Keychain Station

Chagee's Grand Opening! Didn't expect to spend 5 hours in line for tea... I came here for the free gift with purchase - a jellycat inspired Chagee plush tote! If you order 2 drinks you get to choose between either a plushie tote bag or 2 coasters while supplies last. I attended the grand opening events for Chagee at La Jolla UTC & Brea. While I expected to wait a while I didn't expect to wait in the extreme heat for 5 hours - I will not be doing this again. I met some very friendly people in line though which was a nice surprise! There was a DIY keychain station where I got to pick out a lanyard & 3 Chagee charms. This was a very cute idea and I appreciated the additional gift. Once inside I noticed that there were only 3 cashiers taking orders which probably contributed to the long wait. After my order was placed the drinks were quickly made and ready to go. My favorite was the Boya Jasmine Green Tea Latte as it was fragrant and very easy to drink on a hot day. I also liked the Peach Oolong Tea Latte. I substituted the whole milk for oat milk on this drink and I will most likely do that again. They are also selling blue/red Chagee blind box tumblers for $30 instead of $40 during this grand opening weekend. I got one of each and both had a gift card inside! ( kind of wanted the plush animal though.) This Chagee location is located in the Collage Culinary Experience at South Coast Plaza near Paradise Dynasty, Bruxie, and Bloomingdale's. There's an ample amount of parking and I can see myself returning to this location if there's not a long line.

Steep Thoughts: Florence's Quest for (Her) Perfect Black Milk Tea Black milk tea: 1.5/2. I ordered the Roasted Black Tea Latte, less sugar, with regular (whole) milk. This drink is smooth and pleasant, with toasty and nutty notes. The taste of the tea comes through well at this level of sweetness, and the flavors are balanced. My main gripe is that there is apparently no way to reduce the amount of ice in this drink, so it does tend to be on the watery side. Other drinks: 0.5/1. The drink selection here is very small and curated. There are pure teas, tea lattes, lemon teas, and a tea frappe. Docking half a point here because the prices are above average for what you get in my personal opinion. Ambiance: 0.5/1. Chagee definitely knows how to do branding, as the decor is elegant and in line with their other stores. This shop is inside South Coast Plaza next to Paradise Dynasty near the Collage food court. There is some seating inside even with the small footprint of the shop, which is nice. I have to subtract from my score here though because of what I consider an incredibly poorly managed grand opening, forcing people to wait outside in direct sunlight during a 100-degree heat wave and not providing some type of wait-list or order management system. With the amount of hype around Chagee's grand openings, one would think they might anticipate the turnout and plan ahead to help support customers' experiences. Service: 1/1. Order at the counter. Drinks came out pretty quickly when considering the number of orders the shop was processing when I was there. Total: 3.5/5

Toasted oolong was pretty good but I don't think the matcha powder was high quality Twas just okay

We came to the grand opening and got cute key chains and chagee branded coasters. I ordered citrus refresher and I really like it. Only waited 20 minutes and service was nice.

Came to Chagee's grand opening for their tote bags. There was only one cashier taking orders in the beginning which made the wait longer than it should have been + organization could have also been better as there were receipt mix-ups a few times. Thank you to the workers who did their best to prepare drinks while it was so busy! I always order a boya tea latte which tasted better than the Century City location as the jasmine aroma is dispersed evenly throughout the tea. A little sweeter than usual which is okay with me! :)

Tea is decent but the line isn't too long but they forgot our order had to wait almost an hour.

The Moon Coffee is a really cute cafe that is decorated head to toe in cutesy stuff. Jellycats, knickknacks, and most importantly, great seating. I strolled in, as I always do, to get my flavor-of-the-week matcha. This particular day, it was a strawberry pistachio matcha. It's always consistently good. Great sweetness, good milk, and perfectly balanced between bitter and grassy. I'm very happy to have a matcha spot in this part of Costa Mesa. Now, that being said, what prompted my review was actually looking at their retail shelf. There was coffee from Loquat, DAK, and Tanat just to name a few. Heavy hitters in the specialty space for sure. I had mentioned to the barista behind the counter whether they are hard-focused on supplying great pourovers or espresso. She said they didn't really use those coffees on the shelf in the store itself, but offered me a doubleshot as a sample! I was so grateful, and it was a very nice interaction to have with someone. I think I'll come back and have a coffee next time! The Moon Coffee, the Coffee spot for Matcha nerds? I guess so!

I ordered the banana hojicha latte with regular milk. It was decently good. I love how they use real banana, it always enhances the flavor by a lot. I do wish the hojicha was a bit stronger, but that is my personal preference. I'm not sure if it was diluted by regular milk and would have stood out more with alternative choices. I do think the drinks here are on the more expensive side, so I don't think I would come here as frequently. They do have a good amount of seating and free WiFi to catch up with friends or get work done.

Love this place so much!…read more I've been to the Cerritos location many times so I figured I'd try the Santa Ana location. There's more seating at this location which is nice! Three tables and a bench. I ordered the Roasted Oolong Latte with Grass Jelly for 7.25, and I finished it in literally 10 minutes. The prices are really good if you don't get toppings too! 50% sweetness was perfect for me, and I like how they have descriptions under each of the teas on the menu. Next time I definitely want to try one of their frappes with purple rice. They also have many season drinks including an Earl Grey Cheesecake Latte! Parking is in a small plaza and it's a 30 minute maximum, so definitely plan to grab and go! Quite close to OCMA and South Coast as well.

The lighting was good and the interior was modern and minimal. I ordered a hojicha latte with light ice and 50 percent sweetness. The tea itself has pretty good roasted flavor but the problem was the lack of strong tea base. As such, any other liquid overwhelms the tea and left the flavor watery. As such, this doesn't really get a pass from me. I think its okay, but the weak tea base really sabotages any flavor from the drink.
