I have been here 2 times, and it's already one of my favorite places. All of the empanadas are delicious, and go great with a pitcher of red sangria! The service is fantastic - everyone is really friendly and accommodating. My friends and I especially enjoyed Mac, who kept us entertained and happy throughout the entire meal. The food was exceptional! Creative and delicious. I am a vegetarian. I was a little worried I wouldn't have many options. Wrong! The mushroom feta and spinach mozzarella empanadas were spectacular! I asked for the Brussels without bacon. They did not disappoint. The whiskey sour was another win. Our server was helpful and genuinely friendly. The only thing that keeps me from giving Ché five stars is the hostess. She was sadly rude, unprofessional, and not friendly (AT ALL). Made it to Che! And it was a great experience I love the place it's so cozy and beautiful you feel like your back in a Latin American country. The empanadas are super tasty, great flavor we had the queso con jamón, de carne and the empanadas de la semana. In my opinion the one from la semana was the best along with the sides/sauces that accompanies it. Despite them being great, they do are not like the empanadas I'm used to seeing, but close enough. We also ordered whiskey and ginger ale and that was not a disappoint specially for for their whiskey Wednesday deal. First time visit and we sat at the bar. Watched one of the bartenders drink 2 shots of tequila in the less than hour that we were there during dinner rush. Then watched him burp in his fist and go pour several drinks for servers which was less than appetizing. After sitting with our drinks for an hour, the other bartender finally asked if we wanted anything to eat, noting that we had a menu sitting in front of us this whole time. Service is definitely an afterthought here and we didn't get to try the food, but the food coming out around us looked great and the atmosphere in this little bar on a cold rainy night felt a little like a beach bar down south. Went with a small group during Cincinnati Restaurant Week, started off with their white sangria...no bueno. It honestly tasted like someone spiked it with fireball. And it isn't served with any fruit other than a lemon & lime you get with the wine glass. So we ordered from the wine menu instead and our waitress kindly took off the sangria since we couldn't stomach past the first sip. The wine was a much better pick. From the three course menu I ordered the truffle Mac & cheese, beef tips and the cheesecake. The only item I would re-order is the Mac and cheese. Truffle is a common ingredient for this dish and always a good pairing. Everything else felt like something that could be found at any other bar and grille. A friend in my group did order the Oreo empanada and I would definitely recommend that over the cheesecake!! All in all, not too impressed. Maybe dining with the prix fixe menu was my own fault. I just didn't enjoy the progression of offering heavy, cheesy appetizers with more heavy, meaty and starchy entrees and ending with heavy, breaded dessert. read more

We had really high hopes for this restaurant, the food sounded amazing! Unfortunately, every part of our experience was disappointing. We came on a Wednesday evening and were seated on the patio, which is actually a really nice space. However, a staff member came out and started a fire in the fire pit to provide some warmth, and the space just isn't large enough to accommodate that. Smoke was blowing in our faces throughout the meal, and ash flew onto our table, in our food, and in our drinks. We ordered the fundido without chorizo, asparagus to split, a cheese and onion empanada for me, and a buffalo chicken empanada for my fiancé. The fundido was fine, but the asparagus was not cut properly and the bottom was very woody and stringy. Anyone who knows how to prepare asparagus knows how to avoid this. Then, our empanadas came out and the server told us the buffalo chicken was next to the Gorgonzola sauce, and the cheese and onion was next to the other one. That was wrong, they were placed next to the wrong sauces. Which normally wouldn't be a big deal, but I'm a vegetarian. My fiancé ate what he thought was his, and then I cut open what I thought was mine to find chicken in it. So I wasn't able to eat one. With how "meh" the rest of the food had been, my fiancé just assumed his empanada wasn't seasoned well and didn't realize he was eating what I ordered. Finally, our server seemed like she hadn't had any training. She tried to take our appetizer before we had finished it - there was still a decent amount of bread and dip on the plate when she grabbed it from the table. I asked her to leave it - even if we didn't finish it we would have taken it to go. Why would the restaurant automatically waste the rest of the appetizer without asking us if we were finished with it? Then when we were finishing our meal, I turned around to see that she took my drink before I was finished! It was a $10 cocktail with about 1/4 of it left. Why would you do that? Especially without asking, when there was still food on the table. Such a disappointing experience. With so many options in OTR, we likely won't be back. I would rather go to a restaurant with good service where we will actually get to finish the food that we paid for. read more

I had been wanting to try Ché for quite some time and I was blown away! The empanadas are very good and it's fun to try 3-4 different ones. I had the buffalo chicken empanada and the ham and cheese empanada -- both were phenomenal! Our waitress did a great job with a large group and large order and even brought out a yummy dessert since we were celebrating a birthday. She happily replaced some empanadas that a member of our group dropped. We did have to wait about 25 minutes for a table, but we had a group of 9 and wanted to eat inside. Recently went to the Queen City for a quick girls trip which of course included some delicious food. Our first stop was at Ché. Upon opening the door my first impression was "okay this is cute". It's a pretty small space that gives off very hip and upbeat vibes, it is pretty trendy. Off the the right you can see the kitchen where orders are being prepped, it's quite eye catching. We followed the host back to our small table near the bar. Right off the bat I noticed the restaurant is very dark, and not in the romantic way. The menu was pretty self explanatory with a decent selection. Started off with the fundido appetizer, it was hands down one of the best cheese dishes I've ever had. It was served with warm pita slices which complemented so well, I will say it was a little tricky to eat because the cheese was very gooey. Next up the main course, we came for empanadas so that's what we got. The empanadas are $4.50 each (which is kind of steep in my opinion). There were 4 of us so we split the 12 for $48 deal which saves a couple of dollars per person. I selected the Jerk chicken, Korean BBQ, and Crab Rangoon. My favorite was definitely the jerk chicken, it was so flavorful. They have lasted the empanada dough, it was flaky and light and paired perfectly which each empanada whether it was fried or baked. The only negatives for me at Ché are the pricing, it's pretty easy to rack up a high tab here so be careful. Overall it was a great experience and I'd recommend it to anyone in the area, I'd even go back if I find myself in Cincy anytime soon. read more

Finally got around to trying this restaurant out after several recommendations and I am blown away. My table decided to split the Fundido and I'm glad we did because it left four of us feeling like we barely had room for the entrees (and it was delicious!). There were four of us and we ordered somewhat similar but varying empanadas. I had a short rib which is easily my favorite one, and a jerk chicken which was good too, but I'd definitely get two short rib next time. My partner and I also split and order of fries which are seasoned really well, and came with a delicious mayo to dip into. The empanadas: buffalo chicken, pork belly, carne, mushroom artichoke. The carne was described at tasting like a deep friend Taco and that's EXACTLY what it tasted like. Don't be afraid of the eggs and olives - you can't even tell that's what's in there. The pork belly and buffalo chicken packed just enough heat that my husband only produced a small amount of brow sweat. The mushroom artichoke was super. They give you 3 dipping sauces: a sort of pepper onion relish, gorgonzola, and an oily pesto blend. The pesto was my absolute favorite - I want to bottle it up and put it on everything for the rest of my life. I want to adopt it as my child. I'm going to try and buy the recipe next time we go in. The grilled romain salad was amazing as well. Definitely big! This is the perfect place to hit up if you want to try something new and aren't sure how hungry you are. Empenados are made to order so you can just keep going. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because I didn't particularly like the bar area where we sat.It was definitely a bar feeling and there were some annoying people. Not the management's fault and we went in on a Friday night at 930- not sure what we expected. Next time we would probably go on a week night and sit in the dining room for a change of ambiance. My visit to Che was incredible! My colleagues and I dropped into the Argentinian spot while on a work trip in Cincinnati. I had been to one of the owners other restaurants, the Butcher & Barrel, and had to try out his empanada spot! I was so excited to see that Che offered Cachaca ( sugar cane liquor that can be near impossible to find in the states). I ordered myself the classic Camprihinia and it was absolutely perfect! My friend and I also ordered glasses of Malbec because we went on $5 Malbec night! Great deal. My empanadas were to die for; I ordered the jerk chicken, onion and mushroom cheese varieties. My favorite had to be the jerk chicken - the spice profile was dead on. I will definitely be back to try their Shrimp Scampi and braised pork empanadas soon. Our experience at Che was lovely. We enjoyed our drinks, food, and even had the pleasure of going on a night when a really fun local band was playing. Great restaurant! Our waitress was really friendly and knowledgeable. She explained that the two owners of this restaurant are from Argentina. Argentina had a lot of Spanish and Italian settlers back in the day, so Argentinian food has a lot of Spanish and Italian influence. The menu has some traditional Argentinian items (all denoted with an Argentina flag next to the item on the menu) and some original items. The food was really good! We started with some drinks. They have a lot of different beers on tap and I tried the pisco mule, which was really tasty. Our waitress described Pisco as a sweet rum of sorts. Then on to the food, we tried a few empanadas. The short rib empanada with chimichurri sauce was amazing! And for dessert, we had the tres leches crepes, which was a caramelly slice of heaven! This place is on point. My husband and I came in and tried one of each of their empanadas for about $25. They're big enough to split and have a couple bites each. I later found out if you come during happy hour, you can do a sampler like we did but for $20 and I definitely recommend that to anyone trying this place out for the first time. The variety of empanadas is awesome. Personal favorites were the classic (I believe called the carne? I don't recall), the pork belly (so smoky and delicious) and the shrimp scampi (especially with the green sauce). The cocktail my husband got was a little disappointing but the food was so good we weren't even mad. We went back another time with some friends after gaming at 16-bit across the street around 1 am to see if they were open because I was craving their empanadas. A reservation was made over the phone about a month prior for a large party. We arrive and are seated after I give hostess my name. A couple servers come up and ask again for the reservation name which they apparently don't have anymore. They ask us to leave the patio table after they already sat us and are not accommodating at all but one server said she would check the basement. The bartender then comes out and accuses us of being disrespectful when I stated they messed up twice. He then threatens violence on a member in the group by telling him he would "put his a** through the door". The hostess threatened to call the cops, when we were already leaving. I'm a sucker for anything fried so when I heard there was a new empanada place opening, I could not wait to check it out. A friend and I first came the week they opened and have been back a handful of times since then. While their empanadas were great from the start they've only improved in quality over time. I am a bit disappointed that their veggie options are restricted but I do love their spinach and cheese empanadas. I haven't been tempted enough to stray away to other items on their menus. Their ambiance and service is great as well. On Tuesdays, they sometimes have live music in the back which adds to the festive aura of the place. Their patio provides another outdoor oasis in downtown. They have a number of day specific specials as well depending on when you come in.
