This was an awesome place and I can't wait to return with friends to expand the experience! We just stopped for a glass of wine after visiting a local garden center. In addition to a nice glass of Cabernet and Oaked Chardonnay, we tried the excellent cheese assortment and smoked fish appetizer. The service was perfect. Everyone from the greeter to the seater to the waiter was spot on. We enjoyed the wines and apps very much. Probably a 5 star experience but I reserve those for places that consistently are excellent (my thinking is that a place that is able to do a 5 star job every time should enjoy higher rankings that a place that only gets it perfect once). So I'll update the rating when we return and if it's like it was this last time it's an easy 5 star place. Try this one with a big group of rowdy friends or just you and the love of your life. I have been to Chamard several times and every time I go I am always truly impressed. They are an incredible bistro experience. Between the classic clean New England ambiance, superb service, picturesque location overlooking Chamard's vineyards, and decadent as well as consistently delicious food and wine this place defines dining perfection. I will note that this place is a tad high end in terms of menu and wine pricing, but they use the freshest and what I believe to be as local of ingredients as possible. We love the burger. The meat is always fresh and beautifully seasoned. The accompanying greens are delicious and the fries are out of this world good (somewhere between a cross of a fry and a potato chip crispness). We have also had salads, soft shell crab sandwich (a special), the duck à l'orange, and mac and cheese, which were also delectable, flavorful, and filling, but not heavy. Desserts never fail to disappoint. Chamard also has a diverse offering of wines. The stone cold white and red never disappoint and are appealing to many palates, the Cabernet Franc is full bodied with berry notes and a warm delicate finish, the roses are not overly sweet like many in it's class, but rather delicate and floral, and the chardonnays are crisp and clean without being bitter or unpleasantly tart. All in all you really can't go wrong with anything you select. The bistro offers samples before committing. The best value is order a bottle for the table, they allow you to recork and bring the rest home. My best recommendation is to make reservations in advance (they are on open table). The bistro is not overly big and they are always busy. Wine tastings are very reasonable and are a great way to try wines before eating at the bistro. If you are looking for a classic New England outing at any time of year Chamard Vineyards is a wonderful place to experience higher end dining at its finest. read more

Nowadays, I spend more than enough time at home in front of my computer screen, so a midday break can be a mini vacation. And even more so, when one finds oneself at the new Chamard Bistro, gazing out at the neat rows of grapevines and making believe it's Napa Valley, not Clinton, CT. Next time you're scouring the outlets, stop at Chamard. The menu is classic bistro: gooey french onion soup, a tangy Cato Corner seven cheese macaroni, burgers and steak frites from Four Mile River Farm, a fresh and colorful bibb salad with baby beets. All quite yummy and best enjoyed with a glass of Stone Cold White (just $15 per bottle and take the rest home). Dinner in the airy room is quite nice, too, but you'll have to wait for daylight savings to appreciate the view. read more

Old review: My husband took me here for a birthday surprise. When I saw the lovely grounds, the gorgeous interior and furnishings and found out we'd be eating here, I began to salivate, it really is a gorgeous and special place. I'm all about the food though and I really feel they missed the mark here. I really hope we caught a bad day, but I must be frank. At these prices they need to do better., We ordered strawberries and creme. To say they weren't fresh was an understatement. They were about an hour shy of being tossed in the trash, Covered in little soft bad spots. The waiter should not have served these, the chef should not serve theses. Mac and cheese was tiny and uninspired. Soggy? Boring? White? Why yes. Seemed like everything was prepped the night before and then heated and served. I didn't have the heart to make a stink because husband was so proud that he'd found this little place as a birthday surprise. So I ate. :( The wine was delish. Would def go back for that. read more

Considering the location in the middle of nowhere Connecticut, I was pleasantly surprised to find a vineyard and a highly rated restaurant attached to it. Location-wise, it is a little hard to find since it is off of a residential road but just look for vineyards viewable from the road and a small gate leading up the restaurant. Very close to the Clinton Crossing outlets (less than a 5 minute drive). I tried the burger and croque madame and the pommes frites sides. The burger and pommes frites were amazing, must order in my opinion. The croque madame was good but a little too heavy and rich. Definitely want to come back to try dinner ("main acts" on their menu). Restaurant is cozy and has a lovely view of the vineyard. Wow, this vineyard is so beautiful and the bistro really completes its gorgeous experience. Everything we ate here was impeccable. I was overjoyed to see that the beef in the burger was grass fed and that everything on the menu was scratch made. The burger was perfectly cooked and topped with a delicious mustard aioli. The pomme frites were really uniquely cut and were served with an outrageous roasted garlic aioli (can you tell I love aioli???) My friend and I both got the Stone Cold White. It was a delicious, crisp, refreshing white wine that did not linger on the palate. It washed down the burger quite nicely. I would come back here in a heartbeat. Stopped in here for lunch the other day and was blown away. It was a cold, dreary day, but with fireside seating, the bistro was a warm and cozy refuge. The onion soup au gratin is classy comfort food. The soup itself is loaded with onions and the broth is rich and smooth. The melted cheese on top spills over the sides of the crock and gets perfectly crispy. The croque madam is to die for. Amazing combination of flavors with the Black Forest ham and Swiss cheese. And I found myself using the sandwich to soak up every last bit of the Mornay sauce and egg yolk. I'd like to start by saying that though I love wine, I'm not a qualified oenophile, so this should be taken not as a qualified wine review, but a glowing review of my experience at the bistro. Chamard Bistro is a solid gem on the Connecticut coastline, with all of the charm of a vineyard you'd expect -- rows of grapes, rustic but refined decor, soft music playing and other couples quietly canoodling at intimate tables. We were shown to a small table with two soft high-backed chairs, perfect for settling in for a few glasses and apps. We thoroughly enjoyed the flatbread and smoked fish appetizers along with a variety of their house-made wines. This is far from the least expensive option in the area, but its hard to beat the charm of dining on a rainy afternoon in a working vineyard. It's easy to forget this place is a stone's throw from I-95 and steps from a bustling shopping center. read more

Well, tonight was a special event. A beer and food pairing with Hooker brewery. Two stars is a gift. To begin with, we were given 1/4 full stemless wine glasses of the blonde ale, followed by the watermelon seasonal. To me this seemed a bit on the light side. We were then asked by the, I can only assume manager of the event, if we had toured the wine cellar. She said go ahead and look around, dinner will be served at 5. We had about 20 mins to kill so we took our time looking at the casks, artwork on walls and were just having a good time. That was, until a woman came into the cellar and spoke to us in a tone reminiscent of middle school days when you're out in the hall without a pass, and told us that we weren't allowed in there. It wasn't until we said that Alexis, said for us to take look, that she backed off. Alexis being the one who was apparently in charge. So here is the food review--- long story short, we were served 5 courses along with minuscule beer pairings. In fact, we drank the majority of the beers before the food even got to our table. It was a disappointment. The soup was the first course- gazpacho. Was tasty but a bit too much dill and certainly nothing to write home about. Second course was salad that was difficult to eat with grace due to the lengthy stalks. Third course was one, yes one sea scallop cut in half and placed on a pesto covered slice of crusty bread. A burned piece of bread with pesto, and it was almost laughable- really one scallop? The next course (notice I've stopped discussing the beer pairings, which is what we went there for? The representatives from Hooker could not get the patrons to stop talking, they just talked over everyone, so I really have no idea how each beer paired with each minuscule meal). Anyways the next course was a pork tenderloin, but when the tickets of 75$ per person were purchased, the fact I was vegetarian was made clear and they said they would have another option. The other option was tofu or chicken. Ok chicken??? So I said ok to tofu. Not realizing there was a hidden third choice that only after the other vegetarians at my table were served did I become aware of. But I was too late. It would take the kitchen 20 minutes to get a plate of yummy looking gnocchi my way, so tofu it was. Seriously? This on my plate was the reason I and most people do not eat tofu. It was cold, flavorless and inedible. Plain tofu rubbed with some spices and slapped on a grill for 30 seconds. Wow. Anyways the the last course, NY style cheesecake. Expecting that a slice of thick heavenly cheesecake was heading our way at this point was a joke. We got what we expected, a small round and what looked like store bought basic cheesecake was next and last. We left promptly and did not stay for a glass of wine, did not stay to enjoy the surroundings, we just wanted to leave. I spoke with the woman in charge about my concerns and how this did not even come close to meeting my expectations. I have done several food and beer and wine pairings and this was by far the worst. Worst food quality and quantity, worst customer service and what we came for- to learn about the beer and the food, well that was a wash. The chef didn't even come out to discuss his food preparations. They said he was too shy. Well, he should be shy after that mess of a performance. The management has to get their act together if they want people to return. 35$ maybe is what I would have paid for this, but still would have left disappointed. The woman did give me a $25 gift card to come back and get gnocchi off the main menu. This is where he second star comes in. Seriously Chamard, this was pitiful and if I were you, I would be embarrassed. This could have been an amazing evening of delicious food and educational beer pairings. Instead it was a comparison of why someone got 1 1/2 scallops when we only got 1 and why someone got wine when we were offered none. At least make the beer pourings even for goodness sake. I won't be back probably ever. Hopefully, if they do this again, they will read my review and take to heart how they made a customer feel. Not very good and it could have been a lovely night. It was all done wrong. Good luck Chamard. Hopefully their regular dining experience is better. We went to get a pizza afterwards because we were still hungry. Over 200$ for three people. I was a here a few years back when they first opened. We did a tasting and then split a cheese plate and the Croque Madame. We thought it was pretty good and a nice addition to the place. Yesterday we returned for a dinner and got to experience how well this place has developed! The food was fantastic. They still had some of the items we saw before, but they also had some amazing specials. We started off with the octopus as an appetizer. It was so tender and delicious. For entrees we got the soft shelled crabs and these wonderful venison tenderloin medallions. Best cooked and seasoned venison I have ever had. The food was just amazing. Shamelessly licking your plate in public amazing. It is a little bit pricey and we did leave a tad hungry, but this place has definitely made my "special occasions" list. read more

My sister brought me here for lunch today, celebrating our seeing one another for the first time in a year, so she wanted it to be something special. I was not sure what to expect from a Connecticut winery's restaurant, but I was game to give it a go. I should learn to be less of a snob, since the meal we had was superlative. To start we each had a glass of their wine, with her taking a white, and me taking a rosé. While I did prefer the white, the rosé was not bad, and quite dry. For our meals we decided to go halvesies on a burger and the croque Madame. The burger was easily one of the best I can remember halving, with a very tasty patty, well seasoned and with great texture, along with caramelised onions and a great brioche bun. The croque Madame was even better, with a light bechamel and beautiful melted cheese over the slices of ham between the slices of toast. I loved this place! My sister and I were doing some outlet shopping down the street and yelp came to the rescue to find a highly reviewed restuarant in the area. I had been to the vineyard before but had no idea they had a bistro inside. It's a little hidden to the right when you walk in but the decor inside is exactly what you would expect from a winery; tons of wine barrels all around used as tables and the decor. I ordered a glass of their Stone Cold White which is almost juice-like so it's super easy to suck them down often and quickly! :-) We were craving the cheese plate though it was a little pricey for what you get (our neighbor table had it) so we opted for the flatbread and gnocchi. Both were equally fresh and delicious. For dessert we split the apple gallette which was AMAZING. Definitely check this place out if you're in the area or spending a day at the vineyard. read more

We came on a Saturday afternoon for lunch and were were so impressed by the layout, decor and most importantly the food and wine. The menu items all pair perfectly with their wines. Almost every dish had some type of unique cheese. I ordered the burger which came with a "cave aged cheddar" that had our whole table on our phones looking up what this was! The burger was cooked perfectly and was delicious. The side salad tastes like it had just been plucked from their garden! The tables and wall hangings were all all made from wine barrels which was super neat. The only odd thing was that they asked if we had a reservation, and when we said no they seemed kinda iffy about it and said they could fit us in. There were maybe 3 tables seated at that point and only a couple others that came while we were eating, so not sure what the no reservation issue had been. read more

We had a very good experience except for a minor snafu while being seated. There did not seem to be a host/hostess which left a myriad of servers pulling duty. The food was delicious. The asparagus leek soup was perhaps one of the best I have had. It was served piping hot and full of flavor. Had an unexpected, delicious meal at Chamard yesterday after shopping at the outlets (around the corner). Given this vineyard is one of the most scenic, highest quality producers in CT, it's nice to see there's finally a food option here. We were impressed with the menu - lots of options including cheese boards, salads, soups, sandwiches, and entrees. I enjoyed the french onion soup with a side of brussels sprouts. I know, cue the stomach bloating, but hey, it's what I wanted to eat. I eat what I want, I'm an adult. The brussels sprouts were delicious, served shaved and accented with dried cranberries, pine nuts, and carrots. The french onion soup in my opinion was good. Not sure what bacon was doing in there though. The wine and dessert were the highlights of the meal. I had a generous glass of Cab reserve as well as a comped sample of the ice wine. Ice wine/port is really the reason to go to CT vineyards, usually a sure bet. Chamard's is one of the best I have had. Their trio of chocolate mousse was silky and rich. My mom enjoyed her chocolate boule. We both had half to take home, as we were stuffed. The only thing preventing a full five stars was the din of chatterbox drunks. We heard all about weight watchers and untimely highway deaths. Not exactly what you want to hear when eating cheese and drinking wine. I know, we all like to kick back, and I don't begrudge the "fun", just wish the bistro had a little sound absorption within all of it's beautiful decor. read more

They serve light fare like sandwiches and Pommes Frites along with their house wines, along with a few larger dishes like pork chops and steaks. They also have some lovely meat and cheese platters and fresh baked baguettes to go along with their wine pairings as well. The scenery out the windows is quite nice, and the place itself has a more upscale feel than most restaurants in the area. It's definitely a great place to go for date night. read more

Elected to go inland for lunch with a friend. We drove down the driveway and I felt like I had been transported abroad! The trees were blooming after a long winter. Inside we were greeted, they found space for us as we took in the decor with the barrel tables that overlooked fields of vines. We split a bottle of white. Most in the Bistro were priced $24-30. We had grilled cheese, Mac and cheese that came with a salad. We started with a small cheese platter. We were not rushed. We took our glasses out to the lower patio and took in the view of the pond fountain. We walked the grounds snapping photos! The food was very good and beautifully presented, the staff attentive, the parking was fine. There is a blend of padded and wooded seats. We did not do a wine tasting. Driving up to the vineyard was so pretty and beautiful!! I loved the vibe of the place. They have so much land on the property which is so nice. They have seating outside and inside for the bistro which is nice! The service was a bit slow but didn't make it for an awful time because it was only one waiter. The prices are pretty pricey for this place. I don't think the prices are equivalent to the quality. I think they definitely can drop prices a bit. But the wine was amazing!! Complex platters of fine meat and cheese accompanied with fresh bread, honey, and fig spread provided endless scrumptious combinations. The service was spot on and thoughtful from start to finish. The space is modern and well-appointed and it looks like there is a beautiful front private room for dining if you were having a special dinner event there. The main dining area has beautiful light and rustic furnishings. The front wine tasting room is spacious and rustic as well. The food was really the star here. A bit pricier than other CT establishments probably, but well worth it. The portions are large and the food is a modern American/French mix. The restaurant also highlights classic New England dishes like clam chowder and makes it their own by re-imagining the broth and adding paprika oil and bacon brioche croutons. The frites were also a real standout, accompanied by a roasted garlic aioli. These were some of the best fries I had ever tasted. We also tried three red wines, each of them distinctive and full of depth. I would definitely go back and try more with some small plates soon. Living in Brooklyn, I have a plethora of choices for great food so it was a real treat to travel elsewhere and find such a high grade establishment. My girlfriend and I visited Chamard recently for lunch on my birthday. It was our first time here. We had an awesome experience!! We sat at a high top with a great view of the grapevines. Our waitress ,Jenna was super! We ordered the Camembert en croûte which was delicious and super decadent. We both ordered the burgers which were delicious and perfectly cooked. The fries were some of the best I ever had served with a delicious dipping sauce. A bottle of estate rose complemented our meal perfectly. I recommend the Stone Cold White, and honestly everything on the menu looks so good. We came here yesterday on a girls day, and shared the Mediterranean appetizer and Pom frittes (so good!!), and I had the burger; the beef was so fresh and the flavors so creatively combined. It was louder than we would have liked for catching up with old friends, but because of the rain, the excess people inside can't be helped. Spotted two wedding parties in the bistro as well!
