Came here for brunch on a weekend and was surprised to find that we were the only ones here. We actually thought it was closed, but a server saw us looking around and came out to seat us. Eventually one or two people started to join as we sat, but for how good the view was at this place I'm surprised it wasn't busier. Service was a bit slow despite us being the only ones there, but the food was really good. The avocado toast came with a perfectly cooked egg, and my scrambled eggs with pickled onions were also tasty. The coffee here was also strong and delicious, but really, you're here for the views. I don't know that I'd travel out of my way to stop here, but if you're in the area and are craving food with a view (and have time to spare) this is a solid option in my opinion. read more

Restaurant with a beautiful view. Crowded everywhere else for sunset which was expected in this tourist draw, but this restaurant still had plenty of outdoor seating. We couldn't get a spot by the railing, but when some other people left, they moved us to a great spot just in time for food to arrive. Would definitely come back. We had the cheese plate, the bifana, and the meat croquettes. The bifana was surprisingly different than I expected, but tasted like a beef stew dip sandwich. This was my first stop for a drink since it was close to my airbnb. I love the location here because the tables are set out and there are gorgeous views to take in whilst enjoying your pastry or drink! Can't beat the scenery at this spot. Food was okay, good for a drink and a snack for mid day stop. The roast beef sandwich was pretty good, and the tomato salad was so-so. Beautiful cafe/bar at the heart of Lisbon, overlooking the river. Ideal for a stop on the way from walking around the castle, or just hanging out and people watching. We came here for drinks and ended up ordering dinner. We should've just stuck with drinks. The sandwiches we ordered were just okay and served with potato chips. Our drinks, on the other hand, were great. I loved my sangria and my husband loved the mixed drinks he tried. Come here for the drinks and the gorgeous view of Lisbon. What a great view!! This place automatically gets 5 stars just for the priceless location overlooking Alfama neighborhood and Rio Tejo. Coming from busy NYC, hanging out in the terrace for hours on a sunny day without being harassed to leave was such a refreshing experience! Beautiful view and also reasonably expensive. Not much food to choose from but does make a nice stop for a snack and a drink on a stroll through Alfama. The terrace can be pretty cold depending on the weather, but is usually nice when the sun is out. I got the caldo verde, which was okay. The sandwiches are okay too. View from elevated seating area is fantastic especially at night great anytime of day, one of the nicest places in Lisbon, on floor seating pads nice to lounge when not eating. Eggs Benedict, Avocado and Salmon toast, as well as Fruit Bowl were great along with service. Will definitely return for late night brunch. The food is nothing special here, but the view sure is! Portas do Sol is perched on a hillside, overlooking the Tagus River and all the pretty rooftops of Lisbon. Drinks are very reasonably priced considering the prime location, and the big patio offers both shaded and full-sun seating, on bean bag chairs, lounge couches, or tables, depending on your mood. Their drink menu has 5 versions of Caipirinha and other basic cocktails and beer-tails (they like to mix beer with flavored syrups 'round here). I had the mojito, a big refreshing glass for 6 euros. We also tried the "pintxos", basically bruscetta with various toppings. Way overpriced for what you get! Skip the food. If the view looks too classy for your budget, think again. Yay! I'm a fan. This place is really cool, it offers a superb view over Alfama and the Tagus. It's very close to the pitoresque 28 tram line and it's easily combinable with a visit to the castle. The price here is expensive for Portugal but CHEAP for the venue. If you see their location with the view they're offering this really is quite good value for money. We ordered sangria and for 20 euro's you get a, excuse my french, shitload of sangria. We choose the one with cava instead of white wine and it was really good! We didn't try the food but it looked decent. Definitely a place I'll come back to to show my friends! read more

My friends and I came to Portas Do Sol on a local's recommendation. The view is extremely beautiful, however the service leaves everything to be desired. Upon seating ourselves, my friends and I waited for over 10 minutes for a server. I then asked a server if we should order at the bar on our own, and he said yes. As I approached the bar, I was stopped by another server asking what I was doing. I told him we were told to order at the bar. Then he responded that he now "had time for us," and could take our order at the table. After sitting for another 5 minutes, he approached our table and told us he had "30 seconds to hear what we needed." I ordered a white sangria, while my friends were torn between two sandwiches. He told them they needed to order quick or he was leaving. After the sangria and sandwiches were delivered, we asked if tap water was available. The waiter then responded "every place in Lisbon has tap water...now you know." I asked him if he was having a bad day, ,and he explained that another server did not show up for work and that made him more busy (and apparently a very unlovely man for the afternoon). In addition to our difficult server, the other server that was in our section was extremely lazy and held many plates incorrectly, causing the food to almost fall out of the plates/bowls and look very unpresentable. My suggestion, take in the free view, then head to Lost in Esplanada Bar. read more

If you're just coming here for the view and nkt the food, you won't have anything to complain about. Unfortunately I had the displeasure of experiencing the delayed and lazy wait staff of this establishment. Took a while to get menus, and get orders, and get the check. You get the point. Really nice place to hangout and see a beautiful view of Lisbon. Here you have your option of sitting on couches, tables and chairs, or beanbag chairs! We went for the last option.
