Our waitress was initially unpleasant and the service got worse from there. She seemed irritable while we were ordering and acted put out when we ordered rice after our food arrived. We ordered pad thai with 2 stars. When it arrived it was very spicy. Much more so than I have ever had anywhere else and my mouth was burning. We brought this to the attention of the server. She said we were expecting "American 2 stars" and she served us "thai 2 stars." Honestly, I don't think she realized how spicy it was. She continued to argue and blame us for not liking it. She refused to remake it with 0 stars. She offered more peanut sauce to make what we had more palatable. We did eat the chicken fried rice and tofu swimming rama. That food tasted good. We finished all but the inedible fire spiced pad thai. The waitress offered us a box for the pad tai, which we declined. In the end she charged us $5 for the pad tai, which is a little less than half off. In the end we were very displeased with the customer service and will not ever return. read more

you cant go wrong with anything you order here. Panag Curry, Masuman Beef Curry, Pineapple fried rice, Garlic Chicken (fried and stir fry versions), Chicken Basil are all on my regular menu. I'm not as impressed with their Phad See Yew, or Phad Thai though. I can say that I'm impressed with their spice levels. I usually get 3, but this is really thai spicy. First time ever eating here and I am extremely disappointed to say the least. I ordered seafood fresh rolls and chicken pad thai. Both looked very delicious at first glance, but when i tasted them was very underwhelmed. 18.72$$ for flavorless food and poor service. The seafood fresh rolls were overpriced and bland. However, The sauce that they were served with was plentiful and delicious (spicy too!!) The pad thai, has very little flavor at all. I had to toss 90% of my meal due to the noodles and chicken tasting only like carbon and a concerning amount of black flakes and burnt bits all throughout the noodles and chicken. (2 pictures attached to show details) i understand one or two here and there.... but, It was almost as though the pad thai had no seasoning or sauce what so ever. The pad thai appeared to be cooked on a dirty grill, thrown in a box, and served. I ordered to go when I arrived and the atmosphere of the restaurant was off putting. Very quiet and empty. Upon arrival I had to wait and then ask for service myself despite there being no other customers. Food came out very quick! Would not complain had it actually tasted like food instead of the charcoal from my grill. I wish i could get my money back. Never returning and highly suggest going else where if you're not into spending good money on a low quality meal. read more

The first time we came here few years ago we were served by this older gentlemen who was really friendly. Since then I sometimes just got take out. We had dinner there today, and served by the older lady who literally... Really short with us and unfriendly, never smiled throughout our meal... She would be friendly to the customers she knows though who came just got take out... Does she not like it when customer dine in? I literally wrote "smile a bit" on our receipt. I saw now on yelp that few other customers also had the same experience with that lady... Chada Thai is BOMB! I love this place. I've read a few reviews where people complained about decor or their children playing their Nintendo handheld games in there. Honestly I don't care about their decor nor do I care about their children being there. They don't run around and they sometimes take your order. It's kinda cute...anyhow...the decor is like any other hole in the wall Asian restaurant...don't act surprised. What really matters is the food, and it's really effin' good. We have been here three times. There is no consistency with spicy level. I get "no spice" or mild on noodles and every time it's different. The one thing that has never ever been spicy is their veggie fresh spring roll sauce. The sauce has never had anything but a sweet flavor. I took one bite not expecting any spice and my lips have been burning for half an hour. I haven't eaten all day and now can't eat and don't want too. Waste of money. The experience is I ordered this sauce multiple times in the last few months and it was never spicy not once. They need to pay attention esp because for some folks spice is a big deal. Located just one block away from me, I've been going here since 2004 and after the previous owners changed. The quality of the food has always been great. I would alternate between Chada and place's on the Ave when I was jonesing for a thai fix. At one point, I only had thai from here for about a year. When I went back to one of the places on the Ave I could barely finish my pad thai--it was so bad compared. Chada Thai definitely has some of the best Thai in the city. And if you tell them spicy, they WILL make it spicey. If you're not sure, ask for some of the peppers on the side to add later. I have not had anything I haven't enjoyed on their menu, from pad thai, panang curry, spring rolls, angel wings, lard nah...the list goes on. They have dine-in space, but, I wouldn't say it is the most "inviting" place to eat. Definitely more of a take out place, but, the dining area is exceptionally clean (perhaps because people rarely eat in?). Solid 5 stars and I scarcely will eat Thai from anywhere else. Having recently moved in to the nerighborhood, figured it was time to try this favorably rated place. Yes, the Crispy Garlic Chicken was good but the Chada's Famous Chicken was bland. Worse part was the service. We were at fiorst the only ones in the place at the time, and eventaully only 4 tables were occupied. Had to take our own menus as no one brought them over. No smiles, no friendly interaction in any of the process. No one ever came back to our table to see how things were going. Then, we had to go to the counter to ask for a couple of take-out containers and for our check. Not a good first experience and no plans to go back. read more

I haven't been to very many thai places, but this place had the best phad thai I've ever had. By our third visit, the server knew our orders by heart. I went once and it was too spicy although I had requested 1 star and that's how I always eat it (I'm weak, what can I say). My date ordered two stars and his was unbearably hot as well. They replaced our meals and the next time we came remembered. The only thing I found irritating is that the service is a bit lacking when it's busy. Gave this a go cuz it's nearby our new apartment and won't be going again. Pad Thai was fairly bland and mostly dry. Hardly the moist and scrumptious morsel you hope for when ordering the dish. Curry wasn't much better, fairly bland though appropriately spicy, but the veggies used (cucumber, celery) seemed like the leftovers from a kitchen sink and the shrimp were very small and overlooked. Worse yet, my girlfriend and I both woke up with upset tummies the following morning. As someone who lived in Thailand for a year and is quite frankly obsessed with their cuisine, I feel I have a good palate for judging these things. This time it's telling me not to go back. I lived near Chada Thai for almost ten years. For the first 7 years or so, it was decent food but the guy who owned the place acted like you were lucky to be graced with the outstanding cuisine. It was just ok. So, I drove across I-5 and down the hill to the (now gone and much lamented) Thai Pearl. Well, not long before moving away from the Bitter Lake area, I'm not sure why I stopped in .. maybe because Thai Pearl closed? And lo and behold new owners. Very nice people, much better food, and somehow a lighter atmosphere in the same dining room. Less curtains? Or just brighter folks? Wish I'd known sooner that Chada Thai had changed hands, I missed meals I'd have had there. I still make a point of stopping in, when I'm in the neighborhood. This was the first Thai restaurant I ate at in 1990, good family run business, decent food. However recently I ordered Pad Thai and they put caramelized onions in it, I've never had Phad Thai with caramelized onions, they took over the flavor completely. had to throw away a $12 meal. read more

Been to numerous Thai places around the city and the phad thai here is up there with the best of 'em. Like others have said, the service can be really hit or miss depending on who you get. I think the same applies for the food. It's a good amount of food for the money, but can often be pretty plain (both in terms of spices, and in terms of skimping on veggies/meat). I live right around the corner and honestly no longer go here, as there are better places almost as close. read more

I've only been here a couple times since I moved to a nearby apartment, but so far I've really enjoyed what I've had! I'm generally not a big fan of lots of vegetables in my curries, so when I got the yellow curry and saw that it was just meat and potatoes in a wonderful creamy sauce, I was really pleased. I love the flavor too, very warm and well-spiced. My partner got the crispy garlic chicken once, after we saw so many reviews for it on here, and that was really wonderful, too! It's got a crispy outside and a nice, soft inside, rather than being like hard and crunchy, and I found the texture really pleasing. The taste was great, too. The pad see ew and pad thai with chicken are quite good in taste and portion size as is the peanut sauce, I like to order white rice with my dinner as well. Little smokies sized spring rolls are hot and tasty. Frozen beer mugs are a bonus. The owner is the only waitress and IMHO is the soup nazi of Thai food. She is most certainly NOT "Disney Trained", does not smile and is typically rude and curt. Know what you want to eat as she has no time for suggestions or chit chat. I would suggest looking at a menu online as she will become annoyed if you take too long to figure out what you want. As long as you know what you want you will get good food for a fair price but do not expect a wonderful customer service experience - better yet order take out!! read more
