I had originally ventured into the area to have dinner at a separate restaurant but found that they were fully booked so I wandered around, looking at a few menus, before deciding on Chalet Gregoire. Chalet Gregoire was packed as well and I was luckily able to find seating after getting directed towards a table at the pizza restaurant across the street (which I believe are under the same owner). By the time I was seated it was roughly 10pm. For my entree, I originally ordered their foie gras toast with fig jam but found this was sold out (understandable) and instead ordered their french onion soup. It was rich, cheesy, and good overall but I had wished there was more onion and slightly less bread. For the main course I had their coq au vin, which to those unfamiliar is chicken stewed in red wine, served with a side of potatoes and carrots. The meat was extremely tender, juicy, and rich from its braise. The carrots were good but the potatoes were underwhelming and I wished they had been mashed or at least cooked more thoroughly. For dessert I had poached pear in red wine and blackurrand sorbert. The poached pear itself was good and was complemented nicely with the included red wine sauce. However, I found the sorbert to be too icy and ,when sat next to the warm pear and red wine sauce, melt quicker than I would have liked. I was not particularly fond of this and wish I had picked something different. Friendly and hard working staff with phenomenal pricing but I found the food to be average with some highlights here and there. read more

Our only let down in the Paris. We meant to go to another restaurant a couple of blocks away but it was full for the evening. Chalet Gregoire was my second choice based on my Yelp research. For 4 stars, I expected better. For apps, we got the onion soup and the frog legs. The soup was lukewarm and lacked flavor. I've made better at home. I was really disappointed because onion soup was one of the dishes that I really wanted to have in Paris and this one was not very good. The frog legs were okay but not great. They were breaded, fried, and then sauteed with a sauce, which made the breading soggy. The entrees were also fairly mediocre. The duck breast was tough, overcooked, and lacked flavor. The beef stew was better. Prices were more reasonable than other places, but for the quality of food, I'd rather pay more and get better. read more

My daughter and I dined at Chalet Gregoire on a Friday evening in January. Even though it was late-ish (around 10 pm), the place was hopping, and we got the last remaining nook table in the corner. Despite the all the bustle in the restaurant, we were served promptly and cheerfully by a waiter, hostess, and proprietor, who brought different parts of our meal at different times. We went for the basic fondue Savoyarde, which was delicious and ample. My daughter also greatly enjoyed her tiramisu desert. The layout and decor of the interior were friendly and cozy, though just a little bit cheesy with some of the Alpine elements (like a big billy-goat picture over the back wall). It was still Paris, not the Savoie, but all the "chalet" trappings were nice enough. Pricing was reasonable for Paris. In fact, unlike a lot of places that serve fondue, they offer a bit of a discount when you order for two. We also really appreciated the warmth and brio of the staff. The waiter identified himself as a Parisian but also a Berber, and was delighted to engage me in conversation about his background. The hostess dropped a few Italian phrases into her conversation with us, so I'm guessing she wasn't your standard Française, either. We departed with handshakes and well-wishes all around. The Latin Quarter is so touristy and so packed with restaurants that both food and service at them can take on a samey-same, aloof feel. When you stumble across a place that offers good food and also makes you feel like a human being, it's worth five stars in my book. read more

I regret spending one of my few dinners in Paris here. The friendliest exchange we had was at the door, and afterward the service was non-existent. The chef apparently lost our order, so we waited 45+ minutes for lukewarm risotto and another 5 for a shrimp and scallops dish. Which was inexplicable since the scallops were overcooked by half. No one asked if we wanted bread, more drinks anything in the interim. Or the dessert we'd ordered at the outset, which was just as well. No apologies for the delay. After a friend recommended this restaurant to me, I decided we would come here for a Valentine's day dinner that didnt cost us a ridiculous amount of money. It's in/near the Latin Quarter and on this street there are an abundance of restaurants all priced extremely well where you get Entree+Plat+Dessert. It's a cute little restaurant and the staff was attentive. We got there around 7:30 and it was still pretty dead at that point..it didn't start getting busy until 9:30-10pm. I ordered the formule that was 15.90€ (there are also ones for 11.90€ and 19€) Entree: French Onion Soup -pretty standard. I did enjoy it but once again it was a little too salty for me and not cheesy enough. Plat: Salmon with a Thyme cream sauce - the salmon was cooked very well (the worse thing is an overcooked piece of salmon). The cream sauce perfumed by thyme was a great complement for the salmon as well. The thing I didnt like about this dish was that the salmon was served on a bed of shredded carrots and cauliflower and some other vegetables. It was like steamed or boiled and it just seemed a little out of place. Dessert: Creme Brûlée - mehh this was average. They were probably all pre-made and stored in the fridge until someone ordered it, It was cold and the sugar topping was rock hard. I just let my bf finish it. My boyfriend got the formule for 19.90€ Entree: Leek and Salmon roll - in my opinion this was just too leeky..so a little more salmon and less leek would've been nice. Plat: Magret du canard - this was really really delicious. best dish of the night. the potatoes were amazingly seasoned and crispy and the duck was delicious. Dessert: Apple tart - it was average nothing special. like i said before i think they just pre-make all their desserts and leave them there. we also ordered a demi of a white wine and it was decently-priced. Dropped in for lunch with a few friends visiting me in Paris. I tried the confit de canard, which was delicious (and also my first time trying it). The skin was slightly crispy and with each slice of duck I ate, some delicious fat oozed out and I could dip the meat in it. My friends got the beef bourgignon, jambon et fromage crepe, goat cheese salad, and chocolate mousse, and liked it all. The crepe looked a little limp and soggy to me. The service was a little too slow for me. I've been to many other Parisian restaurants and they have been much quicker. We went here because of the reviews and because this place was labeled as "modern Européenne". Maybe by modern they meant the food style started with the modern art in the 19th century. The food was not bad but it wasn't interesting either. We ordered frog legs, escargot, and steak. The steak was over cooked. My cousin and I found this cute little restaurant around the corner of our favourite street in St.Germaine. The venue is quite unique, quirky and has a French/ski cottage feeling. I came into this restaurant without any expectations and didn't have the time to read the reviews when I came in. Luckily I haven't because there are quite mixed reviews and didn't want to judge straight away. We both chose a Starter and Main Course (fixed price for 12.90 €) from the menu card (lots of varieties!) and I picked for my starter the Onion tart with cheese and for my main the Beef stew in red wine sauce with potatoes. I was really surprised by the quality and taste of the food! I loved the main course and I was so full afterwards :) Staff: Hmm, the two middle aged waiters were a bit odd but in the other hand quite attentive. After going to 58 Tour Eiffel last night, we found Chalet Gregoire refreshing. My wife had duck confit and I had the boeuf bourguignon. The onion soup felt warm and tasty on a cool Christmas day. We arrived at 7:30pm and were the only people in the restaurant but by time we left at 8:30 it was completely full with a line of people waiting outside. Food is delicious and affordable especially in popular St. Germain area. Friendly, attentive service, cozy decor and wide variety of menu selections. We had the tasty lamb shank and chicken in mustard sauce, both good portions, fresh and full of flavor. Also enjoyed escargot and vegetable soup as appetizers. Plenty full but make room for amazing dessert: pear/raspberry sorbet and awesome warm apple crumb & vanilla bean ice cream. Highly recommended and we will be returning very soon. read more

This quaint looking and attractively decorated bistro is meant to remind you of the French Alps, which apparently inspired the cuisine. The food here is barely passable, but not true and possibly not honest. We ordered the soupe a l'oignons, a favorite of ours. This version was not awful but it had almost no onions. The cheese was melted into the soup but not broiled, so no lovely caramelization. The bread was soaked completely, and was disintegrating. What self-respecting chef would be proud of that? We had the chicken, which was decent, as were the potatoes accompanying it. Very simply made, but no sauce. A bit dry. The confit of duck had a sauce that was ok, but the peaches cut up into it were canned. The confit could have been prepared anywhere and simply reheated by the restaurant. Normally I wouldn't think about that possibility but with everything else going on here, it made me wonder. Prices were low. You get what you pay for, so often in life. read more

Chalet Gregoire came up. We came in and got friendly service right away. We couldn't find French onion soup on the menu, so we just asked for it and the waiter said no problem. We got a couple Kronenbourg's as well. The soup was terrific. Much better than any I've had at home. Only problem was it ended up being 12€ per person which seemed quite steep. For the price for a 3 course lunch this place is not bad especially in the expensive St. Germaine area. For appetizers we had the crepes and onion tart and beef buorginion and calamari in tomato sauce for our entrees. For desserts, we had the creme brulee and chocolate mousse. My daughter had the salad with blue cheese and tomato, if you like blue cheese- this is for you. My husband had the ribs and frog legs, they were tasty. His green beans, however tasted like they were grilled on a gas stove.I had the beef which was a bit chewy but good flavor. We were SO disappointed in the desserts, we had read on yelp the creme brûlée was amazing, but it tasted OK and the apple crisp tasted like plastic. So I went in here and found the atmosphere and the staff to be very comfortable and friendly. I immediately hoped that they would have some nice food and that I'd be able to give them a four star review. Normally I don't give better. Five it is though. The staff was wonderful and the food was even better. I'm an escargot fanatic and really enjoyed theirs. I followed it with the fisherman's pot - and honestly haven't had a more flavorful seafood stew anywhere. They have just the right mix of flavors in this wonderful tomato-based sauce. My only complaint ... I was full before I was finished. Despite being completely full, I took on the dessert that I'd chosen at the start of my prix fixe meal and it was phenomenal. This place was simply wonderful. It's this little restaurant off a more popular road and because of this a man waves people in by the door. We were looking for authentic french cuisine and got just that. He staff was friendly but not intrusive and we got our food quick. The menu is a pick 3 course menu, for an actually really good price. My friend's appetizer was cold inside and her steak was tough. The Bearnaise sauce was served cold. This seems to be a tourist trap - there were no locals there when we visited.
