I tried here, since it looked interesting, and the food pictures on the page looked amazing. First I will say the parking lot to get here sucks, literally barely any space to park. The service was pretty quick between ordering and getting the food, and was thanked. The beef and crabmeat in garlic sauce was very good, did not think that was great combo, but the beef and crabmeat were pretty good, cooked just right and the sauce bathed them well. The veggies were of same quality although wish I had more broccoli than onions. White rice was great, not mushy and not dried out. Now the Korean spicy house noodle soup, sorry that sucked, to start, should been a thinner noodles, since the larger ones get gummy in texture and honestly it weak in the spicy department, plus definitely more cabbage than actually any meat. I bought their General Tso's chicken and the breaded chicken pieces were so tuff it felt like tuff strings of sinewy meat, like an old roosters foot they breaded and threw in the pot. Disgusting!! So rude! Went in and the cashier complained that a Mexican restaurant overcharges HER and continued to charge me for food I've ordered in the past and I could tell she overcharged me. My go-to Chinese food place in Poughkeepsie. I especially like the sweet donuts. I can't believe they deliver all the way out to my house in pleasant valley and very promptly. On the phone they are patient and informative. They've been working hard forever to serve us the good Chinese food in the area. Very Rude People runs this place. There are times when the woman on the phone will just hangup. When you ask a question, she will talk to you as if you're stupid. The food is okay but if you had 1 thing you need to change, you will get attacked on the phone. We ordered the combination platter and it comes with Fried Rice and General Chicken. The lady gave me noodles, and charge me for the noodles. I clearly told them I Fried Rice and it sounds nothing like Noodles so I don't know how can she make that mistake. I've been to many Chinese take-outs in my day and East Garden is a really good place to get food. It many scare some because it's smack dab in the middle of Main St. in Poughkeepsie. Anyone that knows the area has no cases of disillusion here. East Garden is very clean. It actually is comfortable eating there, which most Chinese take-out places are not. The menu is pretty standard when it comes to take-out. They do have an AMAZING Roast Pork w. Szechuan Pickled Cabbage soup that is really off the charts. It is the first Chinese restaurant outside of Chinatown I've been to that actually serves that soup. They also have Ginger Beef and War Shu Duck (something else Hudson Valley Chinese spots usually do not have). I will definitely be coming back here...the Pork & Cabbage soup alone is worth it for me. read more

Sometimes you just need a solid go-to for that rainy weeknight. Some place that remembers your address and your favorite orders. Well look no further, because East Garden is that place. The food is always really good, and the price is right where it should be for Chinese food. Only reason why it's not getting five stars is that (as others have mentioned) sometimes the delivery takes a while, sometimes over 45 minutes. But I do believe that is just because they do so much business! Maybe it's time to hire another delivery driver? Anyway the food is really good. We've had the sesame chicken, general tso's chicken, boneless spare ribs, chicken and broccoli, and that's all done right. Its a small takeout Chinese restaurant. Prices are very reasonable. The reason to give 3 stars is because like most of the people stated here, general tso's chicken is really good. The problem is that i ordered kungpao chicken but i still got general tso's chicken remade into kungpao. The vegetable lo mien had some sort of bone so i was disappointed and threw it. my fiancé and I always order from east garden for delivery because they have the best Chinese food in close range of us. When the food was delivery to my house part of my order wrong. I called to tell them, to see if they would send what I actually order to me. Immediately the woman on the phone was very disrespectful. Started to verbally assaulting at me about their mistake. meanwhile I was still calm because things like this happen with mistakes in the food industry. I use to work in food places when I was younger, accidents happen. She was screaming I didn't order what I said I order when I in fact did. I don't eat certain fried foods because greasy foods hurt my stomach. I order from them about once a week and they will no longer be receiving any orders from me. I was a very loyal customer and was treated very poorly at their mistake. I wasn't rude or came out of place at all. I only gave them a 1 star because their food is delicious. But if they don't have good customer service and be respectful to customers that are being respectful to them in a not so pleasant situation I don't want to do any time of business with them. I've tried almost every Chinese food restaurant in the area and I can say without a doubt that East Garden is one of the worst. The General Tso's chicken was practically inedible, the sauce was bland and too sour, and the broccoli tasted old. We also ordered Sesame chicken, which, if I had tasted it blindfolded I would have sworn it was just the General Tso's again. The only reason I decided on two stars rather than one is because the Crab Rangoon weren't the worst and they threw in a free bottle of soda. After finishing (and by finishing I mean putting it in the fridge just in case I'm desperate later on), I'm left wondering if the free soda was a generous gift, or a reason to not call and complain. read more

We have been longtime loyal fans of Chan's Peking at their two locations but when we received the flyer for this Chinese alternative and it mentioned delivery, we thought we'd give it a try especially since they also advertised Szechuan dishes. We phoned in the order and were told that the wait would be 40 minutes, not unreasonable for a busy Saturday night given the place was a mile or so away. After two more phone calls to the clearly harassed manager and a 90 minute wait (really unconscionable for what should be fast food) the smiling delivery man arrived to a snarling reception. I hate to descend to the level of revenge reviews but if you are going out of your way to advertise the delivery feature you have to d-e-l-i-v-e-r! It's really bad judgment. Curiously, the food was not stone cold on arrival which somehow indicates to me that it was not even prepared by the time of the first follow-up call. If you wish to dine on their food by all means get off your chair and pick it up--the alternative is masochistic. Oh well, all of that notwithstanding the food, the food, the food. You would think even mediocre (what we were expecting) American Chinese would taste like ambrosia to the starving but, not so fast. There was nothing remotely close to Szechuan flavors in those dishes--it was a false hope on our part. The sesame noodles proudly proclaimed themselves to be so-so and the wonton soup was free (reviewing etiquette prohibits carping about the quality of free stuff)! Ive tried all the Chinese places in Poughkeepsie and theirs is the best by far. Love everything I've tried so far, from their soups to things like Hunan Chicken, Shrimp wth Veggies, dumplings, etc... But what strikes me the most, which is why I'm written this review (incidentally as I wait for my order to be delivered), is how friendly they are when you call and when the delivery guys arrives. Since another Chinese Restaurant closed in the area, I have been going to East Garden and I find the service is friendly and fast! The food is great! The kitchen and restaurant is "very clean" in appearance and that is very important to me. The cooks and staff are busy but still very friendly. We will stick with them as anything else I tried in area leaves something to be desired....Thank you East Garden!!!! Love my chicken with mixed vegetables amongst many other good choices.
