I'm a huge matcha girlie, and I've been on a quest to find good matcha in PVD- Ceremony definitely hit the spot! We got the Dalgona and Strawberry matcha lattes, of which- surprisingly to us- we liked the former more (just felt like the strawberry way overpowered the matcha). The dalgona was not only interesting to crunch on, but also provided the perfect amount of sweetness once it melted into the drink (could also appreciate the matcha much more in this drink). Ambiance was nice and casual with lots of tables to hang/work at, but it was really busy. Service was fast and friendly. I'll definitely be back to try more, 8/10 would recommend.
This spot serves some of the richest and most flavorful Coffee / Matcha around. The service was excellent, and I loved that they also have a cozy café bar offering adult beverages, which made the experience even more enjoyable. I would definitely return again!
Ceremony is a matcha focused cafe on College Hill in Providence that has built a following well beyond the immediate Brown University and RISD crowd it sits closest to. I walked into a space that is bright and well designed, with large windows bringing in natural light on a sunny day and a layout that works for both sitting with a drink and getting some work done. The matcha program is the reason most people come here. I noticed the menu follows seasons and trends in a way that keeps the offering from feeling static, and the flavor combinations go beyond what most cafes in the area attempt. I tried the strawberry matcha, which is the most liked drink here, and it was decent. The hojicha latte is a strong alternative for anyone who wants something with a roasted, earthier quality rather than the grassy brightness of standard matcha. Sweetener is an add on rather than included by default, which is worth knowing when you place your order, particularly if you are accustomed to cafes that automatically offer a simple syrup option. The menu also extends into wine and cocktails for evening visits, which gives the space a different function than a typical daytime cafe. Consistency on the matcha is mixed, with occasional issues around mixing and clumping that affect both the flavor and the texture. When it is well made, the quality is evident. The cafe gets crowded and loud during peak hours, so visiting on a weekday or arriving early on weekends gives you a better experience of the space. Parking in the area is manageable compared to most of Providence. For a matcha focused cafe with a unique menu and a bright, comfortable space, Ceremony is worth knowing about.
This place ruined all other matches for me. It's just so far superior, it's in a league of its own. Then the cuteness of the Teddy floaters.. stop it now. Just take my money. I like the one on south main a little better, people tend to "camp out" in the cafe on brook street with laptops and very hard to get a seat. No food which usually means you'll need to make another stop somewhere else but the matcha is truly unmatched.
Ceremony is a great cafe near Brown. The matcha drinks are all delicious and actually have a good amount of matcha flavor. They're not overly milky which is a problem I often have at other places. I also really like the large selection of hot teas you can get. They have lots of fun seasonal flavors which I always love. I haven't tried many of their snack items, but they have plenty of selection.
A place where you can actually work and enjoy good matcha and more! They have wine and cocktails too! Worth a try if you're having a tough day or just want to experience good food and drinks with a friendly atmosphere. Hard to find parking so walk if you're nearby. Good onigiri and tayaki!
Tucked away in a vibrant corner off Thayer Street, this modern coffee and tea shop is a true gem. From the moment you step inside, the clean, minimalist design and natural light create an inviting, calming atmosphere. The menu is thoughtfully curated, offering a blend of classic favorites and innovative seasonal drinks. Whether you're in the mood for a velvety matcha or a refreshing yuzu spritz, everything is brewed to perfection. The baristas are clearly passionate about their craft- friendly, knowledgeable, and always happy to offer recommendations based on your taste. Served with attention to detail that borders on ceremonial. Whether you're working on your laptop, catching up with a friend, or simply taking a moment for yourself, Ceremony feels like exactly where you're meant to be.
Ceremony is an Asian-inspired cafe in Providence. It's conveniently located near Brown University, so it gets plenty of traffic from students. Parking is tough in this area, so you're going to have to cross your fingers and circle around. We popped in on a Sunday afternoon to get some drinks before a road trip. It was PACKED with college students studying in groups. There's a decent amount of tables for individuals or groups of two, bar seating near the counter, and a communal table near the back for large groups. The cafe itself is beautiful. Very minimalistic decor, clean, and bright. They have Asian pastries and snacks available for purchase on display, as well as refrigerators filled with canned beverages, liquor (wowwww), and cold foods. Near the back area, they have merchandise and local pottery for sale. Now onto the beverages. There weren't any prices displayed on the menu... personally, that's a pet peeve of mine. You can look them up online... and boy, they are steep! They even charge you ten cents for no ice lol. Since this is an Asian-inspired cafe, most of their drinks have matcha, yuzu, ube, black sesame, masala chai, etc. It's one standard size for all drinks. The owner is passionate about supporting small, family-owned tea farmers in Asia, so she sources her products directly from them. We ordered... *Dirty Matcha 2/5 (~$7) - A latte made with milk, a shot of matcha, and two shots of espresso. I could tell that the matcha they use is high quality because of its vibrant green color. It was earthy and slightly bitter with a natural sweetness. However, the espresso was terrible. I'm not sure what kind of coffee beans they use, but it ruined the whole drink. It's what I imagine murky pond water would taste like... maybe they didn't add enough milk? *Keemun Milk Tea with boba 2/5 (~$8) - Keemun is a type of Chinese black tea with toasty and smoky flavors. They also added lavender syrup, which made it taste very floral... Too floral that I felt like I was drinking perfume. I did not like this at all, but my +1 did. Just a disclaimer... the boba they use is red bean popping boba, which I wasn't a huge fan of. Service was on the slower end due to how busy it was. Maybe I ordered the wrong drinks, but I most likely wouldn't come back if I was in the area. It's a cute cafe to get some work done, but the drinks are overpriced for the portions. I didn't love it, but maybe you will.
Customer service needs a bit of work here. I walked in and the cashier said nothing to me but said hi to the customer behind me. The girl continued to just pick and choose what customers to say hi to. This whole interaction spoiled the whole experience to be honest. Most cafes are inviting and warm this one was cold and standoffish. On to the drinks: -Mango Matcha Latte: this was SO disappointing. There were fibrous pieces of the mango in this drink. I had so much in my mouth throughout the drink. See photos. I threw this drink out after a couple sips. The matcha was so watery and milky. For $7 I would expect them to at least strain the mango puree. -Brown Sugar Hojicha Latte: this was good but not good enough to come back. Overall, service definitely needs work.
Cozy cafe with quality drinks. On the pricer side ($7-10), but good for an occasional treat or meet up with friends! Matcha Latte was a bit bland/tasteless, so my friend had to add some additional simple syrup to bring out the matcha flavor. I was obsessed with the seasonal pear caramel matcha latte the first time I got it - with the pear adding natural sweetness to the earthy matcha. Second time I got it though, the matcha was a bit too bitter to my liking. Service is standard; they get the job done!
This is clearly a popular college hang out spot! There's a little section of cards and gifts and a refrigerator section with some treats to take home. I wanted the ube latte but I'm not sure if they don't have it anymore or were temporarily out. I got the hojicha latte instead and it was tasty. I also grabbed a matcha roll cake slice. I enjoyed the sweet treat. They have a bunch of interesting drinks so I will be back. Parking was tricky. Service was pleasant and answered my questions about how to get my drink (hot or iced, less sweet etc).
This was on my list of places to visit in Providence. It's so nice to see the boom in matcha cafes so I was pretty excited. The matcha was ok, not too bad. I ordered a dirty matcha latte with oat milk. It was definitely not too sweet which is great because I usually ask for half-sweet drinks. The place was packed with students, but there were some tables outside which was fine for a spring day in RI. Also recommend trying the halva babka. It was pretty sweet (so perfect to pair with a less sweet drink) and a big enough piece to share with someone. I will say- we asked for it to be warmed up, but they were unable to do that :( idk why
Good coffee, nice staff. I liked the ability to self order on the screen. The presentation of the espresso bears was an awesome touch. I would come back here again.

Loved this place! I saw it online before visiting Providence and came here solely for the matcha with the bear ice cube, and it didn't disappoint! The matcha was delicious and looked amazing. The only reason I'm not giving this place 5 stars is because it is a bit pricey. However, if I find myself in Providence again, I would love to come back! read more
Ceremony deserves all the stars! The drinks are delicious and of the highest quality. The employees are friendly and knowledgeable. The interior is clean and spread out with a small section of goods to purchase. The only negative I could find is that the drinks can get pricey but I made my own and ultimately, you get what you pay for which in this case is the highest quality teas and drinks. PS...the little bears are a must buy for first timers! They are adorable and if you want to get something "Instagram-able" this is surely it! read more

Love this new discovery of mine. Ever since we found this cute esthetic cafe with unique drinks, we went back more times than I can count. My favorites are the Lavender Hojicha Latte, Ube Latte, Dalgona (honey comb candy) Coffee Latte, Honey Lavender Latte. You can also customize your drinks or build your own combo. Each time I tried a new drink, I end up liking. There are also matcha drinks and drinks where you can add a iced teddy bear in it. Wish we had a place like this in Boston. They had bar seating, a bunch of 1 +1 tables and group tables. it is so clean, light and modern. read more
First time to Ceremony and was completely delighted with the service and my drink. The new location is beautiful, clean and modern. The drink menu is cute, but a bit on the pricey side. The tea aroma is quite strong and unique. I tried the lavender matcha and it was very delicious. Will be back to try another fun drink soon! read more
My boyfriend and I were visiting Providence, RI and we were on Thayer Street. I really like the ambience in Ceremony and the workers there were really sweet I was having a hard time deciding my drink. The Dalgona Coffee was great the perfect sweetness for my coffee. I saw that the store also sold a lot of Japanese products I thought that was pretty cool. If I was still a college student I would totally study here. read more

My friend and I signed up for a private tea ceremony and it was absolutely delightful. Our server was so kind and knowledgeable about each tea as she prepared it for us. She also brought us a tasty taiyaki snack, and chit chatted with us as we sipped. I recommend this for tea lovers and tea-hesitant folks alike, as each tea was delicious, without a hint of bitterness. read more

What a fun addition to Thayer street. You walk into the store and immediately see how clean it is. They offer merchandise such as loose leave tea, tea cups and treats. I was greeted as soon as I walked in. They even have knead donuts!!!! That is a super plus for me! The strawberry Matcha was a very refreshing summer treat. I bought jasmine loose leave tea that was Phenomenal. read more

So glad you've been enjoying ceremony! Did you mean to say the drinks…

The atmosphere was so different from any cafe I have ever been in. Located in such a great spot in Providence near Brown University. I found parking on the street no problem. The strawberry matcha is made with homemade strawberry sauce and you can add one if there matcha teddy to order. The brown sugar latte you can add an espresso teddy or CBD shot to order. I was so pleased with the service and welcoming vibes. The white decor really makes the boutique items stand out (Looseleaf, teaware and retail items) I am really interested in going back to try the spiced brown sugar boba, made with brown sugar molasses and spices. I am also interested in the tea ceremony tasting for up to 4 people. The tea is chosen from China, Taiwan and Japan served in tea ware from China and Japan. read more

Pretty space. Got the Iced Ube Latte with Oat Milk and Espresso Bear- so so delicious. I wanted to turn around when I came home and swallowed my last sip to get another one! Can't wait to go again and try a different combination! read more

This place is great! Just accidentally ordered two of the iced strawberry Matcha lattes and I tried to call them immediately to cancel the second, but couldn't get through. I was only around the corner and ran inside like a psycho and tried to catch them before they made it, but they had just put it up where the pick up orders go. When I explained it to them, they told me just to leave my ticket with my name on it, and that they would try and fix it and told me just to take the extra one because it was gonna get thrown away anyway. Good atmosphere and good vibes in there! On that note, obsessed with the strawberry matcha iced latte read more

Came here for a matcha latte and had a good experience! I ordered online which was easy and I picked it up at the store. Definitely want to go back, it's just not the easiest to get a parking spot near on Thayer. Matcha was great!! My friend got the nitro cold brew and enjoyed it as well. read more
PVD's tea version of 3rd wave specialty coffee... and I like it! I haven't tried anything except the tea, (correctly brewed? Check) and some specialty drinks that are like candy to me (black sesame, check, and yum!). This tea spot is a big improvement over the tea shop that existed in this space previously, which frankly served tea that tasted like stale Lipton or Stash bags from the grocery store. PVD has a lot of tea options now and what makes this spot stand out is that the tea is front and center and not just another option for ppl that don't like coffee. Ceremony even has options for serious tea drinkers or aspiring tea drinkers of the "Tea Drunk" variety. As a long time chaser of Tea Drunkdom myself, I look forward to drinking through the menu. read more

This cafe deserves a Michelin star! I would drive here just for their coffee and teas. The place is curated beautifully and their drinks was so refreshing and delicious. I recommend the iced Dalgona latte, strawberry matcha latte and lavender latte with oatmilk. What a wonderful experience! read more
This is definitely going to become my new favorite coffee shop in Providence! I like that you can preorder your drinks. I originally ordered the Boba Latte, but that was not ready when I went in. I got the Iced Chai Latte instead. And of course I had to get a Teddy Bear because he is so cute The chai was delicious and I loved adding the espresso teddy with it to make this drink a dirty chai. The Mochi Matcha was really good too, I got the red bean one which was delicious. The staff was very nice and I was the only customer in there so I felt safe. They did a good job at marking the 6 feet distance regulations in the store as well! This was a perfect way to start my Saturday!! read more

Read and saw alot of reviews and IG photos online and made this a must try on my list. The shop's aesthetics was modern and clean, perfect for if you're catching up with a friend over coffee/drink. The presentation of the drink is really cute especially with the teddy bear but for the price of the drinks, the taste was disappointing. I got the Strawberry matcha latte and I couldn't really taste much matcha until the matcha bear melted which was maybe an hour or so later. It felt like it was mainly milk and strawberry. My 3 other friends got the ube latte and were also not impressed. They felt like they were just drinking milk. It's not our first time having matcha or ube so we know what to expect in terms of taste. This will probably be a one time experience only. read more

Ceremony has the best atmosphere of any coffee or tea shop I have ever been to, hands down! Their drink menu is the perfect size, offering a decent variety of drinks without being too overwhelming. It was very easy to read and understand. No prices are listed on the menu in the shop, which is a pleasant touch, as it gives off high-end vibes. When it came time to pay, I was surprised to see that before tip, the strawberry matcha latte was only $6 and change! At Ceremony, you truly get a luxurious experience and product at a fair price. There are a variety of both inside and outdoor seating, however, outdoor seating is limited. There are tables inside as well as a counter you can sit at either by yourself or with friends. There is music playing, which really added to the pleasant ambiance of the shop. I could not believe how clean the shop was kept, either! The strawberry matcha was amazing, as well! The offer their drinks in both glass cups for consumption at the shop itself as well as to-go cups, similar to what most shops offer. The option to enjoy your drink in a real glass in the shop is a fantastic touch, though! The best thing about Ceremony was the staff. They are all very knowledgable, answering questions I had about the different teas and beverages they offer. They were all extremely kind and willing to help out. Thank you Ceremony staff for providing such a pleasant experience! read more

What I would have given to have this place there when I was at Brown. My partner and I went to walk around PVD and our alma mater and stopped in Ceremony. I had seen several of my foodie friends on IG posting about it. When we went in, the doors were open (allowing good air flow) and everyone working there was masked up. Very very clean. I ordered a mojito coffee with soy milk, which is exactly what it sounds like (sans alcohol). It was impressive that those two drinks could be melded together so well. Huge fan and will definitely be coming back! read more

Very unique experience with an area great for studying/working and a side bar with specialty drinks. This place was aesthetically pleasing but I only gave 3 stars because I had high hopes for the matcha drinks. I have heard great reviews on the authenticity of the matcha but with the two drinks I ordered, the matcha taste wasn't that strong. The red bean was a bit hard and the strawberry jam was overpowering the matcha taste. However, I would definitely want to come back and try their other drinks. read more

Saw this place on IG and decided to take my daughter to get a cute little treat for becoming a middle schooler. I only got the brown sugar boba latte . It was pretty tasty. The boba was nice and chewy and had the perfect amount of sweetness. Its an ig worthy drink. I wouldn't struggle to find parking to get one tho. read more
A haven of calm beauty on bustling Thayer street. I'm a regular here in the mornings. It's quiet, easy to find a table and soothing. This may not be the place for students in a budget: a pot of tea can be over $10. But, they give you lots of cups and bring out new pots steeped fresh from the same leaves. You and friends can enjoy tea for a good while! And the tea really is fantastic. If you are there alone try the green tea latte with oatmilk... close to Starbucks prices for one drink. I now also have an unfortunate addiction to their black sesame latte (no caffeine); it's nutty and really not sweet. They have an evening non alcoholic drink scene I'm anxious to try ... definitely a worthy new addition to the Thayer scene. read more

Ceremony is truly everything I could want in a tea shop. It has more approachable, crowd-pleasing drinks like matcha lattes (and now with boba) as well as rarer teas sourced directly from farms in East Asia. Everything I've had has been so fresh and delicious, unlike many other places where the matcha tastes powder-y or the drinks are over sweetened. I also want to emphasize the quality of tea they use. The tea ceremonies they offer truly highlight this in how full the flavors are, even after multiple steeps. It's been really hard to find authentic, well-sourced teas and in this regard, ceremony is such an asset to the community. This is now the only place I get tea for brewing at home as well. I make a point to visit tea shops whenever I travel and I don't think I've encountered a place in the United States that's gotten it right the way ceremony has, which is why this review is so glowing. I've tried almost all the items on the menu and my personal favorites include: rose oolong, sencha, chamomile, nitro keemun, matcha latte w/ red bean. But seriously, go in, try everything! read more

Wow! I've been following the CeremonyPVD Instagram for over a year and I finally had the chance to go! I had the Ube latte, the Strawberry Matcha, Ume Onigiri and the Katsu Onigirazu. It was AMAZING!! I wish I lived closer because I would be there every single day! I can't wait to go back and try more - especially the teddy bears that you can get for your drinks!! The staff was amazing and the atmosphere was so relaxed! What are you doing still reading this? GO TO CEREMONY NOW!! read more
