By a stroke of serendipity, I found myself on State Street in Orem when I caught the word carnitas emblazoned on the side of an otherwise unremarkable little eatery. I made it a point to check it out after watching a ballet performance at the SCERA theater. As you can already surmise, I was not disappointed. Walking inside I was met by a friendly taquero and tables filled with native Spanish speakers. All signs said thus was going to be good. I chose a combo plate with two massive, stuffed carnitas tacos and a carne asada street-sized taco. Although it was quite tasty, the asada was just an afterthought for me. After pouring on some spicy salsa roja and a guacamole sauce with a topping of onions and cilantro I tucked into the best or at least top-3 carnitas tacos I've ever had. The rest of the best are in California. You can get your carnitas "mixtos" or "solo carne."
