The food is excellent. Staff is very nice and they are very efficient on getting the orders out! I have been going here for as long as I can remember, since I was a kid. Been hoping to find a decent Chinese food place since coming up from NYC and this hit the spot. But my dad kind of nailed it with this comment: "if you think this is good Chinese food then you've already become a real upstater" lol I really have no complaints . It wasn't stellar but they do a lot of business for a reason. One item in the order I would say was totally as yummy as my NYC Chinese food places are the BBQ ribs . They were delicious. I want more! Also the soups were hot and tasty. The moo-shoo chicken was ...different. a fresh mix of stuff that met the definition of moo shoo and the pieces of chicken in it were generous slices of white meat but the flavor and texture wasn't at all like the slippery cabbage kind I grew up with that I was craving so I probably won't order it again. I order the GTC as a litmus test - the combo version was a good deal and the bites I had were hot flavorful and the spice level was really good --- but I didn't actually find any "chicken" content inside any of the bites I had. They were all shell and sauce.I guess that's typical of most places now? I have not ordered that in ages and won't order it again but I'm willing to try the tsos tofu version that others reviewed. The scallion pancakes were ok but didn't have the flexible moist texture of the traditional kinds they were more crunchy. We liked them okay but nobody wanted a second piece which is rare for us . The egg rolls were typical frozen type with some empty space inside - not bad at all but keep expectations low don't envision the big bulging fresh kind. The fried noodles and fortune cookies were fresh. I will be back for more soon even if my dad makes fun of me for it. read more

Usually I am a fan of Chan's Peking, but my last order with them seems like they were off of their game. The Crispy Walnut Chicken was soggy and tasted old, the walnuts were soft and mushy and there was two pieces of flimsy broccoli with the chicken. My husbands fried rice tasted bland and flavor-less. People answering the phone are very rude and the food is subpar at best. I called to order and was hung up on twice the second time because I asked if they delivered. They did not give me an oppertunity to place an order. I eventually was able to place an order for pickup and placed the order for three. One item was the General Tso"s combo. This is supposed to be a hot (spicy) dish and I requested extra spicy. It did not have one hint of spice and the chicken was dry. This is the second time I've ordered from there while visiting the area that the dish was indicated as hot without a hint of heat to be tasted but I decided to give them a second try-never again! read more

Dear Chan's ... PLEASE bring back the old boneless spare ribs....they used to have a wonderful sauce with a ginger flavor and now they are DRY with hardly any sauce whatsoever.....not good. I've deducted one star because they don't deliver. What kind of Chinese food doesn't deliver?! Aside from that, Chan's had the best Chinese food in the Dutchess/Ulster area. It's not just your usual fried, no flavor junk Chinese. This is well thought out. It's not greasy. The fried rice is the 3rd best I've ever had - considering the best I had was in Asia, I think that says something. The crab rangoon actually have crab in them. It came with a soup for each of us, (We had wonton) a heaping serving of fried rice, and both sesame chicken, and triple delight. (Chicken, beef, and shrimp with vegetables in a brown sauce). There's a lot of Chinese food in the world. Very little of it is good, sadly. Being from NYC, we see so much take out and so much of it is just terrible. Chicken entrees that are mostly water chestnuts and baby corns and shredded bamboo shoots. It gets old, fast. The worst is thick doughy "dumplings" that use dumpling wraps that are 1/4 inch thick. Chans is nothing like that. I've been there 2-3 times, and have been continuously impressed: dumplings that I believe are home made (ask for those special), with thin tasty wrappings; a sesame chicken that was white meat, a meaningful portion, over broccoli perfectly green not over cooked. and with a light tasty batter. It's great to know this place exists when I visit Poughkeepsie. I always make it there. Keep up the great work! read more

really good food! we've been having trouble finding a good chinese place in the area but we enjoyed our food. i got extra spicy garlic beef and broccoli, and they actually did make it extra spicy. hubby loved his general tso's chicken (he even said it was the best he's had) and we both loved the fried rice! it was flavorful and even had small pieces of egg, unexpected but yummy! they look very clean inside and they are taking precautions - order beforehand, only one customer in at a time, barrier between customer and employee. we will definitely come back :) read more

During the the first year of my 3 year my divorce I spent a lot of time Poughkeepsie. When my first lawyer's "collaborative process" started looking like she was colluding with opposing council I did not want to spend a lot on restaurants. Take out Chinese has always been my go to lunch it's fast and filling. The trick is to find a clean place. My first choice is Chan's. Wow! What a treat! We've been searching for a good Chinese spot in Poughkeepsie, and this is it. Boneless pork ribs were absolutely amazing, hearty and flavorful. Portion sizes are a little bit smaller than usual, but it seems that is because the quality of the food is exponentially better than anything else around. Definitely the best Chinese takeout in the area! More authentic than your run-of-the-mill Chinese takeout place. As other reviews have said, the owner is fantastic, and will make sure customers are satisfied with their meals (which is atypical for Chinese places, as far as service goes). Their fried rice and Singapore mei fun are fairly close to Chinatown quality, and their ho fun/chow fun is terrific as well (my wife's favorite). It definitely hits the spot this far up north from NYC. So very much wish they delivered! Or rather.. maybe that wouldn't be a good idea for the waistline.. lol. Having recently moved to the area, it will for sure be on our radar every time we're craving Chinese food from here on out! read more
