I love visiting Saint Augustine so I was so excited when I found this dim sum restaurant! Unfortunately I was very disappointed. I was dining by myself. I always order a lot of dishes because I like what I like and I also know I'll have leftovers. I sent back the pan fried taro pudding because it was so bland and it didn't have many of the main ingredients in it. If it were there, it was so skimpy I didn't find any. (The Chinese sausage and dried shrimp) The pain fries soy sauce noodles were overcooked. It's suppose to be pan fried and it was not. Also very skimpy on the black mushrooms. Not very flavorful. The Steamed shrimp dumplings were mediocre. The skin was gummy and fell apart. The shrimp filling wasn't too bad. The shrimp with rice pasta was probably the best dish there. But it was still lacking in flavor. The steamed ribs with black bean sauce was very bland. The ribs were tough and tasteless. The braised chicken feet were over cooked. The texture was horrible like eating mush. The flavors were also off. The egg tarts looked good but the flavors again were off. Borderline going bad. It had that slight aftertaste of sourness. The shell was also flavorless. The BBQ pork buns were also disappointing. The ratio of bread to filling was off. Very small amount. But I was a little happy this happened because the filling didn't taste good at all. The hot tea was also disappointing. I always order jasmine tea when having dim sum. They used a low quality tea bag instead of real loose jasmine tea leaves which also includes the flowers. No fragrance at all of Jasmine tea. Needless to say, I will not be going back on my next visit. It was very expensive for what they give you. Especially since the food was so bad. I gave it two stars because the service was very good and the view was decent. I am Chinese... born in Hong Kong. So I know what dim sum should taste like. I wish I had seen the review that had a photo of the salt and pepper shrimp before I went because I would not have gone. I took my parents here (they were born in China, grew up in Taiwan) for their last dinner in Jacksonville before returning back to Dallas, TX. My mom wasn't impressed ‍. I thought the snow pea tips with roasted garlic and Cantonese eight treasure hot pot was really good. My kids loved the soup dumplings and the beef chow fun. The Hong Kong steamed chicken didn't have any flavor and was dry. I would not order that again. Our waitress was really sweet, but we had 3 adults and two kids (one was sleeping the whole meal) and they decided to add 18% gratuity to the bill. I always tip at least 20-25% depending on the service, but when they add it automatically I subconsciously get offended and am not inclined to give more gratuity.... This is an update... Our family decided to skip cooking for Turkey Day this year and go out instead. The moment we mentioned eating out, my mom immediately asked for YH Dim Sum. It's her favorite spot, and for good reason. She loves their shrimp fried rice, salt and pepper chicken wings, salt and pepper shrimp, egg rolls and more. The food is consistently delicious and the staff is always warm and welcoming. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving meal at YH Dim Sum. Honestly, this might become our new holiday tradition. Of course I was late taking a picture... the second the food came, the family went in! Hours of operation on Thanksgiving: 11am-2pm --Old Post from previous visit--- We've been to YH Dim Sum three times now and every single visit has been spot on! Each time we've tried different dishes and honestly, everything has been delicious. Fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. Love the family style meals! We like to share our food, so it's perfect because we all get to sample each other's meals. The vibe is great for family, date night, or just grabbing bites with friends. Bonus points: they've got happy hour on drinks Monday-Friday, 5-7pm, which makes it even better. YH Dim Sum is the first Dim Sum place i have had the pleasure of going too and its simply the best. It perfect captured the asian culture that i grew up watching endlessly when i was younger from anime shows & the atmosophere and food is even better than i could imagine. From countless dishes like the short ribs , dumplings & lomein noodles i always find something new to try each time. The Salt & Pepper shrimp is an AWARD WINNING appetizer that they serve and it honestly is so fulfilling i think it could be its own entree! I typically don't like to leave negative reviews specially for restaurants because I know how hard these restaurant owners work. But yesterday with an exception, I went there with a group of girlfriends for a Mother's Day dinner. The service was super slow. Our waitress never brought our water despite we asked for it multiple times after she took her order and brought out the first couple dishes she disappeared for a good 30 minutes. We had a flat multiple people down to get their attention. Which is wild because it was not busy! Then I asked for a Sprite three times and never received it in the end they brought me a child size to go Sprite cup, which I did not ask for. The gratuity was added already since we had a party over six people however it wasn't mentioned in the original bill, so we thought that it was not included therefore, we added an extra 18%. I feel like this experience was lacking a lot of professionalism and training. Hopefully this restaurant would be able to improve soon because I do enjoy eating there and the food is good. read more

YH Dim Sum is a vast and expansive restaurant typical of the large dim sum halls common in California and Singapore. I went during the week for lunch, and it was relatively quiet. I hope to return for dim sum on the weekend. Service wa friendly and attentive, and the selection is incredible. As I was alone I decided to stick with the lunch specials, which are a great value and provide a ton of food. I started with the hot and sour soup. It was delicious and fresh, with soft tofu and freshly cooked mushrooms. The sour was spicy but nuanced, one of the better examples I have sampled. I then has the Yummy Chicken, which earned its moniker! White meat chicken was stir fried with asparagus and mushrooms in a delicious spicy sauce. It was a very filling and enjoyable meal. Had a tasty experience. We started with a couple apps the salt & pepper shrimp and egg drop soup. The soup was so great and enough for 4 people. It had veggies in it making it a hardy soup. The shrimp were good just wish the seasoning stuck to the shrimp more instead of scooping it on. We then went into some dim sum. The broth in the soup dumplings was very flavorful I wish I could just a get bowl of that! The truffle shrimp steamed dumplings were good and hit the spot for any truffle lover. I enjoyed the fried shrimp balls they were the same great filling I'm use too just without the crunchy wonton strip exterior. The roasted duck was also tasty. As this restaurant is affiliated with the YH Seafood restaurant in Orlando, I had high hopes--that place is renowned for quality and high style. This YH Dim Sum restaurant is not quite as fancy but still a very inviting, sleek, and spacious, purpose-built interior. There is a family/banquet menu with multi-course options for six or more people so you know they're courting the banquet business, too--a good sign of a serious Cantonese restaurant. But what people come for mostly is of course the dim sum (though they have other Cantonese dishes on the menu as well). My experience was a bit varied in quality so I'll just go through them one by one: --Shanghai soup dumplings. Not good. Tasted as if from frozen, soggy, fell apart, little flavor. I have in fact had better ones that WERE store-bought frozen and I steamed at home. --Fried pork dumpling. Very generous in size, flavorful, a bit oily though. --Fried sesame balls. Good-sized, clearly home-made, tasty. --Turnip cake. Perfectly fine and a larger portion than from Yummy House and most other dim sum places. So, overall good. I don't know what the fuzzy happened with the soup dumpling but that was an absolute fiasco. Everything else was solid, service was prompt, friendly, but not intrusive. A must order starter is the appetizer salt and pepper chicken wings, huge crispy wings topped with the salt and pepper topping that I could eat by spoonfuls and found out they actually sell it separately to go, but a warning it's a lot of cilantro so if you have the gene that make you hate it then definitely this is not for you. They have the best soup dumplings I've had in Jax. For dinner last night I had the baby bok choy with mushrooms and it was delicious, hubby had the salt and pepper pork chops which were crispy and fried to perfection and also generously topped with the S&P mixture which is minced fried garlic, green onions and lots of cilantro with jalapeño's all of this equals ultimate umami deliciousness. All entrees are large portions and plenty to share and served with white rice. Wow! I visited this location a very long time ago before it was transformed into YH Dim Sum & I am thoroughly impressed with the transformation! The dining rooms are stunning, the bar- gorgeous and the service, phenomenal. We went to try the Dim Sum and we are already planning to return for dinner! The menus are extensive! I know it is tucked back, out of sight- but this is a definite gem to dine at. I can't wait to return! We have eaten at Yummy House in Tampa many times and were happy they finally made it up to Jax. Around the table we had Wonton soup, Pork and shrimp shu mai, Crispy egg rolls, Peking duck, Mongolian beef, House fried rice, Sesame chicken, and BBQ pork dim sum. Family style - everyone enjoyed the food. The duck was the star of the show while the sesame chicken was a fierce competitor. The fact that the last piece was just as crunchy as the first was impressive. Peking duck is served 2 ways here only. Traditional steamed buns, sauce, with onion and cucumbers. The other way was a salad which was excellent. It was a substantial bowl enough for all 6 of us to share with walnuts, craisins, grapes, greens mix, roasted duck, and some crispy wontons. The dressing was excellent and apparently made in house as the recipe was a secret - yes, I asked. If that were a meal option, I'd be all over it. The third way which they do not do at this location is soup but consider me intrigued after that salad. All the food was great - Everything was seasoned perfectly with nothing overpowering at all in any dish. Service was fast and friendly. The dining room is huge - with I think 3 different areas. Being a dreary Wednesday night, it wasn't very crowded. Spread the word, let's keep this place in Jax. Great evening !! My only feedback for improvement is to dim the lights a tad for dinner. We love the food there. I have been looking for authentic dimsum and found it! Although it is pricey but I think going there once a month is doable lol. The Roast Duck, fish porridge, and steamed pork ribs soo delicious and not oily. I haven't tried everything yet but do not like the Shanghai Dumpling cause the shell is too thin and breaks apart when I pick it with chopstick. Taste wise, I say regular dumpling is better. Our server was awesome but there are some other servers that are not as attentive. Maybe they don't understand the word "napkin" and "chilli oil" lol. They responded yes when we asked for them but never came with the items. We had to wait until our server who came again then fulfilled our request lol. I wish we remembered her name. Our server was great, but the rest of our experience wasn't. Pulling into the parking lot, someone's 7-series BMW was parked right at the entrance. Had to have been an owner over-compensating for an obvious shortcoming as I'm positive the car would have been towed otherwise. The inside of the restaurant was clean and large, but doesn't have enough tables so conversations echoed. Someone about 3 tables over had someone else on speaker phone and it was really, really loud. No one from the restaurant asked them to silence their phone or take their call outside. The food... not as expected. We started with crab rangoon, which was not a hit. $10 for 6 tiny rangoons that were very oily and had cold spots in the middle. The sesame chicken did have sesame seeds on it, but was really fried pieces of chicken that had the consistency of an overcooked mozzarella stick and seemed to be covered in honey. Whatever the sauce was, the pieces of chicken literally stuck to the plate. The spicy schezwan chicken was good, but not at all spicy. Overall, although the service was very good as was one part of our meal, I don't think we'll be back. read more

That's a damn good sweet an sour chicken !!!! It stays crispy ! The sauce is also sooo good. Very pineappley. Drinks are crazy here but strong and tasty. Purple tiger is a must have. They also make a pretty good mojito. Only thing i wish is that the servers were a bit more informative. But things come out quick so you're not hungry once you order. Very clean and nice place! Heard about this new dim sum place and was super excited to try it out!! We had a party of 9 including 3 of my best friend's kids and there wasn't a wait on a Saturday. We went around noon!! So happy we went! We were greeted promptly and seated. The restaurant is very reminiscent of traditional dim sum restaurants as they have the typical round tables. But they don't push the carts around unfortunately. I think a lot of the places here no longer do that service. It takes away from the charm of dim sum restaurants in my opinion. We ordered the following: Chicken feet - 9/10: one of my favorite items and I enjoyed how easily the gelatinous skin came off the bones. So easy to eat! The flavor was incredible too and the sauce coated every piece of the feet. It had jalapeños with the sauce but wasn't spicy. Definitely try it once, but if you don't like certain textures, may not be for you. Stir fry beef lo mein noodles - 10000/10: the kids had this and we were offered some to try and it was an explosion of flavor! My husband tried it too and loved it! The flavor was like a umami firework on our palettes and we were actually craving it when we left the restaurant haha. The vegetables were stir fried perfectly crisp and balanced the heaviness of the noodles. Get this dish! You won't be disappointed! Steamed beef ribs - 9/10: another one of my favorites! The meat fell off the bone so effortlessly and was super tender. The flavor reminds me of the braised beef ribs that my mother cooked for me growing up, so it was nostalgic. It was hearty and warm. I loved the braised flavor with the pepper sauce. Stuffed eggplant - 9/10: My husband always gets this at dim sum restaurants and it's usually a hit or miss but they nailed it here. The eggplant melts in your mouth and the shrimp flavor takes over and leaves you with a nice, delicate flavor. It is a bit greasy but oh so worth it! They provide you with chili oil/ soy sauce dipping sauce so definitely try the sauce! It was a little spicy but delightful and had a small kick. Pan fried chive dumplings - 9.4/10: husband and I absolutely enjoyed this! The chive with the beef was flavorful and you can taste the aroma of the chives. It went beautifully with the beef! The dumpling skin was crispy and golden as well! Abalone seafood steamed dumpling - 10/10: my other favorite item! I love abalone and it can get a bit rubbery and chewy if not cooked correctly. Here the abalone was tender and steamed to the right consistency! I believe the filling was shrimp! Nonetheless, it was delicious and I had four of them haha. Steamed Crystal shrimp dumpling - 7/10: kind of flavorless to me but the texture was good and the shrimp was tender. I wish there was more ooompf!!! in flavor. It's called "Crystal" due to the glass like, transparent dumpling skin when steamed. Ube drink - 6/10: husband rated this and said he couldn't really taste the ube. Gorgeous restaurant, very attentive & friendly staff, fair price point. These are my top take aways from YH Dim Sum. Saturday I was looking for dim sum/dumplings. The top two choices were between this place, yh dim sum, or go somewhere I've already tried nearby and like. I decided to try something new and come here. There is Plenty of free parking, and a gorgeous, open restaurant with big windows and loads of natural light. I loved the way this restaurant is set up, it's very pretty, and not overly loud once inside. You can carry on a conversation at your table just fine, even with a full restaurant. Great perk! Glancing at the menu, the prices were very fair. You would think walking into the restaurant and taking everything in, it would be pricier, but it isn't! Very nice surprise. Another notice about the menu, we were a little disappointed there weren't more dumpling/dim sum options. We were in the mood for that in particular, not necessarily large Chinese entree options, but that is on us for not knowing or looking at the menu ahead of time. No big deal. We did order the soup dumplings which was my favorite thing I tried here. Also ordered the corn egg drop soup (feeds 3-4 people, family style soup options) The corn egg drop soup did have great flavor, but also a decent amount of cornstarch - (just a heads up). Lastly we tried the spicy Szechuan chicken entree. Not super spicy if you are worried about how hot the heat is. This dish is heavy on the vegetables which I liked, but my friend wished there was more protein vs veggies on this dish. Place was clean with bar waiting area available. Waited by the most attentive & patient, JORDAN who explained their process & gave very good recommendations & adding to an overall POSITIVE experience we hoped for. It's amazing to think that when we moved to Jax about 10 years ago there were only 1 or 2 dim sum places in the whole city. Fast forward to today and we have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to dim sum. No matter where you live in Jax, there's a great dim sum place nearby. We tried the newest dim sum spot for lunch today; YH Dim Sum located at 10460 Avenues Walk Blvd in Southside Jax. YH Dim Sum has your classic offerings like shu mai, chicken feet, etc. But they also have some new (to me) and exciting dishes that will have me coming back. No clanging steam carts on this day, but everything came out hot and fresh. Here's the full rundown (some items not pictured): Chicken Feet: These chickens did not skip leg day. They were huge and delicious. Nice chewy texture. Wonderful sauce. Seafood Abalone Shu Mai - these were shrimp shu mai with a piece of abalone speared through the top. Tasty shu mai. Charcoal and Egg Yolk Buns - I didn't quite know what to expect with these. I bit into the bun and it exploded with a custard style egg yolk. It was sweet and delicious. Baked Bird's Egg Tart - Another sweet offering. An egg tart topped with some kind of gelatin. Loved this. I should've gotten two. Minced Beef Congee - This comes in a huge bowl and served family style. Like was like a warm hug on a cold day. So comforting. Baked Pineapple Bun - Your classic baked sweet bun with a pineapple custard filling. Always great. Shanghai Dumplings - AKA Soup Dumplings. These are served in tiny tin pie trays for easier eating. These were tasty. Steamed Beef Short Ribs - Delicious sauce. Great with some white rice. Snow Pea Leaves - Sautéed in garlic and a great bite in between all these savory dishes Steamed Beef Balls - Delicious and savory meatballs steamed to perfection. Mango Mochi - Mochi covered in coconut and filled with chunks of sweet mango. A great way to end the meal. Quick note: In chatting with the host, Dim Sum is only served during the lunch hours. Located off Philips Hwy to the left of the hidden Walmart . It was the old Makato . Plenty of parking and lots of dining room. Tables for small and large parties available. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. We ordered dim sum from the menu. (Great idea, btw with laminated checklist and markers). We started with the BEST CONGEE IN JAX! No kidding. I could have put it on a flip flop and had it. Lol We also ordered fried turnip cakes, chicken feet, abalone shumai, charcoal egg rolls ( sweet roll with egg yolk runny), beef balls steamed, beef short ribs, shanghai dumplings ( mini soup dumplings), pineapple buns, mango mochi, oolong tea , garlic snow pea leaf, birds nest egg tart( custard), and accoutrements. I agree with that other most recent review about doing pickup online order recently and items are missing. The receipt taped to the bag showed my name and phone number but showed items in the list which I did not order. And then the receipt showed 2 less quantity of an item that I ordered 4 of. Their main website also has certificate expired message, which is bad. So, pretty much, I overpaid them (and gave them generous 25% tip) for 4 items which I am missing in the online pickup bag. This is very shady. I feel like if I did check the receipt and state what it was, I think they may have just said "well, the receipt says this. So it is all we have to go off of". Sorry, but please do better for others as a business. read more

I have come here twice now, and while I do get my dim sum fix, I feel like the quality of the food is pretty average. I'm never really blown away, but it's also not too bad. Certain dim sum dishes are better than others - for example, stuffed eggplant, Egg tarts, charcoal egg yolk custard buns, hargow, fried shrimp balls. I haven't been too impressed with the Shanghai dumplings (xiaolongbao), Malaysian spongecake, beef balls, or spare ribs. The entree dishes have been okay in my experience. The salt and pepper tofu was good, but not your typical breading for this dish. It's a very large restaurant, service is always prompt, but it is cold inside. Overall worth a try! read more

Treat yourself to some of the best dim sum Jacksonville has ever seen. S&R is authentic and delicious. My photos (and lack thereof) serve as evidence of how good it was. Highlights: Salt and pepper shrimp Lo bak go (turnip cakes) Honey walnut shrimp Pineapple buns Chinese broccoli We tried lots more and dishes were good pretty consistently good, I look forward to going back. Took my kiddos here for a lunch date. We had calamari , combo fried rice, and a few dim sum dishes. The service was great and food was awesome! The kids really enjoyed themselves and loved the fried shrimp balls, shumai, and the fried rice. If we're in the area again, we will definitely be back. read more

This restaurant opened a week ago. They have their own private free parking lot. We missed the dim sum service so ordered a la carte. We tried the Peking duck 2 ways which started with the traditional presentation followed my a tasty salad with the duck in it. The dressing was a chef's secret. ( We asked!) The mango dessert tasted great where the mango's flavor shone through. The restaurant was modern, clean and spacious. The servers were very attentive and made good suggestions. Next time I would like to try their hot pot offerings and of course, their dim sum service. read more
