My boyfriend and I stopped here during a road trip from Southern California all the way up to the Pacific Northwest Peninsula, and we're currently making our way back down. We always try to find good local spots along the way, and I'm so glad we decided to stop here because this place was SO good! There are plants everywhere, which I loved, and it just has such a welcoming feel to it. I got the steak and eggs and asked for my steak medium rare, and they cooked it perfectly! Honestly, probably one of the best breakfasts I've had in a while. We also got the honey peach latte and had it made half sweet, and it was amazing. I'm also a sucker for fresh baked goods, so when I saw they had fresh-baked cinnamon rolls, I had to snag one for the road. Overall, we're really happy we decided to make this our stop. Everything was great from the food and coffee to the atmosphere and service. We're definitely saving this spot for the next time we're road tripping through the area. We went back to Black Sheep today to try their breakfast. We were not disappointed; the breakfast is as good as their lunch. I had biscuits and gravy with an egg and cubed potatoes with bell pepper and onion. My wife had French toast. One of the best places I've ever eaten. The food was spectacular, the presentation was beautiful, and the service was second to none. And the prices were so reasonable, which was a pleasant surprise. My husband had homemade corned beef hash, I had a Greek scramble, and we bought amazing French toast to take to the grandkids. My grandson loved it! It is located in a somewhat industrial area, but the cafe is warm and welcoming. They also have two of the cleanest fish tanks that I have ever seen. The service was good, very prompt and attentive. I ordered the Reuben with fries. The Reuben was OK. The meat was shredded. Some of the shreds were way overcooked I could not bite through them while the meat did not have a lot of flavor. The sauerkraut and thousand island helped with the sandwich. The chicken noodle soup will make your eyes shut in goodness and say "oh wow" with the first spoonful. Okay let me start off by saying this is our second visit, we have eaten in the restaurant and enjoyed a delicious orange creamsicle cheesecake when we first moved here a year ago. Today we had stopped by because I wanted a quick reasonably priced bite, I got the Sriracha Shrimp wrap to which I did not know was a cold wrap. So when we got in the car and were home I grabbed the wrap only to be surprised by dripping NOT grilled shrimp juice that made my hands reek still after washing my hands and using hand sanitizer. This was an immediate no for me so i did not eat it but my partner called for me asking about a refund to which he spoke to man, who offered a solution of $5 refunded and they'll remake something for us at no charge . So we drove all the way back to be met with hostility by an older frail gentleman with glasses and a beanie who told my partner "No, I told you we would refund the $5 only" so we drove for nothing after being offered a reasonable solution over the phone. The y serve breakfast all day...so I ordered a steak and eggs. Eggs were cooked perfect to order. Steak could have used a bit more seasoning but was tender and cooked on point. We have been going to Black Sheep since they were serving out of the Santiam Brewery so many years ago. I love that they have their own location. I think it's the best food for the dollar in Salem. Many higher end restaurants cannot top their food. They have a wonderful breakfast and lunch and I wish they were open for dinner. The Reuben and the Greek Scramble are tough to beat. This is my current favorite breakfast - The Classic. I chose the sausage links which taste really good. It's not just potatoes; there's green and red peppers and onions mixed in. A slice of thick artisan bread (I chose whole wheat) with some jam rounds out the dish. A great breakfast can be ruined without great coffee and Black Sheep doesn't disappoint. I've had a bookmark to stop in here for a hot minute. I could absolutely kick myself for not coming sooner! My sister mentioned wanting to try a new place and she surprised me by pulling in. We were required to show our vaccination cards upon entry (love it). The space is small, but bright and open with a full bar and fresh made cookies. Their menu - just wow! Incredible. My mouth watered as I read through the menu. Everything sounded so delicious, it was tough making a decision. Do I want breakfast or lunch? What, there's a special too? We finally ordered and she chose the Beholder Burger (mushrooms, Swiss cheese, house marinaded onions, arugula, tomato, tangy mustard) but subbed a grilled chicken (no charge), and added a side salad. I landed on the Athena Salmon salad (6 oz. salmon on a bed of romaine, spinach, red pepper, cucumber, tomato, red onion, feta, and topped with capers). She enjoyed her sandwich and said the chicken was juicy. My salmon was so tender, cooked perfectly. Honestly, it was the best salad I've had in Salem since I've moved here. I was unable to finish it and savored every last bite I took home. Can I just talk about the sides for a second? Order an entree and get a dollar off a side. Again, which to choose? In addition to the side salad option with multiple homemade dressings, they have hand cut fries, sweet potato (also hand cut) fries, onion rings, cilantro dijon coleslaw, feta & bacon potato salad, veggies & ranch, chips & salsa, and fresh fruit. As if the food weren't reason enough to rave, they throw in a bonus punch card program that can earn you free food, with double punches on Tuesday! If I could offer any constructive feedback, it would be to avoid shouting across the restaurant for customers with sensory issues.
