Food is definitely just left over food they don't sell. Not fresh at all just marinated heavily. Also the main reason the Man that always takes the orders is the rudest person ever. He is smug and acts like he hates me when I come in.. like don't you want me to come back and spend money? I noticed one day when I was eating the Man was super kind to a group of white ladies that came in his whole attitude changed. Answering respectfully even bringing them their food asking if they needed refills like he was their server. I go here from time to time because it is the closest Chinese place to my house, so when my family visited and asked where they could get some food from, I recommended Chan's. About 30-45 minutes later I got a call from my sister telling me that she went to open her egg roll bag and there was a roach in it!!! How disgusting!! I was embarrassed and felt so bad for recommending my family to go here, I will NEVER eat here again. Imagine how disgusting their kitchen must be. She called them and told them about it and all they did was offer a refund for the egg rolls (2$), mind you they got way more than just egg rolls, and the restaurant offered to replace the egg rolls... they should've offered a FULL REFUND, and who would want any replacement food after seeing that?? The health department needs to come inspect them ASAP!! read more

I choose Chinese restaurants the same way everyone does, based on who has the best fortunes in their cookies. If I'm ordering for two people I make sure that there are two cookies in the take out bag. If I'm ordering for one, I tell them I'm ordering for two (my "insurance cookie" just in case the first fortune's a dud.) There's a tiny place in the Outer Outer (not a typo) Richmond who gave me the best fortune ever and I'll go all the way out there on a day I need a good one. Cheaper, faster and easier to read my horoscope, you say? I don't believe in them. There's even a ritual, lest the fortune not come true. Men who wear the same hat to every baseball game for good luck should not be rolling their eyes right now. No cookie until after you've eaten, the cookie gets broken in the middle and you have to eat the cookie no matter how stale it is. We have to read our fortunes out loud and if I think your fortune was meant for me, I get to have it. Or we can share the good fortune. If you're one of those people who crush the cookie into tiny pieces just to extract it's treasured fortune I will judge you harshly and think you probably club baby seals too. This was my fortune at Chans, "The person who can move a mountain can begin the cleanup." What?? That's not a fortune! That's punishment or at the very least an admonishment not to move mountains which is a bad fortune even as a metaphor! Especially as a metaphor! If I were reading this fortune in California, I *might* think that it was an educational fortune about the environmental perils of erosion and the consequences of mountain moving. But I wasn't. I was in a state that drains swamps and then seems surprised by the alligators in their backyard. I am aware that some people do not choose Chinese restaurants in the same way that I do. Let me fill you in on the best Chinese food North of Main Street. Just six blocks North of downtown you'll find this Springfield community favorite. Chan's has been in the neighborhood for as long as I can remember. Chan's can be intimidating. Chinese in a transitional neighborhood, not normally a good sign, but at lunch time you'll find the parking lot full and the drive thru line packed. The most surprising and perhaps reassuring thing about Chan's is the absolutely impeccable dining room and food service area. I have never seen a cleaner takeout place in my life and it's like this on a consistent basis. More important is the food is quality. It's what you would expect from a good takeout place. I normally get sesame chicken with lo-mein, they will even make it spicy if you ask. There are daily lunch specials for under $5.00 and even with lunch portions you'll have leftovers for dinner. The only thing that bugs me about Chan's is they don't accept credit cards, so bring cash. I'm so suprised there is no review for Chan's and I'm happy to be the first one to let everyone know about this hidden gem. read more

Great spot for some mind-blowing Chinese food. Incredibly inexpensive, almost criminal. Place has real plant life inside - not the best furnishings, but clean. In an area of town that isn't known for safety, but maybe that's part of the draw? Worth the trip. read more

The new owner is terrible. I have been going to that restaurant since I was like 10 years old and now I'm 35 and no one could pay me to ever eat there again. They are clearly there to get rich off of the urban community. There is a young asian woman worker who is rude and nasty. I watched how differently she treated other customers depending on skin color. Please stop eating here The New owner needs to get lessons from the original owner because she does not know how to keep customer service up to par. Customer service is very important to me. That restaurant does not have good customer service at all. Please find another Chinese restaurant to patronize. I'm on the search now for a new and tasty Chinese cuisine. Pretty good egg roll. That's all I ordered. I don't live in Jacksonville so that's probably all I'll ever order. But it was pretty good.

When restoring a house in this neighborhood with no working kitchen, Chan's was a lifesaver. 18 years ago, it was an affordable option and the owners/servers never sneered at the way we looked after a long day of demolition or painting, scraping old paint or yard work. We have a great kitchen now but every now and then when exhaustion overcomes us, Chan's is still our back up for solid American Chinese food. I'd really give it a 3.5 rather that just the 3 because the food is reliable and made fresh and the people are unflaggingly polite and friendly to us. Shrimp and lobster sauce is always yummy and the triple delight still leaves me smiling. It's a humble building but I haven't found chinese take out close by that surpasses this. It's a guilty pleasure but when my neighbor, who is actually from China, orders their food, then I know it's legit even if it's not fancy. read more

For less than a five spot you're set with a styrofoam container packed to the brim with one entree, a side of either fried rice, steamed rice, or lo mein, a drink, and the iconic fortune cookie. For a dollar more, you can add a 2nd lunch special entree. They have a convenient drive through menu if you don't want to get down, but it's best to go down and say hello as the staff always greets you with a smiling face. I like the rib combo at CHANS . My complaint is with the QUALITY. On Several occasions they have put day old ribs on the bottom and covered them with 2 fresh ribs. although Ive confronted them, they still continue to serve day-old ribs. Advise that you look at your order before leaving read more

The food is alright compared to other quick Chinese food stops. The employees have always been nice. The only things that bother me is that the entire restaurant reeks of propane gas. There new location is the best. On a whim I pulled into the lot and said why not! I entered a very clean well appointed restaurant, found a table and went straight to the men's room to wash my hands, the place is immaculate, quiet, well lit and inviting. The hot and sour soup, was perfect, the shrimp and chicken with vegetables was tasty and hot (temperature) egg roll delicious..... The little things are what makes it good. Real Chinese mustard on the table, right next to the container of sweet and sour sauce. No packets of bland pseudo sauce here. These staff is friendly, and efficient, always present but not hovering.
