I've driven by this place what feels like a million times but never stopped because the shopping center always looks like it has no parking. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Cheba Hut is a cannabis-themed sub shop eatery, and parking ended up being manageable. The place was very busy when I arrived, so I grabbed a seat at the bar. The bartender was clearly juggling a lot but stayed friendly and personable. The place was super clean, and I immediately loved the laid-back neighborhood vibe near Roosevelt Row. I ordered the French dip sub along with a munchie- pretzel nugs. Cheba offers three sandwich sizes (Nug, Pinner, and Blunt), which makes ordering easy depending on your appetite. Everything came out fresh and flavorful, and the pretzel mugs were especially good, soft and salty, Parking here is a little more limited than some other locations, but overall I really enjoyed my first visit and was happy to learn there are multiple Cheba Hut locations around town. Good afternoon, I made a trip into Phoenix to stop by and say hello to some of my employee colleagues after retiring 2 1/2 years ago, had a great time visiting with some of the guys who were done for the day, as I was leaving Alan one of the guys I trained before leaving wanted to take me to lunch, so we headed over to Cheba Hut, Alan wanted to do the ordering so I let him do all the leg work, well he order us both the 12in White Widow and it didn't disappoint, it was filled with bacon, grilled Chicken, and all the other fixings that make a Hot Sub Good. I'd say the business has plenty of seating inside and some outside tables as well, we arrived a bit before lunch time and the place was starting to get busy and as I've always said that's a good sign. The Ambiance of the sandwich shop is done very nice with a cool vibe. So many people, friends family tell me about CHeBA HUT so thankfully after CPR training there was one nearby so I finally went to check it out. I got the Kali Mist and another sandwich forgot name but it was chicken with marinara and cheese kind of like a meatball sub but with chicken I also got a drink and a chocolate chip cookie. I have to say the ambience was pretty chill the decorations of course is all marijuana related. I ordered for pick up so the service was really quick In and out. Such a uniquely weedy ambiance with lots of hilarious references to pot culture. The sandwiches are unlike any you would get anywhere else; very unique and tasty. I normally love Cheba hut- but my experience the other day wasn't the best here. I placed a phone order and the lady on the phone had a pretty rude tone. Seemed to be having a bad day. They said on the phone it shouldn't take long, and I get there 15 minutes after placing the order and still had to wait another 10 mins for my food. Then when I get my sandwich I head to my car and check to make sure everything's right, and they forgot the avocado on my Kali mist. The reason I get the Kali Mist is because of the avocado. So I walk back in with my sandwich and the lady looks at me and says "whats wrong with it" and I told her there's no avocado. They then give me this container with the 2 smallest pieces of avocado. Not just because their locations are in the Southwest, but because their offerings are so unique, so wild west, freeform in many ways, and not to mention unique. Yes, there are a lot of sandwich and sub places to choose from in the Valley, but none so unique onto itself as Cheba Hut. In their website introduction they declare "a feast spot for all sun spotted heathens, nerds, musicians, collectors and all weirdos of all types skunky!", but in reality, anyone, including 'normal' people, will find the sub selections, bizarre names, distinctive ingredient combinations, the stores' aesthetics, the Bohemian staff and service a wonderful and all-around superb experience. When I walk into my fave location, I go back in time to a moment in my early years where Hippies roamed and avantgarde was my convention. Not to mention, the incredible subs are amazing. No one can walk away without having a fave or two! With so many offerings, with eats like Jamaican Red, Kali Mist, Panama Red, Magic Mushroom, Apollo 13, the 5-0, KGB or the AK-47 one takes their own transcendental eating trip not on drugs but in the ingredients therein!
