This may the best bar I've ever been to. Every floor is decorated so well... such an aesthetic place and even though it was so packed, I never felt like I was being squished. Don't remember much about the drinks because my usual is very simple but I just remember entering every new floor in awe of the great music and drastic decor.

a play on a spicy margarita. I could have had 3 more of these!

The atmosphere of this place was great. came in late-night (late for Americans, early for Europeans!), there was a lounge area and then a dancing area. The music was nice, staff was very attentive, and the drinks were very good. I drank my first one faster than expected. If I come back to Lisbon, I would visit again and stay longer, my wife and I didn't get a chance to dance!

Dive bars, speakeasies, and seedy places have always interested me. When my husband and I were told to explore Pink Street while in Lisbon this was right up my alley (literally and figuratively). Pink Street is an alley about a half of kilometer long with bars, restaurants, and a generally sketchiness. Drug dealers come up to you and offer marijuana, cocaine, and hashish. Tell them no and they quickly scatter along. There is police presence everywhere and never once did we feel unsafe. Pensao Amor was a former brothel turned into a bar and lounge. There are different rooms to explore with various adult themes. There's a stripper pole if you're feeling particularly adventurous or have enough liquid courage. The drinks are pricey (€11-13) and are denoted with penises for alcohol strength. It gets busy after 8pm and especially on weekends but that gives you a chance to walk through the rooms on the different levels. There are many nooks and crannies so do yourself a favor and explore before settling in with some cocktails.

Fabulous themed craft cocktails, great atmosphere, friendly service. We stopped by early in the evening and it was a lot more chill.. great to sit and talk. We also wandered around Pink Street later in the evening (11pm) on another night and things were hoppin'. Be sure to explore the upstairs and such, there are a lot of hidden alcoves and fun adult-themed decorations. Pretty sure they have live music, dance and other performances as well. 10/10 would drink here again.

Wow this bar is unique and over stimulating, be prepared. There are a couple of rooms and two bar sections. The whole place looks like an 1950s living room with brothel aesthetics. In the last room, there is a dancing pole and you will see some pole dancing which is pretty cool. Looks like the last dance is around 11 then it's just a dj playing. I had a Thomas Margarita and he had a Jameson with ginger ale. The drinks were very crafty but pricey compared to other local bars. The bathroom has a hangout area with a disco ball in the middle, don't be shocked if you find someone hooking up there. If you want to experience something different I suggest you come here! Looks like the lines can get low so I suggest getting there before 11.

Five star for the incredible atmosphere and decor. A former brothel, the place is richly decorated in velvet and old silk chairs, and paintings everywhere in the front room, then darker, stranger, modern-ish rooms in the back, each with a unique personality. A lovely place for a drink before or after dinner. At 7:30 the place was just beginning to fill up to seating capacity, but I've heard that after midnight, when the Portuguese finally come out, it's quite a wait to get in. Three star for the actual drinks. The vinho verde was flat, seemingly an old bottle, and the cocktail list features no Portuguese gins (strange given that gin's rather big here), and the cocktail list is full of old classics, but nothing novel. Service is a tad slow, but totally fine.

If your slightly odd grandmother had a young kooky roommate and they decided to open a brothel or speakeasy to be run by skateboarders, it might look like Penaso Amor. Red velvet walls and scalloped chairs lead to a warren of rooms and cosy spots for drinking and conversation. It draws locals and tourists alike according to the intelligence from my eavesdropping. The nicely lit lounge provides both intimacy and people watching too. It is a friendly crowd on this first Friday of February, which seems helped by the T-shirt wearing young servers who speak in English as a courtesy to guests like me. A shame I did not try a cocktail, that is the focus of the joint. I opted for red wine with my cured meats. The wine was served from a bottle after I had the chance to taste it. It went well with my meats and the rouge walls and rogue mood.

Cute cocktail bar that is very unique to anywhere else I've drank in. Staff are friendly and it almost feels like you've travelled back to the 1920's but with a hipster feel to it.

Really cool spot in Lisbon. Old brothel, cool vibes, great service, and best. drinks. ever. I had the Carmen, and wow. We went early on, around 19:30, and it was fairly empty. Later on it got packed. So if you want a good seat, go early on.

Really cool bar with bold decor. It used to be a brothel. It has different rooms , cozy chairs and one room has still a dance pole. It's great to see and have a drink there. Personally i wouldn't stay all night

Love this place! It was recommended on an Airbnb tour and I could sit here all night. Lungs and comfortable feel, great cocktails, friendly service and I am loving the music! I'll be back again

Very eclectic in both clientele and decor. Must see while in Lisbon. Burlesque show was a bonus.

Eventually one or two people started to join as we sat, but for how good the view was at this place I'm surprised it wasn't busier. Service was a bit slow despite us being the only ones there, but the food was really good. The avocado toast came with a perfectly cooked egg, and my scrambled eggs with pickled onions were also tasty. The coffee here was also strong and delicious, but really, you're here for the views. I don't know that I'd travel out of my way to stop here, but if you're in the area and are craving food with a view (and have time to spare) this is a solid option in my opinion.

We couldn't get a spot by the railing, but when some other people left, they moved us to a great spot just in time for food to arrive. Would definitely come back. We had the cheese plate, the bifana, and the meat croquettes. The bifana was surprisingly different than I expected, but tasted like a beef stew dip sandwich. The meat croquettes were filled with some super soft meat inside, and the favorite was the cheese plate with a huge bowl of toast and bread.

This will be less a review than a love letter, but I needed someplace to stay for 30 days in…read moreLisbon, & every other hostel I contacted had a two week maximum. These people were kind enough to take a chance on me for that long, & even so, you know, here you show up the first nite in the pouring rain, not sure what to expect from the full month you signed up for... You go through this old green door & up the stairs, it's a building from deep in time, & your room is simple & sweet, just like the breakfast every morning, & week after week you fall into a rhythm with the hilarious kindhearted mother from Brazil who cleans out your room for instance, or the clever Canadian dude who does music, or the young Portuguese gal who watches MTV & loves poetry & ice cream, & her streetwise young friend who stops by to share food with her & also works the bar in the little concert hall downstairs. Ahh, & the concert hall downstairs...so much jammin' gorgeous awesome music comes out of that place, & sometimes it's packed to the gills, & better times it's more relaxed & open, & if you're in the mood you can put on shoes & go down & rock out a little, but either way you'll be standing at the tiny balcony waiting for your food to cook some nite, & the lilting strains of a world class cover of "So Rude" will come drifting up through the alleyway, & you'll wonder how you got to be this classy. I don't want to embarrass him, but there's a guy who works there with his wife, who looks herself like an icon of vintage Italian cinema...& it's the most touching thing, whether it's her, or one of several other employees who do the overnite shift, it doesn't matter what's going on or what kind of day you might be having, they are always, always sitting there in the front room in the dark, sometimes with a full nest of blankets gathered up around them, just there on hand to let you in. I think it's a little on the miraculous side, but in truth not once in all those 30 days was there even a hint that I was being a hassle to them, no matter what time of the night I might show up. You can hardly imagine it. My last nite a woman I'd spoken with a few times, who lived in the States in the 80s, she was the one on duty. It was 3 or 4 in the morning, I had to go get a cab for a very early flight. but she was still up & around to serve me a last beer from the little fridge & take my key & ease me through the pain of saying a very tough goodbye. But anyway this guy, we were watching Portuguese news around the TV one lunchtime, & it was the latest from D to the T, & then it was some shooting at a Black Friday whatever, & footage of all these Americans with shopping bags running through some retail landscape screaming, & I said to this guy, just half-jokingly like "Man, what must you think of us after all this, for real...?!" He responded with some candid & heavy words that I'll never forget, & he talked about some of the indignities of dealing directly with American tourists besides, which one can only imagine. Listen, the neighborhood goes late & loud, & it's definitely not ideal for young children & all that, but there's still a level of poise & decorum that I would assert is very native to Portugal & also very easy for Americans to blow past in their blind appetite for diversion & recreation overseas. Which is me trying to put it as diplomatically as possible. Graffiti from a wall down the block: ENJOY // BEHAVE So I would just say that this place gets 10 out of 5 stars for me, that they allowed my experience in Lisbon to be the life-changing period that it was, by so many simple steady acts of kindness & welcome, & I would ask that if you go there, that you treat the place & its people with your utmost goodness & respect. 'Alface' is the Portuguese word for lettuce, & the designation 'Lisboeta' for residents is typically supplanted by 'Alfacinha'. As I understand it the exact history is somewhat shrouded, but one theory is that in a time of war the city was barricaded by a hostile force & lettuce was the only way the trapped people could survive. That quiet strength & dignity I found among them, & it was so beautiful, & I drank it deep. I could have walked away with a much more mediocre experience & still been pretty happy, but instead, & massively because of Alface Hostel, it was perfection. Thank you. CR
