I truly enjoyed coming here for brunch ñ with my littles. Their food always feels fresh. Which is a must for me. The service is always exceptional. I always get the kindest waiters. I definitely recommend coming here with friends or even with kiddos. It's such a great atmosphere. They have an indoor and outdoor seating area as well as a bar.

The food and beverages at the Taproot were wonderful. We were visiting a precious friend in nearby Keizer and I had researched local restaurants that served vegan fare and also had great reviews. The Taproot certainly lived up to its reputation. My favorites were the strawberry lemonade (really quite amazing), the roasted Brussel sprouts and the hummus and pita bread. The wait staff were wonderful and the prices were very reasonable. We'll be back the next time we're back in the Portland area!

I've been a fan of Taproot Lounge & Café since a close friend introduced me in 2019. Located in a charming 1860 historic building in downtown Salem, it's always had great vibes and a solid focus on smoothies, fresh juices, smoothies, and plant-forward plates. They have full breakfast menu as well and my friend says their ciders are solid. Their Brussels sprouts dish has long been my favorite. I never skip it when I'm in town. So when I met up with a visiting friend yesterday, we headed there right away. Sadly, this visit fell short. The Brussels were bitter, under-seasoned, and oddly undercooked, totally unlike the dish I loved. We also tried the Spicy Bowl, which felt underwhelming. The carrots and snap peas didn't have the usual vibrant crunch, and the sauce was more of a whisper of spice than a real kick. It just didn't hit the spot. On the bright side, my smoothie was delicious as always, this place consistently nails those. PARKING NOTICE: Important if you're visiting after July 10, 2025! Downtown Salem is ending nearly 50 years of free on-street parking. Starting July 10, 2025, you'll have to pay for street parking in the Downtown Parking District. Parking garages will still be free, but permits will be needed for employees, students, and residents. More details, look up an article on Statesman Journal about Parking Change. Taproot is still a place I love and want to keep supporting, but I'm hoping this was just an off day for the kitchen. I'll definitely return for the smoothies, but maybe I'll ask if the Brussels are having a good day first.

Overall really good experience! Food was great, it came out in good time and was served nice and hot! Service was great, the server we had was patient and frequently checked in on us! Ambiance is comforting and welcoming. There's a lot of seating and it is good for an early morning breakfast, mid day lunch or even a nice place for a drink with friends. Would definitely return!

Had some late snacks and drinks. The service was excellent. The drinks were well prepared and presented.

I am not sure if they changed management, or if it really depends what you order. This place was recommended by a friend- and my Mom and I went there in the fall of 2024 after an appointment we had in Salem. It was sooooooo good! Both of us loved what we ordered, and we were pleased with our coffee drinks, etc. However, the 2nd time I went about 10 months later- I took my husband and we were both disappointed with our meals that we ordered for seperate reasons. His dish was the "Israeli Couscous Salad" and unfortunately we didn't see that description in the menu that said "tossed in their house spicy sauce". He said it was way too strong, like someone overused red chili sauce or crushed red peppers and it made his stomach turn and he lost his appetite and only ate about a quarter of it- and we intentionally did not elect to take our leftovers. ANd my dish, I ordered the "Chorizo Jalopeno Hash" but apparently when I subbed the chorizo for veggie sausage it confused the chef and so they subbed my country potatoes for TATER TOTS. So, I got served a plate of tater tots, with some jalopenos, onions, cheese sprinkled over top and my eggs were forgotten. I ate my fresh avocado and the veggie sausage, but that is basically all I ate of that food that would be served in the County Fair. It was not appetizing at all. This dish we did not eat, or take leftovers which says a huge amount for me and my husband. ANd, we even paid extra for the veggie sausage. It was such a slap-in-the-face in the quality of food and such a drastic change from my first visit with my Mom to my 2nd visit with my husband, and we don't go to Salem that frequently, so I'm not sure if I will revisit it and give it another chance to be honest.

Oh my god this meal was so fricken good. The combination of the sweet potato's (that were cooked to perfection), the seasoned tofu, and the chili beans mixed with the avocado and tomato was like that scene in ratatouille when remy was giving his brother emile cheese and grapes from Gusteaus kitchen with the fireworks going off in his imagination. That literally happened to me. As a life long vegan, I approve this message

Great little spot! Good food, friendly service. Nice tap list, tasty cocktails. Within walking distance to my hotel when I'm in town.

Very healthy and vegan friendly (if you want it). All the food is delicious and savory made from scratch. Had the pesto chicken sandwich and it was superb. Açaí bowl was also delicious and any drink out of this world. Also have a dog menu and caters to dogs.

The stark difference in our second experience was night and day, making this visit truly exceptional. The cozy and romantic aesthetic of the restaurant remains fantastic, and the food and drink menu is still absolutely amazing. This time, however, we had the pleasure of being seated downstairs in Tiffany's section, and she was beyond stellar. Tiffany is the definition of exceptional service. She gave us a complete, helpful rundown of how they structure their tapas menu, offered fantastic recommendations, and was incredibly attentive throughout the evening. We had a great time chatting with her and her professionalism and warmth instantly made our return worthwhile. Her suggestions were perfect--she expertly helped us select a great wine and recommended the black ink pasta, which was a showstopper. Cozy Taberna, when paired with service like Tiffany's, is easily a 5-star restaurant. From now on, we will only return if we can be seated in her section!

The downtown location is convenient and has a lot of parking and food options. It is a secure building with strong and fast wifi, plenty of space, and quiet booths for meetings. There are multiple printers but they're all out of paper. While there are a lot of spaces for working, most do not have outlets. My new house is incredibly rural, and upon realizing how laughable satellite internet is, necessity called for a more reliable form. Co.W is about 45 minutes away, but the most cost effective coworking space option, so they easily won. They offer a variety of membership options from offices and dedicated desks, to flex seats where you just settle in any available space. All plans offer some conference room access, use of the printer, and even free beverages and snacks. It's easy to sign up online and you enter via the two available doors using your cell phone, so I'd actually used the space for a good few weeks before I ever met the owner. I did have some questions I sent via email, and he always responded promptly. The interior of Co.W is gorgeous. I don't know what the space used to be, but it's an incredible old building with exposed brick, gorgeous hardwood floor, and even a fireplace! My favorite spot was along a little alcove with a big window and skylight. There is plenty of room with both an upstairs and downstairs space. They have tables where you can stand, or more traditional desks, and the chairs were all quite comfortable. I really enjoyed the culture of Co.W and everyone I met here was so nice and friendly. Working there, I felt like a very cool urban gal with the convenient downtown and just off the highway location. The whole area is very walkable and I enjoyed many lunch breaks wandering the streets and checking out adorable shops or picking up goodies from excellent eateries and bakeries (Hello Little Cannoli!). My reason for discontinuing use of Co.W was through no fault of theirs. After working there for about two months, (a maximum of maybe eight days a month), the city notified me that I would be required to purchase a parking pass. Not only that, but the parking pass only allows parking on the roof of the parking garage. Figuring in the cost of the pass with the price of membership, my cheapest coworking option was suddenly much pricier. Adding in gas, wear and tear on my vehicle and so forth, I eventually moved to Alt in McMinnville. Now, if I lived in Salem, Co.W would have absolutely remained my co-working space of choice. I might have found an alternative means of parking, though!

I just traditionally like meat. That said, my wife and mother and I came to Venti's for dinner while in Salem. They each ordered the more traditional meat hamburgers and fries. I decided since it was a vegan-forward restaurant, I'd try a vegan dish. You order at the counter and they bring the food to you, so it's a little more like a diner than a "fine dining" restaurant. Our service was good, quick and friendly. The atmosphere is a bit cold, but not off-putting. I ordered the Red Curry Pasta with a Side Salad. Other reviewers seemed to be raving about the red curry, so I thought it was worth a try. I can see why they rave about it. It was excellent! And the side salad had a variety of ingredients, so it wasn't "just a side salad". I tried the avocado ranch dressing and it was fine. Not stellar, but good. The pasta had just the right amount of sauce and was very flavorful. Now to the meat. You might expect a vegan-forward restaurant to have meat dishes as kind of an afterthought. But both my wife and mother raved about their burgers. My wife got the Rooster Burger and mom got the traditional House Burger. With meat. And cheese. And fries. They LOVED the burgers. Well, the vegan gods rained plant based blessings upon us by guiding (some might say .. delivering lol) us to Venti's Cafe & Beer Vault in the charming downtown area of Salem. Upon entering, I first took notice of the whimsical welcoming ambiance inside, sort of reminded me of Chickpea in Vancouver, BC. Also, I had to fight back a smirk when reading about the upcharge for anyone ordering meat based options, I mean it's about time eateries started being vegan by default and adding an upcharge "meat tax" lol instead of the typical vegan-tax we vegans all too often have to incur. It's no wonder the vegan gods delivered us :) to Venti .. given that everything they had to offer was truly divine, which I offer without hyperbole of any kind, just complete sincerity!! The Grilled Cheese consisted of a parmesan crusted sourdough bread with not one but *two* melted vegan cheeses (cheddar and smoked provolone), the Truffle Fries were bold and unapologetic in their truffle-y goodness, the Tomato Basil Soup was rich and loaded with flavor and last but certainly not least, the Vegan Red Curry Mac was really delicious and brought the punch. For the latter, the individual bites didn't feel hot in and of themselves but rather it was the accumulated effect that really left a lasting impression. I think the dish could maybe benefit from a side of vegan yogurt, to add a freshness and help balance the heat but that's not to imply this dish was lacking in any way, it was sooo good! As if that wasn't enough, they also offer a raw vegan cake dessert. Sadly, we didn't get the chance to try as we didn't take notice until after we had already ordered our food. Between the decadence of the food and joyful ambiance, coupled with a charming location in downtown Salem, this will definitely be a place for use to revisit many time over!
