I have to admit that I have a HUGE crush on Chase Field, the Diamondbacks, and together, what they've brought to Phoenix and to my life. BACKGROUND Few structures are as integral to the overall history and economic vitality of Phoenix as Chase Field, formerly known as Bank One Ballpark. Although truly hoping that the project would be a success, I remember being very skeptical of the whole process. As a baseball park located in Downtown Phoenix, home to the popular Arizona Diamondbacks (a Major League Baseball franchise), Chase Field has been drawing in tourists, sports fans, and local residents for community comradery since 1998 when it first opened its doors. Built during a wave of new, baseball-only parks during America's 1990, park designers wanted to find a way to make the stadium hospitable given the constant temperatures common in Phoenix, known as America's hottest city. With average temperatures at 99.1 degree Fahrenheit during the season, temperatures had been clocked at over 100 degrees during the summer practice months. Too dangerous to risk heat exhaustion in the Phoenix weather, that's where the ingenious retractable roof idea came into play through intuitive architectural design. More than just a simple stadium, Chase Field was actually the first stadium in the United States to be built with a retractable roof over a natural-grass playing surface. Although other stadiums have since copied the structure, Chase Field is an architectural victory that required years of planning and perfecting by local talent. Also the first stadium to feature natural grass within the retractable roof structure, which had only ever been done in Canada, Chase Field was in international news for the remainder of the season. Construction began in 1996, and was completed just in time for the Diamondbacks' first season to begin. Estimated to cost $279 million in 1995, the stadium went over budget, causing it to come with a final price tag of $364 million. All in all, the stadium construction timeline was able to stay on track, with no major setbacks thwarting the opening. Today, the stadium resides in the Maricopa County Stadium District. Our family had season tickets for the first few years, and therefore we went regularly. Those were the days of teal and purple, and even the colors choice made me wonder about their future success. I was at the game in 1998, when Sammy Sosa became the first player in Cubs history to hit grand slams in back-to-back games, which was his 41st home run that kept him within four home runs of Mark McGwire. Chase Field was famously home to Games 1, 2, 6, and 7 of the 2001 World Series between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the New York Yankees. Although I was away at Medical School that season, that series meant everything to our country in general, to Phoenix, and to my family specifically. I watched the last game of the series with my family on the phone. The 2001 World Series gave hope to a world that was experiencing despair from 9/11. Winning all four games, the Diamondbacks emerged victorious, denying the New York Yankees a fourth consecutive championship. It was the first time in a decade the Diamondbacks had clinched the championship, enlivening the city and putting Phoenix on the map for travelers and baseball fans for years to come. Last year, I went to the playoffs, and for the first time, I tried the All-You-Can-Eat seats. I was determined to set some hot dog eating records; sadly, I could only eat four. We always have a fantastic time, regardless of where we sit. There's not a bad seat in the house. The staff has ALWAYS been EXCEPTIONAL. CONCLUSION Today, Chase Field is a popular tourist destination in the city of Phoenix, opening new restaurants within the structure this year that boast a variety of tastes and cultures. ***Seeing a baseball game indoors is what makes Chase Field unique and worth a visit; the actual stadium, food and amenities are like some of the more boring new stadiums like Nationals Park and Turner Field*** Chase Field was the first indoor baseball stadium I ever visited. Watching a baseball game indoors definitely has a unique feel. The stadium sounds different and everything feels closer too. A lot of these indoor stadiums utilize big windows that provide an inside-but-outside feel that is probably far from what many think they would get with indoor stadiums given the more closed-in stadiums that a lot of people are familiar with like the Astrodome. An indoor baseball stadium is definitely unique and worth a visit though my second experience did not feel as special as my first visit here. Part of it was just that the uniqueness of being at an indoor stadium kind of wore off. Another part was that I visited Minute Maid Park after that first trip to Chase Field and Minute Maid Park goes one better than Chase Field by combining the uniqueness of an indoor stadium with a great look that is inspired by the history of Houston. Chase Field has an okay look but just not a special one. There are a few nice touches here and there like the pool in the outfield. Seating is comfortable too. I felt it was occasionally difficult to track the ball when fly balls were hit. In terms of food, the noticeable advantage of Chase Field is the presence of a value menu. The value menu features hot dogs, corn dogs, popcorn, soft drinks, and beer (a lot of the items are $1.50 each). The value can be misleading though. If you just want to get a taste of something like popcorn, it is a decent deal, but portion sizes for most of these items tend to be small. One of the surprising things about the food at Chase Field is the lack of local (or at the very least) regional food, which so many of the new baseball stadiums feature. Most of the food at Chase Field is from national (or large) chains like Fatburger, Panda Express, Friday's, and Cold Stone Creamery. Chase Field is not a big stadium so there are not a lot of things to do within the stadium, but it is a nice enough and interesting enough stadium to walk around and explore before the game. Chase Field is a good but not great baseball stadium. What makes it most interesting is the fact that it is indoors. In terms of the stadium itself, the food and the things to do, it is more similar to the okay but not that interesting new baseball stadiums like Nationals Park and Turner Field than the great new, attractive and fun stadiums like PNC Park, Busch Stadium and Great American Ballpark. Parking around Chase Field is okay. Parking rates are not particularly cheap, but you can get close to the stadium and it is not that difficult to get out after the game. read more

Great experience at Chase Field! Watched a Dodgers vs. D-Backs game and we were not disappointed! An evening game in the heat of summer wasn't bad as the AC was on and everyone was comfortable with the open sky above to enjoy the stars and planes flying over. Concessions have plenty to choose from and stores for merchandise are all over. Next time I'm in the Phoenix area I'll definitely be lookin at a schedule to see if I can catch another game. read more

I'm not a baseball lovin fool and I thought for sure this season I would be able to get by without seeing a game, but somehow I got suckered into attending a game. Saw the Dbacks play and kick some Padres butt, it as a great game! This was my 1st time actually at Chase field watching the game; I normally wind up at some spring training games. So I have to say I was impressed with the stadium it was hotter than hell outside, but inside it was beautifully air condition. There are tons of places to pick to eat at, I'm sure even the pickiest of eaters would find something they like, for me I was there for the hot dog and cotton candy baby! I had a great time, its hard not too when the fans are full of smiles and cheers, shoot they did the wave like 6 times in a row. It was a good time for sure! If AT & T park is #1 in my book for sporting venues I'd say Chase Field is probably 1a. One of the best aspect of Chase Field is the affordability of the tickets. For under $40 I was able to sit on the DBacks side near 3rd base and was only 20 rows back! Whenever I go to Dodger's Stadium, $40 will barely get you 2nd level and the stadium is not nearly as nice. Along with affordability, Chase Field had some of the nicest employees I've ever interacted with at a sporting game. The vendors were friendly, fast, and had a smile on their faces. Definitely makes it a bit more bearable when you're shelling out $9 for a beer. If you don't feel like eating in the stadium then try one of the restaurants close to the entrances because they're much more affordable. You also gotta love the retractable roof as well! I only wish Dodgers Stadium or Angels Stadium had this option especially when it's 100 degrees+ in July and August. Overall the AZ Dbacks and Chase Field really have a great thing going for them. I can easily see myself pulling for the Dbacks in the future because the franchise seems to take care of their fans by offering affordable tickets at a great venue. Other than my work, I did manage to find enough time to attend a Arizona Diamondback's game who is hosting my San Francisco Giants as a road team. When I was there on (9/21), it was the final home game for the Diamondbacks. All in all, my first time in Phoenix and obviously my first time to watch a baseball game at Chase Field was a most memorable one. In terms of Baseball parks, I've seen games at AT&T, McAfee Coliseum in Oakland and Anaheim Stadium (Game-7 of the World Series in 2002), and every Major League ballparks has unique features. Chase Field has a retractable roof that closes on hot weather days and opens on cooler nights. With the rare cool Phoenix weather, I actually saw the roof opens with the stadium playing Darth Vader's entrance theme as the roof opens. Behind the right-field bleachers, there is a hot-tub for people lounging around the poolside partying and watch their home-team plays. Then beyond the tall centerfield wall is a bright High-definition Scoreboard to watch the player's bio and other entertainment. And next to the huge colorful scoreboard, there are all the achievements with banners induced by the Diamondbacks including a banner winning the 2001 World Series. With the Diamondback baseball team doing poorly in 2009, getting tickets were not a problem. I purchased a $31.00 seat at the Club-level in the "All-you-can-eat" section. Only available until the seventh inning, you get unlimited hot-dogs, sodas, bottled water, chips, popcorn and bagged shelled peanuts. This section is definitely perfect for anybody to train if you want to compete with Joey Chestnut or Takeru Kobayashi. Being in Phoenix for only an hour after my 2.5 hours flight from Portland prior to game time at 7:10pm, this was my dinner. Parking related: I parked in the parking garage north of the field. Elevator number 43 did a free fall with me in it. Didn't slam all the way to the ground but there is not a fun experience. Avoid that one for sure. Probably best just to take the stairs. I notified building maintenance. read more

I often comment that Phoenix only has pro sports teams so all the transplants can go see their hometown teams come play here once a year. I also comment that, while not all Dodger fans are violent criminals, all violent criminals are Dodger fans. Both statements are accurate. The stadium, which I refuse to refer by the title name of a bailed out bank, is new and, while I appreciate older stadiums and outdoor arenas, the fact of the matter is that I want to be comfortable if I am going to a baseball game. Could it be better, absolutely. Is it a generic ballpark with faux bricks and highlights mainly regarding the history of 'the game'? Yes. But, hey, it is what it is. Ball games are expensive and that's what you get when you go. I like that it is off the rail, the stadium is well-laid out, and the climate is controlled. I just wish they would put some local restaurants in place of their generic concession stands. The food is just horrible and that would be a huge upgrade for them. I've been fortunate to attend two seasons of DBacks games since moving to Phoenix. Coming from New York the change is breathtakingly different. There is no such thing as a bad seat! Or a pricey one! The attendants are friendly and eager to help you to your seats. There are copious amounts of places to find beer. There's Happy Hour for goodness sake! Good stuff! PARKING I find it h-i-l-a-r-i-o-u-s you can park in a parking garage for $12. TWELVE BUCKS. If that's not up to your liking, there are ample street lots in the area for ten bucks, just be prepared to walk a bit. Be sure to bring CASH! FOOD There is a diversity of food options in house. You can opt to have food delivered to your seats, depending on where you're seated. Alternatively, you can place an order ahead and save yourself the wait time of a longish line. That being said, feel free to explore the immediate vicinity for some amazing pre-game specials. The Phoenix community goes out of their way to make everyone feel welcome! BATHROOMS There are plenty of them. They're clean! I love you DBacks for this very reason. 'nuff said. (Also, I appreciate the Montero bobblehead very much. I DID take it out of the box tho!) If you're a season ticket holder (or are friends with one!) the DBacks have an awesome sleepover event. No joke! For a nominal ticket fee you can pack a sleeping bag and camp on the field! I have been to Chase Field before on several different occasions for baseball games. I've probably gone to more baseball games in the 4 years that I have lived here, then probably in all my years in Detroit. No one out ranks my Tigers, but my Diamondbacks are a decent team to watch. I like this stadium. Its modern and cool. Retractable roof and walls that open. Very modern and clean. They have ample bathrooms, but the stalls themselves are tiny as heck, which I did not like. I am not a large person, but found the stalls to be rather claustrophobic. I also like that the light rail stops right in front of this place too. this means I dont have to park and pay an outrageous amount of $$ to leave my car in the hot sun. I will say this. This is the first time that I have sat in the upper deck. (3rd level.) I usually sit in the lower level. I was scared at one point because the barriers between you and falling down all that way were minimal. I could easily see myself or someone whos had one beer to many toppling over those rails. Scary! I really did enjoy my experience here, and will obviously be returning for more games! read more

Overall, a GREAT time. I'm behind with my reviews, but when something irks me, i make it a point to review same day. While I'd love to give Chase 5 stars, (I took 1 1/2 away because this one is big), I can't for one big reason... Their lack of assistance for disabled people. Not all of us use wheel chairs. This is a HUGE pet peeve I have. They shouldn't call attention to the fact that I don't look handicapped, so why do I need assistance. Yes, I live in the Desert, and I have a sun allergy. I wasn't asking to "cut" in line, but being with my 7 year old, it's not like I could have him hold our space in line with 10,000 other people. Another person shared her story with me, and had the same issue with their ignorance. She asked if I was planning on citing the ADA and reporting them. I can't believe the run around I received "go here, talk to this person, go to window 2, you're not on a list..." down to "These people have been waiting all day, you just can't walk up and try to cut the line"!!!! Really? It is illegal for them to ask what my disability is. I showed them my medications, and only because they were calling me out and were doing it in front of a few hundred people waiting in line. They should at least have a waiting area with benches to accommodate those of us with disabilities. Please don't judge the illness' you can't see. My kids didn't ask for a parent with an issue, why should they be penalized if I were to stay home 24/7? They retweet your #tweets / #pictures before and during the game on the mega tron. That was a fun way to kill the time before the game starts. We sat in the "all you can eat" seats. A great option if you have kids. There is a small fee added on per ticket, but the savings were more than worth it. Hot dogs, soda, bottled water, popcorn, peanuts in the shell, and chips. Make sure you stock up before the 7th inning, that's when they pull the food and drinks. We got our "Nacho Libre'" masks, good fun for the boy. They offer complimentary sign making services, lots of easy to find restrooms. Overall, we had a great time and will be back. Maybe even buying Season tickets. The down side, the migraine that has already kicked in and will last for the next 24-48 hours. Worth it for a night out with my son. read more

I have to lead off this review by saying the last MLB game I attended was at Fenway. If you've been, you know what I'm talkin' about. That being said, it's hard not to like Chase Field. So I'm in between. I don't like it but I don't not like it. It's OK. None of the seats are bad and the place is a palace. Opulent. So much so that it feels wrong to old school baseball fans like me. When you come across the bridge from the Chase Field parking garage and enter the stadium it feels like you've entered an office building. Huh? Maybe that's why Chase Field lacks the tension and energy of many other ballparks. What tone do you want to set for your fans? That this place rocks and oozes history? Sorry, Fenway has that locked-up. That we just had the carpet cleaned and check out my new big screen TV but keep it down, my grandad is sleeping upstairs? That's closer to the feeling at Chase Field. And no offense Phoenix fans, maybe it's a west coast thing. They could not keep a wave going and every cheer the announcer or the ring of bazillion dot boards tried to get going self-extinguished in 10 seconds or less. Sad. read more

I've attended both baseball and football games (Cactus Bowl) at Chase Field and gotta say it's a pretty state-of-the-art stadium! Whether you are sitting in the upper or lower sections, the view is pretty nice from all areas. I especially love the party pool and picnic areas. And you can't forget about Derrick the lemonade vendor ;) be sure to buy some from him. It really is like how gramma made! I've never checked out the built-in Fridays but will have to soon! Beware that due to the insane amount of people that attend games, it may take a while to pass through security and get into the stadium. Plan accordingly and have fun! read more

I come here a lot, even though I am not a Diamondbacks fan! I have my favorite cheap parking lot I park at on the corner of Buchanan and 3rd that allows me to get in and out of the area without driving through chaotic downtown. I love this year's selection of food establishments, the choices have certainly progressed over the last couple of years. Those die hards who don't think gourmet belongs at the ball field probably won't agree with me. However, I was pleased that Portillo's is now at Chase Field! Chicago Dog here I come. Followed by a chocolate milkshake from Daizen and the fastest Dutch Bros counter in the metro area. OK, enough about food. The stadium is clean and well maintained with plenty of women's restrooms. Even the crowded Team Shop line moves quickly. The best day to come is either opening day or Star Wars Night! Who doesn't want to see Stormtroopers or Vader out on the field? read more

It's always dark the roof is never open even on nice days. The merchandise during the World Baseball Classic was so slim. Only USA stuff nothing else, they underestimated the amount of fans coming from all over the world. Shame on them for even thinking they were prepared. Only focused on their home team. I was very amazed by this place. Came to town thinking big deal, watching a game in a dome. Boy was I wrong, besides low prices for parking, game tickets and food. Stadium is beautifully and a fun place to watch a game. I recommend you to schedule a tour before the game, especially if you have kids! Too bad the local fans do not support their team. This should be a ZERO STAR review. When we heard that the Baseball Classic was coming to Chase field we promptly invited parents and our adult children to town ( they came from Missouri). We purchased tickets for Sunday and Monday night games. We knew Sunday nights game would be very busy so we splurged a little and purchased the all you came eat seats. We thought this would be easier for our parents to get around and enjoy peanuts popcorn a soda and good ole hotdog. The morning of the game we received an email letting us know that Chase Field would not honor the terms of the tickets we purchased. They decided NOT to offer the all you can eat. They apologized for the inconvenience. They offered no compensation. I called the ticket office and the customer service representative blamed Ticketmaster and the MLB for the misunderstanding. Rose told me that although this was not the Diamondbacks fault they would offer a resolution. She told me we would receive and email or a phone call letting us know how they would make it right. Here I sit at the game drinking a $9 bottle water, which should have been included with the tickets we purchased. Why were we not told about this earlier waiting until the day of the event is BAIT AND SWITCH and unethical. Guess what. They ran out of food. So not only did we get our free hotdog, we couldn't even buy one so..... we LEFT read more

Stadium Ranking: #12 out of 30. --- --- --- And now, we enter the 5-star phase. These parks are top of the line, with very little to complain about, for the most part. I really don't have a bad thing to say about Chase Field. I guess if I had to find one negative, it would be that I was dying of thirst the entire time I was in Arizona... but I guess that isn't the stadium's fault :) I love the pavilion set-up between Chase Field & U.S. Airways Center. It has a modern Fenway feel, and really makes you feel like you're in a baseball town. There's food, drink, team logos, and most importantly, shade & misters here! Inside the gate I walked in, was the D'Backs world series trophy, with the highlights of their famous 2001 Game 7 win running on a loop. That was very cool to check out, despite the reminder that the team won a championship in its fourth season of existence... and my team hasn't won it since 1948. Sigh. I ordered this new item called the D-Bat corndog, which was 18" long! It was stuffed with cheddar cheese, jalapenos and bacon, served with a side of fries. It was actually really delicious, but I definitely could not finish the fries after all of that. Oh, and it cost $25, but I do think it was worth it, especially when you consider what's typically available at the ballpark. The layout of the actual bowl of the stadium is very similar to Milwaukee, but I like it better. The way that the retractale roof is set up, is definitely where I draw the comparisons to MIL. But what sets Chase Field ahead of Milwaukee so much is that the stadium doesn't seem as gigantic as Miller Park. I think the seats are built more on top of the field, rather than pushed out in a bowl shape. The video board is centered, and gigantic. The pool in center field is one-of-a-kind. I spent two innings in the outfield just overlooking that, and being very jealous of the people who paid for the ticket with access to it. I also like the signage that rotates high above the outfield seats, and the mini boards with lineups and out of town scores - all nice touches. Excellent job, Chase Field. read more

My daughter and I went to Chase Field to watch the Diamond Backs play against the Padres. For $102.50 each, we had prime seats with access to Audi Quatro restaurant/bar. The entire baseball stadium is air-conditioned! My daughter was concerned about getting sunburned, but that was not an issue as the roof completely blocked the sun. Impressively constructed. Went here for an APS sponsored Asian Pacific American Heritage Night Diamondbacks game. We were fortunate to be in their suites, which included the parking pass. It was easy and fast getting from the garage to the stadium since all we had to do was walk across the bridge and we were inside. They scanned our tickets at the door; therefore, we were free to wander the facility till game time. There was entertainment prior to the game in what I refer to as the lobby, but I know it's not called that. It's where people check in on the ground floor. There are plenty of places to eat in Chase Field, that is for sure. Since we were provided food in the suite, all I tried was the wine. A bit on the expensive side at $22/serving, but I guess that's how they make their money. The facility is clean, including the bathrooms, which must be quite an undertaking with the amount of people it holds. If one doesn't want to park in the garage, there's plenty of other parking available as well in the surrounding area. read more

Go Diamondbacks! I've been coming to this stadium since their inaugural game back in 1998! I still sport my purple and teal hat to the games... I just can't get down with the Sedona Red. We had season tickets for the first three or four seasons and I remember when they won the World Series, my family nearly died with excitement. What a great year! Even though I hadn't been to a game in quite a few years, the stadium hasn't changed much. Sure it isn't Bank One Ballpark anymore, but the people working here are just as friendly as ever. Be prepared to shell out some cash for in stadium food and beer, but that's pretty standard at this point. If you're surprised to spend $7 on a hotdog, then you're too broke to go to a game. It's just the way it is. One of the things I love about this stadium is the retractable roof. This past game we were lucky enough to have nice weather so they opened that sucker right up. Try to listen for the awesome music they play when it's opening. Very epic. Baseball is still the All American thing to do and everyone should go to a game at least once in their life. I'll begin with a disclaimer: I'm not a big diamondback's fan. (I know, boo me!) But with that said, a night out to Chase Field is almost certainly going to be a great one! I've been to three or four games here, and as a venue, this location has a lot to offer. The retractable roof allows for a controlled, air-conditioned atmosphere when it's needed on the hottest days, and a lovely, open-air feel when the temperatures outside aren't scorching. The outfield even features a pool that you can rent out with a big group! (I believe this has to be done well in advance to actually make it happen.) As for dining options, the field has everything from pizza to froyo to actual sit-down meal service with a view of the diamond. Vendors walk the stands selling lemonade, peanuts, beer, and other great ballpark goodies. It's also the only place you can get a 3ft corndog on a bed of fries! (And I hear that the subsequent heart attack is completely complimentary! What a deal!!!) Ok, I'll confess. I've actually tried it, and if you're splitting it with 3+ people, it's doable, but prepare for a food baby like no other. So, even if you're not a diamondbacks fan, the games are a great time! Around the stadium you'll find a lot of fun things to do, and as it's just off of the light rail, parking doesn't have to be a hassle. Bring a glove, grab a beer, and 'Merica-out at the ballpark. I totally enjoyed my visit to this ball park. Parking was easy ~ have you been to a Chicago baseball game? The park was clean, the people were friendly, and there were no lines for the ladies room. With the roof closed, a necessity on this particular evening, it did feel dark. However, that did not have a negative impact on my review. It appears that there is not a bad seat to be had. Have you thought about having known people lead the 7th inning stretch singing? Ironically, the very first beer vendor that came our way happened to have grown up in the same small suburb of Chicago that I did. What a riot. read more

Great Experience! I always have a great time when I go to a Diamond Backs game here. This place is huge, and offers comfortable seating. They have restaurants and bars spread all around this place which is really nice! I also like the fact that it doesn't take long to find a bathroom, and they are never over crowded. What I really love about watching base ball here is that they are marquees all over the place that show statistics during the game! The main screen is huge and has a great picture. We love watching Diamondbacks games here. The facility has a roof that closes so on hot summer days the stadium can be air conditioned. All seats have a good view and the tickets range from affordable for a family to the mid one hundred range. They also have a value menu if you are right on money or a starving student. read more

I actually had a good experience here two days in a row during the summer of 2017. The ballpark is decent but I will say, although it's a must, the retractable roof makes the stadium look gloomy and dark all of the time. I got to see my Dodgers vs the D'Backs and the AZ fans were actually impressive. The food...was unimpressive to say the least. All the hype around their food and dessert and none of it impressed me. The churro dog was lame. The giant corn dog with cheese was probably worse and I'm a big stadium foodie. I was so disappointed when I found out that their senora dog concession only opened on Fridays as I was there Wed & Thurs. I knew the senora dog would have been great... Overall the stadium and its location is pretty solid and I love Phoenix as a whole so more positives than negatives! Cheap seats and good games. I'll be back maybe next year. read more

There's a reason they say this is the nicest stadium in the mlb. It's so family friendly. The seats are all amazing no matter where you're sitting. The food options are endless. So much to choose from. My favorites are the Sonoran dogs and the ice cream sundaes. The margaritas are strong! Every employee here is happy and helpful and everyone seems to really be happy to be apart of the organization. I'm a huge fan. I don't want to take any heat that may have come with a two-star review! However it was a close call...like a play at the plate. I'll give it to the home team this time and land on three stars. For me, "something is missing" at this field & that "SOMETHING" is my favorite part of the baseball game experience. Last time we went here (end of 2012) I swore I'd never return. (That time was more the "two star" day) It was air-conditioned but still hot, crowded and somehow just annoying. I don't know if it was because the roof was closed or what...it felt claustrophobic and we even left early from some pretty decent seats. I've sat all over this park and even the best seats are a drag when the roof is closed - that's my bias - baseball is an outdoor freakin' sport! Suck it up. (I haven't been to any of the other stadiums w/retractable roofs when it's been closed so I don't have anything to compare it too...yet) Anyway, roof was open last night - beautiful, beautiful! Great seats, excellent company and still....I'm left wanting more! I'm a team fan, but I'm also just a sucker for baseball! and I'm not so drawn in by Chase Field. BOB (Plus, I'd rather still call it BOB) Also, I dug the purple, D-backs. I get that teams have to re-brand and I don't know the story behind ditching the purple, but I prefer purple, open roof BOB to red, closed roof Chase Field. Also, I just haven't been impressed by the enthusiasm / friendliness of the concessions / greeters etc and I don't like it when the visitor team crowd almost always outnumbers the home team (at least vocally!). (And there's another whole back story but I'll tell you in person if we ever meet up at a game somewhere!) Is this a review of substance...or what!? If not...it's because baseball / teams etc are a personal experience not solely about the physical venue and as much as I've tried to continue the romance...it's just not there for me! NOTE: I already had fallen in love with this field before it was born too - had stood on home plate when it was still dirt. LOL, I guess there's still dirt there. A baseball fan all my life, I was THRILLED! that there'd be baseball games in Phoenix. I'm bummed that I don't feel the same way. PROS: Food (Dogs) were actually pretty big for $5.50 & decent tasting! Parking is a dream (we always park free & walk from any metered spot nearby - meters only enforced 'til 5pm on weekdays * never weekend/holiday), in the past I was "baseball purist" HATE jumbotrons etc. but I've been won over & the screen here is cool. CONS: "Blah" - something missing, closed roof, can a baseball stadium be "too clean"!? Wasn't sure what to expect after reading through some of the reviews here, but I had a great time seeing the Diamondbacks beat the Padres here. Sure, it might not be the most exciting match-up in the league with both teams struggling to find their footing and the Dodgers running away with the division already in May (Go Dodgers!), but the game entertained nonetheless. Of the 7 stadiums I've been to, this one definitely ranks in the upper half. Getting there is incredibly easy, no traffic, plenty of parking options, public transportation, etc. The stadium is clearly built with weather in mind, and when we got there after a pretty hot afternoon the roof and side panels were closed. I was pretty excited to experience my first indoor baseball game, but about half an hour before gametime they opened everything up. Oh well. It ended up being a pretty mild evening, which I'm sure the local fans long for during the summer, so I can't really complain... I'll use it as an excuse to visit a fixed-dome stadium in the future. The staff was friendly, letting me go down to the field level before the game for some pictures, and as with most modern stadiums, you're encouraged to walk around and experience the different parts of the park. If any stadium could use a pool, it's this one. Good idea there, and plenty of food/drink options that are right around the league average pricewise. The scoreboard in center field is a highlight with its gigantic high-def TV scrolling more facts and stats than anyone can possibly need. The out-of-town scoreboards mounted high up in right and left field are also a nice touch. One of my complaints with the newer stadiums is that it often feels like you're at a mall rather than a ballpark. I didn't get that feeling here at all; it's just a nice place to escape the heat and take in a game. Could do without 5 million Chase logos on every structure in the stadium, I guess. I do want to also comment on the fans and the overall atmosphere, since they're often mentioned in the reviews here... Yes, the fans are quiet. Incredibly quiet, actually. The game started off pretty slow and from my seats up in the top deck behind home plate, I think I heard someone sneeze out in right field. But when the D'backs pitcher (Scherzer) took it upon himself to get some offense going, the fans got into it as much as any other team's fans would. And when the bullpen threatened to blow a 5-run lead in the 8th inning, the fans got on them as much as any other. Maybe it's the heat or the dry air, but the fans just simply coil up under invisible rocks and wait for something to happen. No reason to waste energy when nothing's happening, right? One big compliment I can give to them is that they all seem to PAY ATTENTION. Possibly more so than any other park I've been to. Every fan seemed to be focused on the game: no mindless wave, no beachballs, no people on cellphones discussing the next day's meetings... Nice ballpark with a nice laid-back atmosphere. Great place to meet up with friends in the summer when it is HOT outside. We always get the best seats that are just behind home plate. There I can watch the game and be up close with the players. Last time we went it was against the Dodgers. I love the Dodgers, so I had a great time watching both teams. The crowd was loud and everyone was there to watch a great game. This last time I chose a date that we had free. Did not notice the team. The game this time was the Diamond Backs vs the Padres. Wow! What a yawn. Everyone was talking about vacations and heading back to school Very few were watching the game, even with our seats so close to the action. Lesson learned. Go when my Dodger's are in town. Each time we have gone it is super cool inside. This a great feature, since temperatures in July are 110+. There is plenty of room to walk and stretch. There are vendors who will bring food and drinks. They always seem to be having fun and enjoying the crowd. Many of the other entertainment, between innings take place on the other side of the field, but the cameras bring all the action to everyone in the stadium. We do not get ignored during the t-shirt toss either. Brad was able to catch a t-shirt from his seat. Yay! We park in the official garage. $15 and it is next to the stadium. Walking over the bridge gives a look of downtown. Once inside there is nice and cool places to sit. We have never experienced a wait, we never go before the game begins and usually show up in the 2nd or 3rd inning. The most wait we had was for the bag check. We never have a bag, but there is always just one line and some people have way too many things they are bringing in to the game. When we pass we just empty pockets, go thru metal detector and are on our way. read more

Really nice stadium/field. I can't really compare it to any other stadium because Dodgers is the only other stadium I've been too. The stadium is a dome therefore it's nicely air controlled inside. Later at night the roof on the dome actually opens up and you get a nice view of the twinkling sky. Stadium is very clean and has lots of food and merchandise vendors. We sat at section 306 and we were still able to get a great view of the stadium and game. Very family friendly environment. It also had the usual entertainment such as the mascots racing, kiss cam, and bloopers. *If you plan on bringing drinks into the stadium, they only allow water. read more

Funny story: I was visiting a friend in AZ and we had tickets to a Diamondback game. It was about 110 degrees outside and I was lathering on suntan lotion. I told my friend...I don't know how long I will last in this heat and he said, CHERI, this is Arizona, we have an indoor ballpark and it is air conditioned. Ok, I had no idea that it had a a retractable roof and there was AC. We arrived and we had those cool outfield seats that is like a bar with bar stools hanging over the outfield. The TGIF has tables inside the stadium where you can eat at a table and watch the game...you need reservations for that. Super cool stadium until my friend decided to smoke not once but twice and get us all kicked out of the stadium but I do not blame the stadium. They have a swimming pool in the outfield that you can rent out... REALLY COOL! read more

They're larger, wider, and the aisles are big...very comfortable. + If you sit in the letter section, you have food service where you can order food & drink and they take it out to you...yeah! + Since my last review, I've caught a foul ball thrown to me from the Dbacks dugout, way cool...fulfilled a childhood dream. + This stadium is just so much more comfortable than others I've been at.
