Ordered the queso... we got plenty of chips , queso and salsa! Iced tea is brewed fresh! Yum! Had the Dijon chicken n mushrooms. The chicken was so tender!!! I got a FULL breast. Both sides. U usuAlly get half!! ! So it was with some. Rice. All melted in my mouth. Had a Caesar salad. Wonderful. Nice size.. but coulda used more dressing!!! We had the incredible like as air cressents with our meal... u could fight over those so easy!!!! U get four. We could eat a dozen each!!! And you could too!!! They are outa this world!!! The other party.. had a nice sirloin steak. Corn n broccoli n cz casserole... he told me... they put more cz in the casserole then even u do honey!!! Oh my!!! He lived it. The drive across the eastern New Mexico desert went by quickly enough, and lo and behold we found ourselves in Texas - as for me it was my first appearance on the ground in the USA's second largest state by area since a business trip to Austin in 1998. While the state's panhandle looks small on a map, it is still close to 170 miles west-to-east, and by the time we reached Amarillo in the center, it was time for lunch. As those familiar with the former nation know, Texas is unusual with respect to its frontage roads - for most other states the typical exit is a 45 degree jaunt off the freeway, to be greeted by a traffic light or stop sign, and then the decision to go left or right (although, oddly enough the worldwide ubiquitous traffic circle is becoming more common with the passage of time - perhaps research has shown these to be a bit more efficient and/or safer). But here, the typical exit throws you onto a one-way viaduct, so if you want to turn around, you most likely have to wait for an over/undercrossing, and deal with an additional series of lights. So, when my wife saw a shopping center, later determined to be Westgate Mall, after we had passed it, I chose not to turn around. Unfortunately it resulted in the food options becoming bleaker and bleaker as we progressed (i.e. Pizza Hut, China Star, Golden Corral). The missus became increasingly impatient, and I increasingly stubborn as we progressed eastward. Finally, we saw a mini-mall featuring Olive Garden and this locale, and we elected to pull over. The initial scene wasn't very promising. For one thing it was freaking hot! When we entered the restaurant we found ourselves amongst what appeared to be scores of folks that had just been let out of church, and eager to get their food jones on. Wait time seemed to be indeterminable. Fortunately we were given the option of sitting at a high table, and we elected to exercise that. Given that I wasn't very hungry, I elected for a low calorie salmon-and-rice dish, which performed its assigned duty - give me something to munch on without being too dangerous. Wife had a chicken salad, which she said was decent. Waitress was reasonable without being overly pushy, cost was not outrageous, and we were entertained by a quintet of golden girls ordering a plate full of gigantic onion rings. Has been a few years since I last ate at Cheddars; today stopped for the first time at this location. Easy access of I-40, plenty of parking is available. Atmosphere and decor is always nice, like the vertical ceiling fan that is present on all the properties I've visited over the years. I was sad to learn the Shepherd's pie is no longer available in the menu-I really liked this one. I settled on their "Spasagna" with marinara-should have ordered with meat sauce instead but didn't. My friend ordered the catfish and she was very pleased with it. The Spasagna was Ok, not great. Made out of spaghetti "bound" with cheese and covered with sauce. Again Ok, not great but you may like it. The sides were also ok. Unfortunately, had no space for desert today. I wasn't expecting gourmet food of course, so for casual eating with good service and reasonable price, is still a good choice. read more

Wow what a mistake. Scratch Kitchen the new con job from Cheddar's. Same menu same poor quality food. There is nothing that is made from scratch here that one can see, or taste. Ordered the chicken fried steak the breading inside was like a pasty glue for wallpaper. Why am I surprised ? Stopped eating here over 2 yrs ago due to the food quality thought I would give it another opportunity. This was the third time I have ordered carryout and it has never been correct. Ordered Lemon Pepper Chicken, no seasoning at all, not even salt and pepper. Steak was crispy instead of medium. One of the best and most consistent dinning spots in Amarllo. Never had bad service or a bad meal there until Christmas eve. Maybe their best employees were off and that is justifiable at Christmas. Food was below par and waiter did not write our order down. His memory failed him and many parts of our order had to be changed because it wasn't right. We were driving home to Denver from Houston and needed to stop and get dinner. From the moment we sat at our table our server was friendly, kind, and fun. We ordered our food and to our surprise out came an extra appetizer our server said it was a gift to us. So sweet and thoughtful, even better he sat and talked to us about our beloved Broncos! We felt like family! My steak came out a tad over cooked no problem a new one arrived cooked perfectly and our server took care of part of our bill because of it! Amazing service Amazing food! As I was eating my salad today, I bit into something hard and it hurt. I began spitting out small pieces of glass. There was a small piece of a broken glass in my salad. I had to go to the ladies room to get the rest out and check to see if I had damaged any teeth. I know I swallowed a small piece as well. I informed my server Danny of the situation. He apologized. After 5 minutes, he brought over the manager, Cody. Danny let me know some glasses had broken near the salad bar and a piece must have gotten in my salad. They threw out the rest of the salads, but that sure didn't help me. Cody apologized but did NOTHING. I was not asked if I was okay. I was not asked anything. I was with two clients on a business trip. This was so embarrassing and I did not feel I could create a scene in front of my colleagues, but I was hurting and very upset The salads were removed from our bill, but the bill was not comped. I do not feel anything was done to fix this situation. I swallowed a piece of glass... Seriously! Update: General Manager Keith has reached out several times. He has profusely apologized and went out of his way to make this situation right. While the situation was still awful, Keith has made me feel like an actual human being. So we arrive around 4:30 to be told there's a 10-15 minute wait (there are very few people in the restaurant at this hour). We order food, waiter was very nice, order onion rings appetizer, just a few more minutes, just a few more minutes, to get lukewarm rings. My salad was never brought until I reminded him when he brought the meal. I've been hearing marvy things about their sister location in Lubbock. I took my daughter, son in law and grandson out to visit Friday (7-6-12). The interior was nice.Huge fishtank in the wall. The tables were terribly close together. NO privacy so I wouldn't recommend this place if you wanted to actually talk to the other person. The waitress (Maci) was a complete wet noodle. No smile from her, no pleasant chit chat that most waitstaff have. She frowned the entire time we were there. I told her how I wanted my steak (literally, walk the cow past the grill on the way to the table, cold in the middle, very very rare). I got a medium rare steak. I sent it back which displeased little miss Maci. The kitchen manager actually came out and asked if I understood how I was ordering my steak...mmm..yes, that's how I eat d it. English is my first language. I didn't stutter. I didn't use ASL. I even offered to sign a waiver for him releasing the restaurant from any damages should I get sick from eating my steak the way I ordered it. I finally got my steak (Texas Roadhouse and Sutphens in Borger have waayy better steaks than Cheddars). Said manager then walked by 3 times as I was eating my steak! The steak knives were dull. I mean I would've been better off gnawing it offa my fork. The honey butter croissants were ok. Messy. Wetnaps would've been nice to have had. Oh and this place charges for the extra bread. My daughter ordered a pasta dish with garlic bread. I swear the garlic bread was Pepperidge Farms. And my iced tea wasn't refilled until I had reached the bare bottom and was munching on the ice. All in all, I'll stick with Calico County, Cracker Barrel or even WIlly's next door. I can spend my money and time on better food, less attitude and funner atmosphere elsewhere. read more

Good service. Pretty busy! Liked the chicken tenders, fresh and tastes like they were made there, not frozen.

To start off, I will say that it was a Sunday, therefore it was busy. Ok, so it took 30 mins after ordering just to get our drinks. JUST to get our drinks. When the food came, it was poor. I ordered the chicken fried steak, which was disappointing. I love chicken fried steak, but this was sadly some thin piece if meat surrounded by A LOT of dry batter. The desert was good, better than my main dish. Our waitress was nice, and our service was not bad, and the food was actually fair priced. In the end though, the food (or at least mine) wasn't good and I couldn't even finish it. Hopefully it's better next time, if I ever decide to come back. read more

One of our favorites in Amarillo! Very family friendly, clean and inviting. Haven't had a bad meal here yet! There blackened red fish sandwich is awesome! So is the Philly! The hostess is always very chipper and genuine. Ever server we've had has been knowledgeable and attentive. This is our go to for family night! There el patron mixed drink is my fave :) strawberry lemonade is yummy! And the monster cookie for dessert was on point! read more

Steak was good ribs were dry. The beer was very warm and tons of head when pored. Asked bartender what the tap temp was and I was told -22. I looked at her and asked how is beer liquid at -22. Ok Cheddars has always been one of my favorites and have never had a bad meal till TODAY. Had the lunch special of bowl of soup, the baked potato soup is always great. Then choose the new patty melt sandwich which was awful. First it goes on rye bread NOT sourdough. The patty was like one you would get on a $1 burger at Mc Donald's, really poor choice guys. The onions were not even close to being carmelized. Overall not something I would have again and either make it right or not at all folks. No fries or chips just pickles, going cheap are we? My husband and I stopped in on our way back to Dallas. We sat in the bar, and I'll be honest, it was pretty filthy. I was not thrilled about resting my arms on the table. We ordered the half rib/half fried chicken meal. The chicken was fried pretty well and had a nice flavor, the ribs were good - though not my personal preference in terms of flavor but my husband really enjoyed them. The corn we got with it.. was soupy and obviously came from a can. So gross. We also had some crossiant appetizer that came with it. It was good, but very sweet and came with a TON of butter on it. Just meh.. this meal was not that great. I don't know why they even have "scratch kitchen" in their name because it did not taste like anything but the chicken was made fresh. Wow, was this place was packed when we arrived! It felt like church had let out and everyone agreed to meet here. It was a good sign that my husband and I were in for some good eats. We decided to eat on the high top tables in the bar to avoid the long wait and were served quite promptly. I had a very large chicken salad and my husband enjoyed an Asian-inspired salmon dish with rice. What we found, in addition to great food and service, that the people watching here is fantastic! We saw a group we dubbed "The Golden Girls" receive a very impressive high stack of onion rings while another table dressed up to the nines while eating with their hands like cave folk. Probably without a doubt the worst not from scratch chicken fried steak I have ever had bar none. Looked like it came out of a TV dinner box and they dumped some gravy on it with a little thin slice of soybean burger in the middle. I got my drink at the end of my meal because the waitress never came back to check on me during the meal, she showed up with the ticket then I asked for my drink. Cheddar's - 9:00pm - 1.2.15 We met up with a couple friends after work today, and they suggested Cheddar's being that they stay open until 11pm. Trav and I showed up right before 9 and we got a booth right away. The two girls at the hostess stand were very friendly. Our server (didn't get her name) did a good job keeping drinks filled and she checked on us several times. Trav and I shared the onion rings app while we waited for our friends, and I decided to try the Moonshine Mary (Bloody Mary made with shine instead of vodka). It was really good and strong! It is made with Zing Zang, which is my FAVORITE of all pre made Bloody Mary mixes. The onion rings were very good, served HOT and it was a huge portion! They were battered (not breaded) which gave them a wonderfully crisp and flaky crust - not at all like the thick, Chunky breading that some places use. The Cajun dipping sauce was yummy and it tasted a LOT like the sauce served with the Bloomin Onion at Outback, which I LOVED. Our friends showed up and ordered the chips, queso and salsa with ground beef. I didn't try it, but the boys commented that though they were skeptical, the appetizer was actually really good. For our entrees, the friends ordered a Smokehouse burger and the Monte Cristo. Travis ordered the Tilapia and Shrimp and I had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and corn. Travis said that his entree was just ok. He enjoyed the mango salsa and wished there had been more. He said that the coleslaw was the best thing on his plate, and he just wasn't too impressed with it. My chicken fried steak entree was just not good at all... The steak itself was about 1/4" thin and the breading was just waaaaaay too thick, plus there was anywhere from 1"-2" empty breading shell around the entire steak. The steak itself had no seasoning whatsoever and it also tasted sort of like boiled meat... I call it "wet dog flavor" - if you know the flavor I'm talking about, yuck. The "Texas Toast" was a slice of thick white bread that was hardly toasted and only on one side. Gravy was pretty pasty and salty but that was the only flavor on the plate so it didn't hurt the overall seasoning level. Luckily the mashed potatoes and the corn were fairly good, otherwise I would have sent the plate back for lack of food. No, I didn't send it back. For one thing, by the time our friends arrived and the food was out, I'm sure the kitchen was almost completely shut down. Second, it was a $10 entree and based on my previous experiences at Cheddar's, I really didn't expect a whole lot. By the end of our meal, our server was a little scattered (closing, I'm sure) but she didn't really clear our empty dishes (a pet peeve of mine because if there is a mess on the table it WILL end up all over my clothing) and the table was uncomfortably cluttered until the moment we left. I give it a C -. Passing, but nothing to write home about. Cheddar's will probably continue to be the type of place we only end up when it's suggested by someone else. read more

Probably to many this would be a small thing. Many times the meal here has gone without a hitch. However this time was not the case. I usually get the waitstaff to bring limes for the tea rather than lemons. This time he couldn't see any possible way to accomplish this.
