China Buffet 2407 Lancaster Dr NE, Salem, OR 97317 C+ to B- rating It has been a year since we last visited China Buffet and I've done many more reviews on google maps highlighting other Chinese buffets and other restaurants. The restaurant at 3:30pm on a Friday was sparsely populated but extremely clean. Background music was lightly playing, just enough of a buffer to distract other people talking. The serving options (see photos) were fresh and abundant awaiting the dinner hour rush, with the serving area well maintained. The staff quickly removes used plates and refills your drinks. They offered a few fish items (see photos) calamari, oysters, whole shrimp, breaded fried fish, sea bass /bone in, and breaded fried shrimp. As you see the photos, they offer a variety of dishes. From my plate piled high, the fried food tasted better dunked in the sweet/sour sauce. The skewered chicken was thick and meaty with a nice flame cook flavor. The fried chicken pieces had their own seasoning flavor that was hard to identify but acceptable. No old oil aftertaste with the fried food. Some Chinese buffets offer the spring roll or wanton wrapper crab Rangoon the thinner ones.( my favorite) while this establishment offers the egg roll thicker version. They are filled nicely with a slight crab taste. The fried rice, and lo main noodles are an acceptable expectation. The Chinese green bean can range from decent to slightly burnt. For some reason, the seafood salad was drenched in mayonnaise. The ice cream is a disappointment, made with ice milk which lacks the creamy flavor and texture. Pepsi products are offered along with tea and coffee. While we were there, a little girl was sang happy birthday by the staff, the first time I had seen this take place outside of popular chain restaurants. A nice perk for an average Chinese buffet restaurant. If we are in the area, this is a "ok" buffet to dine at. If you are willing to drive farther, others out there are much better. read more

Well I usually like Chinese buffets however this place is terrible the food is cold and of extremely low quality there's lots of cheap food lettuce Jello weird salads but only a handful of things that you would get in a regular Chinese restaurant, the food was cold was of not good quality and really expensive for a buffet I should have went to lumyan's spent the same amount of money had two delicious dinners and a whole bunch of food to take home and enjoy the next day if you don't finish your plate you can't take it home at this place I would seriously consider any other restaurant then this one. read more

The food was hot, flavorful and fairly fresh. We stopped by during a lunch rush and the service was really good. My criteria for a buffet is fairly simple. How often do they switch out the food. From what I saw, there was constant motion stocking and restocking the food. read more

Food was okay chicken nuggets were not cooked neither was my donut. I was really looking forward to pineapple but the pineapple was not good anymore.However the service was good asked us if we were doing good every few minutes. I'm writing this review extremely mad, my experience at this establishment was so far the worst in my entire life. First when we got seated I noted that the establishment had a weird smell and noticed the chair wear and the tables were sticky. Also I he rood selection here was really limited and the quality low most of the food was old and stale. Finally the worst part of my experience is when I was getting ready to pay I was held hostage by one of the little Chinese ladies and forced to leave a tip even though i didn't think they deserved it. Pretty decent Chinese buffet. I enjoy the made-to-order grilling. I love fried rice and noodles.

For the price of $15 per person, even my 12 year old, it was way over priced with a very limited buffet. More American and salad bar than Chinese food. For what is available, we will not go back again at this price. At least double the price for a lunch buffet. read more

We figured it's reasonably priced and can't be that bad, right? Well we were soo terribly wrong. Server had a scowl on her face when she arrived at our table. Asked us what we wanted to drink with our meal, I asked for a Pepsi and quickly responded back by saying coke giving my friend no other choices to choose from and walked away. Then going to the food area which seemed decently appetizing. I then filled my plate choosing items that didn't look overcooked. Turned to head to my table when a fresh pan of food came and smelled and looked great. Chicken looked and seemed ok but had a helluva time cutting, then the beef or something they had in another dish was way too spicy just overwhelmed everything else on the plate. As I slowly paced myself my friend muttered something and left quickly. Server came back and refilled the glass and dropped the tab, and was about to ask her a question when i felt my insides begin to twist and get knotted follwed by my throat and esophagus constrict and eyes started to water. She looked at me said nothing and left at that point is when my stomach decided to expel whatever I ate all over the table, which I wasn't fast enough to keep it down. Traveled into town from the coast... 5pm dinner time and all the food was cold and old. Several chicken dishes were very chewy and had excessive skin and other tissues. The General Tsao Chicken wasn't anything like any of the likely 1,000 other Chinese restaurants I've had, very sharp sour, like a bad Buffalo sauce. It's become a regular thing this year for me to grab a friend and come in here to eat no matter your terrible customer service or employees who stand there and watch you make your plate but can't even bring you a drink. But I dealt with it because the food was alright.... until November 6th. Super BAD food. To start there is very little selection like the least we have ever seen. No sushi no hibachi, at least 10% of the little food they do have is American choices like fries and tater tots WTF?! My reason for 1 star is the food was bad not bad like poorly prepared but BAD like everything with dairy in it cheese, salad dressing and fish where all ROTTEN smelled like they soured and the fish was expired for sure. I love this place especially the Jalapeno Chicken, Japanese Chicken, Grilled Green Beans, Breaded Shrimp and Medium Prawns. They always have cold Sing Tao Beer ready served quick. The atmosphere is standard for a reasonably priced Chinese buffet. The service is great especially "Elaine" she always makes sure you have drinks out fast, a new cold beer when needed! My children love to get the chicken nuggets, tatter tots and cherry & lime jello. The place in not fancy but the food is hot and consistent quality. I have visited at least (5) times and even stop for the lunch special. I've witnessed a couple wedding parties and lunch crews having meetings which means it's a great place that supports it's community. I really like it and think it's a great addition to Salem's Restaurant line up. read more

We were here two years ago and it was great but not this time. The food quality has definitely gone down and the staff is not all that friendly. The mall food in Medford is so much better. And cheaper but at least it tastes good. So we have decided not to spend our money here and go to Alberto's instead. Or to the the hometown buffet. Which was not that bad. read more

This buffet was horrible because the food was cold, and had no flavor most food was hard as a rock and wasn't edible (most likely because it was out for a while) and one desert which were some cookies were straight up bought from the dollar store because of the packaging. One person who worked in the kitchen to refill the food was very disrespectful. Me and friend came up to the man to ask where there hot sauce was he looked at me made and face, groaned and walked away.
