner know about appetizer, salads, no silverware, missing sides and regular beverages. About 15 minutes later the server decided to come by to see if we were interested in desserts. We hadn't even made it into the entree's yet. We expressed our disappointment and lack of items. By the time we had finished with the entree, one of the salads came out. Keep in mind these problems were all caused by the bartender and kitchen staff. Some food under cooked, not addressed, the horrible lack of service, not addressed, so many problems not addressed. You might wonder why we stayed the whole time. Me and my wife were servers/bartenders/managers at restaurants before, it was Saturday night, busy, we kept trying to give the server and restaurant a chance to redeem itself. But not once did the manager, if there is one come to the table. The server never tried to make up for the problems by being better. What topped it off was when he dropped of the check, he made it sound as if he was doing us a favor by not charging us for the food we never received. One or two issues I could over look but because it was so epic of a failure, but not just our table; the same server was heard making the same excuses to two other tables. I had to write this review. For a relatively new restaurant, this place was filthy. Tables were dirty, benches had greasy fingerprints and food all over them. Never saw a manager but I did see a lot of people just wondering around not doing anything. Laziest busboys I've ever seen. Our waitress was very good and attentive, but after placing our order we waited 45 minutes for our food. The food was good as always. But it makes me wonder with the place being so nasty. The manager needs to be fired and get somebody there that knows how to run a restaurant Ok so the review above was from 7/2016. We were in the area and decided to give it another try. The food is good, the service and cleanliness was the issue. So we want in and we're right away. The hostess just thru the menus on the table and walked off. Anyway the waiter came pretty quick and we got our drinks and food much faster then before. Mmm all good right ? Had to ask for silverware when we got it had never been washed. I don't mean it had spots, it had food on it!! Nasty. We had to ask for drink refills after our waiter walked by our table 3 times Our empty glasses were sitting on the edge of the table.... waiting. Manager even walked by, looked and kept walking We had to ask for the check, even after I put my card on the table next to my empty glass. We decided to never go back .... ever But that's not why I writing a review again I took not left overs home in a box in a bag. Straight from bag to microwave and started eating. The food is really great and for great value too and the drinks are great, I would normally give this four or five stars. However recently after frequenting this location many many times they stated they do not accept the vertical I.D's even though both me and my girlfriend are 22, and both of our I.D's expire next year and you have to pay to switch them prematurely. Not only is it bad business, but losing a customer for most of the year is not good, it also means they are losing alcohol money which adds up. So basically go there if you've got a sideways card, apparently that's some magical meaning and dates mean nothing anymore. read more

I have never wrote a yelp review before but the service pushed me to the edge. I can say with certain I will never go back here. Food can only do so much to make up for horrible service. The good: taste and portions. That was it. Now for the bad. We ordered our food at 9:35, and over an hour later it finally came out at 10:43. The waitress never told us why our food was taking so long, and never even apologized for the insane wait despite minimal customers present. We finally asked and she only replied, it is on the way. Additionally, never once did the waitress ask how our food was or even refilled the water despite my glass being empty. As soon as we got our food, she instantly gave us the check. To top it all off, I asked to speak to the manager and the manager never came after waiting at minimum 10 minutes. After mixed reviews we decided to give it a try. It was pretty busy for a mid afternoon but we got right in. The spinach dip was great. My wife had the monte cristo which was fanatic. Went for a later Lunch and the service was horrible! The server was absent after taking our drink order. Once she finally got back to us, in a not so busy place, but tons of staff walking about, we placed our order and the wait began. We must have waited close to half an hour with no news that the kitchen was slammed or even an update. The food when it got there was was pitiful. My 'Grilled fish' was breaded and fried tacos. These were barely warm and flavorless too boot! My wife's Medium Rare steak was close to Well done and the pasty, obviously not fresh mashed potatoes were basically inedible and the veggie side was so over cooked that it would not stay on a fork without falling off. My mother in law's burger seemed to be fine, but the fries were under cooked, frozen mush. Scratch made? Not this place. This was a definite One and Done for us anyone who asks about this place. We would have sent items back, but we were hoping to see a movie and could not chance the extremely long wait time again! read more

Then waited a very, very long time for our food. Some waiting even left. When the food finally came, they brought the salad with my meal, not before as it should have been. I had all that time to wait I could have had my salad. Others ordered second drinks when the meals came and it took a long time to get them there. Would have been nice to have with the meal. Then had to ask 3 times to get a to go box to take the food I didn't get to eat because my fellow diners had long since finished their meals while I was having my salad. The food was good for a chain. I had the fish tacos and my companion had the vegetable plate, which is any four of their sides plus a hot buttered croissant. The sides were steamed broccoli (came unseasoned), fries, apples and yogurt (tasted like a cold apple pie, delicious) and homemade black beans. All were good besides the broccoli, which was fine after hitting it with salt and pepper. All that said, the high rating is based mostly on the service we received. Upon entering (at 12:45pm on a Thursday) we were told that it would be a 15 minute wait for a normal table. The manager suggested we go into the bar area, where hightop tables are first-come-first-serve, and there was one open for us. He turned out to be mistaken. When we told him there were no hightops available he apologized profusely and immediately sat us at a booth. We were very satisfied with this service. I love Cheddar's. My husband and I go to eat there at least every other month just as a special treat. It can get quite crowded on the weekends, so plan to go on a regular weeknight. I recommend the Quesada it's delicious! We have had no trouble with the wait staff so far. read more

My family and I were very disappointed with the food last night. We had a party of 7, and half of the food came out 10 minutes before the other half. Then when we got everything it was cold. My father in laws steak looked like a burnt piece of rubber and his baked potato came way after his steak. It is sad because we usually love Cheddars! On the plus side our server was very nice and accommodating. After bringing me my rare steak when I asked for medium, him and the manager took it off our bill. Needless to say, I won't be going back for awhile. I hope things change and get better. Especially since I heard Darden is taking over. read more
