Service is great, but food here is terrible. The station where you get your ingredients and sauce is messy and makes the food look unappetizing already. The first time you get a plate and it's fried up, sure there's a novelty aspect to it (selecting your own food, sauces, seeing the food cooked in front of you while you idly stand by in line). But even then, the taste was mediocre. Go for a second and third time, and the only reason why you're going back for more is to fill any hunger and make the $15 per person charge worth it. A truly rip off price for bad food. Take your money to any other Chinese restaurant and it's probably enough to order two different dishes per person, and I guarantee you you will come out just as full, but the food would be ten times better tasting. read more

They have weird hours and are CLOSED FROM 2:15-5pm... I usually try to stop in for a late lunch or early dinner and get denied. It's not like the menu changes, I don't understand why they close?! Most big buffets that have actual menu changes don't even do that. Grrrrrr. read more

My husband and I typically enjoy Mongolian grills and we just moved to Salem, so thought we would try this place. Now I realize that things are just opening up as we come out of COVID19 precautions, and they have taken the proper steps to allow for social distancing with markers on the floor and arrows to show you what direction to walk. They have a nice selection of meats and veggies and you can also have noodles all thrown on the grill with your choice of sauces. The sauce choices are lacking in my opinion, no teriyaki, no peanut sauce, no spicy add ins. They put it all into bowls for you and give it to the cooks to put into the grill, I'm assuming this may be a change from pre COVID times, but no big deal. We got our meals and sat down. Despite the ladles full of soy sauce, oyster sauce, hot oil, sesame oil and garlic, my meal was quite bland. My husband fared a little better in this department, despite asking for the same sauces I chose. I was able to get a chili garlic sauce from the waitress which did help. My husband and I were talking about what we could do to doctor up our leftovers for the next day, because there was quite a bit left, and we asked for to go containers. We were told that was not allowed. When we asked the waitress for a reason for that was she explained that since it was all you can eat, this basically was to prevent people from getting several plates made and taking home tons of leftovers. She apologized for the rule but it still didn't change that we paid $17 each for a plate and were not able to take our own leftovers from the one and only plate we each had made. I mean, they were just going to throw it away when we left. When we arrived, there were no signs explaining the price or all you can eat or anything. They did have a to go option, which I guess in hindsight would be the better choice since then you would get to keep all of your food. Reading the reviews before mine makes me confused, because I love this restaurant! I've been a customer here for years and am always satisfied with the food I get.. and many people must agree because on weekends and nights this place is poppin (which explains the long lines). What do you all want, them to "hurry" and burn your food? The only reason I could see someone disliking their food is that they didn't do a good sauce mixture for their food before getting it cooked. My food is always very flavorful and cooked perfectly. I love the wide variety of toppings. The chefs do a great job at cooking the food efficiently and quickly. It's not their fault the line is long and taking forever, it's the amount of customers. I do get irritated a little when I come in on a random weekday at night and it's packed, but that's not Chang's fault. It's only their fault because their food is so good. Also, the waitresses there are always super friendly and provide great service. I do wish the prices weren't so high for dinner, but since people can get as many servings as wanted it's understandable. But I do wish there was an option for those of us who just want one trip and have a smaller appetite. read more

I should have read the reviews before I went here but I didn't. I have no problem waiting for my food when a restaurant is busy but it would have been nice to know ahead of time that it would take an hour for my food to be cooked. My wife had an hour for her lunch and we thought a mongolian grill place would work best because it's always fast. Good thing she was a few people ahead of me in the line, it gave her the opportunity to scarf down as much as she could in the 5 minutes she had to eat. You're probably asking yourself why not just get a "to go" container, good question? Answer: "under no circumstances do we allow food to go." That response was a first for me. When I explained to the waitress we were extremely limited on time her response was that she'd go talk to the manager. I watched her walk from our table to another table and start busing it; no attempt to talk to anyone. So since i didn't eat I can't rate the food but on customer service and dinning experience, I give it a solid 1 star. Generous, I know. read more

I originally preferred the former Golden Tent because the atmosphere was nicer. That started gradually changing at first because the hostess was downright rude then topped off when there were ants on the buffet line. I switched to Chang's and have always had friendly servers and the food is top notch as well. I've never seen it anything less then clean. The food is always filled with no empty containers, the servers are very attentive and the guys running the grill have always done a great job with my food. I love a good Mongolian grill, unfortunately this one is not one of those. Their limited hours ensures you will always have to wait forever to get your food cooked. They don't clean the food bar often, and I don't think they have actually cleaned the restaurant ever. The place is really dirty. I wouldn't let my dog eat here. read more

Great concept, and great food. You go through a line and select your food. You can pick various meats, seafood, and vegetables. Then you create your own sauce from the variety of flavors available. Finally you bring it to the counter, where they grill it up while you watch. You then take it back to your table to eat it. It's a great place and if you don't love your food the first time, try it again with a different sauce. The sauce can really make or break the meal. read more

The food item selection such as meats and vegetables are very limited. The meat sticks to the pan (frozen) or the pieces are too large to fit in your bowl. The fish looks sad, looks like it has been there for a long time.... the pineapple is canned, should be fresh. The wraps are stale and chewy. The restaurant is so very dated - holes in the wall never got fixed. The worst is the cleanliness or better, the lack thereof. Table and booth benches are sticky, the floor is a mess. When dining late, you will eat while looking at the dirty brooms, mop water, etc. Not appetizing at all! The staff definitely has an attitude and masters the art of making you feel unwelcome. I got asked to pay while I'm still working on my pre-meal soup. If the restaurant advertizes to be open until a certain time, then I expect to be treated better until that time and not like I'm in the way of the cleanup crew. The cook is doing a good job and is the only person in that restaurant who understands the term customer service. Go to the Mongolian grill in Corvallis instead. read more

My family of 7 ate at Mongolian grill tonight, and spent almost $100. We had to wait in line for almost an hour, drinks were never refilled, waitress was almost non-existent. When we got our free ice cream at the end of the meal, it was all completely melted. When I mentioned it upon going up to pay, the "manager" said they would only take two drinks off of the bill. I asked for additional, but was declined. The only bright spot was the hostess that seated us, and processed our bill. She showed genuine concern over the fact we had a bad experience. I was fortunate enough to have a Chang's by my home in Seattle years ago and became instantly hooked! After over ten years in the Rogue Valley I am tickled pink to be back in driving distance of Chang's! I have had dreams about this place for years, there is nothing like it. While there are other Mongolian Grill type places, Chang's is the only one that is reasonably priced, all you can eat, with excellent veggie, meat and sauce selections and they fry your food to get a little crunch which we all know brings on flavor. The other MG's I've been in in Oregon don't fry, they douse your food with water to steam it. Your meal is all you can eat stir fry, choice of two soups, rice and wrappers if you want and even dessert - you can't beat that!! read more

Glad to find this one shortly after Golden Tent Mongolian disappeared. Staff were friendly and attentive. Choices on line are very good, but I think cilantro isn't always there. Queuing up is tight - You're going to have to make some new friends - as it butts up against a frequently used service door. Tables, booths, chairs and "buffet" space (not sure what else You call that where You select Your food) all appeared clean. Decor still seems kind of new. I think plum and soy sauces are available at Your table. Sriracha, nuts, and sesame are available where You pick up Your cooked food. They'll ask if You want rice and wraps and later, ice cream. read more

We came to eat here for a casual lunch with my sister. It was an interesting place, different than the other Mongolian BBQ places I have been, but it was pretty good. The building has seats like a diner, which is an interesting change of environment for this kind of place. The server was very nice and did her job very well. As far as the food, there was a nice selection, there was more types of meat than other places, and pretty much the same vegetables. A negative was that there was a small selection of sauces, but they provided tortillas and a bottled sauce to use, so that made up for it. read more

I'm very disappointed after trying to have my meal here tonight. My first plate was burned and I didn't know it until after I ate a few bites that there was grill gristle mixed in. I went back for another plate and watched them scrape more gristle off the grill into my bowl because they were resting fresh veggie bowls in the food catch as they put meat down first. I let the waitress take my second plate away because it was just as bad and tried one more time... third plate was reasonable but the rice at my table had gotten cold and it made my meat cold and they didn't want to bring me more. I didnt eat the third plate either and I felt bad for wasting, but they don't have a way to warm food off your plate. I refused to pay for my meal after speaking to the manager and he told me "if you ate some I have to charge you, sorry." He was smiling and apologetic about the grill issues, but insisted I needed to pay for taking bites. There was also a major language barrier and he had to have a translator and I'm sure details were lost in translation. Waitresses were at least polite. The food had potential if it weren't ruined. Sorry, but I won't be returning to this location. The manager doesn't really belong doing business if he can't communicate with his customers and meet the standards of which restaurants are expected to. read more
