When we arrived, the establishment was hopping. All the tables were completely filled. We elected to stand at the bar, rather than wait for a table. We felt like locals as many locals were also standing at the counter and eating. Our two Bifana pork sandwiches were great. The buns are super soft, and you have the choice of adding mustard and or vinegar, which is on the counter. We ate our sandwiches along with a beer. A good time was had by all, and it's a fun experience with both the staff and visitors being animated and lively
If Anthony suggested, I had to try it! In the big bustle and hustle we were lucky to grab a seat and we're served pretty quickly. It's known to be the best sandwich and all of Portugal and I would say it was pretty good but not out of the world incredible like I was assuming it would be lol Joaquin was the nicest man and he seated us quickly. The vibe was authentic and incredibly busy spot in a beautiful area.
My wife and I were in Lisbon for a week and this place was just on the corner from our hotel. We were headed back to the room after a full day of wandering and I saw the word bifrata. I had heard about these pork sandwiches on all the travel videos I watched before we left. I ordered one and a beer and it was under ten bucks. Not bad. It came out quickly and the meat was nice and juicy and then add some mustard and hot oil to the sandwich. Very nice. The service was just fine and the place is pretty small, so you will be sitting next to someone probably. Good place for a good, cheap snack.
Stopped here for a quick lunch. Did not wait very long for a seat. If you want faster service just walk in and order at counter. S eat there or take away. Agree the Bifana is not very flavorful-I see why you'd want to add mustard. The bread roll was very fresh and soft! Service was quick. We also had chicken soup which was perfect for a cold and rainy day.

The price is very reasonable and the service is quick. The place doesn't look very hygienic since it's a small shop , the cook should use gloves or something. Workers were friendly and I got my sandwich quick and ate it while standing up. This place is cash only and has very reasonable prices and it's close to the main square.
The BEST Bifana in Lisbon! I did a little Bifana tour for my Fiance and I... O Trevo was our FAVORITE! The staff was also amazing! Super friendly, welcoming and even gave us a seat! Came here everyday we were in Lisbon! You truly can't go wrong! I also had the chicken noodle soup and it was so flavorful! One of the best chicken soups I've had! Can't wait to come back here!! And if you don't know, Anthony Bourdain also loved this spot!!

The beer is cheap and the bifanas are tasty but not the best bifanas we tasted in Portugal. The meat was chewy and the bread wasn't as dense as others we tried. Anthony Bourdain stopped in many years ago.
This place gets pretty crowded. We were lucky enough to have seating when we came here on our food tour. We ordered the green wine, which was delicious. We also had the cod, cake, which was very tasty, but would have been more enjoyable if warm. Lastly, we enjoyed the bifana, which Anthony Bourdain highly recommended with a sign of him visible upon entering. The service was great, and everyone was super friendly here.
As I continue to slowly get through the large list of review drafts I wrote when I was in Portugal, at this point, a bit over 3 months ago, in no particular order... this was one of two places that ended up on my list of places I had to try a famous bifana sandwich when I was in Lisbon, the other being As Bifanas do Afonso, a review draft I also need to finish. So, the *vibe* of this place, I'd call... packed and frenetic. Inside, it's cramped, load and chaotic, which I personally liked less (outside seemed calmer, other than the fact that it kept raining off and on.) It wasn't immediately clear how to get a seat (answer: you can just take one if you see one that's free). It was unclear initially, too, how you were supposed to order (a waiter will see you eventually, maybe, but you can also just give your order to the bar). Was also unclear initially how I was supposed to pay when I was done (see above.) But at least there *were* seats and an inside, unlike at As Bifanas the day before, where it was also raining... For all of that, though, I'd 100% come back here again if I were in Lisbon, assuming the quality hadn't gone down or the prices way up, of course. As of now about 3 months ago, it was a great sandwich (I thought a little better than the other bifana I had the day earlier, though they were both great.) Great bread, great meat, great cheese, and also great condiments, which, like at As Bifanas, were self-serve, so you could put a whole bunch on if you wanted, which you do. I also had a bowl of an extremely good vegetable soup with it, and paired it with another local drink I finally got the chance to try here, a weird combo that works surprisingly well, beer mixed with vermouth. All for 7.50 euros. Just wish I'd been hungrier! I still wouldn't wait in line for an hour, though. Very things I would do that for. Good thing I only had to wait like 5 minutes. :p read more

Placed was packed but where else can you get cheap eats and real locals? We had the pork sandwich and a bowl of chicken orzo soup. Just what the doctor ordered for the cold we caught at the tail end of our trip. We wanted table service cuz we didn't know any better but the waiter said we could sit outside and order take away and the wait would be shorter. So appreciated the tip! We were done eating while the person who was in front of us waited for a table for 5. You just go up to the counter and tell them what you want. Don't be shy, just jump in cuz there are like 3/4 people taking orders behind the counter. We had a plain pork sandwich (no cheese) and soup. The bread was soft and the pork was good but besides the bread being soft I'm not sure what the draw was? Inexpensive? I normally don't like mustard but since they had it on the counter I added it to my sammy and it gave it a little more flavor. 3/5 The soup was nice and hot and filled with lots of orzo and chunks of chicken. Loved it. Real chicken broth so you can't go wrong. Seems to me a lot of food has been overly salty but maybe that's just me. Loved the soup tho and can't wait to make it at home! 5/5. read more

Great food, fast service. Staff are friendly, casual atmosphere, indoor & outdoor seating available. Restrooms available too. Beer & soda available too. Sandwich also delicious served hot. read more

Look no further for bifanas - this is the place. Casual walk-in counter to order at, and seating possible to find. Guys behind the counter were helpful. I could not stop eating bifanas they were so good. My only regret about visiting Lisbon is that I didn't have more of these! read more
BOURDAIN'S BELOVED BIFANA simple pork sandwich, literally just a slab of simple marinated pork in plain soft bread. O Trevo is local favorite but has been pretty popular internationally since it was featured on a segment of No Reservations. I forgot how it came up in conversation but our waiter at a fine dining restaurant said he used to work around here when he was up and coming and this was his favorite snack spot. Ask any local and they are passionate about their Bifana and proud of it as a national sandwich. This isn't going to be some insane packed sandwich with lots of flavors and complexity but taking into account the environment you are eating it in and how classic it is, its a must try over any franchise food. The bread is soft and not too dense and the pork is seasoned so gently it tastes like soft pork with a touch of salt and garlic. I would view this as a snack and quick bite or something to soak the alcohol at the end of a night and not a full meal. read more
No frills place to try bifanas in Lisbon that was mentioned by Anthony Bourdain. It was super yummy and cheap. The meat was juicy and tender. A great fast spot to grab a quick bite. Only take cash. Plenty of seating and it seems like a lot of locals come around. Clean tables and chairs, nothing to complain about. read more
I stopped by O Trevor in Lisbon to try their Bifana after reading that Anthony Bourdain mentioned it. However, the Bifana was just decent, especially when compared to ones I had in Porto. For example, the bun was really dry/hard, the meat wasn't as juicy/tender/flavourful. Anyway, I'd still give it 7.5/10 read more
A lot of people come here because the late and great Anthony Bourdain stopped by here during a No Reservations episode in 2012 where he raved about the bifana. The place is in a pretty busy area in Lisbon and usually gets pretty crowded especially around meal times. Thankfully, the line generally moves fast since most people who do stop by grab the bifana which is pretty quick prep time since the meat is basically stewing. While I agree the bifana is definitely worth grabbing as a quick snack in your adventures through Lisbon, especially when you apply mustard and the chili oil type sauce on it, I actually think some of the other dishes on the menu are both super cheap (only a few euros) and better! In particular, my fiancée and I also ordered the bacalao which was a fried fish dish served with rice and a salad plus the bitoque which is basically a skirt steak with a fried egg that they also throw a ton of fries over. Everything was fresh and well seasoned and super delicious. We had it as our final meal in Portugal and felt like we ended on a pretty high note. Pro tip: There's a bakery right next door (A Padaria Portuguesa) that's okay if you're looking for dessert, but honestly going up the street to Manteigaria for pastel de natas is definitely the move. read more
It's a simple sandwich but it is so delicious. No wonder Anthony Bourdain enjoyed it in this locals joint on his only trip to Lisbon. I indicated "1" to the waiter and he pointed me to a seat. I managed to order a bifana and a cerveja pequena (small beer). When I did so, he brought the usual mustard and peri peri chili oil bottles. When the sandwich arrived, a serious pour of chili oil and I was in heaven. This is so delicious! Sure, they have loads of other stuff on the menu. Bifana is the thing to have. I can see why this is a local favorite. The bifano sandwiches were delicious. I came in the morning and a split a sandwich with a friend. I love cheese so I added Queijo with it and dressed it with the peri peri hot sauce. These bifanos are heaven. It was so good that we came by later I. The afternoon to have our own sandwich with coffee. This is a small place, so you will make friends with lots of people if you choose to dine inside. They only accept euros - no bank cards. read more

So simple, yet so delicious! Most people know this place because Anthony Bourdain visited. However, this has been a neighborhood staple for years. They have a few items on their menu, but you need to come here for their bifanas. It's slow cooked pork loin served on a fresh Portugese roll. It really doesn't look or sound exciting but once you take a bite you'll know why it's the best. For 2€, you can't get a more filling meal for that price. Plus a beer is only 1€! It's the perfect combo. If you want to add more flavor, sprinkle the bifana with some piri piri and mustard. read more

I absolutely loved this place for the ambiance. A ton of tourists and locals. Stopped by around 9pm on a Monday and it was packed! No tables available so we stood while eating. Very fast service and cheap. I did not think it was the best bifana and wish they put some of the juice on the sandwich, but still tasty. Ordered the bifana, soup of the day which was beans and cabbage, and ham and cheese sandwich. Skip the ham and cheese sandwich but get the soup! read more
Anthony Bourdain. Bifana (pork) sandwich. Corner restaurant. Cheap eats. Great times. Yes, you must check this place out for all the reason above. You don't have an excuse to not. Get a sandwich with cheese and 1 without cheese. I also recommend a nice Superbock to go with it. Afterwards, get some egg tarts at the nearby Manteigaria location. Lisbon is a great city! read more

An awesome spot to get bifana and a beer in the evening! Came here almost at closing and got a bifana sandwich and beer and my god was it amazing. The workers there are extremely engaging and was definitely welcome to my friend and I, especially with the language barrier! Worker recommended to also get their ginja drink, which is a famous cherry liquor--definitely tastes like cough syrup to an American palette but is all the rage in Europe! Knowing some Portuguese can get you a long way but they know decent amount of English. If I'm back in Lisboa, I'll definitely have to make time to come by here again! read more
I came here by myself in December and only waited around 15 minutes. It is very busy / crowded and not a lot of seats, so I would recommend getting your food to-go and eating it at the square right across the street. A lot of people would stand and eat at the countertop too. I got the bifana and chicken soup. The bifana was fun to try once, but I wouldn't get it again (it was a little salty for me too and I eat pretty salty). The chicken soup was great for the winter, but nothing special. read more

Loved the authentic deli-feel of this small bar/restaurant! Definitely for the locals but good amount of tourists know about it as well! The Bifana (Portuguese Pork Chop Sandwich) was DELICIOUS! Obsessed with the thinly sliced pork - it had a ton of flavor with the white wine marinade. Additionally, I was a fan of the cheese it was served with and the fresh bread. The chicken samosa had great flavor as well but would've liked this hot. Finally, the Sagres beer was crisp and light - a local beer I would have again! Wish there was more outdoor seating, but overall enjoyed this place a lot read more

Super cute casual spot for a quick/cheap bite! The bifana sandwiches (with cheese) were really good! I loved the texture of the bread (fluffy but dense!) and the pork was sliced thinly and full of flavor. (I also added some mustard!) The chicken samosa was also good but would've been better if it was warmed up! Small outdoor patio for seating but since you're on a corner that's more room than you think! The Sagres beer on draft was served cold so no complaints there! Nice spot when you want to get something quick read more

It's been about 2 weeks since my Lisbon vacation and I'm still dreaming about the bifana from O Trevo. The pork is wonderfully juicy and seasoned sandwiched between fresh Portuguese bread (I added cheese because well, I love cheese) such a simple, delicious and affordable (€3-4) meal/snack snack! The servers are quick and friendly. The line can get quite long but it is definitely worth a visit! read more

Best place in Lisbon to try bifanas (pork sandwich)! The location is very easy to find - just around the corner of Praca Luis de Camoes - one of the busiest areas in Lisbon. And this place seems very popular among the locals which is also a good sign! I ordered for takeout and ate at the sitting areas at the Praca so I didn't need to wait for a table. The pork was being braised all the time and they made my sandwich right away. It's a big portion and costs only 2.5 euros. I really loved the Portuguese mustard they used for the sandwich. Too bad when I passed by this place it was an afternoon snack time, not for dinner. I wish I could come back one day for their formal dishes. read more
Heading over to O Trevo, I was expecting a tourist trap. Many of the restaurants featured on travel shows have become inundated with tourists and have had a decline in quality. Thankfully, O Trevo was a quick stop and we'll worth the detour. It is busy, but service is super fast. There are tables, but people are also eating right on the service counter in front of the cashiers and cooks. Just grab a spot and enjoy. My meal, a sandwich with an large beer, was about €7 and it was one of the most delicious things I had in Portugal. We had phenomenal food on that trip, including eating at a couple of Michelin star restaurants, but somehow this no frills sandwich was my favorite. And, it's specifically the Bifana at O Trevo, we had a couple of others elsewhere and they did not compare. This sandwich was full of tender, juicy, flavorful pork stuffed into a lightly crispy, soft roll. I had cheese added, which was great, but totally not necessary. One quick thing to note, BRING CASH, this was one of the only places I visited in Portugal that was cash only. There is an ATM outside, though it was broken while I was there. There's also a bank not far away in the same square. O Trevo is worth your time, there's a reason locals continue to go there despite all of the tourists. It may be full of tourists, but it's definitely not a trap. read more
Located in one of the busiest squares in Lisboa, Praca Luis de Camoes, this is where locals and tourists seem to gather for a no frills snack/meal. Bifana is the thing to order here, it's a simple sandwich consisting of marinated pork served on a soft bun, enjoyed topped with generous amounts of Peri peri chili sauce or mustard. Got a table outside, a beer to wash down the sandwich as recommended and watched the world walk by. Service is friendly and appreciate that prices are reasonable even after all the attention this place has been getting after Anthony Bourdain's visit. Under 5 euros for the sandwich + beer.
