I'm a huge matcha girlie, and I've been on a quest to find good matcha in PVD- Ceremony definitely hit the spot! We got the Dalgona and Strawberry matcha lattes, of which- surprisingly to us- we liked the former more (just felt like the strawberry way overpowered the matcha). The dalgona was not only interesting to crunch on, but also provided the perfect amount of sweetness once it melted into the drink (could also appreciate the matcha much more in this drink). Ambiance was nice and casual with lots of tables to hang/work at, but it was really busy. Service was fast and friendly. I'll definitely be back to try more, 8/10 would recommend.
This spot serves some of the richest and most flavorful Coffee / Matcha around. The service was excellent, and I loved that they also have a cozy café bar offering adult beverages, which made the experience even more enjoyable. I would definitely return again!
Ceremony is a matcha focused cafe on College Hill in Providence that has built a following well beyond the immediate Brown University and RISD crowd it sits closest to. I walked into a space that is bright and well designed, with large windows bringing in natural light on a sunny day and a layout that works for both sitting with a drink and getting some work done. The matcha program is the reason most people come here. I noticed the menu follows seasons and trends in a way that keeps the offering from feeling static, and the flavor combinations go beyond what most cafes in the area attempt. I tried the strawberry matcha, which is the most liked drink here, and it was decent. The hojicha latte is a strong alternative for anyone who wants something with a roasted, earthier quality rather than the grassy brightness of standard matcha. Sweetener is an add on rather than included by default, which is worth knowing when you place your order, particularly if you are accustomed to cafes that automatically offer a simple syrup option. The menu also extends into wine and cocktails for evening visits, which gives the space a different function than a typical daytime cafe. Consistency on the matcha is mixed, with occasional issues around mixing and clumping that affect both the flavor and the texture. When it is well made, the quality is evident. The cafe gets crowded and loud during peak hours, so visiting on a weekday or arriving early on weekends gives you a better experience of the space. Parking in the area is manageable compared to most of Providence. For a matcha focused cafe with a unique menu and a bright, comfortable space, Ceremony is worth knowing about.
This place ruined all other matches for me. It's just so far superior, it's in a league of its own. Then the cuteness of the Teddy floaters.. stop it now. Just take my money. I like the one on south main a little better, people tend to "camp out" in the cafe on brook street with laptops and very hard to get a seat. No food which usually means you'll need to make another stop somewhere else but the matcha is truly unmatched.
Ceremony is a great cafe near Brown. The matcha drinks are all delicious and actually have a good amount of matcha flavor. They're not overly milky which is a problem I often have at other places. I also really like the large selection of hot teas you can get. They have lots of fun seasonal flavors which I always love. I haven't tried many of their snack items, but they have plenty of selection.
A place where you can actually work and enjoy good matcha and more! They have wine and cocktails too! Worth a try if you're having a tough day or just want to experience good food and drinks with a friendly atmosphere. Hard to find parking so walk if you're nearby. Good onigiri and tayaki!
Tucked away in a vibrant corner off Thayer Street, this modern coffee and tea shop is a true gem. From the moment you step inside, the clean, minimalist design and natural light create an inviting, calming atmosphere. The menu is thoughtfully curated, offering a blend of classic favorites and innovative seasonal drinks. Whether you're in the mood for a velvety matcha or a refreshing yuzu spritz, everything is brewed to perfection. The baristas are clearly passionate about their craft- friendly, knowledgeable, and always happy to offer recommendations based on your taste. Served with attention to detail that borders on ceremonial. Whether you're working on your laptop, catching up with a friend, or simply taking a moment for yourself, Ceremony feels like exactly where you're meant to be.
Ceremony is an Asian-inspired cafe in Providence. It's conveniently located near Brown University, so it gets plenty of traffic from students. Parking is tough in this area, so you're going to have to cross your fingers and circle around. We popped in on a Sunday afternoon to get some drinks before a road trip. It was PACKED with college students studying in groups. There's a decent amount of tables for individuals or groups of two, bar seating near the counter, and a communal table near the back for large groups. The cafe itself is beautiful. Very minimalistic decor, clean, and bright. They have Asian pastries and snacks available for purchase on display, as well as refrigerators filled with canned beverages, liquor (wowwww), and cold foods. Near the back area, they have merchandise and local pottery for sale. Now onto the beverages. There weren't any prices displayed on the menu... personally, that's a pet peeve of mine. You can look them up online... and boy, they are steep! They even charge you ten cents for no ice lol. Since this is an Asian-inspired cafe, most of their drinks have matcha, yuzu, ube, black sesame, masala chai, etc. It's one standard size for all drinks. The owner is passionate about supporting small, family-owned tea farmers in Asia, so she sources her products directly from them. We ordered... *Dirty Matcha 2/5 (~$7) - A latte made with milk, a shot of matcha, and two shots of espresso. I could tell that the matcha they use is high quality because of its vibrant green color. It was earthy and slightly bitter with a natural sweetness. However, the espresso was terrible. I'm not sure what kind of coffee beans they use, but it ruined the whole drink. It's what I imagine murky pond water would taste like... maybe they didn't add enough milk? *Keemun Milk Tea with boba 2/5 (~$8) - Keemun is a type of Chinese black tea with toasty and smoky flavors. They also added lavender syrup, which made it taste very floral... Too floral that I felt like I was drinking perfume. I did not like this at all, but my +1 did. Just a disclaimer... the boba they use is red bean popping boba, which I wasn't a huge fan of. Service was on the slower end due to how busy it was. Maybe I ordered the wrong drinks, but I most likely wouldn't come back if I was in the area. It's a cute cafe to get some work done, but the drinks are overpriced for the portions. I didn't love it, but maybe you will.
Customer service needs a bit of work here. I walked in and the cashier said nothing to me but said hi to the customer behind me. The girl continued to just pick and choose what customers to say hi to. This whole interaction spoiled the whole experience to be honest. Most cafes are inviting and warm this one was cold and standoffish. On to the drinks: -Mango Matcha Latte: this was SO disappointing. There were fibrous pieces of the mango in this drink. I had so much in my mouth throughout the drink. See photos. I threw this drink out after a couple sips. The matcha was so watery and milky. For $7 I would expect them to at least strain the mango puree. -Brown Sugar Hojicha Latte: this was good but not good enough to come back. Overall, service definitely needs work.
Cozy cafe with quality drinks. On the pricer side ($7-10), but good for an occasional treat or meet up with friends! Matcha Latte was a bit bland/tasteless, so my friend had to add some additional simple syrup to bring out the matcha flavor. I was obsessed with the seasonal pear caramel matcha latte the first time I got it - with the pear adding natural sweetness to the earthy matcha. Second time I got it though, the matcha was a bit too bitter to my liking. Service is standard; they get the job done!
This is clearly a popular college hang out spot! There's a little section of cards and gifts and a refrigerator section with some treats to take home. I wanted the ube latte but I'm not sure if they don't have it anymore or were temporarily out. I got the hojicha latte instead and it was tasty. I also grabbed a matcha roll cake slice. I enjoyed the sweet treat. They have a bunch of interesting drinks so I will be back. Parking was tricky. Service was pleasant and answered my questions about how to get my drink (hot or iced, less sweet etc).
This was on my list of places to visit in Providence. It's so nice to see the boom in matcha cafes so I was pretty excited. The matcha was ok, not too bad. I ordered a dirty matcha latte with oat milk. It was definitely not too sweet which is great because I usually ask for half-sweet drinks. The place was packed with students, but there were some tables outside which was fine for a spring day in RI. Also recommend trying the halva babka. It was pretty sweet (so perfect to pair with a less sweet drink) and a big enough piece to share with someone. I will say- we asked for it to be warmed up, but they were unable to do that :( idk why
Good coffee, nice staff. I liked the ability to self order on the screen. The presentation of the espresso bears was an awesome touch. I would come back here again.
Very quaint and minimal tea place in College Hill! Staff was very kind and helpful when we were ordering. My friend and I ordered a matcha latte with oat milk and a matcha affogato. Our drink and dessert came out very quick. There weren't too many people there on a Saturday afternoon--I am assuming because it is new. My friend enjoyed her matcha affogato but it was a VERY small serving. I loved my matcha latte--very good quality matcha. Many reviews mention that the drinks are a bit on the higher end... but with matcha being my favorite tea, I have learned that in most cases, the higher the price, the better quality matcha, which is definitely the case for Ceremony. I would definitely recommend if you're an avid matcha drinker or if you need a quiet place to get work done. read more

Love this spot. Japanese-inspired and gorgeous. It is definitely unmatched in the area. The vibe is wonderful and the staff is friendly in a way that you do not normally see in the Northeast. The drinks are unique and so delicious. We got ours to go. My husband and son got an Ube latte with oat milk, and I got the black sesame. I strongly suggest not getting the coconut and I was warned by the cashier that everyone does not enjoy it (they are large coconut flakes). Aside from this all delicious. I really enjoyed the small marketplace as well. I can not wait to return and try a cold drink with a floating teddy bear! read more
My interest in coming here was piqued when I had heard one friend give me a stellar review, and overhearing that two other friends had horrible experiences. Moving into the space that tealuxe had previously occupied, led me to have high expectations. And to be honest, I am still not sure how I feel about this place. The inside is modern, minimalist, and very white. One friend described it like a hospital, and another compared it to an Apple store (I think the latter is more accurate). My matcha latte was good (I asked them to add simple syrup to make it slightly sweeter, and they happily complied; also I am super happy about the oat milk being the default), but it was definitely not worth $6. I noticed that their menu had a crepe cake, but when I ordered a slice, the worker was unsure what I was talking about (and quickly found out that there were none in stock). The environment is nice and bright (helpful for getting work done!), and the tables are far apart enough so that you don't feel like the people near you can hear or see everything you're talking about or doing. Note: the chairs are a lot lighter than they appear; I have no idea what they are made of but it does not feel like regular wood. Will I come back? Maybe, but not any time in the near future. (Side note: my friend tried one of their zero-proof handcrafted cocktails and was Not a Fan™) read more

I am a match enthusiast so everywhere I go, I look for a God iced matcha latte. I got the red bean one at Ceremony with oat milk and the matcha bear. It was really delicious, but wow almost $11 before tip. The only other thing is that I didn't see fatter straws. It's impossible to drink the red bean with the skinny straws. I'd really give this place 4.5 stars. read more

If you're looking for a unique and fancy tea experience or just a very nice place to do homework and sip on something light, this is the place to be. I can't remember the name of what I ordered but I believe it had soy milk with mango and matcha. I was a fan as it wasn't too sweet and was refreshing. I probably would've picked a different combination since the mango and matcha were a good pair but not great. read more

I stopped by Ceremony on a Saturday afternoon with my Professor. We had a very enjoyable time. We both ordered the "Ceremony" Sencha green tea. The Tea Ceremony comes with three different chahais alongside sip cups. The idea is that each chahai, which is a small glass cup one uses to pour into the sip cup, has a different temperature. We started at 160 degrees and the temperatures slowly increased. The process of making the ceremony teas are quite fascinating. It comes with a small card and our waitress explained the process of brewing with each new chahai. The Sencha green tea has a grassy taste with a buttery after note. It favors a spinach taste, and it's quite delicious. The Sencha, specifically, helps with digestion and strengthens the internal organs. I'd highly recommend trying it. Thee ambience of Ceremony is quite phenomenal. Very modern with abstract art balanced with white tones. It has an aesthetic that screams study and Instagram me please! I'd highly recommend checking it out, even if it's just simply for the experience. They also serve some inexpensive teas for the average undergrad/grad student who wants to maintain the budget. read more
nice cafe!!! it plays smoothing jazz music, very aesthetically pleasing and super clean. it has a lot of asian fusion drinks along with pastries and a little store for snacks. you can order the little bear ice for your cold drinks ($2+ extra). the drinks itself are very solid, can't wait to come back to try other drinks! read more
I ordered the iced strawberry matcha with oat milk and light on the ice. It was yummmmmm!!! They use real strawberries too. I really enjoy their location and am a repeat customer. Great place to bring your laptop and do work as well. read more
A really special place. Focused on matcha and all other things tea (and even bonsai trees), this is a beautiful and quiet spot. Offers delicious tea and coffee-based beverages, Bun's Bakery pastry items--and a selection of local and non-local refrigerated items (think kimchi and mochi). As if that weren't enough other offerings range from fine lose teas to tea ceremonies and classes is preparing matcha. Such a cool cultural resource. One side of the space is a sunny bar, and it's been so nice to sit there in the spring weather with the front door open and a little breeze blowing in. Really needs to be experienced. read more
A E S T H E T I C. This place was already so beautiful at its old location but the new location is honestly GORGEOUS VIBES. It is so clean and beautiful. As soon as you walk in, you are just welcomed by this crisp, modern, clean vibe of a place. The lighting fixtures are so pretty, modern, and bright. I can imagine sitting down and getting work done here. The drinks are great, a little on the pricey side but still very reasonable. I love all things matcha, and they have so many options. The strawberry matcha, lavender matcha, brown sugar boba, and yuzu drinks are my favorites. The drinks aren't too sweet, which is nice. They have alcoholic drinks now at their new location - I haven't tried their cocktails yet but they sound divine (especially the yuzu ones!). And of course their drinks are also very very pretty and photogenic. I also love that there is now a cute area where they sell snacks like matcha ice cream, Sun and Moon bimbap, and Asian drinks that you might normally find at an Asian grocery store. How cute! And of course they sell looseleaf tea too! Finally, they have a tea room apparently that you have to reserve in advance, but I will totally look into this because it seems like just a lovely experience to do a tea ceremony here. Don't forget you can sign up for their rewards program on their payment app Toasttab! I already loved Ceremony Tea before they moved locations, but there's even more of it to love now! read more
High quality TEA (!!!) cafe. Relaxing, spacious, thoughtfully designed interior with tea gifts, Asian snacks, and their own custom designed tote bags and t shirts. Their menu is incredible, so many delicious combinations of signature tea lattes and they even offer teddys as toppings, how cute!! The price is extremely reasonable for the high quality and oat milk does not cost extra! I forgot to get less sugar and ice as I usually do at boba places but the amount they put in my brown sugar hojicha latte was perfect. Hope they open more locations as I was just visiting Providence. This is a tea lovers paradise! read more

As a matcha lover, I so appreciate this place! I tend to not go for matcha drinks at the average coffee shop because it usually is poor quality and not worth the price. Totally not the case here - High quality matcha for purists like me as well as lots of other specialty drinks and add ons to please anyone. Interior is pretty, bright, and calm. There is some working space available but not tons. Staff was helpful telling me about the various drink specials and flavor profiles. Will definitely come back! read more

It is a gem store near Brown University. My only complaint is the crowd. But good thing worth to wait as usual. read more
Ceremony is the dreamiest tea room you can imagine right in the heart of Providence. Their drinks are absolutely unmatched, creative, delicious, refreshing and healthy. You can tell the owner has really poured her heart and soul into the business and beverages and the curated items that she still sells in the store. We love to grab a Matcha here. This time around I got a dirty Matcha with an iced espresso teddy bear and my husband got a caramel hot latte. When you go to ceremony, I highly recommend getting the teddy bear you can get it either and strawberry Matcha or espresso! The customer service is always great. Everyone is always helpful behind the counter and the ambience is super relaxed, sophisticated, and very relaxing. read more
Bright clean shop! I love the addition of items and flowers! The brown sugar latte was amazing. Drinks are pricey but delightful! They don't up charge oat or almond milk which is great! Iced strawberry green tea latte is the bomb! This place is a Japanese tea house right on the corner of Thayer and Angell. They even use a traditional bamboo whisk to make the green tea portion. When they are done it is 3 distinct colors. It's refreshing and so delicious! read more
I have given up coffee and was craving matcha after a sleepless night. I stumbled upon Ceremony and said to myself this is the place. I got there around 8:45am not sure when they open but it looked like it was just getting ready for the day. As soon as I walked in the vibe is uplifting, bright, clean, trendy, and exactly what I was looking for. I was chatting with the barista and gave her a idea of what I was looking for and she suggested the ceremonial grade match with lavender infused syrup. I was sold. Not too sweet just right, light ice, and oat milk. I noticed they also have a cocktail bar and spotted a few mocktails on the menu Didn't check out the back seating area or what they offer for food but excited to return and explore! read more

I absolutely recommend this cafe! I ordered an iced matcha latte with oat milk and it was perfect. Loved the space, playlist, vibe and customer service! Today I learned that I don't like matcha. It was my first time trying it after reading all of the reviews here raving about how it was the best matcha ever. I guess matcha is just not for me but I would definitely return here to try something else! It was very busy and all of the drinks looked delicious (including my strawberry matcha even if I didn't like the taste). Prices are higher but the drinks are unique so I expected that. The space itself is extremely aesthetically pleasing. Parking was easy to find on the street. read more

Such great variety of drinks. I tried matcha once before somewhere else and didn't like it much but Ceremony has me hooked! Best matcha around. Their strawberry matcha is great! I went here for the first time as a yelp elite with a free beverage coming to me I got the mint ice coffee which was out of this world if it wasn't for the fact that the parking in that area sucks I would definitely be going back there at least once a week to get the same mint iced coffee it hit the spot it was just perfect and fresh made to order the girls working behind the counter were very nice and knowledgeable and really knew their job and that was the best part about it I really enjoyed myself I'm so glad I had this opportunity to try this particular café and hopefully someday will be able to get to go back again. read more

Ceremony is the most LOVELY addition to Thayer Street!! The space is full of so much light and beautifully designed. It's impossible to choose, but I'd recommend the lavender or strawberry matcha!! They have two non-dairy milk options, and even have vegan pastries! They also sell packaged tea and I routinely purchase the $12 tin of matcha to make my own lattes at home!! The matchas can be pricey in store due to the amazing quality and sourcing directly from farmers, so this is a great option to make them at home using their powder. I do always love a visit to the store though! Michelle, the owner is so friendly and their Instagram is gorgeous and conveys Ceremony's vibe beautifully! Shoutout to Trang Anh for being my favorite barista! Ceremony also has coffee, but I'll always prefer a good matcha and they certainly have that! They also continuously have creative specials! read more
This spot is probably the best spot in the area for boba tea. I was disappointed at the kungfu tea and vivi locations nearby. Ceremony is a very neat area and clean inside. Only street parking. I tried the lavender matcha because it was unique and I never saw that flavor mixed together before. It is supposedly made with organic premium matcha, homemade lavender syrup and your choice of milk. I chose oat milk. I thought the lavender made the entire drink very overpoweringly floral tasting. I was not a fan of that but it wasn't bad by any means. I was expecting just a hint of the lavender but it is pretty strong. My friends had both the lavender and the strawberry one and they told me they liked the strawberry one, so I will be trying that next time. Hope that helps. Overall, I would go back if I was in the area. Ceremony seems like they also specialize in actual tea, so I got a sense that I got better ingredients in the boba teas, compared to the other boba places. read more
Ceremony is consistently one of the best tea/coffee cafés in Providence! Their ambiance is adorable and can serve as a great meeting space or working area, their staff (especially Emily) are super friendly, and their flavors are unique and customizable to your dietary needs (they have non dairy milk options like oat milk!) I always enjoy coming to ceremony for a pick-me-up in the afternoon, and I love that they have different teas that they can make their lattes with (hojicha for instance is less caffeine intensive which is very helpfyl for me!) I love their caffeine free ube latte and black sesame latte, but I recently really enjoyed their peppermint hojicha latte. Their drinks are usually just about the right sweetness without being overpowering, and just being at ceremony feels like a great recharge for the rest of the day. read more

Usually if I'm on Thayer Street and looking to treat myself to a sweet beverage I'll get bubble tea. I'm so glad I tried out Ceremony for something new! The prices are quite high ($5.25 for an iced matcha latte) but the quality is super high to match! I'm not an expert on matcha, but my iced matcha tasted amazing: rich, frothy, and not too sweet. They actually don't serve any dairy milk at all which I wholly support. You can choose between oat and soy milk! Everything is made to order with care so it's not somewhere I would visit in a huge rush. Ceremony is just a nice as it looks from the outside. I'll definitely come back here when I'm feeling wealthy! read more

Solid spot for work and quality beverages. I typically only get iced americano because anything else is $$$$$. Go to spot for coffee- iced americano with oat milk is exactly what I need every single time.
