Apparently, unlike the Napa/Sonoma area, Willamette wine country is not known for food, but after…read moresome research, we came across Cozy Taberna, which is a tapas style place in downtown Salem. We reserved on Tock, and it was mostly full on a Friday night. Drinks: lots of local beers are available, but I went with the Pineapple Express: she warned it was spicy, and it indeed was (in a really good way). All of the food is done family style: - Clams Galicia: with tomato, chorizo, bacon broth. This broth as amazing. I literally drank it with a spoon - Pan con tomate: slightly different from classic preparation - more flavorful and heavier on the toppings - Salmorejo: tomato and bread puree, Serrano, jammy egg - like a creamy gazpacho - Grilled asparagus: with whipped ricotta and a cured egg yolk - Squid ink pasta: with hazelnuts, caramelized onions, peppers, and a runny egg yolk, a bit spicy. This dish was my favorite - Honey brined pork chop with a basque piperade sauce The servers were all great about checking in. I would definitely recommend the squid ink pasta and the clams if you're in town!

The downtown location is convenient and has a lot of parking and food options. It is a secure building with strong and fast wifi, plenty of space, and quiet booths for meetings. The cons: It really is quite dirty with a lot of necessities missing. There is rarely soap in the bathroom and toilet paper and paper towels are never in their dispensers... just sat out. There are multiple printers but they're all out of paper. While there are a lot of spaces for working, most do not have outlets. While the drop-in price for CoW isn't bad, it would be nice to see this office cleaned and re-stocked a little more frequently.

Like many, I have been working from home since the start of the pandemic, and with my move to…read moreOregon, the plan was to continue in this vein. My new house is incredibly rural, and upon realizing how laughable satellite internet is, necessity called for a more reliable form. Co.W is about 45 minutes away, but the most cost effective coworking space option, so they easily won. They offer a variety of membership options from offices and dedicated desks, to flex seats where you just settle in any available space. All plans offer some conference room access, use of the printer, and even free beverages and snacks. It's easy to sign up online and you enter via the two available doors using your cell phone, so I'd actually used the space for a good few weeks before I ever met the owner. I did have some questions I sent via email, and he always responded promptly. The interior of Co.W is gorgeous. I don't know what the space used to be, but it's an incredible old building with exposed brick, gorgeous hardwood floor, and even a fireplace! My favorite spot was along a little alcove with a big window and skylight. There is plenty of room with both an upstairs and downstairs space. They have tables where you can stand, or more traditional desks, and the chairs were all quite comfortable. I really enjoyed the culture of Co.W and everyone I met here was so nice and friendly. Working there, I felt like a very cool urban gal with the convenient downtown and just off the highway location. The whole area is very walkable and I enjoyed many lunch breaks wandering the streets and checking out adorable shops or picking up goodies from excellent eateries and bakeries (Hello Little Cannoli!). My reason for discontinuing use of Co.W was through no fault of theirs. After working there for about two months, (a maximum of maybe eight days a month), the city notified me that I would be required to purchase a parking pass. Not only that, but the parking pass only allows parking on the roof of the parking garage. Figuring in the cost of the pass with the price of membership, my cheapest coworking option was suddenly much pricier. Adding in gas, wear and tear on my vehicle and so forth, I eventually moved to Alt in McMinnville. Now, if I lived in Salem, Co.W would have absolutely remained my co-working space of choice. I might have found an alternative means of parking, though!

You order at the counter and then you get a number to take with you and place at whichever seat you choose. Drinks and food both came out really quick. I tried the bees knees which had honey, lavender, rosemary and simple syrup with a dash of black pepper. I did not see nor taste the black pepper but I was a huge fan of this drink. It wasn't overpowering in any of the flavors and the rosemary sprig made it look so cute. I got the breakfast potato hash with no tomatoes and it was a delicious and filling breakfast. The potatoes were so good my group wouldn't stop helping themselves to them. I added some hot sauce as it was in the dryer side but still really good. I also tried the matcha coconut scone. It had a pretty matcha green color but it was hard to taste the matcha or coconut and it was quite dry. Service was quick and friendly. The inside is really beautiful and we couldn't help but do a little photoshoot, so many fun backgrounds! Can't say my order was wrong but a full size salad with less than a quarter of a pear, maybe at best, 5 thinly sliced pear was not enough for this salad. I would expect at least a half a pear for a full salad and they could add option for candied pecans. Both this and strawberry salad could use a bit fun. The dressing was a bit too heavy for pear. Instead of a balsamic maybe do a pear or a champagne vinaigrette . Guess this is why I rarely go out anymore. What one gets one could make at home for a lot less and sadly in the case of this salad, better. The wings were decent but could barely enjoy wings on rooftop on a sunny September afternoon with all the wasps. Again, they try with traps but those don't work if food is present. I would probably give this place another chance and order a pizza, what they are known for. I'd just stay clear of the nw salad if you are a salad snob and stay off rooftop during aggressive wasp season. Restaurants really should change dinning in tipping policies. I'm a very fair and if good, generous tipper. Pre tipping hipster style restaurant rant follows: In my younger days I worked as waitstaff, you know at restaurants where they actually wait on you. Now it seems we just tip to get our order. The tip is treated like a surcharge that is probably distributed equally amongst all staff. One thing I can't stand is pre-tipping at dine in. And I see why these style restaurants only have pre-tipping. Just doesn't make any sense when dinning in. For just having food delivered to your table, you get your own drink when ordering, meh really not worth 20%, this place operates like a glorified fast food place. Just like all the others I've been to. Order and pay for food and beverage, get drink and number and grab a table, they bring food clear after you leave. No one asking if you want more water and probably no refills on soda. At least that was my experience. Not even tip worthy just charge more for your product and don't bother asking on your pos tablet.
