Guys, I keep trying and repeatedly end up disappointed. The food is great but the service is always awful(ish). I'll give my simple today example in which I was giving you every opportunity. Ordered online to save time and came over. Walked over and let ya know I was there and early...then I said I'd wait outside. After...a while I came back in and asked about my order, the first person said "you just ordered" (which...above) the person I spoke to and let I know I was there....twice said. Wait...are you Dave?! (Note how many times I tried to help you...it was twice). I have just had bad experiences. This wasn't the first....or second time. But this is my first post. I feel as if I've been reasonable. I'll be back for sure and just hope that the service improves and I don't have to continue just planning for it. read more

Update 10/29/19. Went back for the first time since the spring, at brunch/lunch time. Took my parents, who were visiting from Europe and had been complaining about a lack of decent coffee on their trip. Thank goodness the cappuccinos met their standards! My grilled cheese was as good as it had been previously. My dad asked for a veggie omelet and then refused to pick ingredients in favor of "surprise me", and got a plate that he raved about. No chocolate chip cookies to determine whether my former favorite was back up to scratch, but the apricot and ginger version was delicious. Service was... fine. It was a quiet day and we had multiple different servers come over. It got a bit confusing for all concerned. But, everything was prompt and everyone was friendly. I'm writing this update today while I consider going for lunch. I'm put off because I'm working from home and I'd like to take my laptop to get some work done in a different setting, but they have a no laptop policy. On the whole I suppose I am in favor, particularly at weekends, but perhaps I'd like to see that loosened a little during midweek day shifts. read more

I have to agree with some of the other reviewers. The experience here is hit or miss - sometimes they get the food right and the wait is reasonable and the staff are nice. Other times, there's a guy behind the counter saying "I don't care if you complain to my boss, she doesn't care what you think of me" to someone on the phone, getting your order completely wrong, and giving it to you 30 minutes after he said it would be ready. I think this is partially staff shortage problems so I will give them the benefit of the doubt and continue going here, just not when I'm in a hurry (yes even if you call ahead). read more

I was so happy and surprised on how cute this little corner brunch location is. It is located in a quaint neighborhood. When a close friend of mine visited, we went here for bunch and had amazing Bloody Mary's and a great breakfast. I had a create your own omelette; mushrooms, american cheese, peppers and onions. My friend had a bagel and lox on an everything. The atmosphere was a perfect little corner neighborhood restaurant. The service was great and the servers were all very attentive. This is a perfect little corner stable in the butchers hill neighborhood. It's also a laptop free restaurant which is awesome so people are actually speaking with one another, it also prevents people working from monopolizing the tables. We ordered the spicy fennel bagel with cream cheese and it was delicious! Spicy, but that was to be expected- the cream cheese helped offset the heat- highly recommend! We also ordered the French onion soup, bresaola and omelette. Everything was very good! FO soup was a little salty, but still very good. The food does take a little time to come out it that's because they're making everything fresh at the time of order. It's a very small place so it makes sense! The latte was also delicious! Would Recommend for quick service or a nice sit down! We can't want to go back! read more

I had the cream of crab soup and a caesar salad. The soup was lackluster, shells from the crab in the soup, and I added a lot of cracked pepper for flavor because it was bland. It was noon on a Tuesday and not very busy yet service was extremely slow. Aesthetically the cafe is enjoyable. Pleasant little cafe. I had a quiet and yummy brunchy meal here. There were only 3 other patrons when I arrived. My waiter was quick and clipped but he did the job and checked on me several times during the meal. I got the Caesar salad (mostly because the menu said there were anchovies on it) and a Breakfast Sandwich on a croissant. I was intending on taking some home but I powered through and ate it ALL! The Caesar had at least 5 full anchovy fillets in it plus a bunch of black olives. I would have preferred fewer olives and more Parmesan (I didn't see any) as the anchovy made it salty enough - but it was good! A good amount of croutons, too. The croissant was a bit dark but it was very flavorful with the bacon, cheddar, and fried egg. I over-ordered, but left happy. read more

Went there for late lunch today. Finally made it there after intending to go there since they opened. The design, decoration, lighting and environment are way above average. Quite lovely actually. Charmed Kitchen is a hidden gem that is tucked away in the Butchers Hill neighborhood. I stumbled across this place one day while walking my dogs & have been obsessed ever since!! Charmed has a fantastic selection of local wines. Beth knows what she is talking about & always helps me select the best wines while there! Their food is also delicious & never disappoints. I'm obsessed with their sandwiches & chocolate croissants!! We also love grabbing a coffee here on Sunday mornings. Also love all the local art that they hang on the walls. Since then, I gave it another try and it has consistently provided 5-star service and quality! Finally had the opportunity to visit charmed kitchen and I am obsessed!!!!! I popped into the shop looking for a St. Patrick's Day hangover cure and its safe to say I will be spending my weekend mornings here from now on!! The location is really great if you live in upper fells point like I do - literally a 3 minute walk from my house. I tried the breakfast sandwich with bacon on the country loaf and it was by far my favorite breakfast sandwich that I've had in Baltimore. Yes. For real. The sandwich was super cheesy and the eggs were cooked just right! Not to forget to mention how tasty their homemade country loaf is. I also got an almond croissant to go for an afternoon snack and a latte to drink while I waited. The croissant was pretty good as well, although, I think I will be trying the chocolate one next time. This place is very quaint with a good vibe inside. They have the best burgers! The meat was perfectly cooked as I like it medium. The buns they use seem to be made in-house as it's also a bakery! (Note - I haven't been for lunch or dinner, so review is solely for breakfast fare). Was intrigued when Charmed Kitchen cropped up in place of the Pratt/Chester corner store - within months the gutted facade was soon bustling with breakfast-goers and their Instagram account was tempting me with its siren song of fresh-baked pastries. As we now live in a post-Salt society (RIP duck fat fries), Charmed appears to have been filling that Butcher's Hill void handsomely, with breakfast to boot! The interior is bright and airy, with ample seating and ornate tiles. If the glass bakery displays of bagels, cookies, and fresh roundels of bread were not enough, there's also a full service bar. Breakfast fare consists of your traditional eggy bagels and sandwiches, but with high-quality ingredients. This, of course, comes with a price. My two croissants to-go ran me over $7, so I have to think of Charmed as more a rare treat than a daily breakfast spot. Did the croissants live up to the $3.50 price tag? I'd say they were head and shoulders above any other croissants I've had in the Baltimore area - they were fresh, crispy, and had none of the oiliness that I've come to associate with your usual box of "conference room" pastries. The chocolate was delectably semi-sweet, rich but not overpowering. Their Charmed Tart, a raspberry-filled Danish, was similarly tasty. Only complaint is the Charmed Tart has a cracked-sugar and raspberry powder topping; I ended up picking the cracked sugar pieces off, as it was a bit too sweet for my preferences. Either way, their pastries have had me return multiple times. Next time I hope to try out one of their fresh bread loaves. Also note: Charmed is not a Starbucks - there's a no laptop policy and, based on the foot traffic this place has been getting, I can understand why they do not want the spaces congested. Think of it more as a bakery + sit-down eatery than a study spot. read more

My order is wrong about half the time I order online and the service is very slow. Service is friendly and decent when it's very slow, but they are not staffed or equipped for lunch or breakfast rush and are not honest about status or wait times. Charmed Kitchen is so CUTE! I love this newest addition to the neighborhood. The interior feels very open and bright thanks to its many windows and a gorgeous mirror. There are only a few tables so whether you're going for breakfast or dinner, make sure to get there early. I stopped in around 10:30 on a Saturday and the line was practically out the door! So do be aware there can be quite a wait. I just wanted to check the place out so all I ordered was a latte and a plain bagel with shmear. The bagel was good but could have been a tad more toasted. The shmear was fresh and creamy and they were not stingy with it either! I think the prices for some items can be a bit high for what you're getting, but I love the idea of a bakery in the neighborhood and will definitely be back for cute mornings out with my boyfriend! read more

Really good baked items. The everything bagel was delightful but would have rather had it with cream cheese. As a breakfast sandwich, it was very plain and not very flavorful. Instead, I recommend opting for the grilled cheese with prosciutto and adding sausage or bacon. That was delicious! Latte was good, so was the mimosa. Small dining room is cozy - they lost a star for me because no one acknowledged us when we walked in. Didn't know whether to seat ourselves or wait for someone and it was packed right by the door. Came here to dine outdoors under a really nice heat lamp at a spacious table. Felt that diners would definitely feel comfortable that they are taking precautions, sanitizer everywhere and only disposable plates and cups. We got a happy hour wine which was filled to the TOP of a 9 ounce container for only 5 bucks a glass! Was the house red which was very good. ordered two sandwiches which were great, one was the turkey bacon sandwich (delish) and the other was the D sandwich with all the spicy salami and cured meats which was incredible. The old bay house chips were great but the french fries were AMAZING, piled on high on our plate. We are so grateful for this business doing all they can with the very strict restrictions put in place in Baltimore City. Will try to visit again soon! read more

I like their food, but service has gone downhill quickly. I live in the neighborhood and frequent the local place. Jordan, who works the front, has been rude twice. We individually went inside to order and had to wait for Jordan to wrap up her convo in the kitchen before coming out to take our orders. I actually called the restaurant after waiting a while, figuring she'd hear the phone and come out. We had our lunch outside and a worker (make) came by and snidely told us the trash can was behind us. I guess he thought we were waiting for someone to take care of it? Nope, we were just chatting and hadn't tossed our plates away yet. I really hope the manager/owner has a convo with her staff about their demeanor. I was completely in love with this place at first - amazing cookies, croissants, breakfast sandwiches. However, after a couple of experiences sitting at the bar, I've decided there's something off about the service. It seems like the kind of place you can grab a quick bite however, I've found on multiple occasions that it takes an egregiously long time for food to come out. On the most recent occasion, I ordered a cup of soup. It took so long (over 20 minutes) to come out, that even the girl sitting next to me at the bar turned to say that she had eavesdropped on my order and was shocked at how long it would take to bring out a cup of soup. I asked my server if it would be much longer because I was in a bit of a hurry. He said he would check on the status and about 5 minutes later, I received the soup in a brown paper bag packed to go. I had not asked for this, I was merely trying to politely inquire when I could expect my food. After waiting this long for the soup, to have it presented this way was extremely dissatisfying (especially if you've seen the photos of the cream of crab others have uploaded-mine looked like something you would get at a cafeteria). When I politely confronted the server about this, that I did not want my soup served in a cardboard container, instead of acknowledging that it had taken a long time for the soup to come out and apologizing, I was given a rude, sarcastic, and defensive response. Having been a server myself, all I can say is no thanks. Plenty of other places to grab a meal with competent service. read more

And it wasn't just us, all of the tables sat around waiting for their food. Each table was served about 15-20 minutes apart. It was weird. No apologies when food came either. Came here for drinks one evening. Can't write a full review because of my limited experience at the kitchen, but I will say that the drinks menu was stellar. I ordered a Moscow mule for a fair price ($4) and was very pleased. The wait staff seemed a little inexperienced and there were several holdups but it was not to an unacceptable amount. This was expected because it is a newer establishment and they were still testing many aspects of waiting. The waiters and waitresses were very friendly and kind, even when they were stressed. We had a group of five for brunch on Sunday and after ordering we waited an hour and a half until the food came with no explanation- I don't know how it's possible for sandwiches to take so long to make. About an hour after ordering we were told they were out of two of our orders. It's a shame because the local vibe and cool space could make this place great. My friends and I ordered breakfast from here and picked it up. Service time was fine, but unfortunately I felt that the food wasn't very good. We all had sides of breakfast potatoes, which were underdone and barely even seasoned. And then there was my egg and cheese on a "bagel," if you could even call it that. I am from NY. The water, as others have mentioned before me (with the lightning bolt earrings and overalls), rudely spoke about my friends and me behind the counter. Everything was perfect! Jordan was extremely kind and helpful. "Da Butch" sandwich was delicious and really glad we added goat cheese to it. We really recommend the truffle fries, but the homemade chips were delicious too! The iced chai lattes were yummy even after we accidentally added chile powder that we thought was cinnamon lol. Because of COVID we usually order to go, but this was the first time that we ate at a restaurant! There was an outdoor table that was tucked away and furthest from everyone and the street wasn't too busy, so we felt comfortable sitting down. Vegetable scraps hastily strewn on a plate (an onion core, capers, and no tomatoes, as they were out) that had a dirty rim from previous use, and a meager portion of mangled smoked salmon. I wish I could say anything positive about this place, as I live nearby and would be excited to have a weekend cafe option, but this ain't it.
