    Krab Rangoons
    Kristine S.

Hubby and I were in the mood for Chinese takeout. We didn't feel like driving too far so we ended up ordering Chan's Chinese. I called in our order and we picked it up in less than 20 minutes. We ordered krab rangoons, General Tso's chicken with pork fried rice and honey chicken with chicken lo mein. The krab rangoons were pretty good but nothing too special. We both wanted them to be sweeter. They were better dipped in the sweet and sour sauce. Hubby's favorite is General Tso's chicken which was decent but we've had way better. Pork fried rice was just okay, needed soy sauce. The honey chicken was more like corn syrup chicken, I wasn't a huge fan. It tasted very artificial. The lo mein was bland and light on the veggies. Overall, not the best Chinese takeout. We probably wouldn't order from them again.

We got take out from here and got three different dishes, egg rolls and spring rolls. I got shrimp and chicken with lo mein noodles. The shrimp were a good size but the small strips of chicken was just ok, had a decent sauce, carrots and nice pieces of broccoli. I did not care for the noodles. We also got chicken with fried rice. There was the same sauce on that dish and the same vegetables. The fried rice was better than the noodles. The third order was noodles with shrimp. The shrimp in this dish were very small and the noodles were the same as mine. The egg roll was just ok. The spring roll was a little better. The order was done via internet and was ready when we went to pick it up. There were no napkins given. Just a few packets of soy sauce and 2 packets of sauce for the 5 egg rolls and spring rolls. My family says this is the best Chinese they have found in the northside so far, but I just can't give it more than a 3. I didn't go in so can't comment on the decor or cleanliness.

Vegetable Kung Pao. Added fried tofu for the win!!!

Had CHANS today and it was straight FIRE . Don't forget about this Northside staple. In business for over 30 years. Had vegetable Kung Pao, added fried tofu. Got the dinner portion cause I'm greedy like that. Take out only for the time being. Definitely worth the trip.

We love Chan's, always get an order of rangoons and they are honestly my favorites out of many places I tried in Jacksonville. Had to post an updated menu price though, the one from years ago is sadly inaccurate now and I got a bit of a jolt at the register haha.

Shrimp and Pork with mixed vegetables. Lunch special. Instead of fried rice that comes with lunch special, I chose white rice.

Tried YH Dim Sum and it totally hit the spot!…read more Everything we ordered was on point the shrimp rice rolls, sesame chicken, and BBQ pork were all so good. Flavor, texture, portion... no notes. The lychee martinis were a highlight (especially since they were doing BOGO ), and the staff made the whole experience even better super fun and great energy. If you're craving dim sum and a good time, this place is definitely worth the stop.

I love visiting Saint Augustine so I was so excited when I found this dim sum restaurant!…read more Unfortunately I was very disappointed. I was dining by myself. I always order a lot of dishes because I like what I like and I also know I'll have leftovers. I sent back the pan fried taro pudding because it was so bland and it didn't have many of the main ingredients in it. If it were there, it was so skimpy I didn't find any. (The Chinese sausage and dried shrimp) The pain fries soy sauce noodles were overcooked. It's suppose to be pan fried and it was not. Also very skimpy on the black mushrooms. Not very flavorful. The Steamed shrimp dumplings were mediocre. The skin was gummy and fell apart. The shrimp filling wasn't too bad. The shrimp with rice pasta was probably the best dish there. But it was still lacking in flavor. The steamed ribs with black bean sauce was very bland. The ribs were tough and tasteless. The braised chicken feet were over cooked. The texture was horrible like eating mush. The flavors were also off. The egg tarts looked good but the flavors again were off. Borderline going bad. It had that slight aftertaste of sourness. The shell was also flavorless. The BBQ pork buns were also disappointing. The ratio of bread to filling was off. Very small amount. But I was a little happy this happened because the filling didn't taste good at all. The hot tea was also disappointing. I always order jasmine tea when having dim sum. They used a low quality tea bag instead of real loose jasmine tea leaves which also includes the flowers. No fragrance at all of Jasmine tea. Needless to say, I will not be going back on my next visit. It was very expensive for what they give you. Especially since the food was so bad. I gave it two stars because the service was very good and the view was decent. I am Chinese... born in Hong Kong. So I know what dim sum should taste like. I wish I had seen the review that had a photo of the salt and pepper shrimp before I went because I would not have gone. Their salt and pepper shrimp is not authentic and I would have not gone and saved myself $80 for my lunch.

They're at 10586 Old St Augustine Road in Mandarin with a nice size parking lot so their location is great and parking isn't a concern. I'll get to the food in a minute but I'll start by saying that before we opened our fortune cookies at the end, I jokingly said "I hope one of these says 'you will get your original Facebook account back". They didn't say that but I included a photo of both because I feel like they're close enough As far as food goes, we split the Peony Sampler for an appetizer and loved it. It definitely did it's job as a sampler because now we know we like all of their appetizers and would order any of them on their own in the future. I ordered Egg Drop Soup after that because it's a favorite of mine. I always add a little salt to their version of it but I add salt to a lot of soups so that may just be a "me" thing. I had the Sweet & Sour Pork with Fried Rice for my entree, which is the same things had last time and it's still great. Between the appetizer and the soup and the entree, I was hoping to have enough to take home for lunch tomorrow and I definitely did. My wife had the General Chicken. She really liked the sauce because it was sweet but has a little bit of spicy kick to it. She said the same thing I said about the chicken itself; she loved that it was big pieces of juicy white meat. She was also surprised by how much she liked the broccoli which made for one of those things where you could get a bite of everything at once. She also had a lot to take home, so she's happy with that too. Thank you again to the person who posted about Peony in the group recently. We had a great lunch thanks to your reminder.
