Mongolian food
Shannon C.

Food was pretty good, I've had better tasting egg flower soup,no flavor, wish they had fried rice, it's plain white rice . Only sucky part is they have no gluten free soy sauce.. service was ok,the cooks were working as fast and hard as they could.. this place was very busy! We did come on Mother's Day , our server could have been better.. Ambiance was ok , average.

Veggies and meats! Low carb/keto friendly sauces too

I don't know why this place gets such a bad wrap. I used to go when Changs when I lived in Portland too and enjoyed it every time. They are open for dine in and allow you to serve yourself again, and I received wonderful service. If you're trying to eat healthy, you can't really go wrong here! I typically follow a low carb/ keto diet and you control EVERYTHING thing that goes on your plate at Changs.

On par with other Mongolian grills in the area, good food and service. Recommend two bowls as the single one they give you is small.

The very first thing:…read more When you enter the restaurant, there is a pay station, and it's there that you pay the standard amount per person for the buffet before you proceed to the area with the buffet stands and dining tables. The young woman manning this station was on what seemed to be a very animated, important call in Mandarin on her mobile phone. I put up three fingers, and things deteriorated from there. She asked me something in very poor, heavily-accented English, and then resumed her phone call. When I asked her to repeat what she asked me, she did, and then went back to her phone call. I apologised for not understanding her and asked her to repeat it a third time, and she became exasperated and visibly irritated with me and pointed to the extra charge for sodas on the menu. I then figured out that she was asking me if any of the three people in our party wanted soda with our meal. She had already turned her attention back to her phone call. I put up one finger for one soda, she activated the card reader, we paid, and then she said something equally unintelligible, which I assume was some form of "Enjoy your meal", and looked daggers at me, said something loud to the person on the other end of call, and then looked daggers at me again. So, she is very cross with me, well, angry, really, because her English skills are so awful that I cannot understand what she's saying. She's angry at me for her shortcomings. She's working as a cashier in an English -speaking country, her English should be passable, right? An analogy would be me working in Shanghai as a cashier in a restaurant and being unable to communicate with the customers in Mandarin. I've ordered food in restaurants all over the world, and really, I don't mind the hiccups that happen between two people that do not share the same language; I expect it. No big deal, you muddle through it, and it gets done. I don't even mind that this business tasked an employee with dealing with customers in English when her English skills are so very basic. But, why the anger at me because her English is so rudimentary and so heavily accented that I can't understand it? I wasn't angry about the situation, why is the person at fault angry about it? I don't get angry in France when a cashier doesn't understand my toddler-level French. I don't get irritated in Ecuador when the guy at the airport doesn't understand my miserable attempts at Spanish. It's inexplicable to me that I should be the target of her ire. And if she's acting that way with me, you know I can't be the only one. So, a bad start. The food: Everything seemed a bit old and tired, as if they had made it for lunch, it wasn't used up, they didn't replace it in order to save money, and it had been sitting in the chafing containers for hours, drying out. It was 3:30 PM when we were there. I'm sure everything we had was much better when it was fresh. So, very disappointing in terms of our meals. Putting the interaction with the cashier aside, I cannot recommend this restaurant.

China Buffet 2407 Lancaster Dr NE, Salem, OR 97317…read moreC+ to B- rating It has been a year since we last visited China Buffet and I've done many more reviews on google maps highlighting other Chinese buffets and other restaurants. The restaurant at 3:30pm on a Friday was sparsely populated but extremely clean. Background music was lightly playing, just enough of a buffer to distract other people talking. The serving options (see photos) were fresh and abundant awaiting the dinner hour rush, with the serving area well maintained. The staff quickly removes used plates and refills your drinks. They offered a few fish items (see photos) calamari, oysters, whole shrimp, breaded fried fish, sea bass /bone in, and breaded fried shrimp. As you see the photos, they offer a variety of dishes. From my plate piled high, the fried food tasted better dunked in the sweet/sour sauce. The skewered chicken was thick and meaty with a nice flame cook flavor. The fried chicken pieces had their own seasoning flavor that was hard to identify but acceptable. No old oil aftertaste with the fried food. Some Chinese buffets offer the spring roll or wanton wrapper crab Rangoon the thinner ones.( my favorite) while this establishment offers the egg roll thicker version. They are filled nicely with a slight crab taste. The fried rice, and lo main noodles are an acceptable expectation. The Chinese green bean can range from decent to slightly burnt. For some reason, the seafood salad was drenched in mayonnaise. The ice cream is a disappointment, made with ice milk which lacks the creamy flavor and texture. Pepsi products are offered along with tea and coffee. While we were there, a little girl was sang happy birthday by the staff, the first time I had seen this take place outside of popular chain restaurants. A nice perk for an average Chinese buffet restaurant. If we are in the area, this is a "ok" buffet to dine at. If you are willing to drive farther, others out there are much better.

Unlike most places that make the dish look like a lot by packing it on a small plate, this one had a massive plate and piled it high. Even the kid's meal was the size of an adult portion! My pad Thai was supposed to be a level 4 spice, but it wasn't spicy at all, and it was a bit on the sweeter side -- not overwhelming, but sweeter than I expected. I also tried the house special fried rice, which was gigantic but sadly lacked flavor. I really didn't enjoy it. The chicken tenders were crispy but a little dry. However, the flourless chocolate cake was amazing! I'd never had it before, but it was so rich and delicious. Highly recommend that dessert! I'm giving 4 stars mainly because of the huge portion sizes. The food overall would probably be closer to 3 stars for me, but the portions definitely stood out. As for the ambiance, it wasn't the prettiest place, definitely an old-school vibe, but it was huge and clean, so no complaints there. Service was just your standard, nothing extraordinary.

A noticeable decline at Marco Polo Global Restaurant…read more It is with genuine disappointment that I share how significantly Marco Polo Global Restaurant has changed--and not for the better. Having been a loyal patron for years, I was unaware that the restaurant had undergone an ownership change approximately one year ago. Unfortunately, the shift in management has been accompanied by a marked decline in both service and food quality. Service Concerns Table service fell well below expectations. Our server did not introduce herself, nor did she demonstrate any gestures of hospitality throughout the meal. Twice, plates were handed to us stacked, leaving the guests to distribute them ourselves--an approach inconsistent with professional table service. Water glasses were never refilled, and there was a general lack of attentiveness to our table. Menu Changes The menu has been reduced to a simple two‑sided laminated sheet, a stark departure from the former Marco Polo menu that once offered an impressive variety of thoughtfully curated dishes. Food Quality The food, regrettably, did not meet even basic standards: Singapore Noodles: The most disappointing dish of the evening. I shared my feedback with the server, who later reported that the cook had not seasoned it properly and offered to remake it. We declined. Salad Rolls: Flavorless, with a peanut sauce that was thin, cold, and lacking depth. Broccoli with Tofu: The broccoli was overcooked, wilted, and visually unappealing. The dish was marginal at best. Green Beans with Garlic: Cooked adequately, but lacking seasoning and overall flavor. Vegan Pot-stickers: The one bright spot--excellent texture, well‑prepared, and accompanied by a flavorful sauce. Overall Atmosphere The ambiance felt tired, and the restaurant appears to have lost the vitality and care that once made it a thriving local favorite. Based on our experience, it seems clear that both the kitchen and front‑of‑house staff would benefit from renewed training and leadership. Our server confirmed that the business changed hands about a year ago, and unfortunately, the decline is evident in nearly every aspect of the dining experience. We will not be returning, and it saddens me to say so--Marco Polo was once a beloved establishment in the community.

Absolutely bizarre & absurd lack of service!!! The young man (supposedly) hosting (?) waiting…read moretables (?) was unprofessional, inattentive, flippant, and lazy. Our food took an inordinate amount of time to arrive but when it did it was delivered by a lovely gracious woman. The young man never checked in to see how everything was or if we desired anything. We had needed another 2 sets of flatware since we were 4 and there were only 2 place settings. I was forced to get up and go to another table to retrieve the place settings as our "server/ waiter" was absent. We ordered a chai for my 90 year old father prior to even ordering our meal yet it arrived WITH dinner and was placed nowhere near my father but on the other side of the condiments causing him to reach for it OVER the condiments, while ending up spilling hot chai on himself. My sister asked how this young man's father was, he replied, " he is home watching a game or something he doesn't come in on Saturdays unless he is covering me." If this is indeed the owner's son his attitude and behaviour is even more appalling ! My sister ordered dessert for my father,we had a table full of empty plates and dishes yet this guy did not remove any of them, he just set the sweet among them. I finally asked him to please take them away and even that he did not do immediately. When I asked for our cheque he told me that I must come to the counter. Had this been an exceptionally busy time in the restaurant we may have had a bit more patience but as it was not busy we certainly cannot understand the lack of service nor the very spacey and lackadaisical attitude. To note: upon arrival near 5 p.m today / Saturday as a party of 4 which included my sister & parents, patrons of this restaurant for years, there was only a table of 4 present hence this was not a bustling, busy afternoon. Sadly after our very lackluster experience tonight neither my parents, sister nor I will be returning or recommending Cuisine India !! There are numerous options for Indian food in Salem now.
