The restaurant was a must for me. I still remember watching Anthony Bourdain eating here. I also watched Phil (Somebody Feed Phil) eating here. I like watching travel/food shows. I made reservations in advance, which required a 50€ deposit for the two of us. The deposit goes toward the bill. The place is bigger than I expected. Apparently, they have expanded. We were led upstairs, where there are multiple rooms. Tables are communal, but the middle seats were left empty between us and another couple. We were given a basket of bread. They were crusty and buttery. I ate a lot more bread than I usually do. One thing I had to try was barnacles, as it's not common. It's mainly eaten in Portugal and Spain. I watched the person next to us eat it, and he was kind enough to show us. It got a bit messy, but I thought they were fun to eat. They taste similar to razor clams. The scallops with butter were good. Next, we had the giant tiger shrimp. While they are great visually, they stuck to the shell. I also decided to order the clams with garlic. We went for dinner on New Year's Eve so probably not your normal everyday experience. It was pre-booked/ paid yet there was still a line to enter. The line took ~10 minutes. We were sat upstairs even though we requested to sit downstairs. Food delivers to the table very quickly so don't worry if you aren't sure how much food to order. You can always order more and it will still arrive quickly. The food was about 50/50 good. Razor clams and giant prawns delicious. Giant prawns could have used a little more char. The clams bulhao was extremely sandy - not great. We also tried the (supposed) spicy prawns. The prawn quality was fine but there was zero spice. When in Lisbon, Ramiro is a must. This place was recommended to us by both tourists and locals alike. If possible, I'd recommend making a reservation here unless you don't mind a long wait. A local told me reservations aren't necessary and they'll always have a table for you - this is true but it may come with an 1.5 hour wait attached. This was true in our case. You take a number and wait either outside or in their lounge area. The lounge felt a bit hacky to me but it's a good option for drinking and relaxing while you wait. There's a pour-your-own-pint option which was like a vending machine but for beer - pretty cool. The bathroom in the lounge area was really dirty and needed to be serviced. The outside waiting area can get crowded but is a better atmosphere than the lounge. However, the cheesy lounge, dirty bathroom, and long wait were all forgotten once we sat down. I was pleased to see an even mix between tourists and Portuguese people in our section. As much hype as this place gets, it's not a tourist trap. This is some of the best seafood I've ever had at some of the most reasonable prices I've ever seen. We ordered spider crab, gambas, clams, prawns, and barnacles. I was in seafood heaven. Everything is perfectly cooked and seasoned simply but excellently. The seafood is so fresh it doesn't need much but the quality of butter, garlic, and olive oil shines through. Even the simple buttered bread they give you was delicious - using it to mop up the sauce from the clams and the delicious soup in the spider crab shell was just chef's kiss. We ended up paying only 120 euros for all the food (excluding drinks we had while we waited). For that amount of seafood and at that quality? That price is absurd! Buttery smooth spread over the bread! Warning: it smells like feet! Oysters were nothing special. No extra toppings to put in it for extra flavor. Tasted like oysters. Garlic shrimp was soooooo amazing! I love how salty it was! I love garlic, so it was perfection for me. I could eat this all day everyday! It's also already peeled, so it saves you from getting your hands dirty. The lobster roll was also heavenly. The bread is sweet and soft. I would order this over and over and over again. One of our best meals in Lisbon! We absolutely loved the Scarlett shrimp and the Giant Tiger Prawns. The price on the menu is per kg, our Giant Tiger Prawns and Scarlett prawns ended up costjng approximately $20 each. The Giant Tiger prawns are as long as lobsters and have a nice meaty bite. The Scarlett shrimp has a sweeter flavor and the head juices are super umami and almost taste like truffle! Both of these seafood dishes rank amongst some of the rest seafood I have ever had in my life. From what I can tell, this place is essentially like a Portuguese Peter Luger's, but for seafood: It's legendary. It's hard to get into without a reservation made in advance. It's a little pricey. They definitely have a reputation they are riding on, but the food is still great. We ordered scarlet prawns, and spider crab, and Iberian ham, and the Al Ajillo Especial, and much more. We ate the weird crab soup they make in the spider crab skull, and we smashed crab legs with mallets and caught shrapnel from other tables as they did the same. We drank wine, and enjoyed it all... ...but if I'm being honest, I didn't need anything except the Amêijoa Bulhão Pato (clams in garlic) and the bread and butter to soak up the juice. Expensive, but a treat (99Euro/Kg) Razor clams, clams in garlic & butter, scallops, big prawns..yum !! Glad to experience the barnacles (percebes) but once was enough.
