My husband and I walked down to another restaurant to…read moreeat and passed by and saw the big chalk sign out front that said "Vegan, Vegetarian, Gluten Free!"... I have Celiac disease and so navigating food when traveling is always an experience for me and I immediately tagged this place as one we would return to. Sadly, when we went and I said I needed to be gluten-free and asked if they had a separate menu when I only saw three items the server said "We really don't have a lot." ...then why is it advertised in huge letters on the sign outside? Felt strange. The service was exceptional of course - none of this at all is a condemnation of the employees - they were all great and attentive and helpful... I just think the advertising of the menu and branding needs... some rework? The check arrived with major sticker shock for fries, wings, and sangria (that was way way too sweet). We spend a good amount of our disposable income on dining out, with intent, and the value ratio for this one was... off. Environment? Very chill neighborhood "burger bar" type place. There are some couches and lots of art on the walls for purchase and pretty extensive beer list - larger than I had seen at any other restaurant in Alfama and beyond.

This place has quite a nice selection of beer, for a small store. Mostly European, and I was excited to see all the BrewDog from Scotland and Mikkeller from Denmark. Also surprised to see many Rogue Ale's beers, even on draft as well. There is a shelf for Portuguese craft, some from Lisbon. The girl working there, Ann Marie, is the best. She's really knowledgeable about the beer. When I asked her about a label, she'd tell me - their best beer is XXX, which I don't have right now, but of the two I have, this one is better. She is honest about her opinion - they waited six month to get this beer, she was really excited to try it but felt rather let down. She also enjoys giving trivia - the label Electric Nurse from Denmark comes from the occupations of the founders - one is an electrician and the other a nurse. She lets me sample the draft before deciding which one I want. Last but not least, she is diligent with regular sampling of the beer to ensure quality. ; ) The place has a relaxed vibe, with some games and books for entertainment. We just sat at the bar and chatted with locals, about beer, food, and everything. A really lovely way to spend an afternoon of our vacation, rather than hurrying around like crazy tourists. If you prefer, Praça Das Flores is just across the street, a park where you can totally enjoy a little corner of nature. Beers are not cheap here. The bottles costs over €3 each, and drafts mostly €4-6. Whereas a Sagres usually costs me €2 or so. However, if you don't feel it's worth paying extra to support craft and quality beer, then by all means stay with your Super Bock.

My only wish is that these is more of a way to help navigate the canned selection. I know a lot about beer but it's hard to decide on these because there isn't much in the way of write ups, just suggestions from whomever is there working or drinking. I normally stick with the tap, in general. I suggest taking the drinks out by the park on nice days. I really like this little area.

Open at the right time and with only a few folks inside, I was able to review the current drafts, make a selection and enjoy my beer for a bit. Outro Lado has a free wifi and that was awesome for adding more bookmarks for my expiration of Lisbon this weekend. As for the beer? I wanted something local-ish and while I ended up with a Czech microbrew, at least it wasn't one of those big macrobrews. A bunch of interesting options - Spiced Brown Ale, Pear Imperial Gose, Hefeweissbier, Pastry Sour (what?) - and I managed to drop myself into the one that is 11.6% abv and got quite ready for dinner. Comfy spot, lots of neat seating, many different beer options. A perfect spot to pregame or postgame or just hang out. [Review 16579 overall - 97 in Portugal - 89 of 2022.]

Quimera brews its own beers, at the moment there are 12 in a variety from sours to stouts. I had their American Wheat to start with my burger, a Mexican Chocolate Imperial Stout to finish the chips, and a Blackberry Sour for dessert. All were excellent examples of these specific varieties. The American wheat was absolutely perfect and sour was indeed sour so if that's your thing, you will enjoy. Not a huge variety of food on the menu and I hesitated over the sandwiches, landing on the classic burger. Cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion on a locally baked brioche bun, it was delicious. A little messy but a fun dinner that ended up being my last full meal in Lisbon. Great atmosphere, Quimera is a former cavalry tunnel. Completely underground (though there are some outside tables) and I would guess it might get a bit interesting when it's busy. The shops are set all the way in behind the tables and umbrellas, so unless you really walk up to it, you may pass by this place many times and not find it. I'm thrilled that with each visit to Portugal the local beer scene is getting more vibrant. While there are more micro-breweries, it's hard for a traveler to visit, as it's a challenge to find out accurate info about their opening hours - if they are open to public - and then trying to fit the visits into your schedule. You also need to pray that they open as scheduled. Now, there is Beer Station, which specializes in local crafts, is right smack in the middle of the tourist area, is open for long hours, and has very affordable prices.
