What can I say, it's a cable company. I definitely feel they are a lot better then cox. I would prefer to stick with cable. House is set up for cable, and I do not want any dish hanging on the side of the house with wiring and holes all over the house. I have no issues with the internet speed and connection. The cable is great, rarely have any interruptions. I can not complain about their product. Their customer service is another thing. First, all you idiots out their complaining about your bill keeps getting raised. Well most of you signed up based off a promotion, what do you expect? They dont last forever. We are having the absolute WORST experience working with CenturyLink. We had a technician come out the other day to fix our intermittent internet signal and he apparently rewired everything and Wi-Fi seemed to be working fine before he left. Unfortunately now the problem is the same if not worse than before! How is this possible?! I've shed eons of time off my life on the phone with technical support after calls dropping and getting a different person each time - resetting my modem and telling me to observe for 24 hours. They sent me a new modem yesterday and it's still not helping. I can't do this anymore. Total nightmare working from home and having an intermittent signal. There has GOT to be another way! On Sunday July 3rd, my internet went down. I called an the tech support line was closed - they are only open Monday - Friday 8am to 6pm. I had to use the chat feature, 3 times I got disconnected. Finaily the four person "helped" me, in that they found out that the modem was bad - since it is a century link modem they have to replace it. Now the fun really begins, they can even process it until Monday - oh and wait UPS is closed on Monday - actually they are not but hey it is what it is - CenturyLink it to cheap to pay for holiday delivery. Then I call on Tuesday to insure I will have the modem by Wed (as promised by the person), oh it is still in process - yeah well that mean it is not going out today because it is three o'clock where I am. So I will not be getting my new modem until the earliest is Thursday. Really wonderful! So now 4 days with out internet at my house, so I have had to find somewhere to work as I work from home, and well there is nothing to watch because of course no internet. I have had century link for two months, and as of the first of the month they took Payment Out Of My account and yet have been without internet for one week now, for what they say is non payment! I have made six phone calls for a total of over 6 hours of phone time. Even after talking to supervisor last night and being Promised it would be working in morning it is still not working! I just switched from Cox to Century Link. Cox had recently increased the cost for my 50 megabit plan to 73.99 per month. I was able to get a 40 megabit plan for 36.75/month including the modem with my Direct TV subscription. Switching was smooth and easy. My kids didn't notice it. I used an internet network speed test to measure the speeds of both Cox and CentruyLink. With Cox, my peak download speed was 50 mb as advertised. With CenturyLink the peak download speed is consistently about 35 mb for downloads (compared to the advertised 40 mb). Ping times are longer with CenturyLink too (44 ms vs 11 ms for Cox). Bottom line, CenturyLink is fast enough and the transition was painless. read more

Oh my gosh where do I begin!?!? I attempted to sign up for CenturyLink internet 2 years ago...I think I ended up canceling my account with them after a week due to the horrendous "customer service" I was receiving and the fact that they could never get my internet working. So after a short lived 'relationship' with them I canceled the account and returned the equipment. After that, I never heard/received anything from them...until today! TWO YEARS after canceling my 'service' and ridding myself of this problem I receive a letter informing me they've sent my account to ERC for collection efforts. It says I have a balance of $70.53 with them. I never had ONE day of internet with them, and I don't have their useless non-working equipment. So what on EARTH of they trying to charge me for??? Then I tried to get help with their online chat....they couldn't do anything for me because my account has been closed! I'll have to contact their collection department on Monday! Wow. Atrocious. Only got the one star because you can't give zero. My son is moving into a new apartment, where you can only use Centurylink for internet/cable. He moved in on April 11. On April 6 he called to have it hooked up, but they couldn't bother themselves to get out there until 4/17. On 4/16, he got an email saying it was cancelled. He spent 4 hours on the phone, finally getting someone to say they weren't sure what happened, but got it rescheduled for 4/22. On 4/18, he got another email stating the 4/22 appointment had been cancelled. Both times he was given the reason that Centurylink didn't service that building. Patently untrue. We got the number of the local sales person, who has a problem returning phone calls, or texts. If you have an option, do not use this service. read more

They cannot provide the service they claim to offer, forget about honest speeds, copper based service is interrupted by an outage every couple months, takes days to get it back, customer service is clueless, and basically nobody cares. Many times I've called about poor internet speed/service/connection out/etc - every single time, without exception the problem has been on their end. Trying to use chat on their web site doesn't work as the link seems to be broken and so you are relegated to calling. Absolutely the worst cable and Internet provider! Every week I lose signal and my Internet stops working or slows down! Multiple times a week I turn my TV on and it says no signal. Or I'll be watching TV and the screen goes blank, the pops up with a no signal screen. Every month they take my payment directly out of my bank account, so I keep up to my end if this contract. We love Centurylink. We have a dedicated DSL line where others cannot use our data. The price is a fixed price. You can cancel anytime. The price we pay is for life. It does not go up year after year like Cox. The special was $49.99, plus modem of $10/month and tax. That comes out to be around $65 to $70/month and we get upto 80 mbps. Our steady Ookla test is between 50 and 70 mbps which is expected using wireless. If it were wired direct to laptop, I'm sure it would be higher. MBPS - 5 stars, same mbps as Cox Customer Service - 5 stars, technician took his time for install and shared knowledgeable information. Long long story short, canceled prism cable service (kept internet) because the rates got too high after telling me they would adjust the price...never happened. Sent me a box to return everything, packed it up and shipped the next day, did not write the tracking # down because eh, I though they were trustworthy. Then I see a $336.00 charge (4 weeks later) on my account for un-returned boxes!! I called and chatted online, multiple times only to be told they have NO RECORD of returned equipment and don't keep tracking numbers and maybe call UPS to see if they can find it. Called to UPS and they said if they created the label they have it for 90 days automatically it stays there for 90 days! Finally had my husband call and talk to someone let them know we already talked to UPS and someone from their company and we WILL be having a refund, she says "oh, I see right here on the account is says we received the equipment, all they have to do is pull up your account" all these phone calls and chat conversations and photo were the same day within 1 hour of each other. Update 9/1 No refund, checked my online acct with Centurylink and they credited it to my account to use for future bills, um no I want the money back in my account that you took from it. Called at 5:15 after work to Billing (India) transferred to Payment Specialist transferred BACK to Billing, then oh we need to TRANSFER you to returns. On hold until 6 pm when they close and kicked back to India. So I will call first thing when they open and wait all day if I have to someone will be speaking with me! Update 9/15 After being told on 9/1 a check would be cut and mailed THE NEXT DAY, still no check. I called today, after being on hold for 45 min (The fastest it's ever been might I add) the lady tells me " I apologize, I am not sure who you spoke to but, we don't offer check refunds on active accounts only credits" So you are telling me I can cancel my account to get the check but you can not cut it now, when #1 you were NOT authorized to withdraw it and #2 it was YOUR error in billing. Now they are saying we are locked into a 24 month commitment of which we are only on month 4, we have never signed any paperwork other than our initial agreement 1.5 years ago for a 12 month term which we fulfilled and if we want to cancel it's a $200 ETF fee. Was given a two week suspense for when they would bury the lines ( currently the lines piggy off of our neighbors) when I called them after 4 weeks they said oh we are behind it'll be done within 40 days. ...well its been 156 days and the line is still laying across the sidewalk and hooked to our neighbors house. The quality of the Internet is mediocre at best. It cuts out frequently. Their only redeeming quality is that their customer service is not as rude as cox! We asked for upgraded internet and they send out a tech that was nasty and rude and complained about our switches in the house then yelled at my husband over the phone. Unethical. Liars. Very poor customer service. My bill doubled with no notice. I have been charged $98.00 a month for just internet. My internet starts shutting off every 2 weeks until I pay $125 - $150 ransom. Then my wife spends 45 minutes on the phone to get service back on. They said they were going to lower the bill and send a better modem with no extra charges.... A week later a technician shows up to do an upgrade.... What??? Another 45 minute phone call and we find out we were lied to and the rep we spoke to last week upgraded us. I guess they just do what they want to do. This company is an absolute disaster, and the Internet service is horrible! The only reason I gave it even one star is because 0 is not an option. Two words describe what you can expect from their internet service ... CONSTANT BUFFERING! As for the customer service, it is non-existent. The billing is even worse. You can't cancel online, and you can't get through on the phone to cancel without waiting for a LOOOOONG time and then arguing with a service rep! I have lived in or around 6 big cities in the US over the years, and I've never experienced service and customer service as laughably horrible as Century Link's. The internet service is SLLOOOOOWW, and you can't stream a movie or show unless you have time and patience for 2 minutes of buffering every 30 seconds. No lie - constant buffering!! It is literally like having dial-up TV and internet minus the screeches and hums of the old modems. Oh! Speaking of the modem ... we purchased a CenturyLink modem over the phone at the time of setup. Somehow that purchase went through Best Buy, but nonetheless we got the modem that CenturyLink ordered for us. So when I called and spoke with not just 1 but 4 - 4! - service reps, the last guy (Paulo) blamed the modem for the horrible performance and said I bought the wrong modem (that they charged me for twice ). So after I pointed out that CenturyLink ordered the modem for me, he said "Oh, yes, I see that here now". Then he offered me a new, "better" free modem if I didn't cancel. He didn't have a reply when I asked why they didn't send me the better modem to begin wNeedless to say, I cancelled and switched companies. To recap: IT IS AWFUL! Go to ANY OTHER company!! Terrible customer service. My rented (from them) modem failed on a Saturday night, leaving me with NO INTERNET. Calls to customer service were routed to an overseas location where reps could not understand me, even though English is my first language. One hung up on me when she was clearly confused about what to do, and the next one (after a lengthy process of going through their automated system and being transferred yet again) lied and told me that it was "a local outage in your area affecting 28 customers" and that it should be resolved within 12 hours. IT WAS NOT--and neither of them created a repair ticket that could be tracked. Finally, on Sunday morning, I reached someone in the US who understood my problem, ordered a new router to be sent to me for Tuesday delivery, and scheduled a technician to visit on Wednesday. All went according to plan, but the day after the technician corrected everything, my wireless service became erratic--sometimes I could connect and sometimes not. More calls, more on-line chat with someone/somewhere who insisted my service was working properly--they simply did NOT understand. Finally, in desperation, I ordered new Internet service from a different provider who was able to schedule a next-day installation (with faster speed, a lower price, and US-based customer service) FOR THE VERY NEXT DAY. read more

Thinking of switching from Cox to Century Link? DON'T DO IT! Worst customer service. Ever. We simply wanted a phone line switched over due to rising costs from Cox. Not everyone wants a house phone these days but we still want one for the kids. My husband was told installation would take place on a Friday between 8am-5pm and someone must be home. So I stayed home from work and errands to wait for the technician. Nine long hours pass, no phone, no technician, no call, no card left, not one knock on the door, nothing. Called the company, waited for another hour to learn that they show the service is installed. I checked phone line again, nope, still isn't working. I asked why the technician didn't knock on my door to check install or inform me he was finished with services? Customer service rep literally DID NOT RESPOND. Complete silence on the other end of the phone. I asked again, and was blatantly ignored again. She then offers to schedule a service tech to come out the next morning to diagnose the problem, for a repair fee of course. WAIT? WHAT? Repair fee for a brand new service that was not correctly installed in the first place? Not to mention the fact the technician didn't even bother to contact me during the day by phone or simple knock on the door to confirm that the phone was working, but you're going to charge me for that? "Oh, yes, we can waive that repair fee". You bet your tail you can waive that fee. My husband knows a thing or two about phone lines and connections. Checked the wires at the box. Yes indeed, the technician connected some wires to our house. THE WRONG ONES. There are blue wires, white wires, and orange wires. He connected blue, our house runs on the orange. The technician would've figured this out within a few minutes if he'd just bothered to knock on my door and check that the line was working. My husband spoke with customer service again and relayed our entire ordeal with this install, not a single person we spoke with seemed to care. I guess their give a darn is busted. If our line had not already been ported over from Cox I would've dropped this company immediately. On top of it all, we tried to sign into our account online, shockingly (enter sarcastic jaw drop here) our account was not recognized by their system. We then started an online chat with Seth T. We had to restart chat three different times because Seth T. would not respond to us in the chat box after announcing he was present to chat with us. Whether this is because their system is bad/slow, or possibly the fact that he was chatting with several customers at once, does not matter. Took us thirty minutes to find out that we have to try again in 7-10 days, because that's how long it will take to get our information into the system. What? Did I time travel? Is this the 1990s? All in all, 10.5 hours of my day wasted to get a simple phone line installed. Go ahead folks, calculate your hourly wage and multiply it by 10.5 hours. That's a fair estimate of how much of my hard earned cash was wasted/lost on a company that does not value my time or money. Get with it, Century Link. After this experience, I would much rather pay a few bucks extra to the conglomeration called Cox and get average customer service, than deal with your apathetic customer service reps and incompetent, unprofessional technicians. Switched to Centurylink 6 weeks ago. Changeover install went smoothly, tech arrived on time within arrival window given. Connectivity and speed have been comparable to prior provider Cox. Since I am happy with connectivity and speed I decided I wanted to buy installed modem instead of continuing to rent forever. When I signed up for switch over I was told that would be no problem and I could purchase anytime. I requested purchase via online chat and was told they would have to send me a new modem; I could not just purchase what I already had installed. They shipped me a new modem, however it is a different one than I have installed and does not fit in the wall cable box. After spending 2+ hours on phone and being transferred 3 times speaking with sometimes difficult to understand representatives I was told that Centurylink could not specify a particular modem size or model and that my only option is to continue renting my existing modem. I have returned the new modem which does not fit. Bottom line; happy so far with connection and speed but good luck trying to contact a live person for any issues. read more

We are going on our 4th day without internet connection. CenturyLink sent a tech 6 days ago because we have been having major connection issues for months now. It took 4 calls, 3 live chats and finally text messaging them to have the first tech out here only to make it worse. The service was fine for a day but it messed up our neighbor's service. They had a tech out for them the next day which caused our service to be completely cut. We are paying for higher speeds that we have never received. CenturyLink is a complete joke.
