Haven't been here in a while! The ambiance is good and the service is friendly. The prices are reasonable and the food doesn't take too long to arrive. But the food was sub par tonight. My egg flower soup was peppery and the barbecued pork was chewy. Maybe they were just having an off night, but nothing stood out to me as particularly delicious. Went for the lunch special specials. Wife got the daily special (sweet sour shrimp, pork Chow Mein, pork fried rice) and i got the combo 4 (see menu photos). Restaurant had 10 to 12 tables full. Our order was taken quickly; hot tea came out right away. Moments later, our food arrived. Good quantity for the price and was filling. The menu items were fresh, tasty, and did not disappoint. Place was clean and the servers were friendly even though they were clearly busy. Upon my request, they brought out hot oil and chili paste. They do have sriracha. Personal preference though for golden crown chow mein instead (less celery). Oh, the fortune cookies are fantastic, something to look forward to as we finished the pot of tea. I meet my mom in Salem for lunch and this time she wanted Chinese and I found this place. I saw multiple groups of people already there when they were opening, which I thought was a good sign. The had a steady stream of customers when we were there on a weekday, and several were clearly regulars. We could definitely see why. Our server was just so super friendly. She was clearly meant to interact with people. Service itself was great, prompt. Nice clean place, including the restrooms. I love that they give you tea with your lunch - we drank 2 pots. It's just your standard Chinese fare, which tasted really good. The prices are so much better than I'm used to and I appreciate a good combo meal. It's a lunch combo but still pretty good portions, definitely enough for those leftovers you know you'll want later. It was a solid meal at a good price with great service. read more

Has been our Chinese go to restaurant for 30+ years, since 1994 when we moved to Salem. We first noticed the change when we ordered our usual Szechuan beef. We told our server something was off and she informed us the restaurant had a new owner who brought in new recipes. We different dishes a couple more times and each was worse than the previous so we decided the we were done. Normally, I hate leaving negative reviews. However, this one is directed to the new management of the restaurant. Eight of us went there for New Year's Eve dinner arriving at 5:30. We were told there would be a delay because of all to go orders being called in. The dine in customers was not that as many as usual. What we didn't expect was that it would be two hours before we would even be served. It appeared that they were prioritizing to go orders before the sit down customers. I and my family have been coming here for decades, I can remember when I was kid what a treat it was when dad or mom said we were ordering dinner from LumYuen. They had the best pork fried rice in town. It was that way for years, but I have noticed some changes over the last several years. It's just not as good as it was, PFR is not as good service is ok but just in general it was not the same. I used to drive by at dinner time and the parking lot was nearly full, it's not anymore. I stopped the other day because I wanted to see how it was. I spent $27 on two items, BBQ pork noodles and BBQ pork egg fu young. All they did was add a few chopped up pieces of pork to the gravy and the BBQ pork in the soup looked terrible. Usually nice and pink and tender and a lot of it, this was not very attractive, looked very old no pink very dark and not much flavor like I remember same with the fu young not very good really dense and hard. I don't remember having to put that much pressure with my fork to cut through it. Very disappointing. This has been going on for the last few years it seems, all of us have noticed it's not as good as it used to be. So we have not went very often these days. Higher prices and much lower quality is not a good way to keep customers especially long term one's. Especially these days with so much competition out there. I found several other places with much better food for the same or lower prices. Plus we have Thai,Philippines, Vietnamese choices now. I think these five star reviews must have been paid for, or maybe they don't know any better. I will be spending my money somewhere else. To bad. read more

We stopped here for dinner as a family, the food had no flavor. Family ordered the combination plates with pork fried rice and I swear the friend rice had no pork, no veggies, no flavor. We ordered kung pao chicken and spicy pork and almond chicken, all dish was mostly veggies with little meat and lacking flavor. I ordered a lemon drop and the drink came in a really small cup and 2nd drink was even smaller. The kung pao chicken we asked for no peanuts, the waitress read it back to us with no peanuts and still order came out with peanuts, she took it back and said she forgot. We also had to remind her about our drinks. She was nice, but had to be reminded about our order. I do not recommend this place. read more

My husband and I used to come here all the time because I am obsessed with the pork fried rice. It has been a while since we had been here and decided to go last week because I was craving the rice. We met with friends and the food was awful. The rice was very bland and had no flavor. The bbq pork was nothing but fat and you couldn't eat it. The service from the waitresses were great and they made sure we were taken care of as far as service goes. I was so disappointed in the food and then went home and seen a post that they had changed owners and seen all the reviews about the food. I get it, but why change the recipe?!? Great food, better than I expected! And they added lots of spring green onions in my fried rice like I requested. The men's bathroom in the back was all crooked wonky and the light in there didn't work for some reason. Totally dark except for a little bit of sunlight via the tiny window. read more

Love the salt shrimp, it's my favorite, service was great, we were so happy it was open Christmas Day. Lum-Yuen is the only good Chinese food in Oregon, at least in my opinion. Ambiance is good too. Can't beat a movie and Lum-Yuen. read more

Quality and flavor is NOT good like it used to be 10-20 yrs ago. Stale fried wonton, rice even tastes "off" (white and fried.) We have tried once a month for 3 months (take out) and all three times none of us could eat our meals - and they are not cheap. Not recommended. Won't be going back. read more

First time here although I drive by daily. Parking Lot is always full, so here we are. The restaurant is clean, we were seated immediately. The waitresses got tea and water to our table almost as soon as we sat down. I ordered the number 3, and my husband ordered the number 5. We also ordered the potstickers. Our meals did come with soup we both had egg drop. It was hot and delicious. We received our potstickers, which were also hot and delicious. Once our food arrived we dug in. My family and I have frequented this restaurant for decades. The food is usually consistently good but today I'm writing about something absolutely horrific I experienced last weekend. After leaving a cash tip on the table, we saw the owner of the restaurant pocket the tip. We called the restaurant later that night and asked our server if they received the tip and they said they didn't, noting that they had thought it was unusual we didn't leave them a tip since were generally generous. Apparently this is a common occurrence and absolutely disgusting. If you come here and wish to leave a tip for the staff, please hand it directly to them and don't leave it on the table. To the owners: if you are running what appears to be a successful restaurant and have to resort to stealing tips from your hardworking wait staff then re-evaluate if this is the right business for you to be in. To the staff: please don't stand for this. Confront the owners and contact the Bureau of Labor & Industries. First timer. Not for me. We were there almost 2.5 hours and I'm not sure why. The service was extremely slow, not sure if it was our server or something we ordered.
